The Sega Saturn was known for its 2d capabilities but as a result of 3d games still being in its infancy we got some pretty unique 2.5D Action Platformers from the 32 bit generation. On this video I discuss 9 of th best 2.5D Action Platformers on the Sega Saturn,

Correction: I Said In the video clockwork knight was ported to pc and ps2. This is incorrect. Clockwork knight 1 and 2 were exclusive to the Sega Saturn.
Dark Savior doesn't seem to take place in outer space either going by the footage, looked like a boat in the middle of the ocean (I remember majority of the game takes place on an island)
Mr. Bones was ahead of its time. Loved the atmosphere but it was ridiculously hard. Great vid bro \m/
My favorite game on this list is Dark Savior, there's basically 3 games in there since the different paths can be so radically changed depending on how the game starts out.
I had never heard of Shinrei Jusatsushi Tarōmaru. This looks right up my alley
same
Hey, cool vid! I just finished Clockwork Knight yesterday so this is fun.
What was that first vertically scrolling shmup you put footage of?
Sorry I missed the premiere! Catching the VOD now, love learning about the Saturn 🤩
Thank you Raya! and no worries. These are all amazing games. my next saturn video is going to be HUGE Ill be giving channel a members a video talking about it
Vito brought me here. Happy to subscribe; love retro content!
Thank you bro! Glad you are here!
Bug can be very frustrating, including the sequel. The Japanese version is much more forgiving and thus more fun.
Dark Savior is fantastic, but I wouldn't really call it a platform game. Same goes for Nights.
Have you tried Keio 2? That game is a pretty fun platformer and even got a limited Western release.
What are you talking about? Clockwork Knight was never ported to PC or PS2.
Must've got my notes mixed up. My bad. Still doesn't change the fact the game is absolute 💥💥💥
I'm kinda sunrised youre the only one who caught this mistake so far.
Nice selection of games. Might have to pick up Pandamonium. However, I think you missed one of my favorite games on the platform that is indeed 2.5D. Astal has some of the most beautiful graphics on the platform. I think they still hold up today. Yeah, the gameplay is definitely from the 16-bit era, but it was a very early title for the console and really showed what it was capable of.
Astal is a great game. And beautiful. But I kept it off the list as it's mostly and animated 2d platformer. I do plan on doing a best "2d platformers" it will absolutely be on there
@@theretrobro Super Tempo, Keio 2, Rayman and Astal are excellent 2d platformers. Super Tempo needs an English translation though.
i always liked clockwork knight it has some cool levels and its sorta like an original toy story game. bazooka jonny and mr.bones have a lot of charm but i always found them hard but i can see the potential they have. another oen that is pretty cool but its more isometric but it has some 3D in it is Steamgear Mash
Yeah clock work knight is great it's the perfect balance of difficulty. I've never played steamgear mash I'll have to check it out!
The first "Bug" game pizzed me off so I just avoided playing "Bug Too" altogether. Maybe I'll give it a try.
It's a more polished game than the first but still hard as nails
A shame i cant find as many quality platformers on Saturn as on Genesis =(
You need to look into the Japanese library more then as there's quite a lot
@@HollowRick You could give me some examples, please.
Can’t beat a modded Saturn with 4MB cart. Was definitely the better choice of console for the more serious gamer, who couldn’t afford a mighty Neo Geo.
Absolutely. I'm using psuedo saturn kai. I have a library of about 80 burned games lol
@@theretrobro Was a good video mate. Greetings from London :-)
Well, if you got the Saturn All-in-One, you cannot play King of Fighters '95, since that one requires a special cartridge...
@@RedRanger2001 I got that KOF 95 cartridge long ago. Couldn’t wait to finish school and play that one.
Yea these are not considered best of Saturn 2.5 d or not
Would love to hear what your favorite are
@@theretrobro 3 weeks ago maybe
The best for him
Bug! gets old really quick, and Bazookatone is one of the worst in the genre. Skeleton Warriors FTW!
Yeah bazookatone is kinda butt. Bug too is great but it's stupid hard.
