Good to see you back on the road in the Twizy I'm glad you're keeping it I love the quick run a round videos and the way it's so easy for you to park it they should be more on the road.
The people have spoken Andy, Keep the Twizy. I know you're looking for a new project but I'm positive something will come your way soon. Keep up the vids mate 👍
I saw one in person for the 1st time the other day .......it was surrounded by nice cars even a new Aston and no one gave a shit they were all looking and waving at the twizy and the guy driving was having a right laugh whipping around in it .....looked so much fun I actually want a twizy lol
I haven’t come across your videos before and I have no idea why this was recommended to me but I’m glad it was! Great video, always had a soft spot for the twizy, yours can do 60 somehow! And looks like it has quite a few mods, great to see such love and passion for a relatively unpopular vehicle
I think all you need is to build a battery pack "backpack" 30-40 kg max...ideally modular.... Then you only add a connector to the twizzy, not an extra battery. You can then use your backpack on any other projects, from bikes to lawnmowers with only adding a plug to any of those. I'd be happy to buy such a modular battery.👍
They do look great fun, glad you’re keeping it! You’ve also won another subscriber as I also have an interest in Drones as well! I’m looking for a well used Twizzy to mess with, I’ve heard that you can swap the battery for a higher capacity one off a hybrid car (I think it was from a Mitsubishi Outlander), that would give a bit better range with the performance box.
A Twizy vid 🥰 I would be interested to know if any of your mods have reduced the overall range, or not? I wonder often how you could upgrade the batteries and push for the +100mile... 🤔 But whatever... This really is a killer car and Andy's is a looker 👀
Yeah I agree, although battery tech hasn't really moved on that much really unless they used a complicated cell arrangement like tesla and used cylindrical cells. None of the big car makers use that sort of setup and there's definately reasons for that I think... tesla are not known for their reliability and I think time will be a teller how those batteries hold up.
the twizy is a cool car and you already have a great TT, I have thought about doing an EV conversion to my TT . but I have the Zoe for daily trips and honestly i love the TT for having fun in on weekends
I have been looking at getting a Twizy, if I get any early one there is a bit of a question over the range. Renault could really make more of it with a newer model with double the battery capacity or offer it as an upgrade to all the old ones. That would give them a load of good PR, if you look at the Zoe and how they have moved that forward in the same time it makes you wonder what their commitment to the Twizy really is.
It's tricky I guess, the Zoe really is an excellent car, the used ones are hard to beat for around £10k. The twizy is a bit of a novelty, it's also hard to cram much more capacity in that battery box without using a non tried and tested design. Also a limited market, but I'm trying to change that 🤣
You need to get in about 8Kwh of energy to FULLY charge the twizy, I've previously used about 5 panels and a grid tie and it just about covers the energy the twizy uses doing short journeys. The twizy doesn't use a lot of energy anyway which is half your fight for saving money on transport!
@@andykirby The more I watch your video's the more I feel I need one in my life. Most of my driving is round town so it's perfect for me. Cheers for the reply

Hi, you just won another suscriber, love to see someone with passion, especially when it involves little cars like old mini or beatle or mehari, etc. Among all the accessories available is there any solar pannel (as a glass roof replacement)? I bet it could help with the range, even if UK ain't very sunny...

That usually doesn't make sense as it adds weight making the car less efficient while not generating much power. If you could cover the entire footprint of the Twizy (solar carport?) then that's about 2.2kwh a day or 10-18 miles but if you only cover the roof of the Twizy that's much smaller, maybe 1x0.8m? Roughly half a kwh per day or 5-9 miles. Just plug it into a bigger stationary solar system.
Yeah, I would keep the Twizy. I am a bit surprised that none of the car makers have followed suit and made this format of EV. They would clean up I am sure. Now what is the story with Renault? Why is the Twizy half the price of a Zoe? With only a 6KwHr battery.
Couldn’t agree more. It’s a vehicle for chilled out folk that don’t want to conform, and for that reason it hasn’t went down well in the UK which is a nation of Baldricks.
Have you seen the VW Buzz concept car? All eyes would still be on the Twizy but that’s an EV I like the idea of, if you ain’t seen it! Still need to get myself a Twizy first though! 🤞
The Seat MiniMo, looks like it could be the new Twizy, (assuming it ever comes out). The unique thing I like about it, apart rom the cool styling, is the 'battery swap' feature. Effectively, it carries two batteries and when one is depleted you swap to the other. I hope Seat does bring it to production....I'll deffo have one. wevee.uk/seat/minimo
Love your videos (Y). Quick question: when you drive like 93km/h (58mi/h) like downhill (without modification), the STOP and Battery sign light up with a beep. This is just a warning, nothing can happen with the motor or battery, right? And also I got a 2020 Twizy and I want it to go faster, the PowerBox is not working anymore on this model, is the Kenneth Nilsen Motorcontroller as viable modification? Will there be no troubles to get it roadlegal? Thank you for all your videos
Thanks for watching! So, the STOP light comes on because we are pulling close to 500A current from the battery. It's no harm to the battery or BMS, it can handle this power (Kenneth has done a lot of testing) the only way to make a fast 2020 Twizy is to swap the sevcon controller with a modified one from Kenneth. That is what I would do!
Andy, What's the deal with the mods on your one and the charging I see you have a charging set ? What's the price to buy one new with the battery so no lease ???
One question - I saw one of these in a showroom in Madrid for sale(€4.9k). If I bought one on the continent I assume I would need to switch the lights for RHD British/Irish roads? Can the lights be flipped?
hi Andy how old is your twizy? how many miles is on it so far? is it a reliable electric vehicles? what fault and failures have you had since you bought it? please reply to these questions am a loyal fun of your channel and twizy
Yes its reliable, I think its got about 6000 miles on so far. I'm currently using it every day for a 35 mile round trip. So far brakes have been the only issue and They are expensive. The twizy has an issue where the brakes will sieze if the car isn't used. That about the only issue I cam think of!
I'd like an affordable electric vehicle but charging is an issue as I can't have a chargepoint at home, I'd like a Smart electric I have to be honest, I currently have a Smart diesel, it's practical and economical, but range is an issue for me as I can't charge at home or work, I like the Twizy, it's quirky and unique, I have to carry gear for work which is where the Smart becomes a practical choice. I only need a small car as I live in the centre of town, sadly there is no small car which has a decent range
I can charge at home, but my Petrol Smart has a huge range so I'm in a similar position. Maybe one day there will be tiny cars with a big range, but I'm not holding my breath.
Hey Andi. I like your reviews and mods on the Twizy. Myself, I have a TWIKE (you know that one? Check it!) and the last ten years I drive the TWIZY. Great! But you wondered if there exist a silimilar vehicles? Probably! Have a look at the CARVER S+ ... 80 Km/Hr (= +/- 60 miles/Hr), autonomie 100 Km (= +/- 60 miles) and... in the corner it CARVES! 😀
I'm after buying one myself andy and wondered if you knew what model to get as I have cbt learner license at present but been using a typhoon vector e bike as my daily but plan on selling that to buy a twizy kind regards Dex
@@andykirby thanks for the information seems Google doesn't really explain this fact well! Maybe an imported ami may be my next option.... keep up the great work with the channel always great to watch..
I am super jealous of anyone who has a twizy since we will never get it in Toronto. But sometimes I can relate my Prius to the twizy with a close to Spartan interior with some white accent and enjoy the electric whine.
Buy a cheap Boxster and convert it to EV. Go for it Andy, now that is a project that I would love to see! These are small but quite practical cars with both a boot and a large frunk.
build a new battery, but that would be a long term investment? not really sure, but ask the community to help out with a new battery build i'd love to help

What's the current mudguard situation.?
As you said there is nothing like it!
Yes they can be fully and fairly easily adjusted
Have you seen the Seat Minimó? It's not out yet. I would like to see you do a review of it at some point.
hi Andy how old is your twizy? how many miles is on it so far? is it a reliable electric vehicles? what fault and failures have you had since you bought it? please reply to these questions am a loyal fun of your channel and twizy
Yes its reliable, I think its got about 6000 miles on so far. I'm currently using it every day for a 35 mile round trip.
So far brakes have been the only issue and They are expensive. The twizy has an issue where the brakes will sieze if the car isn't used. That about the only issue I cam think of!
@@andykirby ok thanks
everyone wants a big comfortable vehicle as a daily driver because it is convenient !!
Can you use public charging points on these I see the charging plugs are different is there away round this ?
What is this car worth? We don't have anything like it in the states...
Get a full sized car, or a super soco, that things just for a bit of fun a few days of the year i reckon.
I've alteady got full sized cars..
I'm after buying one myself andy and wondered if you knew what model to get as I have cbt learner license at present but been using a typhoon vector e bike as my daily but plan on selling that to buy a twizy kind regards Dex
Hi, You need a full car license for the twizy 😉 there's only one type available in the UK, that's the twizy 80.
@@andykirby thanks for the information seems Google doesn't really explain this fact well! Maybe an imported ami may be my next option.... keep up the great work with the channel always great to watch..
Do you still have your twizy if so what your range show when it’s fully charged? I have a 2014 with 32000km and it’s only shows 38 km on a full charge
It shows about 40 miles when it's warm and I haven't been caning it around! The range meter is affected by everything!
@@andykirby thank you kindly for your reply, appreciated 🙏 happy new year to you
I just wonder, how do you get round the uncovered tyres law , have they stopped bothering with it ..?
It's a quadricycle so it doesn't apply.
@@andykirby OK,thanks for clearing that up.
Ever driven though Kenilworth? I'm sure I saw a guy like you in one
I sold my modified Twizy and bought an Audi TT it is the best car I have ever had. regards Richard
Andy, come and have a go in my modified Smart 451 EV Cab, think you’d be amazed, and
Wouldn't it be good if Renault did a 2021 upgrage on the little fella
I am super jealous of anyone who has a twizy since we will never get it in Toronto. But sometimes I can relate my Prius to the twizy with a close to Spartan interior with some white accent and enjoy the electric whine.
Buy a cheap Boxster and convert it to EV. Go for it Andy, now that is a project that I would love to see! These are small but quite practical cars with both a boot and a large frunk.
build a new battery, but that would be a long term investment? not really sure, but ask the community to help out with a new battery build i'd love to help
I've been looking for a Twizy for ages now
Anyone that can give me any pointers/leads? (preferably to one without the stupid "battery-lease")
I'm in The Netherlands
Ik heb wel de batterij lease maar ik vind het wel makkelijk en als hij stuk is krijg ik een nieuwe
Somebody in Canada has designed a 4x4 scooter that can do up to 200 miles per charge
Not available in the US?
I’d buy it mate, you should keep it though
