    I applaud Renault for daring to build such an innovative and quirky design - Bravo! The French have always been willing to take risks and go their own way in car production, something many another manufacturer could probably learn from.

    Thank you for featuring my Twizy on your channel, it's great!
    In response to some of the comments, I would like to add that with the PowerBox I've had 70mph out of it, although on a slightly downhill section of the M1.
    The thing really does make people smile and is my vehicle of choice for short trips (mainly work), when the weather's nice.

    I spent a solid five minutes trying to get a Twizy to start until I realized I had mistaken the glovebox lock for the ignition.
    Yes, the ignition is on the column on the right side like in almost all cars. But the glovebox lock is right next to it on the dashboard and you too would probably be confused if you got into a weird french plastic electric quadricycle for the first time.

    One of the most hilarious things I've driven. We borrowed one for an EV event at work. It was the base model, in orange and had no doors. I had to drive it from Brechin to Aberdeen up the A90. This meant sitting at a steady 40 to make sure I had enough range to get home and getting overtaken by most HGVs. The strangest thing was stopping at traffic lights and pedestrians chatting to you.
    I believe the chassis was actually tuned by Renaultsport so, coupled with the rear wheel drive, it handles so well.
    Did you find the tiny boot?

    I drove one of these soon after launch at a Renault EV event, great fun, what I remember is that the handling was so direct and there was almost no tilt, which, given its height, is counter-intuitive, but obviously al the weight is in the floor and the lack of much bodywork means the weight at the top is really minimal.
    I would love one as a fun little thing for short trips, but they are still pricey, and the battery rental previously completely ruled it out, good to hear batteries can now be bought.

  • @GaryJohnWalker1

    It's disappointing Renault didn't double down on the Twizy - they launched it with great fanfare and then, just let it fade. In 2022 there should be a G2 or G3 Twizy with 30kwh and absolutely monstering travle and commuting in the M25 area of the UK at least. Brave in 2012 when this thing launched. But why no follow through? So to speak.

  • @KarlAdamsAudio

    What a hoot! Similar seating arrangement to the Light Car Company Rocket, although that's where the similarity ends. Reminds me of TWC, of course (and I believe that 'corners of disappointment' are the issue, as a single wiper can't have a 'triangle of doom'). Impressive that such a crazy thing could be built in the modern era.

    I can recommend the Twizzy tour in Lanzarote if it is still being run, I did it in 2019 and it was great fun. There was a group of 12 cars being led by a van like a bunch of ducklings, we went to a few locations before stopping at a winery where the cars had a top-up charge. The lack of doors on those cars really made the experience.

    Was always fascinated by the Twizy. Love the design and the interior. Some of those finishes especially on the floor would be more appropriate for many other cars instead of silly carpets. Always thought Renault should have made it a bit more car-like with proper doors and it should have developed it during its life with better batteries. It looks like Renault should be addressing these points as I've seen pictures purporting to be its successor. It looks really good.

    I remember looking these up when they were new and thinking "why would you buy this over a basic Twingo?". The Twingo was much cheaper to buy, and the battery lease cost of the Twizy would buy enough petrol to take you more miles each year in the Twingo than the lease allowed you to do in the Twizy.
    They're certainly a quirky vehicle, and would make a great advertising vehicle for a business, or a second vehicle for popping into town.

    I built an ebike for a few hundred quid. It is capable of 30mph and has a similar range to the Twizy. Admittedly, I can't legally ride it at that speed on a public road or cycle path, but it does make the asking price for this Renault seem ridiculous. I can take short cuts to avoid traffic jams, I can lob it in my car and take it away with me to the coast and I don't have to fork out for insurance either.
    If I could afford / justify the spend, I'd still have a Twizy, as these, along with the new Ami, are fascinating and look like huge fun.

    You have to give our French cousins credit, they didn't give us the Twingo a proper car, but they they did give rainy Britain an EV where doors and (clip on) windows are an optional extra...and the range is tiny...and the vehicle is completely insecure so you can't park it in a typical British city and expect your belongings to still be inside when you return to it. Also remarkably expensive for a vehicle clearly built to a budget. Hee haw Rosbeefs etc. Come on chaps, Agincourt and Trafalgar was a long time ago. We have a tunnel of love now.😍

    The color combination is either reminiscent of a police car or a pile of bird poo. Not enough range for a full commuter car in most US areas. Probably uses a lot of coal for charging.

      In europe we have a large and growing percentage of renewable power and the average commute is under 20 miles, so can work well here. Many people with an EV have solar panels installed (with a battery storage system) so they can charge at home, over a couple of years its a very cost effective install as home bills and fuel bills are slashed

    My thought is that it is so easy to steal. Just get in, take off the handbrake and push it away. Then, if the thieving low-life can't get it started just dump it/set fire to it. So if I had one I would padlock and chain it to something solid like a lamp post.

      Coolest and bravest Automakers in the World. Unlike the Germans tge-French are not afraid to be bold and different and try new things. It's just a pity most people here in Ireland and People in the UK are very Conservative and that is why people drive SUVs now when most do not even need such big cars and an electric 3 or 4 wheeled car or trike would do perfectly for them. Yes Renault could have made this more secure but then it would cost more.

      Get your yourself an enclosed adult electric Trike. They are an Ali-Express and online too. Can do 45km maybe even 50km and it feels a lot faster. They come with electric windows and doors too :)
      Some even have rear windows and a sunroof.
      Are great fun to drive yes I have one :)

    I wouldn't feel safe in that car. Crash protection isn't my concern. It's a Renault: it could fall to pieces at speed or the electrics could catch fire at any moment.

    • @sharonec5419

      That is just nonsense. Renaults are now some of the most reliable best built cars you can buy. It's a long time ago since Renaults were like that. It's more than likely that would happen to a VW or the two other big German Automakers than a Renault or any French Automaker these days.
      Besides in an electric car or an electric quadracycle like this there is very little to go wrong.

    one thing to note is electric cars are not i repeat not zero emission, you mentioned it had just had new tyres! ! there are the batteries that are not going to last , the fact that it was manufactured! and the gas that produced the electricity its running on ! electric cars are the next diesel disaster,

      Zero emission=the vehicle directly emits zero pollution, not that it doesn’t indirectly use resources or that there is no pollution generated in its manufacture

      Quite right. Zero Emission at Point of Use (ZEPU) is a term that I wish people would adopt for EVs.

    • @Teribus13
      @Teribus13 2 роки тому

      @@Steve-GM0HUU even that's false though because there's still particle emissions from the tyres and brakes, and there are some scientists who are starting to think that the particle emissions are now a bigger problem than exhaust emissions in cities.

    • @Steve-GM0HUU
      @Steve-GM0HUU 2 роки тому

      @@Teribus13 Fair point, thanks. Maybe ZEEEPU - Zero Engine Exhaust Emission at Point of Use would be a better term? Then again, electric motors, batteries and associated systems will be generating heat which might be considered a form of exhaust. At the end of the day, I am sceptical about the use of the term Zero Emission and wonder if it is just a nonsense PR term being used to sell EVs. If an EV is being charged from the grid prior to use it will be responsible for generating emissions associated with supplying that charge. Just how much better or worse EVs are for the planet versus ICEs, time will tell I suppose?

    • @Teribus13
      @Teribus13 2 роки тому

      @@Steve-GM0HUU I think Zero Emission has definitely become a gimmick term, much like hybrid (which has been used on vehicles where there's nothing hybrid about them, just some "clever" systems designed to save fuel - example, Wrightbus StreetLite Micro Hybrid), and of course Turbo from the 1980s where everything had turbo stuck on it from sunglasses to hoovers 😂
      But, yeah, 'zero exhaust emission' would perhaps be more factual.
