This wrecked the economy of crafting. A new player is going to have a long grind before being able to craft 6 crown ammo. And the base design is now artless. Robs ignore everything but the factory and everything rebuilds with a button. You are a factory manager in a warzone with awful returns for your labor.
This update bugged the game big time. Rivals hardly drop EXP weapons now, i got all the new ones from doing base assaults. Starting a base defense makes all robots in the region agro on the base and even after the base defense is completed the machines keep coming. Harvesters are spawning far away and launching rockets at the base or continuously calling in Hunters. Base defenses are no longer just Finx. Soviets can be the attackers and Firebirds will fly over all base defenses and completely obliterate a base in seconds. Before updating I made sure to build all the bases with Soviet walls, craft all the EXP ammo, adrenaline shots, Companion concussion armor augment all the 5* weapons I needed and I’m happy I did because crafting, augmentation, and base building is now just an endless grind. Edit: I just had the Reaper Agro on me and it ran full speed towards me while simultaneously firing rockets. Though it was a fluke but Apocalypse, Finx, Resen and Prototype tanks are all doing it when attacked from a distance. Also the random respawn of the companion in my path of movement yeets my character upwards. They didn’t even bring closure to the Apple mystery guy, church of iron, or the spooky locations. On the plus side Lynx and the loot caches (seems to be indestructible now so rockets away) in base assaults are a good source for Standard Medkits and Advanced medkits
Get the mid level meds if yer making them if ye need too craft meds Literally just go killing, me and my mate just went killing for ten mins and got like 200 med kits and I think it was 40000 ammo for each gun we had just from drops
Absolute nightmare now ... i won't be doing any more defence bases , it's so stupid how they have done this update ... went in last night put 200 data in for the vulture ... and it didn't appear so bloody annoyed atm..and is it worth even putting a ticket in any more ...took a Reaper down and no ammo and no weapons what so ever... i mean wtf !!!! Bearing in mind I'm level 180 and not a newbie... but they have deffo ruined this game ...Also if you are doing this with a friend , they get nothing so there's no incentive to do these base defence with mates now either ...
Think what upset me the most. Being somewhat new to this game. My hubs and I play it together. We worked so hard to bring down a Reaper. I got the experimental weapon. He got nothing. That's not fair at all.
Btw now starting a defense mission causes all machines to instantly become agro towards you no matter where they are and that makes many bases near impossible to defend
@@dinosaurking3733 Before I went to work, I defended my Chem Lab base, in the farmland, after the damn defense mission, I had 8 hunters 4 fnix and 4 of those radioactive. I was confused as hell where they came from its like wave after wave, and I kid you not, they came from 2 Harvesters, who's over the hill pass the forest........
yeah the payouts for the base defense is underwhelming. The mechanics i enjoy a bit more but i feel that's more to do with the free base repair. The resources im struggling still outside of base defence is Uranium, wood and Concrete. I really wish they boost harvesting wood from one tree would yield 10 to 30 wood rather just 1. 😑
the best way to change it would simply be to make the new resources be used strictly for bulk crafting and more permanent equipment upgrades like the armor upgrades because even though I do enjoy base defense the amount of resources needed is too much for the average player. another thing that would be nice is if they would just remove storage limits all together for those of us that want to be able to stack as many resources and as much ammo as possible. (im aware that there is a bug to allow you to do this with scrap but it gets tedious having to take everything out just to scrap something)
I feel so bad for anyone that didn’t already have max level clothing and supplies already stocked up for…well, everything. They’re going to have to revise everything or it’s just not going to be as fun anymore.
I've put a good amount of time into this game and I'm sad to say this last update is very disappointing to me. The mandatory defense for the really rare craft items is a horrible idea. Not only that but the changes to materials needed for things like the advanced med kit is ridiculous. I don't get the idea of hampering the fun of the player base in a PVE game by making important items much harder to get. And I'm still pissed from them changing the yielded amount of .50 bmg AP per batch from 15 to 3. If I want to make 100 rounds I have to press the craft button 34 times. For me it feels like a bittersweet ending to this game.
It's super ridiculous and seems almost contemptuous of the players. If the devs aren't going to roll back this bullshit we might have to rely on mods or cheats. (I like using WeMod to change the time of day. Don't like playing in the dark all the time.) Base defense just needed one thing: PUSH A BUTTON TO START IT. Why do I have to attack robots in the environment first, and then it's random about which one of my bases is going to get the mission. It's dumb. The fun of base defense is trying to design the base to get robots to fall into traps. Even in the old way that was a bit slapdash. Sniper towers and machine gun turrets just drew aggro moreso than actually killing robots. Yeah, one-button reset is kinda cool, but the absurd requirements for building and crafting is terrible. My carpentry skills are basic, but I know enough that a plywood wall isn't made with Steel and Phosphorous and NOT wood! Sheesh. I also get non-stop robot spawns even after the drill\chemical\furnace mission is over. I don't get it.
I personally am not a fan of base building, i love this game and will continue to play it, but it is so difficult doing these defend missions to get the resources. I play solo, and have brought down a reaper solo and these defend missions are such a pain. I hope they revamp it as well.
And that's when I under the next questions for the devs: What is wrong with you!? Defend the base in order to farm materials for regular medkits instead of the experimental only? They must wake up.
I was level 51 before the update came out. All I can say is I am glad I had a boatload of resources saved up and Soviet walls all built around my compounds
The way to go is to use the medical slug ammo with the experimental shotgun. You get healed 100 percent, and you get 20 slugs for only 1 refined tungsten. Where as you need 5 ethanol to craft 1 advanced med kit. Wild. They made my decision for me and to be honest I haven’t used advanced med kits since I learned how to use exp pump shotgun for healing myself.
I've been playing since launch day. I'm not happy any all about these changes. Base building never appealed to me so I never did it. Having to craft AP ammo now is a major turn off, as is having to grind for little payoff. Not sure what they were thinking with these changes, it kind of sucked all the excitement out of this update to where I might just wait and see what they do before returning.
Deadass they had the right idea but leaving the game off like this is just sad/pathetic. It’s not in a good state and to stop updating after this relative disappointment in terms of balancing, it makes me upset. I’ve 100% the game with 1k+ hours. I collected all the new EXP weapons and completed the rest of the story. The base and resource thing killed it for me, just messes up progression. Plus my tier 3 lifesteal PKM got deleted for some reason, and I am not grinding 1200 ethanol just to get it back.
the new crafting update they did sucks i hate it. i dont mind doing base defense missions but being forced to do a base defense just to craft something thats needed feels passively (and most of the time just straight up) abusive to the players
They made it so machines now drop ammo for the weapons you are currently carrying, however to incentivize crafting, they only drop one type of each ammo. FMJ for 7.62, SMG, and 5.56 HP for .32 ACP, Magnum ammo. And AP for BMG. I found it easy to just scrap excess FMJ or HP ammo and use the lead to make FMJ BMG.
I played 2 hard ones for drills so far one in farmland the other in the southeast region and they spawned Russian bots wich made it impossible to do since firebirds can shoot over the walls and one salvo the objective, you can't even stop them from doing so since they aggro automatically on them
I used special ammunition only on several occasions. When even AP ammunition has to have such a stupid time wasting inefficient procedure, then I will simply stay with the collectible ammo. The work of the dev team is then, in my case, for nothing. The collecting is time consuming enough, now to refine things? No way.
It's far worse than you've made it out to be. Players can't even build a quality wooden wall without specialized materials, so building a base will involve hours of grinding. It's clear enough that the kids who made this spent zero time playtesting it. From their perspective, there was no reason for them to. After all, they knew that the 'player base' would playtest it- and since this is the last update, they don't have to do a single thing about it. In this way, the small player base will slowly tire of the grind and disappear from the game. By the time that these amateurs have developed a NEW game, the player base will have forgotten all about this sham- and the whole business will start all over again.
I hate it a lot, making sure that the furnace doesn't overheat while fighting doesn't make it any better, considering when I played for first time furnace defense mission, I had military Hunter eat 2 rockets and take absolutely no damage and a full mag from AK didn't do it much (even some of the runners were taking a bit too much ammo for a military teir). Clothing upgrades now take those refined materials too, you can forget about getting any decent protection because of that
Yeah, and it sucks ass, so much for protection from bullets or hiding in plain sight, and you need so much of one thing to one little thing, and rare resources drops from rare enemies, and to farm rare enemies isn’t fun or good gameplay, it’s up right horrible.
Thank you so much for making Generation Zero so much more enjoyable for me and others. Hopefully, the programmers will greatly up the rewards for doing these base defenses, which I will not be doing as well, because the return is way too small for the massive grind, and major loss of ammo.
Just started playing GZ the day before the new patch. 48 hours ago unlocked the first base and played the first defence and... that was awesome 😊 I hope the they change the conversion ratio. As you say 100:12 it seems really low. Maybe 100:50 or let you put in even more material to obtain 500:250.
This update is an update with extremes. On one hand we got a new island and mission which was a good thing. Then we got the new crafting and what a crap show that is. Who ever was responsible for this needs to reverse this and bring back the crafting to the way it was. I am a long time player nearly 4,000hrs and this is a game changer for the worse. NOT HAPPY
I think the intrinsic problem with the furnace is due to the nature of the heat vent mechanic and low conversion rates for elements like uranium you're forced to use a group, however those other people get nothing from the defence other than what you decide to share with them.
I've never crafted i single bullet, i live of what the land gives me, looks like i will stick with that. I liked the old base defense, the new one is not my thing. Im gonna ignore that whole part of the game. 😂
This update definitely did bug my world. The two regions that I do have built up bases in don't have a high enough threat level to do a base defense (and while running around and killing robots to increase it is the answer, I; 1. Ran out of medkits two days after the update dropped [blame the turrets in the final part of the mission] and barely any robots are spawning for me right now) Along with that, the two bases I do have built up are drill bases, and they now require reinforced materials for many base walls. For a solo player that tries to legitimately get stuff before submitting to the trading channels on the discord, this is highly infuriating
My game pretty much broke from the new upgrade and one of the base defences i did didnt end after the timer stopped. I swear this game is worse now than it was a year ago. I hope they still make bug fixes and tweaks for this update. Leaving on this update is like getting a lump of coal up your butt for xmas 😐
@JoniEU- yeah atleast you can auto repair for no resources cost whenever. I see why they made that move because no way you could build up resources and afford to repair the base. It is a slog now.
@@dataanalystbynight4375 I also got a bug where when i pressed O on my controller, it would bring the message for interacting with a base defence for the 1st time. It was really annoying and kinda ruined my game for a bit. I was streaming the game so its recorded for evidence, it also meant i couldnt crouch or sprint when i wanted to. I also got a bug that made the triangle take me to one of the instructions where the schematics are. This game is more broken than it was like 2 years ago. Really disappointed in this update.
Been hardly crafting anything even before, simply because my loot goblin playstyle gave me way more than i needed. In fact i had to start crafting recently because i could not store more stuff in my maxed crafting/storage chests. Now i am always rocking around with homing turrets and stuff just to make sure that my storages don't overflow. So will be fun to see if i will be forced to change my behavior in game.
The crafting changes ARE NOT good for the health of the game. I understand that this was the last updated, but they definitely dropped the ball. I love this game, but the gameplay loop is now terrible. You're at a net loss if you play for any length of time. You used to be able to pick and choose what resources you picked off enemies. Now, you'll have to take EVERYTHING
i get that they wanted to make base defense more worth it, cause ever singe base assault came out the defense halve became kinda useless (requireing a lot more set-up and material cost, more bullets in general and beeing a lot more stressfull since you can't take it at your own pace, while not getting any real benefits from it). But this change was not it, not right at the end of the game's life cycle. if it came out a couple of years ago there would have been time to dial it in, balance the drop rates and material cost prices for items but there is no more time for that now.. I really really hope they revert the crafting changes and just make the new structures drop the old materials. my idea of the drops: furnace: titanium, lead, copper and alumunium (cause they're all refined metals) drill: uranium, tungsten, concrete(?) and steel (cause they're more basic ground materials) lab: accelerant, electrolyte, rubber, plastic, adhesive, gasoline (more chemical products)
The new update is just wrong, to get one thing you need the other thing, but to get the other thing you need the one thing, upgrading your clothes is also dumb, why do I need big blocks of alloys to make my clothes better at one thing, and the grenades, why is so stupid!? To make a grenade before is explosive and steel, but now we need explosive and some kind of rock, WTF? And to make a smoke grenade is going to need a grenade and adhesive, So stupid. also the GZ is now even more buggy, try to spawn my robot friend in and they are immediately removed out of existence, try to put down some cover, nope, throw a hacking dart or firework, can’t do that either without it getting deleted, so fucking stupid in my opinion
I agree with this ruining crafting. If they had what they had, then just added the drills, furnace, and chem lab along with the new crafting stuff then that would be fine.
Crafting on GZ has been a chyt show since the day it was dumped on us. Don't bother with it, just choose your weapons wisely (PVG90 exp and PVM71 gold is a good start) augment the PVM and learn to component hit whilst out turning their arc of fire. Choose your clothing wisely too, ensure less visibility and reduced bullet damage. I never craft for ammo or medpacks and never needed to. Then again, I've been playing it since 2019 and clocked up 1250 plus hours...... seen it, done it got the T shirt.
They basically brought back the survival horror aspect for sure. Now I feel broke at level 65 and ~300 hours. To be fair I already had all the weapons I wanted augmented as well as 8 bases built completely of Soviet concrete walls. So shuffling around resources wasn’t a big deal for phosphorus. Also, med kits were always a scam in my opinion. For low levels they make sense. However ever sense I was able to get experimentals, I haven’t used advanced used the exp pump shotgun and medical slugs. Also, making them is cheap even with the update. For 1 refined tungsten, you 20 shells which will heal you to 100 percent from like no health. So, to me it works. What really sucks is the furnace. You not only have to defend it but also release the gas, which is an uber pain in the ass. And like 50 percent of the time I don’t hear it and end up with some slag. My augmented weaposn have become extremely valuable and I glad I had all my crap prepped prior. However, I honestly feel sorry for anyone just starting out. If you climbing that hill I don’t know you have incentive to get into it, unless you really bought into the grind/survival horror aspect. I like how Russian machines and harvesters attack now. Makes it easier to farm yhr more elusive 5 crowns but the fact is I have them already. So still doesn’t affect me. However, the crafting is shit because even at a high level I feel broke. So yeah, sucks 😂. I had enough ammo stored like rockets and shock 7.62 to not have to worry about it.
Man this Update make me feel poor, i never had any of the things the add, but i aumented my weapons but after it? They removed all of them from my dlc weapons now im fucked cause i will never waste a minute grinding these missions.
Crafting now is well crap... Also the new experimental weapons drop is poor. I have so far killed 43 level 4 rivals and all I get is paint schemes for my runner...
I was wondering how to make some of this stuff for augmentation, but after watching this, it would take me forever. I just started playing again after a two year break. This i don't like because I can't make the clothes I want. Never liked the building aspect of this game. That's when I stopped playing. I didn't come back to play just to do the defense crap.
Ok, I haven't been paying much attention to the update until I just got an ingame message mentioning I can start the missions. What exactly do I have to do to start them off?
if i had known the crafting snafu i would of used up all thousands of my uranium. they either need to up the rates or make other sources as its lowered my motivation to do the stuff and mostly been using up my hoard of ammo. as it is im using more med kits per run than i can craft and im using a life steal lmg to help offset it
Yeah I was annoyed at the new materials as well cos I never liked defense missions or bases in general. I didnt even know that I needed to defended those bases to make furnace run, nor did I knew about those other new buildings. On the other my playstyle never revolved around using 6 crown ammo, not even when assaulting bases or taking down reapers and vultures. I never had so much uranium to begin with, but I still get so much normal ammo I have to just drop it all around the world cos I literally can't carry more and both of my stashes are so full. Maybe that is due to my playstyle, as I kinda like to run and gun but I tend to use weapons that drop a shitton of ammo and don't use it that much. Another thing I noticed that due to unlocking level cap I got the scavenger skill now, and those ammo boxed you find around the world, they are just nuts. It is borderline too easy to do base assault missions using absolutely nothing but möller pp with hollow points (1 or 2 shots runners and disarms hunters easily) and granatgevär to blow up walls, then collect a bit of ammo boxes to find like 100 HEDP ammo for that. Runners drop .32 hp like candy as well, and yes HP instead of FMJ cos it does a shitton more damage to components so you want to be aiming fuel cells and weapons. Tick pods also drop super easily. Then I round out my arsenal using 2 or 3 other weapons based on what ammo I have 20 to 30k in my stash and what I feel like using. Lately I've been having fun using -90% recoil SVD and go for that DMR playstyle.
@IHaveBadWiFiBro Yeah, hence I didn't know about other new resourves, I had only noticed the alloys and furnace but I didn't really bother to figure out how things work out now. I assumed it would only timegate the new resources, that I would be able to turn on furnace and wait to get those alloys. But the defense missions, no thanks F that.
Why do they keep changing the crafting??? Crafting was fine the first time then they nuked it a few updates ago and then this update just further cripples crafting. Its utter bs and new players won't be able to craft their stuff until end game. It's stupid.
I never really used the experimental ammo given I've had more of a passive relation with generation zero. It's a fun game and a good one at that but it's never been the core of my game time really. It definitely doesn't help that they basically killed crafting cus they nerfed the craft values for ammo so heavily and aggressively. Did it need a change, sure, but that much of a change is what I question. I don't hate base building but haven't ever had a good enough time with it given I'm not that great at it but also I had a base I liked but a map update happened that deleted my entire rear wall. Not to mention the high-end base parts, and now take these new resources from the furnace.

I personally love The new system Bc i can repeat them over over And over again until my game crashes xd the most important thing is to seek The best locations for these new structures My personal favourites are as follow: (Chemical lab) That's the Bicycle Area base (Near boo bruk AB) hope i write it right for drills there are ravienen (definitely not the best English) and the furnace is In the sout coast thats the Camping area on the top left (over almost 2000 hours i don't know the names blame me later thx
I'm of the mindset that this is the most egregious and blatant "throw our hands up" update I've ever had the displeasure of playing. Note how a while back they released a roadmap for the game and content they were planning down the line? Strange isn't it... how suddenly Steam releases a new ToS targeting developers to set *AND* meet deadlines when creating roadmaps, and that if they can't be followed through, you can delay the promised update up to 3 months, but if you miss or you fail to meet your targets too many times. Steam reserves the right to stop selling your game on their storefront and offer people who most recently bought the game full refunds for the purchase if they so desired to. Period. Occam's Razor, the simplest explanation is most often the best one... I'm actually just DONE with this game. Maybe I read too much into it. But at this point I don't care. I feel betrayed more than anything. How the fuck does someone screw their game economy this bad who has a brain in between their ears? This felt like an insult. If the developers aren't going to respect my time, then I'll give them none in return.
My experience with this update has been poor more bugs that I can count items I placed down disappearing but still being consumed and crashes, one at the chemical plant push the button crashed game and lag as soon as I start game no I don't like the crafting it's not worth it especially since no more updates to support this idea. As for base building if they allowed you to upgrade the wall strength or increased building limit more pill boxes letting us go all out maybe making the tedious farming a little worth it. I like generation zero this hurts, but honest not really sure I trust their next game to get invested and they just ruined their own game it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth💔
I don't know how bad you are at the game, but I take a lot of damage, and I end up with more Adv. Med Kits than I started with when I return to base. I keep 25 on me, use 10 and still loot about 12-14. I haven't felt the need to craft any since the update happened. Health kits heal 25/50/75% base, and the medic talent adds 20/40/60% of that on top. This makes Simple Med Kits heal 30/35/40%, and Standard Med Kits heal 60/70/80%. At the top end, you're healing more than a base Adv. Med Kit. And you don't need Ethanol to craft Standards. You WILL end up max spec'd into the Medic talent, too. Also, still getting AP ammo drops. The 6C ammo has never dropped, so no change there. My fire team and I are running the defense missions because we're trying to find optimal base designs. So far we've got the Dirt Bike Track and Overby CP on lock. Still working out an optimal Drill site. Might be Tylovden. Check the forum for when I post my report.
The new storyline is OK, but having to farm the new resources is a game killer for me. I've been playing for about 3 years now, so it's sad to say, but this will likely be the end for me. It almost seems like this update is intended to kill the game. I wish you could erase the update.
To be honest the things they did bad Trump what they did good, I finished the story and I think I'm done with the game. This update seems like mostly a big f you to the community, they fixed nothing we asked for and made quality of life worse. They really did just ruin the game.
Generation Zero is a great beer drinking game. Or it use to be. It's like the game just came out of Beta... was working, sort of, and now with the latest and greatest; the game is almost as buggy as it was when it first came out. The crafting thing is now a nightmare. I'm not surprised to see long-time customers who paid for all the DLCs are now asking for a refund if it's not fixed and changed. I'm told that's not an unreasonable request now in the E.U. The game is certainly broken now. It's not as fun. I regret sinking a crap load of money into this game and company for myself, family, and friends. If the game isn't fixed I'll never buy another game from this company and I'll keep track of the company lead names to make sure I'm not sucked into buying a product from a new studio that's simply a re-brand of a company, run by crooks, that went bankrupt to avoid their corporate liabilities and responsibilities. I've watched that soft of thing happen in North America, too often, and it's never a pretty thing. We'll see soon enough.
The Dev's FORCED many players into Base building to get a Reaper. Now they are FORCING players again for some basic kit! Never done base building! NEVER WILL!!! PS. Anyone know when the servers get shut down?
What do you mean it's hard to come across first aid kits? Whenever I'm low on advanced first aids I just go and hunt Spetsnaz Lynx patrols. They usually drop an advanced first aid kit from time to time on Xbox in my experience. And yes, this is Post-Update. Also, just saying. I hope they revert these changes. Like, allow phosphorous to be used to make the Concrete walls, but keep the Soviet/Resistance walls phosphorous free. Though, one silver lining I had with this is Soviet's raiding the bases. I've only played on Gardberg mine control point (Drill special building) one time on hard, and I got raided by Soviet machines.
VEEERY unpopular opinion. But I'm actually gonna miss the sliver and red wood design for the 5 star AI-76. The change for the M16 design, I still welcome.
I wish they wouldve gave us the skin as an alternative look rather than replace it. So if people arent keen on the new refreshed look, they can change it to the old one via weapon skin.
i hate this update its slowed everything down the XP the materials and resources and experimental weapons before i was farming them like crazy but now i just having a hard time seeing anything fun anymore i wish i could rollback the update but you cant on ps5 and way dose this game not have no swimming i lost a reaper because of those stupid dogs pushed it into the river 😠 i almost threw my control at the TV
This whole update was garbage! The new island is stupid and barren, the new experimentals suck, the new missions break for no reason, the changes to crafting are terrible, and overall it's a piss poor way to end off any game let alone a game that the community actually enjoyed and made successful.

Unpopular opinion. I hope they leave it as is. This new system actually makes finding things in the wild more valuable and the base defence realisticly makes more sense. I think endgame ativities are now more meaningfull than just messing around and getting stuff easily. The initial purpose if the game was to had a hard time with the machines but it was so easy to get top tier medkits, ammo etc. that people just played without using any strategies with a sense of danger.

Literally just go killing, me and my mate just went killing for ten mins and got like 200 med kits and I think it was 40000 ammo for each gun we had just from drops
Absolute nightmare now ... i won't be doing any more defence bases , it's so stupid how they have done this update ... went in last night put 200 data in for the vulture ... and it didn't appear so bloody annoyed atm..and is it worth even putting a ticket in any more ...took a Reaper down and no ammo and no weapons what so ever... i mean wtf !!!! Bearing in mind I'm level 180 and not a newbie... but they have deffo ruined this game ...Also if you are doing this with a friend , they get nothing so there's no incentive to do these base defence with mates now either ...
Think what upset me the most. Being somewhat new to this game. My hubs and I play it together. We worked so hard to bring down a Reaper. I got the experimental weapon. He got nothing. That's not fair at all.
Btw now starting a defense mission causes all machines to instantly become agro towards you no matter where they are and that makes many bases near impossible to defend
By that I mean the machines that roam around and shouldn't even be participating in the mission will become agro

I was confused as hell where they came from its like wave after wave, and I kid you not, they came from 2 Harvesters, who's over the hill pass the forest........
I hate it. To the point I will no longer use it. They screwed up the the weapon augmentation system too. I wish I could uninstall the update.

yeah the payouts for the base defense is underwhelming. The mechanics i enjoy a bit more but i feel that's more to do with the free base repair.
The resources im struggling still outside of base defence is Uranium, wood and Concrete.
I really wish they boost harvesting wood from one tree would yield 10 to 30 wood rather just 1. 😑
the best way to change it would simply be to make the new resources be used strictly for bulk crafting and more permanent equipment upgrades like the armor upgrades because even though I do enjoy base defense the amount of resources needed is too much for the average player.
another thing that would be nice is if they would just remove storage limits all together for those of us that want to be able to stack as many resources and as much ammo as possible. (im aware that there is a bug to allow you to do this with scrap but it gets tedious having to take everything out just to scrap something)
I feel so bad for anyone that didn’t already have max level clothing and supplies already stocked up for…well, everything. They’re going to have to revise everything or it’s just not going to be as fun anymore.

I've put a good amount of time into this game and I'm sad to say this last update is very disappointing to me. The mandatory defense for the really rare craft items is a horrible idea. Not only that but the changes to materials needed for things like the advanced med kit is ridiculous. I don't get the idea of hampering the fun of the player base in a PVE game by making important items much harder to get. And I'm still pissed from them changing the yielded amount of .50 bmg AP per batch from 15 to 3. If I want to make 100 rounds I have to press the craft button 34 times. For me it feels like a bittersweet ending to this game.
It's super ridiculous and seems almost contemptuous of the players. If the devs aren't going to roll back this bullshit we might have to rely on mods or cheats. (I like using WeMod to change the time of day. Don't like playing in the dark all the time.) Base defense just needed one thing: PUSH A BUTTON TO START IT. Why do I have to attack robots in the environment first, and then it's random about which one of my bases is going to get the mission. It's dumb. The fun of base defense is trying to design the base to get robots to fall into traps. Even in the old way that was a bit slapdash. Sniper towers and machine gun turrets just drew aggro moreso than actually killing robots. Yeah, one-button reset is kinda cool, but the absurd requirements for building and crafting is terrible. My carpentry skills are basic, but I know enough that a plywood wall isn't made with Steel and Phosphorous and NOT wood! Sheesh.
I also get non-stop robot spawns even after the drill\chemical\furnace mission is over. I don't get it.
They should have given us a way to use mods, and they really messed up the crafting idk why they added this
I personally am not a fan of base building, i love this game and will continue to play it, but it is so difficult doing these defend missions to get the resources. I play solo, and have brought down a reaper solo and these defend missions are such a pain. I hope they revamp it as well.
I hate base building and have completely avoided building them in this game.
And that's when I under the next questions for the devs: What is wrong with you!? Defend the base in order to farm materials for regular medkits instead of the experimental only? They must wake up.
They're actively being dissolved, we'll be lucky to get a few more updates to patch everything up.

I was level 51 before the update came out. All I can say is I am glad I had a boatload of resources saved up and Soviet walls all built around my compounds
The way to go is to use the medical slug ammo with the experimental shotgun. You get healed 100 percent, and you get 20 slugs for only 1 refined tungsten. Where as you need 5 ethanol to craft 1 advanced med kit. Wild. They made my decision for me and to be honest I haven’t used advanced med kits since I learned how to use exp pump shotgun for healing myself.
I've been playing since launch day. I'm not happy any all about these changes. Base building never appealed to me so I never did it. Having to craft AP ammo now is a major turn off, as is having to grind for little payoff. Not sure what they were thinking with these changes, it kind of sucked all the excitement out of this update to where I might just wait and see what they do before returning.

Deadass they had the right idea but leaving the game off like this is just sad/pathetic. It’s not in a good state and to stop updating after this relative disappointment in terms of balancing, it makes me upset. I’ve 100% the game with 1k+ hours. I collected all the new EXP weapons and completed the rest of the story. The base and resource thing killed it for me, just messes up progression. Plus my tier 3 lifesteal PKM got deleted for some reason, and I am not grinding 1200 ethanol just to get it back.
the new crafting update they did sucks i hate it. i dont mind doing base defense missions but being forced to do a base defense just to craft something thats needed feels passively (and most of the time just straight up) abusive to the players

They made it so machines now drop ammo for the weapons you are currently carrying, however to incentivize crafting, they only drop one type of each ammo.
FMJ for 7.62, SMG, and 5.56
HP for .32 ACP, Magnum ammo.
And AP for BMG.
I found it easy to just scrap excess FMJ or HP ammo and use the lead to make FMJ BMG.
Yep. No birdshot anymore for the shotgun either so it’s a soft nerf for the experimental pump action.
You get what you use. If you are using .50 fmj, you will get that. If you use .50 ap, you will get that.

I played 2 hard ones for drills so far one in farmland the other in the southeast region and they spawned Russian bots wich made it impossible to do since firebirds can shoot over the walls and one salvo the objective, you can't even stop them from doing so since they aggro automatically on them
there's no sugar coating it it sucks just have them like the crafting table but with a timer

I used special ammunition only on several occasions. When even AP ammunition has to have such a stupid time wasting inefficient procedure, then I will simply stay with the collectible ammo. The work of the dev team is then, in my case, for nothing. The collecting is time consuming enough, now to refine things? No way.
It's far worse than you've made it out to be. Players can't even build a quality wooden wall without specialized materials, so building a base will involve hours of grinding. It's clear enough that the kids who made this spent zero time playtesting it. From their perspective, there was no reason for them to. After all, they knew that the 'player base' would playtest it- and since this is the last update, they don't have to do a single thing about it. In this way, the small player base will slowly tire of the grind and disappear from the game. By the time that these amateurs have developed a NEW game, the player base will have forgotten all about this sham- and the whole business will start all over again.

I hate it a lot, making sure that the furnace doesn't overheat while fighting doesn't make it any better, considering when I played for first time furnace defense mission, I had military Hunter eat 2 rockets and take absolutely no damage and a full mag from AK didn't do it much (even some of the runners were taking a bit too much ammo for a military teir).
Clothing upgrades now take those refined materials too, you can forget about getting any decent protection because of that
Yeah, and it sucks ass, so much for protection from bullets or hiding in plain sight, and you need so much of one thing to one little thing, and rare resources drops from rare enemies, and to farm rare enemies isn’t fun or good gameplay, it’s up right horrible.
Thank you so much for making Generation Zero so much more enjoyable for me and others. Hopefully, the programmers will greatly up the rewards for doing these base defenses, which I will not be doing as well, because the return is way too small for the massive grind, and major loss of ammo.

Just started playing GZ the day before the new patch. 48 hours ago unlocked the first base and played the first defence and... that was awesome 😊 I hope the they change the conversion ratio. As you say 100:12 it seems really low. Maybe 100:50 or let you put in even more material to obtain 500:250.
I was saving up concrete for the ag4 last tier mag upgraded which i have now but can't do it now as i need the 4 refined 92U.
I don't craft much as for medkits I just fast travel to known medkit spawns
I've come across hackers with the new update aswell. FYI they can go into your storage and take everything in your storage.
This update is an update with extremes. On one hand we got a new island and mission which was a good thing. Then we got the new crafting and what a crap show that is. Who ever was responsible for this needs to reverse this and bring back the crafting to the way it was. I am a long time player nearly 4,000hrs and this is a game changer for the worse. NOT HAPPY
I think the intrinsic problem with the furnace is due to the nature of the heat vent mechanic and low conversion rates for elements like uranium you're forced to use a group, however those other people get nothing from the defence other than what you decide to share with them.
The 3 skill point for +60% extra medikit amount helps a lot..
I've never crafted i single bullet, i live of what the land gives me, looks like i will stick with that. I liked the old base defense, the new one is not my thing. Im gonna ignore that whole part of the game. 😂

This update definitely did bug my world. The two regions that I do have built up bases in don't have a high enough threat level to do a base defense (and while running around and killing robots to increase it is the answer, I; 1. Ran out of medkits two days after the update dropped [blame the turrets in the final part of the mission] and barely any robots are spawning for me right now) Along with that, the two bases I do have built up are drill bases, and they now require reinforced materials for many base walls.
For a solo player that tries to legitimately get stuff before submitting to the trading channels on the discord, this is highly infuriating

My game pretty much broke from the new upgrade and one of the base defences i did didnt end after the timer stopped. I swear this game is worse now than it was a year ago. I hope they still make bug fixes and tweaks for this update. Leaving on this update is like getting a lump of coal up your butt for xmas 😐
It ended, the base defense basically draws in the entire regions enemies. It is a whole another problem.

@JoniEU- yeah atleast you can auto repair for no resources cost whenever. I see why they made that move because no way you could build up resources and afford to repair the base. It is a slog now.
@@dataanalystbynight4375 I also got a bug where when i pressed O on my controller, it would bring the message for interacting with a base defence for the 1st time. It was really annoying and kinda ruined my game for a bit. I was streaming the game so its recorded for evidence, it also meant i couldnt crouch or sprint when i wanted to. I also got a bug that made the triangle take me to one of the instructions where the schematics are. This game is more broken than it was like 2 years ago. Really disappointed in this update.

Been hardly crafting anything even before, simply because my loot goblin playstyle gave me way more than i needed.
In fact i had to start crafting recently because i could not store more stuff in my maxed crafting/storage chests.
Now i am always rocking around with homing turrets and stuff just to make sure that my storages don't overflow.
So will be fun to see if i will be forced to change my behavior in game.
The crafting changes ARE NOT good for the health of the game. I understand that this was the last updated, but they definitely dropped the ball. I love this game, but the gameplay loop is now terrible. You're at a net loss if you play for any length of time. You used to be able to pick and choose what resources you picked off enemies. Now, you'll have to take EVERYTHING
i get that they wanted to make base defense more worth it, cause ever singe base assault came out the defense halve became kinda useless (requireing a lot more set-up and material cost, more bullets in general and beeing a lot more stressfull since you can't take it at your own pace, while not getting any real benefits from it). But this change was not it, not right at the end of the game's life cycle. if it came out a couple of years ago there would have been time to dial it in, balance the drop rates and material cost prices for items but there is no more time for that now..
I really really hope they revert the crafting changes and just make the new structures drop the old materials.
my idea of the drops:
furnace: titanium, lead, copper and alumunium (cause they're all refined metals)
drill: uranium, tungsten, concrete(?) and steel (cause they're more basic ground materials)
lab: accelerant, electrolyte, rubber, plastic, adhesive, gasoline (more chemical products)
The new update is just wrong, to get one thing you need the other thing, but to get the other thing you need the one thing, upgrading your clothes is also dumb, why do I need big blocks of alloys to make my clothes better at one thing, and the grenades, why is so stupid!? To make a grenade before is explosive and steel, but now we need explosive and some kind of rock, WTF? And to make a smoke grenade is going to need a grenade and adhesive, So stupid.
also the GZ is now even more buggy, try to spawn my robot friend in and they are immediately removed out of existence, try to put down some cover, nope, throw a hacking dart or firework, can’t do that either without it getting deleted, so fucking stupid in my opinion
I agree with this ruining crafting. If they had what they had, then just added the drills, furnace, and chem lab along with the new crafting stuff then that would be fine.
Crafting on GZ has been a chyt show since the day it was dumped on us. Don't bother with it, just choose your weapons wisely (PVG90 exp and PVM71 gold is a good start) augment the PVM and learn to component hit whilst out turning their arc of fire. Choose your clothing wisely too, ensure less visibility and reduced bullet damage. I never craft for ammo or medpacks and never needed to. Then again, I've been playing it since 2019 and clocked up 1250 plus hours...... seen it, done it got the T shirt.
They basically brought back the survival horror aspect for sure. Now I feel broke at level 65 and ~300 hours. To be fair I already had all the weapons I wanted augmented as well as 8 bases built completely of Soviet concrete walls. So shuffling around resources wasn’t a big deal for phosphorus.
Also, med kits were always a scam in my opinion. For low levels they make sense. However ever sense I was able to get experimentals, I haven’t used advanced used the exp pump shotgun and medical slugs. Also, making them is cheap even with the update. For 1 refined tungsten, you 20 shells which will heal you to 100 percent from like no health. So, to me it works. What really sucks is the furnace. You not only have to defend it but also release the gas, which is an uber pain in the ass. And like 50 percent of the time I don’t hear it and end up with some slag.
My augmented weaposn have become extremely valuable and I glad I had all my crap prepped prior. However, I honestly feel sorry for anyone just starting out. If you climbing that hill I don’t know you have incentive to get into it, unless you really bought into the grind/survival horror aspect.
I like how Russian machines and harvesters attack now. Makes it easier to farm yhr more elusive 5 crowns but the fact is I have them already. So still doesn’t affect me.
However, the crafting is shit because even at a high level I feel broke. So yeah, sucks 😂. I had enough ammo stored like rockets and shock 7.62 to not have to worry about it.
Man this Update make me feel poor, i never had any of the things the add, but i aumented my weapons but after it? They removed all of them from my dlc weapons now im fucked cause i will never waste a minute grinding these missions.
Crafting now is well crap... Also the new experimental weapons drop is poor. I have so far killed 43 level 4 rivals and all I get is paint schemes for my runner...

I just started playing again after a two year break. This i don't like because I can't make the clothes I want. Never liked the building aspect of this game. That's when I stopped playing. I didn't come back to play just to do the defense crap.

if i had known the crafting snafu i would of used up all thousands of my uranium.
they either need to up the rates or make other sources as its lowered my motivation to do the stuff and mostly been using up my hoard of ammo.
as it is im using more med kits per run than i can craft and im using a life steal lmg to help offset it
Yeah I was annoyed at the new materials as well cos I never liked defense missions or bases in general. I didnt even know that I needed to defended those bases to make furnace run, nor did I knew about those other new buildings. On the other my playstyle never revolved around using 6 crown ammo, not even when assaulting bases or taking down reapers and vultures. I never had so much uranium to begin with, but I still get so much normal ammo I have to just drop it all around the world cos I literally can't carry more and both of my stashes are so full.
Maybe that is due to my playstyle, as I kinda like to run and gun but I tend to use weapons that drop a shitton of ammo and don't use it that much. Another thing I noticed that due to unlocking level cap I got the scavenger skill now, and those ammo boxed you find around the world, they are just nuts. It is borderline too easy to do base assault missions using absolutely nothing but möller pp with hollow points (1 or 2 shots runners and disarms hunters easily) and granatgevär to blow up walls, then collect a bit of ammo boxes to find like 100 HEDP ammo for that. Runners drop .32 hp like candy as well, and yes HP instead of FMJ cos it does a shitton more damage to components so you want to be aiming fuel cells and weapons. Tick pods also drop super easily.
Then I round out my arsenal using 2 or 3 other weapons based on what ammo I have 20 to 30k in my stash and what I feel like using. Lately I've been having fun using -90% recoil SVD and go for that DMR playstyle.
this game doesn't tell us a damn thing in game, to learn anything you have to keep up with reading patch notes and not everybody reads those 💀
@IHaveBadWiFiBro Yeah, hence I didn't know about other new resourves, I had only noticed the alloys and furnace but I didn't really bother to figure out how things work out now. I assumed it would only timegate the new resources, that I would be able to turn on furnace and wait to get those alloys. But the defense missions, no thanks F that.

Why do they keep changing the crafting??? Crafting was fine the first time then they nuked it a few updates ago and then this update just further cripples crafting. Its utter bs and new players won't be able to craft their stuff until end game. It's stupid.
It's not the best or the worst, but the game has potential and if it wasn't the last update, they could do something interesting.

I never really used the experimental ammo given I've had more of a passive relation with generation zero.
It's a fun game and a good one at that but it's never been the core of my game time really. It definitely doesn't help that they basically killed crafting cus they nerfed the craft values for ammo so heavily and aggressively. Did it need a change, sure, but that much of a change is what I question. I don't hate base building but haven't ever had a good enough time with it given I'm not that great at it but also I had a base I liked but a map update happened that deleted my entire rear wall. Not to mention the high-end base parts, and now take these new resources from the furnace.
Stopped playing for a bit because I felt the game got too grindy even without finishing the storyline. I think I won’t come back after a while after hearing whatever the hell this is

I personally love The new system Bc i can repeat them over over And over again until my game crashes xd the most important thing is to seek The best locations for these new structures My personal favourites are as follow: (Chemical lab) That's the Bicycle Area base (Near boo bruk AB) hope i write it right for drills there are ravienen (definitely not the best English) and the furnace is In the sout coast thats the Camping area on the top left (over almost 2000 hours i don't know the names blame me later thx

I'm of the mindset that this is the most egregious and blatant "throw our hands up" update I've ever had the displeasure of playing.
Note how a while back they released a roadmap for the game and content they were planning down the line?
Strange isn't it... how suddenly Steam releases a new ToS targeting developers to set *AND* meet deadlines when creating roadmaps, and that if they can't be followed through, you can delay the promised update up to 3 months, but if you miss or you fail to meet your targets too many times. Steam reserves the right to stop selling your game on their storefront and offer people who most recently bought the game full refunds for the purchase if they so desired to.

I'm actually just DONE with this game. Maybe I read too much into it. But at this point I don't care. I feel betrayed more than anything. How the fuck does someone screw their game economy this bad who has a brain in between their ears? This felt like an insult. If the developers aren't going to respect my time, then I'll give them none in return.
My experience with this update has been poor more bugs that I can count items I placed down disappearing but still being consumed and crashes, one at the chemical plant push the button crashed game and lag as soon as I start game
no I don't like the crafting it's not worth it especially since no more updates to support this idea. As for base building if they allowed you to upgrade the wall strength or increased building limit more pill boxes letting us go all out maybe making the tedious farming a little worth it.
I like generation zero this hurts, but honest not really sure I trust their next game to get invested and they just ruined their own game it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth💔
I don't know how bad you are at the game, but I take a lot of damage, and I end up with more Adv. Med Kits than I started with when I return to base. I keep 25 on me, use 10 and still loot about 12-14. I haven't felt the need to craft any since the update happened.
Health kits heal 25/50/75% base, and the medic talent adds 20/40/60% of that on top. This makes Simple Med Kits heal 30/35/40%, and Standard Med Kits heal 60/70/80%. At the top end, you're healing more than a base Adv. Med Kit. And you don't need Ethanol to craft Standards. You WILL end up max spec'd into the Medic talent, too.
Also, still getting AP ammo drops. The 6C ammo has never dropped, so no change there.
My fire team and I are running the defense missions because we're trying to find optimal base designs. So far we've got the Dirt Bike Track and Overby CP on lock. Still working out an optimal Drill site. Might be Tylovden. Check the forum for when I post my report.
I'm level 74 and my game bugged after the update and gave me a large number of skill points that allowed me to take all the skills. Am I the only one?
They pretty much ruined experimental ammo crafting for me so I ain’t gonna use it no more, I’ll just stick to good old 7.62 FMJ lol.

The new storyline is OK, but having to farm the new resources is a game killer for me. I've been playing for about 3 years now, so it's sad to say, but this will likely be the end for me. It almost seems like this update is intended to kill the game. I wish you could erase the update.

To be honest the things they did bad Trump what they did good, I finished the story and I think I'm done with the game. This update seems like mostly a big f you to the community, they fixed nothing we asked for and made quality of life worse. They really did just ruin the game.
Generation Zero is a great beer drinking game. Or it use to be. It's like the game just came out of Beta... was working, sort of, and now with the latest and greatest; the game is almost as buggy as it was when it first came out. The crafting thing is now a nightmare. I'm not surprised to see long-time customers who paid for all the DLCs are now asking for a refund if it's not fixed and changed. I'm told that's not an unreasonable request now in the E.U. The game is certainly broken now. It's not as fun.
I regret sinking a crap load of money into this game and company for myself, family, and friends.
If the game isn't fixed I'll never buy another game from this company and I'll keep track of the company lead names to make sure I'm not sucked into buying a product from a new studio that's simply a re-brand of a company, run by crooks, that went bankrupt to avoid their corporate liabilities and responsibilities. I've watched that soft of thing happen in North America, too often, and it's never a pretty thing.

What do you mean it's hard to come across first aid kits? Whenever I'm low on advanced first aids I just go and hunt Spetsnaz Lynx patrols. They usually drop an advanced first aid kit from time to time on Xbox in my experience. And yes, this is Post-Update.
Also, just saying. I hope they revert these changes. Like, allow phosphorous to be used to make the Concrete walls, but keep the Soviet/Resistance walls phosphorous free.
Though, one silver lining I had with this is Soviet's raiding the bases. I've only played on Gardberg mine control point (Drill special building) one time on hard, and I got raided by Soviet machines.

The change for the M16 design, I still welcome.
I wish they wouldve gave us the skin as an alternative look rather than replace it. So if people arent keen on the new refreshed look, they can change it to the old one via weapon skin.

Yeah I'm dropping this game. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement...
i hate this update its slowed everything down the XP the materials and resources and experimental weapons before i was farming them like crazy but now i just having a hard time seeing anything fun anymore i wish i could rollback the update but you cant on ps5 and way dose this game not have no swimming i lost a reaper because of those stupid dogs pushed it into the river 😠 i almost threw my control at the TV

lol i dont even have the option to make furnaces. Crafting is literally impossible for me now. Dogshit game.
Only one type of resource is allowed per base. If you mouse over the icons on the map it shows which kind you can build where. But yeah, it sucks...
This whole update was garbage! The new island is stupid and barren, the new experimentals suck, the new missions break for no reason, the changes to crafting are terrible, and overall it's a piss poor way to end off any game let alone a game that the community actually enjoyed and made successful.
There is a lot wrong with the numbers ye said mate, getting alloys is pretty easy
And they do drop AP rounds from kills
Also the game got crazy easy now
The bots drop wayyyyyyyyyy too much stuff now ie ammo and meds
They really gotta make the game harder

Unpopular opinion. I hope they leave it as is. This new system actually makes finding things in the wild more valuable and the base defence realisticly makes more sense. I think endgame ativities are now more meaningfull than just messing around and getting stuff easily. The initial purpose if the game was to had a hard time with the machines but it was so easy to get top tier medkits, ammo etc. that people just played without using any strategies with a sense of danger.
They have make this base defence more lucrative a lower the cost for amo and meds!

I hate this update!!! I uninstalled the game today, GZ devs really made it worse than before. This game is trash now unfortunately...
Surely there will be a patch, on the forum there's already a shit ton of posts about the bugs
