This is one of my favorite moments in the game. Chilling epicness and that music is pure inspirational bliss. I think I still have to give it FF XVI on overall musical score but when BG3 music slaps it really hits home hard.
@@BelfastBikeryep, tears all around. My favorite moment in the game, and every time I play through it or watch it the intensity gets to me and I start crying. It's crazy how this game makes me care so much about these characters.
The music in this scene is fucking amazing and I think my favorite moment is seeing Jaheira be given a spark of hope, and then when the camera pans to her swords and the horn kicks in, ugh it’s just so good
My character laid down his lute and tomfoolery and took up a sword to devote himself to the moonmaiden as a paladin after he witnessed the power of Selune.
Meanwhile my dark urge cleric (who was Selunite to argue with Shadowheart): "So, Vlaakith and now Shar, that is two gods I made angry this adventure, let's see if we can make it to three."
The sword of the lady is a organization that serve Selune and undermine the Dark Justiciar. They also known as LUNAtic. Check the wiki I did not make this up.
I love how after the touch she just...falls to her knees. You can see for a few moments how much pain she just...let out. She played tough, accepted everything and more until that one...single...moment. She finally realized it was okay to feel the pain and then let it be her driving force to continue on. Because it was finally gone. She accepted it for the first time in who knows how long, because she knew it'd be the last time she'd ever feel it. And she decided to let that moment fuel her next step in life.
This has honestly been such an excellent example of storytelling done RIGHT. Poor Shadowheart too, she clearly does the right thing but she's punished for it by being abandoned by her own fellow followers. Luckily she has us!
All of the origin characters are, in one way or another, dealing with the consequences of "running from their past", Shadowheart had but one monumental moment to choose a new way forward. A cruel punishment for running from your past until it comes to a head. But honestly Sharran worship sounds worse 🙊
@@XeverSeven In the lore, Sharrans are just spitful nihalists, full of nothing. They are slaves to a dark creed, to hatful to feel anything else, and to spitful to prosper. There is a reason Shar worship is ilegal, while many unpleasent religions are not...
And Dame Aylin, and Selûne and the Selunites. I'm in Act III, so I don't know how her story ends - No spoilers please. But I'm pretty sure that if she walked into a temple of Selûne and told them that hey she's a refugee from Shar, ahe was a Selunite child who was kidnapped and brainwashed and she just turned her back on them and freed Selûne's daughter and she needs help, the Selunites would form up in a protective phalanx around her within thirty seconds.
@@ThatTCG Yeah furst you think the Sharrans are a morally ambigous, grey area cult but then it turns out no, Shar is a vengeful, spiteful b***h and really Selûsne has been the good side all along. And Dame Aylin, as much as she is a no-bullshit Biblical angel of war and divine fury, she really is all honor and loyalty and stands by Shadowheart and guides her. She tells the brutal truth but she also offers comfort. And Isobel, and all the Selunites, just, really good people. Shar, meanwhile, although she was the one who caused all this, has the audacity to act like Shadowheart was the one who betrayed her. Ungh. I hated her so much. This game is truly amazing.
My main is a cleric of Selune. This was the only thing she fought for since she found the first sign in Moonhaven that Shadowheart was an old Selunite child. My arc peaked in this moment.
This is definitely absolutely one of my favorite parts in gaming history ever personally. The boss area, the Nightsong herself, the music, the cutscenes…. It’s like what people say “I wish I could go back and experience it the first time again”.
one of the greatest game cutscenes in my personal top list. Love the song, love the power, the anger. Replayed 10 times in a row and still having a goosebumps
I was in love with the game up until then already but this scene almost shocked me by how damn well crafted and emotional it was. You muck around in total darkness and desolation for hours and hours and suddenly, there is an actual light at the end of the tunnel. Just stunning.
I love this scene. The moment I got it was the moment that I fell even more in love with BG3. It really hits the feeling that you've finally levelled the playing field and you're ready to take the fight to Ketheric and his minions. Story-wise, it inspired my lore bard to become a blade (college of swords) and take up an oath to Selune (Oath of the Ancients).
What's even more badass is that it happens smack dab in the MIDDLE of the Shadowfell, where Shar is at her strongest. We defy her, free an Aasimar, and Selune's power shines through. It also marks the first time we see truly divine intervention in a matter from a GOOD god. Incredibly done.
It takes quite a bit of companion rating to be able to convince her without also doing a persuasion check. Literally need to have a strong bond already, especially if she hasnt been romanced. It also interests me that going in too strong WILL alienate her and you have to softely poke at her doubts or she double downs.
@@tenjenk If you treated her and others right, you won't have to take a single verbal action in the dialogue with Dame Aylin/Nightsong. Shadowheart defies Shar all on her own. And THAT nearly drove me to tears.
@@MrMcp1995 Provided you have shown to her in prior conversations and acts that she can and does enjoy doing the right thing. Otherwise, she hasn't had enough character development.
@@MrMcp1995 it doesnt just happen though. You need a high companion rating + through the game upto this point you need to have made key choices in previous discussions and missable-encounter conversations to not let her reinforce her faith in Shar and instead doubt it. Otherwise she stabs Nightsong and everything gets multiple layers of fked.
Same, paladin player here. My character is a paladin-cleric of Selûne multiclass. To say that this scene and the storyline was satisfying would be an understatement.
Not many games can make me feel chills. The Mass Effect series, the Dragon Age series, Zelda, and Undertale. That's about it. But this scene is so moving. Loved it.
Man I've had Dragon Age in my Steam library and haven't gotten around to playing it yet. But if you way it can make you feel like Mass Effect or Undertale, or Baldur's Gate 3 ---- I'd better install it.
Dragon Age Origins was the last game which made me feel this way. Like sure other games had a taste or flavoring of it but none so rich as DA:O and BG3
I wish the music at 6:58 was official. Damn it goes so well with the scene. A light of hope flying in the sky while Jaheira turns to her scimitars getting battle-ready. Then the music gets even more epic. God I love this game.
When Narrator said "But your bond is strong" I as Drow Selunite Cleric decided to trust Shadowheart's decision. My cleric is someone who always do good things and believe bad people too can change so she thought she should trust Shadowheart would make the right decision which was to find out the truth of her origin and how she "converted" to Lady Shar. So for both choices my cleric stayed quiet and let Shadowheart decided on her own. So the moment Shadowheart threw the spear aside I started to get overwhelmed and when the song came up I choked as some tears appeared on my eyes and when the scenes where Nightsong flew from the mausoleum to the tower I legit cried as people looked at the sky and started to have hope. Hope to defeat the shadows and lord of necromancy. The scenes were magnificent I felt incredibly glad to believe Shadowheart wouldn't turn to Dark Justiciar
@@xuan.1611 Iirc there was some bits like saying how selune is a kind goddess things like that. But overall it was more to general comments like when you find out more about Shadowheart's past there will be choices to talk about Selune. Not necessarily just when you're a selunite ^^
@@MidoriGa95You can also kind of get in an argument with her about it a couple of times in Act I, and she says you lack tact for bringing it up, but I haven't gotten to Act 3 on that so not sure how much that affects dialogue after this moment

When I first saw this cutscene, it gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. This is what D&D is all about: boundless possibilities and the magic of a well-spun tale. It's mesmerizing how we transform our imagination into a world of endless potential, channeling our passion and creativity into crafting an incredible story, the players and the DM.
One of the most powerful moments in any game I've ever played. Extremely well crafted. And also shows how important music and audio in general are to the atmosphere of a moment. That song is so simple, and yet perfect.
My first Baldur's Gate and DnD game. This scene was special, because Act 1 and 2 was so dark and decrepid. Everything corrupted and evil, but then daughter of selune gets released. (I felt hopful like we'd stand a chance.) Seeing her attack was incredible. We defeated the last boss.
This is probably the coolest scene in the entire game for me. The music, acting, writing and design all in perfect conjunction, her rise and "metamorphosis" give me unparalleled amounts of goosebumps and an internal struggle from shedding tears. Nightsong is brilliantly badass.
Honestly, it had been so grim up until that point in Act 2, like, utter horror, darkness, evil, and then, all of a sudden, an fricken demi-god angelic being joins your side! What a powerful moment!
Aw man as soon as the music started playing i had tears in my eyes because honestly, half of my playthrough I didn't know wtf I was doing but here, for once, I instantly knew I made the right decision and that was such a relief!!
That moment you touch her shoulder and the music starts gives me full-body chills every time - it's like the game is telling you that you made the right choice. I haven't had the heart to do a Dark Shadowheart run yet purely because of this moment.
This scene gives me chills every single time! I have played the game three times now. And this third time I had headphones in and when the music starts when Shadowheart touches her shoulder the chills were stronger than the first two times! Such an incredible scene!
The scene where she flies away, my low spec PC froze lol. All I could see was maybe 2 frames of Jaheira looking up at the sky lol. Thanks for uploading
It's the first time, in the game, where you actually are reminded that there are supernatural forces of good that are in play as well. After all your party has been through, it feels like a huge payoff for the struggle (unless you're evil).
Just got to this moment in my playthrough. And what a truly amazing scene! Truly the highlight of the game for me so far. Just the sheer emotional impact of it all. Especially if you get invested into Shadowheart's story and quest to become Dark Justician. Playing as male Tiefling Druid/Thief whose love interest is Shadowheart. I was starting to become a little Sharran just because of Shadowheart's devotion but then decided to give her the choice to decide what to do with Nightsong, without any intereference. I'm not a controlling boyfriend lol. So was truly surprised that she chose to spare her. So emotional! And that music after. Just WOW RESPLENDENT!
And twitter idiots say us men don't like strong female characters ... Shadowheart loses everything for the life and freedom of one she doesn't even know ... and then has to go find her new path to be something more than she clearly is .. .what an amazingly written strong female character ... and she didnt even have to be a mary sue ...
If you just "trust her, don't interfeer" and "say nothing" in the second decision she also gives up on killing her, and that's 100% on Shadowheart with no interference of you, i love this path so much
@@thomaspaine7098 Yeah the approval level dictates not only how much influence you currently have to persuade a character....it also dictates how much influence you HAVE had over the course of the journey and how much you might have influenced their character arc...which is a really cool touch by Larian.
This was exceptionally done. One of the most memorable when introducing a characters significance, the soundtrack was perfect for the scene. The “not quite sharran” line was great, almost a Thor like resemblance in intellect 😂 First time I did the ketheric fight, she took him down in one move with a smite crit. 😂

The music, the animation, it’s all good. But the thing I love most is that after a century of sorrow and death, the thing needed to free the Nightsong is a simple gesture of friendship. And deciding to trust Shadowheart only for her to make the right choice on her own? Beautiful stuff. This is how you tell a powerful story in a video game.

i had tears in my eyes at that point.
Brooo same. It completely shifted my outlook and intentions with the game. Completely chilling scene.
It's crazy how this game makes me care so much about these characters.
goosebumps and teary eyes for me. It was amazing
The music in this scene is fucking amazing and I think my favorite moment is seeing Jaheira be given a spark of hope, and then when the camera pans to her swords and the horn kicks in, ugh it’s just so good
If you play as origin Shadowheart, you actually hear Shar speaking to you in your mind when Aylin is convincing you to not go through with it
You can hear Shar as a Tav or other origin characters if you probe her mind.
“What did you say?” Gave me literal shivers. She knew. She knew then that she wasn’t going through with it.
My character laid down his lute and tomfoolery and took up a sword to devote himself to the moonmaiden as a paladin after he witnessed the power of Selune.
Im not surprised lol
My paladin was also inspired by this scene!!
That's some good Roleplay
Meanwhile my dark urge cleric (who was Selunite to argue with Shadowheart):
"So, Vlaakith and now Shar, that is two gods I made angry this adventure, let's see if we can make it to three."
And she decided to let that moment fuel her next step in life.
one of the best depictions of pure, righteous anger not just in video games but in media as a whole
Shar tortured Shadowheart after this, but Selune pulled Shadowheart out in exchange to accepted Selune as her goddess.
I just love the way the shadows fall away wherever she flies
"Not what will happen... what will you do?" So powerful a line 😮
Our lady of silver, hear me.
She who guides, the moonmaiden Selune, Mother of the so called Nightsong. The Nightsong is NO MORE
one of the greatest game cutscenes in my personal top list. Love the song, love the power, the anger. Replayed 10 times in a row and still having a goosebumps
What a powerful scene. The song is so stirring!
That scene with that music, was something else 🫶
@@Muschelschubs3r I found that out later, and it was pretty amazing to just go fully hands off and trust her.
I wanted to persuade Shadowheart to turn away from Shar, needed 30 and rolled a fucking nat20 lmfao. Top 10 gaming moment for me.
Ironically, if you do nothing at all, you get the same result.
@@MrMcp1995 Provided you have shown to her in prior conversations and acts that she can and does enjoy doing the right thing. Otherwise, she hasn't had enough character development.
Me too! Legendary moment, one I'm never going to forget.
First time around that's exactly what I did too! DC 30, rolled a natural 20.
As someone who loves paladin and being that good guy, this just filled me with joy when i got there.
Gets even better when romanced with shadowheart
Same, paladin player here. My character is a paladin-cleric of Selûne multiclass. To say that this scene and the storyline was satisfying would be an understatement.
this is the way
Not many games can make me feel chills.
Ya gotta try Witcher 3.
I wish the music at 6:58 was official. Damn it goes so well with the scene. A light of hope flying in the sky while Jaheira turns to her scimitars getting battle-ready. Then the music gets even more epic. God I love this game.
Right? I came here looking for the track when it wasn't on the OST!
do you happen to know the name of that piece?
@@kenadykrause443 I could only find it as Shadowfell OST. Not sure what's the name, honestly.
The composer released an extended version of “Nightsong” that includes the part at 6:58
This is probably my favorite scene in the game so far, it's just such a powerful moment
This is a pure and sincere moment. It is the height of the game for me. It remained good after this, but this was the peak
The scenes were magnificent
I felt incredibly glad to believe Shadowheart wouldn't turn to Dark Justiciar
ohhhh do you get special interaction with shadowheart if u are a selunite cleric?
@@xuan.1611
Iirc there was some bits like saying how selune is a kind goddess things like that.
@@JB-xl2jc
Yep every time you find something relates to Selune there will be dialogue between Tav and Shadowheart or just comments from Shadowheart. On my 2nd playthrough where my Tav is tiefling storm sorcerer she found a book about Selune children of coming age book in the Blighted Village Act 1 while Shadowheart was in the party and it triggered special dialogue from Shadowheart. In the previous playthrough I did find the book but since I was cleric I didnt bring Shadowheart in the party so it was refreshing to see different outcomes
@@MidoriGa95 Yep there are actually three triggers in the blighted village, there, the altar of Selune, and one other I can't recall (hopscotch spot maybe?). Only one can fire in a playthrough though.
This was so epic the first time i saw it ingame. Broken captured Nightsong released as basically an avatar of her goddess fury.
Aylin
i loaded up previous saves because i fucked up the prisioners quest lol. But watching this scene again was worth it.
@@hugof1818same bro. Same.
This game uses music so damn well. All the build up and intensity gives way to a beautiful ballad.
And it was after this cutscene I knew BG3 is game of the year….
just got this in the game, had to rewatch it. such an awesome moment
The goosebumps I got when the vocals started after Shadowheart touched her. I was in awe for the whole scene. 🥺
One of the most powerful moments in any game I've ever played. Extremely well crafted. And also shows how important music and audio in general are to the atmosphere of a moment. That song is so simple, and yet perfect.
this is when I knew just how good this game is
My first Baldur's Gate and DnD game. This scene was special, because Act 1 and 2 was so dark and decrepid. Everything corrupted and evil, but then daughter of selune gets released. (I felt hopful like we'd stand a chance.)
Seeing her attack was incredible. We defeated the last boss.
I loved Aylin in this game. Her background, this scene, her forthright zeal.
She's a fucking paladin alright.
I could feel what "sacred" means
YES
No matter how many times i play through bg3, i never get tired of seeing this.
This is one of the most epic moments in gaming history.

I consider this the turning of the tide against The Absolute.
That moment you touch her shoulder and the music starts gives me full-body chills every time - it's like the game is telling you that you made the right choice. I haven't had the heart to do a Dark Shadowheart run yet purely because of this moment.
The music really embodies the "Repairing the broken hearts" of this act II.
God this scene hits so hard 😂 act 1 and 2 feel like a whole game in of itself and the ending of act 2 the conclusion. So good! ❤
I love this cutscene so much, I think I've watched this like 600 times now :')
The Music for the Nightsong was really beautifully done
I’ve played through this game 3 times so far, and rescued the Nightsong every time, and yet this scene never fails to send chills down my spine
Aylin "you freed me let's kill ketheric thorn" also Aylin 10 minutes later "got stomp by ketheric can you free me again ?"
She must have leg cramps after 100 years in that ritual circle to be fair
Goosebumps EVERYTIME
My absolute favorite cutscene/scene whatsoever of the whole game!!!! And the following flight of Nightsong is epic!
One of the most powerful cutscenes in gaming history. Absolutely beautiful.
This was the coolest thing I had ever seen when I played. I was irl geeking like a little girl. She’s so fucking cool!
7:30 You can FEEL as Hope and Light comes back to this region, a century of sorrow and shadow banished
The moment Jaheira looks at her scimitars is powerful
I CAN"T HOLD MY TEARS FROM 4:21
Had to come watch this on UA-cam because I didn't have the frames to experience this scene in all its glory.❤
Aylin falling to her knees and getting her wings and armour back made me at least twice as gay as I already was god bless 🫡 🌙
i cried when i saw this the first time
games hadn't made me feel something in a while
Aylin blasting off toward Moonrise has big bring me thanos energy
And twitter idiots say us men don't like strong female characters ... Shadowheart loses everything for the life and freedom of one she doesn't even know ... and then has to go find her new path to be something more than she clearly is .. .what an amazingly written strong female character ... and she didnt even have to be a mary sue ...
The women in bg3 did us proud
the female characters in bg3 are so well written, i even really loved lae'zel by act 2
If you just "trust her, don't interfeer" and "say nothing" in the second decision she also gives up on killing her, and that's 100% on Shadowheart with no interference of you, i love this path so much
Depends on your approval level, I heard that only for her to kill the nightsong
@@thomaspaine7098 Yeah the approval level dictates not only how much influence you currently have to persuade a character....it also dictates how much influence you HAVE had over the course of the journey and how much you might have influenced their character arc...which is a really cool touch by Larian.
The tide turns with this moment, and Larian has done a great job depicting it as the triumph it is.
This was exceptionally done. One of the most memorable when introducing a characters significance, the soundtrack was perfect for the scene.
The “not quite sharran” line was great, almost a Thor like resemblance in intellect 😂
First time I did the ketheric fight, she took him down in one move with a smite crit. 😂
That's what I loved about it too. Often the cinematics of such players don't match the gameplay. But DAMN she was kicking Ketheric's ass the whole time. You really got the sense she's way OP compared to him.
@@Dracomiesi had the opposite experience lol. Kethric focused fire spell on her and the skeletons did a number on her before i had to save her again

Thanks for posting this. I just now got to this part, and my game keeps crashing during this cutscene, so I've never been able to see the whole thing. Had to skip the cutscene to be able to go on with the game.
что то не так, ни одного краша.
Yeah i was having the same issue. Was hear to se the cutscene proper. I was playing coop and got kicked out of the cutscene and stuck. Got to see her flying off but not the transformation sequence.
Thank you so much for posting this, I should have made a save near this so I could watch it again. It was so unexpected, my jaw dropped into the Shadowfell XD
played this game blind as in no walkthroughs & stuff and was a little bummed thinking I am nearing the end of my playthrough just because of how grand this scene was. Imagine my joy when I realized this was actually half the game lol
This scene just kicks ass
that Jaheira looks to the sword's moment gives me goosebump
One of the highest moments in videogame history
This is one of my top 2 moments from the game. It is honestly one of the most emotional moments and a masterclass in storytelling. I feel that Shadowhearts story is by far my favorite.
This still gives me chills. After feeling like things just can't get worse, the triumphant music and her flight made me just cheer.
“What did you say?” - that line was delivered perfect.
Anyone else impressed she slams the drum beat before it starts, almost as if she's setting the bpm for the song before it starts.
just reached act 3, this was one of the greatest moments in the entire game so far. this and then the fight through moonrise. i loved act 1 for its scale and how much was hidden around the place for you to find but the story beats of act 2 were something else.
Light after darkness. What a moment, Larian. I salute you
Just finished act 2… this scene was so beautiful… the sound track is soooo good!
that soundtrack kickin in right after Shadowheart touched her was one of the most beautiful moments in this game for me. Hit me right in the feels.
So epic. Gives me the chills every time I watch it.
when the music matched up with Alylin getting her armour I instantly became a sulunite instantly bro sign me up
The music was so beautiful in this scene, this entire scene cutscene made me choke up.
Chills. Wish there were more moments like this in the 3rd act
HEY DISNEY, thats how you do write STRONG female characters!
My first time, I didn't kill Bathzaer and that fight took forver!! I hated it but getting this whole cutscene was worth it. I had tears it was soo good!
I just pushed him off the ledge,no loot tho
The music, the animation, it’s all good. But the thing I love most is that after a century of sorrow and death, the thing needed to free the Nightsong is a simple gesture of friendship. And deciding to trust Shadowheart only for her to make the right choice on her own? Beautiful stuff. This is how you tell a powerful story in a video game.
My Tav after watching Aylin power up: ... Did I just watch a magical girl transformation scene??
