i think i've seen a banned band but never a barred bard
i'm awfully clever you know
well relatively
we need a version with a whistler now
❤
Idk, I think Astarion makes a for a pretty natural Hamelin rat catcher....
This game is filled with "they didn't need to do it, but they did it anyway" amounts of effort.
More like Larian had a bunch of Dos2 assets they could reuse, so they did, making BG3 appear to have more work done than it actually did. Making BG3 only took minor changes to Dos2. And the new stuff they did make for Bg3 often looks worse than dos2 (like spell icons and animations).
If anything i feel like bg3 was a low effort production considering the amount of stuff they recycled from their previous game.
@@Whisper0ak can you elaborate? are the bard song mechanics a reuse? genuinely curious
@@Whisper0ak Thats called smart time and effort saving. Why, and I mean this legitimately, make new icons if the old ones work fine and look good? Saves them time to put more time into shit that matters. Calling it low effort because they didn't model each individual asset is silly. Also, can you name any of the new icons that look worse, just so we have a baseline to compare?
@@ballisticwaffleslet the kid complain, he obviously doesn’t get attention at home
@@Whisper0ak Games are built on good foundations, BG3 resuse their assets from their Divinty 4.0 engine, Valves Source Engine made multiple game using similar assets like Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Garry's mod and Portal. All these games are considered to be in leagues of their own. Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Monster Hunter World and Rise.. list goes on.
Wyll is dancing with Tav offscreen.
most unforgettable haha
Haha perfect!
YESS!
what do you mean? Tav is the cameraman, and Wyll is the conductor.
No one likes Will because he's black
I love that everyone seems to pick flute for Gale and violin for Astarion. They just fit. :D
Flute involves a skilled tongue, checks out
Spot on
LOOOOOOOOOOL
I haven't played the game yet, but actually thought the instruments were sort of "assigned" to certain characters, because I ALWAYS see this arrangement in videos.
Flute makes since because Gale blows.....up
Gale canonically owns a flute (and, hopefully without spoiling too much for those who haven't played, it only appears in his inventory if something bad happens to him). One of Astarion's selection voice lines he says "~the danse macabre~" and can eventually learn a special spell called "The Danse Macabre" (if you give him a certain item) so violin is very fitting. :)
Needed a bard without an instrument to have a sixth, whistler.
The most precarious of all instruments, just try to do a whole song flawless at full blast ...stuff of nightmares. There is a reason why world is filled with whistlers but only the tiniest fraction of them ever do it professionally.
Missed Opportunity to have him here whistling along
@@volvo245 I am really good at whistling but I just can't do those really high notes because when I do it just becomes like blowing air or it sounds like a whistling voice crack lol
That's technically Volo.
He whistles if you play beside him.
Just need to play near where Volo is at your camp and he will join in I think 🤔
Laezel as a bard is so funny to watch xD
Baezel*
She's like grossed out majorly
@@classicHarleyQAbsolutely correct
@@classicHarleyQ Basedsel
I remember the lore stating that they have art like this, but since they have an evolved psionic sense, that their music and such is completely different from what we would imagine.
Ah. The memories. My favorite part of the game: Bard playing whatever they have in hand while Astarion sneak back and pick everyone’s pocket.
For me, it's probably playing Bard, killing an enemy with your attack on your turn, then busting out your instrument to start playing it over the enemy's corpse as a way to end your turn.
Hehehe I was fighting the Shar surgeon undead guy and the final enemy, one of the sisters, slipped and fell on ice on her turn with 1 HP left. The only choice was to end her misery with a vicious mockery. Perfect gameplay
I played a paladin so I usually skipped the naughty and illegal stuff 😭.
The next playthrough I'm gonna play as an oathbreaker and will enjoy causing mischief everywhere I go 😂.
If you're willing to let your bard get hurt and you're gonna START a fight outside of a cut scene... I like to put down a glyph of warding, have my bard stand in the middle, play a song, and then have Astarion shoot someone thus aggro-ing the enemy.
I could never figure out how to pickpocket people
if you play near volo, he will whistle along.
You can also whistle when performing by unequipping your instrument. Often times, it's just nice to whistle.
I'll never believe that he's a wizard. That man's a bard through and through. Maybe multiclass. But this guy has atleast one level of bard.
@@frisk9394 First time I noticed they could whistle tunes was by accident, loved seeing the npcs standing around and one asking: where did u learn that?
@@rigureThis is a reference to the original DnD from which all the mechanics were taken, Volo is a bard who wrote the book "Volo's Guide to Monsters"
I like to whistle time to time. I guess I am a bard by heart.
one of my favourite things to do in game with my bard is to synch with other bards, and i love that Larian made it so the instruments compliment each other
It's so funny that in modern interpretations, most people would agree that Shadowheart would play the bass.
She's edgy like that. Love that for her.
I see her more as a harp player
@@raph3699 bass fits with the edgy shart, after *you know what* happens then she fits with the harp ahah
she does kinda have that Murderface energy about her.
"Fart on a Selunite" cover goes hard
I KNEW they can't resist Divinity:Original Son 2's theme
Yes Son i said what i said
@@Bandit-23thwhole nother story 😂
Wyll is just dancing off to the side.
With the Tav
Barlach, La'Zard, Asbartion, Shadowbard, and Gard.
Gard kills me XD
Bardlach
Gard is smooth
Let me fix it, i think there may have been a minor spelling mistake. Kard Bard Aard Sard Gard
👍
The most unrealistic part of this is Gale and Astarion actually taking turns between playing the background notes and playing the main melody
Of Divinity and Sin is such a nostalgia feeling
Because its from a previous Larian game!
guys as helpful as that was i think OP knows it's from DOS2, hence "nostalgia".
*sigh* I remember the first time I realized my bard could jump in and jam with random musicians you run into. Yet another reminder that even the little details like this are better than the best thing in Starfield. I think we are going to look back on this game in 20 years and still not believe how much love was put into it.
Maybe we'll still be playing it in 20 years, with upgraded graphics.
happened to me in the goblin camp, some little goblin lass whipped out her flute and played along. almost made me not want to genocide them.
almost.
A lot of love was put into Divinity: Original Sin 2. BG3 borrows heavily from the developer's previous games. BG3 is sort of like DOS2.. with a few things added.
Played the mass effect trilogy for the first time not long ago and was surprised how much detail went into that game, it reminded me a lot of bg3, but especially impressive because it's like 10 years older than bg3.
I absolutely LOVE the detail of how their body movement is reflective of the energy of the piece. Pizzicato and happy? Let's VIBE. Reflective and slightly broody? Let's slow it down a notch. SO COOL.
omg fr fr hadnt realized that! the amount of work and love into this game omg
Thats just how it is for all the tall character models
A realistic representation of performance proficiency!
You should have the option to play Weeping Dawn if you obtain Alfira's lute
Haven't you cried enough?
@@nikollorthat shit was beautiful 🥹
Yeah I still think they could do better with the instruments parts in general
@@JobCambronero Needs more cowbell.
Well that would involve either killing and/or pickpocketing her. Surely nothing would happen to her, right?
Right?
Unrelatedly, my Dark Urge playthrough is going well, I just reached the Grove :D
seeing lae'zel bard it up is bringing me a type of joy i thought i would NEVER gain from a video game LMFAO
she’s so perfect
Missed out on Wyll the whistler, and the urge maiming a corpse in the background
durge, no musical proficiency but wanting to be included: is the ribcage an instrument?
@@mh3053 well you can technically make intestines into the strings for a bowed instrument 🤷♀️
(thank you *not really* to some weird crime show for teaching me that disturbing fact)
@@elenalizabeth Was it Hannibal by any chance?
@@3mma_533 I think it was an episode from the original series of Criminal Minds 🤔 some crazy guy was killing people to turn their vocal cords into instruments or something.
@@mh3053if I can play mayonnaise, anything is possible.
i love how the flute and violin trade-off in bard dance, it definitely gives off improv show
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who can see Astarion with a violin. It seems that every fancy gothic or vampire character has one.
It was really clever of them to create a full orchestral version first and then use each track separately for whatever instrument is being used by the player. That way npcs can join in seamlessly and it will always sound good no matter what instrument they're playing.
Don't let the Dark Urge see this.
But... But... My dark urge is a bard 😮
@@gabrielcamargo5491truly the most evil Dark Urge playthrough...
@@syrenasketches6902 right?
he is the raw voice
The Dark Urge is quite skilled with the fiddle, the devil’s fiddle.
I hope we get a bard skill that involves singing like those harpies. That'd swell.
Omg yes!
bro divinity 2 players getting so much nostalgia from 2:47
Yes it's amazing they added it! The song was also played at my friend's wedding a couple of months ago and I love to hear it in this game as well ♥
The "Sing for me" and "The queen's high seas" are also from Divinty OS 2.
That's from Divinity: Original Sin 2, not Divinity 2, so slightly less nostalgic.
@@fredvdp5029 for you of course, we all experience things at different times
Yup moments like these are why musical proficiency is a must
The canon ending
I always find the flute the nicest on the solo bard.. it tends to have the full melodies :)
Whenever I have nothing left to do on a turn, I bust the flute out and just start playing... and it sounds awful _because I am a Necromancer not a Bard_

I made a bard modeled after Pedro Eustache, Flute Guy from the game awards.
Divinity and sin hits so hard
6:20 Someone said "Keepin' it together Bree?" in my head.
6:17 Sing For Me was actually the single from the OST of Divinity 2, sung by Mizora's voice actor :D
I played as Lohse my first ever playthrough... the song hits different.
Lohse my beloved
*Divinity: Original Sin 2, not Divinity 2, different games
me and the boys starting a song during every turn in combat because its a free action
yup, still justifies my want for a 5 party group..
I like listening to medieval music. It's lively, enchanting, and relaxing.
I wish you could find more tunes as the game goes on. Would have made a good achievement.
Shadowheart's shredding that lute!
Karlach being the percussionist makes so much sense.
I think Astarion definitely plays violin, or piano.
Gale absolutely plays the flute because iykyk lol.
Pre-fixed engine Karlach sings or whistler since she would just burn whatever instrument she'd be pkaying. Post engine-fix Karlach would play the lute I think. A hearty instrument for a hearty gal!
Shart is a lyre.
And Bae'zel the drum.
Wyll dances for evwryone whole they play, and Tav does whatever.
Durge is off eating roasted dwarf thighs or something
I love that they have different movements, depending on the Song.. very nice detail as well.. that astarion and gale just are fitting for their instruments. XD
Whenever I hear "Bard dance" all I can think of is "Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!"
the fact that every instrument sounds good alone but when combined it sounds just... awesome. really great work
this was the perfect theme for me to peel pomegranates to thank you
I was so happy with all the DoS2 OSTs. Can't get enough of them!
Lae'Zel in the background strumming along cracks me the hell up 🤣 She's a prickly one but I actually do like/respect her.
“I was pressured into doing this group project but I’m going to do it as perfectly as I do everything else. Failure is not an option”
It appears I am overdue a playthrough of Divinity Original Sin 2.
Love all the refences to Divinity
I dislike most of them. Feels like recycled content. I did like the paintings but that's it.
hehe compared to his previous work I am a little disapointed. This is very safe/reserved as music@@Whisper0ak
I would've loved it if each of these was on the soundtrack. The Power especially.
Easy, get the ost for Divinity Original Sin 2, they're there
THIS IS SO FREAKING GOOD!!!! Id been SO waiting for somebody to play all these songs with every part together, you did an AWESOME job!!!!
I thought i was going nuts hearing the DOS 2 theme everywhere
The DoS theme just makes my heart melt!
This game has the best most natural social cues that I have ever seen in games. Even the voice actors nailed their performances. Still love the game despite the save bug
This developer's previous games have some good voice acting too. I played DOS1 recently and was shocked how good the voice acting was. An old elf there sent a chill up my spine.
The Power is my favourite... sometimes i have my violinist bard-cleric play it in a quiet spot, just so i can sit back and draw while he performs it :')
gods, i love this game...
THAT ANIMATION
The instrumental choice 4 each character seems fiting to me. Ty 4 that detail.👍
Thank you for sharing this! Absolutely love that all the instruments sound beautiful on their own, as well as all of them together or in different combinations :)
of divinity and sin is basically divinity of sin's main music of it premise which is pretty awesome that larian studios still remembers it.
The flowers! Lupines! I love those!
Picture this: Wyll, Volo, Halsin, and Tav vibing off screen.🎉
Queen of the high seas is my absolute favourite
I love this. Thanks for making it. Go Bard Band! Encore!
My favorite is The Queen's High Seas, just a masterpiece!
It's really cool how all the pitched instruments can play the melody if solo or fit in background or counter melody roles with other instruments. As a musician irl it's like a whole little side game discovering all the different parts and arrangements.
It is a little disappointing it seems like flute and violin will always trade off on the melody if you do a full band but that's a nitpick at this point. Thank you Larian!
This is my studying playlist now.
Love this gem of a game.
What a brilliant game!
watching them dance is so effing cute lol
Everytime i see a bard playing i take the violine and start playing aside of him. The npc do ofc react and you perform to together. Cant tell you how much i love that fact! Things you never see in Major Studio AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Game
3:09 Damn, this hits harder than it has to. Hundreds of hours in Divinity and another hundreds to come.
Exelente! Que obra senhores, que obra! Larian realmente acertou em cheio!
I thought once that some of the Songs felt rather empty, that they were kind of disjointed and had open spots that seemed to slow the pace of the song or just had only a basic rhythm to them that only kept a beat and nothing more. This was why, because they're a part of a greater whole. And that, is simply amazing game design.
I love it so much that i hate the fact that I've heard this before playing myself, so the feeling of realising is lost to me
This will be true for most video games. Videos like these ARE spoilers.
"sing for me" bring back sooo many memories of first time playing through DOS2
Ive been doing this with my durge run. We will be a mighty band of heroes
The DOS 2 ost performed by these guys hits the most 😢❤ The nostalgia.
You're actually missing *one* crucial instrument.
Volo's whistle. He only does it during the camp party after you save the tieflings from the goblin camp in Act 1.
Any musically proficient character can do it by unequipping their instrument.
They’re also missing parts too, doubling up on lyre and lute in different songs results in them playing different parts
This red outfit is made for Astarion. It's the first thing I do for him when I get to act 3, track down the killer and buy this fit along with white dress for shadowheart
I cannot imagine in any scenario Lae'zel playing an instrument! But a nice video.
DoS theme is great
i can't help but laugh at the conversation that must have taken to get Lae'zel on board with this XD
Quickest way to earn 100 gold in Baulders gate lol
...Time to roll an all-bard campaign I guess
höre das jetzt um besser einzuschlafen I LOVE IT :D
If you don't have an instrument equipped, you whistle. Does the whistling also sync up with all other instruments?
yes
Yes and if you perform near Volo at camp then he will join along with you by whistling
Love all the songs and the game itself.
Wyll is right behind, in an ambush preparing a fireball because he wasn't invited.
the animation in this game is so beautiful
This is one of my most favourite things about this game xD
this is the content we need, but don't deserve
only thing that could make this better is (even semi) accurate hand animations for each instrument.
Maybe a version including whistling? That'd be cool
Ah ah ah ah ah ! Excellent !
you missed one more key person here, VOLO he can whistle ~
Any bard without an instrument can, turns out
I wish there was a voice option. It might've not been a song, just humming and singing notes
You can whistle at least
Divinity 2 was so damn good
Kagha on drums seems like a menace.
love it
You mean Karlach?
yea i drunk commenting this lol@@Kleineganz
Considering the build variety with bards now I wanna do a full bard band for a playthrough I feel like it would be super fun but also make the game super easy considering they could all run around with spirit guardians, counter spell, and any giant aoes they want
"The Power" is "Down by the River" in case you wanna try to sync playing it with the goblin camp music box or something.
its not complete, whistling is missing ;-) its possible to have complete band in the camp with alfira and vollo :-)
Know any Volo tunes?
