My Dad used to own a 1984 Ford LTD Crown Victoria when I was a kid. I found one for sale in Ohio last year and I've been working to try and get it up and running to give to him as I think he would really like the old girl. However, I'm no mechanic and it's been really tough to get a lot of the project done (there are not a lot of videos on how to work on them). I did buy the repair manual for it, but there are a lot of pieces to keep moving. One of the things I've been having trouble with is the engine and distributor. I really appreciate your channel because you work a lot with very similar models of these things and it is helping me to figure out how to repair the car. Hopefully I'll be done with the project soon and can give her to my Dad!

I owned a '78. I drove it everywhere. To start it, I used old speaker wire wedged in the space between the glove compartment and the dash and put them together to get it to whirl. To put it in gear, I had to grab the steering column and twist it since the cable for the floor shifter was broken. Good times.
Just did the ole sparkalators and lightning hoses on my’93 Ranger yesterday... 4 cylinders, 8 plugs and wires... Thank you Ford engineers. After a few cuts and curse words and not being able to see because of the sun in my eyes, a guy got her done. Love your videos, Derek!! Your channel is seriously my favorite on UA-cam and I thank you for doing what you do, man. Hope you and yours are doing well.
What a nice thing to do. I think someone will have a lot of fun with the car and as you said, they can use it as a daily driver, or you gave them a good start on a restoration if they would like. I have a tip on detailing the car. For the interior, I get a bucket of warm water and some soap (Simple Green, Purple Power or anything I have sitting around). I use a rag and wipe down everything in the interior. If there's something that needs extra attention, I work that area a little more. I rinse it with a rag and water, then let it dry. Carpet and seats get cleaned (I use some foaming carpet/interior cleaner and use the scrubber on tough spots, then vacuum). I spray vinyl protectant on the dash, door panels, console and any vinyl parts. Last is a final window cleaning - Sprayway is awesome!. For the exterior, I hit the car with a clay bar and clay lube (not anything with wax). If it needs some deep cleaning, I use Superior's Rage mixed 4:1 - definitely use gloves! I also use Rage for the wheels - it's great stuff. Rinse and dry, then I use a DA polisher with Meguiars M100 (works better than M105), don't use too much product and run 5-6 passes per section (slow passes with little pressure), then wipe with a microfiber. After the paint is done, I use Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions - bottle with the green stripe - I use this as a one step wax. A couple spritz per panel, wipe with a wax applicator and move to the next panel. When I'm done, I grab a new microfiber and wipe the excess off. Last is the rubber/plastic on the exterior. I use a clear gel protectant - just wipe it on, let it soak in and buff off the excess. Works great on tires too!
24:17 "What's he got going over here now? Oh, he's fertilizing." Lololol. That sounds exactly like the voice in my head as I drive around looking at stuff.

I love it but a guy needs to put a rear spoiler on the ol girl. Entertaining video for someone painting there 78 Z28 at the moment. This hit the spot.
That nose cone is nice and speckled. She did a lot of lines of high octane back in the day if ya know what I mean.
Agreed this body style is so naked without the spoiler.
I always loved those rally wheels. I'm a big fan of steel wheels.
The lettered tyres are inspired.
Totally agree, blue steel wheels and lettered tires (sp?) sell the car.
Steel is way better hit a pot hole with aluminum boom its bent never rides right again

"What ever happened to Clint Black?" - Mr. Vice Grip, asking the real questions.
He got married and his wife ruined his music, lol.
TimberMoto lol
He is an ostomy kick kick. Doesn't let anything bother him
Ahhh Derek.. your stuff is just fantastic. Makes a feller laugh more than any other thing to watch. Don’t ever change!
When I was in high school I had a 79 with that same color interior. I bought it cheap with no motor or trans and the after effects of an engine fire. I put a olds 403 and a turbo 400 in it that I had and had a blast with it till I went in the military. Good times.
My dad is a tv repair man, he's got this ultimate set of tools, i can fix it

@@SuperFrankieOSX Make up your mind.?... "First he'll shit then kill us ! ".
Clint Black is fine...
"just killing time" like me, just working on my junk collection, a guy has to stay busy!

With the Grand Tour only doing 1 special a year - this is now my go-to for car based entertainment.
Love this channel!
Turned out a lot better.
Thanks for the suggestion, vice grip and hammer guy.
"ice cube pump" :)
Looks like Ray Charles sprayed that with his feet😂
"The whole car looks worse than Mrs Doubtfire's makeup!" HAHAHAHA
Well, a guy used to work in a body shop, and I did about 82.7% of the wet sanding and bufferlating. I think your paint restoration looks absolutely FACK-TREE!
OMG I want that car. She is so clean and a great base to build on, perfect project car. I can't get over how clean she is. It would look great next to my 2010 SS and I already have a spare LS3 in the living room...
I would definitely love to have this car my dad bought me a 78 z28 when i was younger and would love another one to fix up with my dad
she's on ebay!
I had a 78 also. 350, 4 on the floor, w/factory dual flip up sun roof. I sold it when I got sole legal of my two kids when they were babies. I do wish I still had it. :(
Will check it out derek thanks for the reply
I don't know the price u paid for her but camaros around here that are just basically shells people wants crazy amounts for
I, a grown ass man, straight PISSED myself when it shot up from 9 to 105
haha!!
yeah thats right about the time I just totally lost it myself, that was just too funny!
LOL!!! shot up was the best line in this episode
I know it didn't come with it, but that car is CRYING for a spoiler.
Actually, a spoiler was an option, and the ones designed by chevy looked very good.
Wish you had this thing still. I'm close to your new shop and I would have bought this.
Love these Camaros and Firebirds of this era. Had my eye on a 77, but the guy was harder to deal with than a mule on a hot day. Great vids! Please keep them coming and be safe.
