- I bought a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro sight unseen. Once again it's way up north by the Canadian border. It's been sitting in a barn for 21 years and appears to be in decent overall condition thanks to sitting in a relatively dry environment. I do eventually get it started after some fixin on it. And of course, I have to take it on a test drive.

My grandad used to work on old Lincolns and Oldsmobiles and Buicks out in his carport. I was little, so watching him study and scrape on spark plugs and spray random chemicals down the carburetor was wizardry to me. Thanks to Derek, I can now tap into the Old Ways. I love your channel brother. My only complaint is this: in 2014 I lost a really good friend to a freak accident. He was in the hurry to change his oil on his mustang and just used a floor jack, like the one you used. It failed on him while he was under the car and he basically died a pretty slow death as the car crushed the life out of him. His son found him about 15 minutes too late. Be safe bro. It's not worth it. Jack stands save lives.
As hilarious as a Guy is, I'm honestly learning so much from him about basic car mechanics. This dude needs his own PBS car repair show!

I cant believe it! i owned that car back in the eighties! THAT CAR. To funny, was a nice ride back in the day. the paint is not original, it was repainted after an accident i got into. im a car guy and you just know your previous cars, and geographically the location makes completes sense. hope you put back in shape, the stories i have with her are

Found the channel after cleetus and now hooked in these times decent honest to goodness people are what we all need.
check the vacuum to the transmission. Any time they won't come out of first gear, always check vacuum.
And the cheap little accumulator it’s hooked to.
and if its not that, its the governor in the transmission, easy fix. just a little round cover on the side, pop it out pull the governor and see if the shaft moves when you push the weights. if not, replace springs.
Dave's RV Channel yea i thought that too. But after a while they made that electronic too.
that and the modgulator valve, adjust the timing a little, i personally wanna see if he can get the AC to actually work XD very hard to find a camaro with working ac like that
another thing, with the gas in the back under the trunk, i found that to be a luxury at the gas pumps getting the choice to either side of the pump is pretty convenient
One of the things that I absolutely love about your channel is the lack of cussin'. Mind you I'm no prude, I've been known to let out a sting of profanity that is still hanging over lake Erie, but I really appreciate your frustration coping. However, when you took the maro for its first test drive and veered off into the bushes, and let out and 'oh shit', I knew two things. One, that the situation was instantly real, and two, that I was laughing my ass off at the first time I had ever heard any kind of swear word out of your mouth. Keep on keepin' on! You sir, are the best auto mechanic channel on UA-cam.

You should've poured some of that there sea foam in the transmission. You don't even have to pour it in. That stuff is so good that you can just pop the hood and chuck the bottle somewhere in the vicinity of the dipstick, and that thing will shift like a new one. Lol

I'm not a paper salesman, but a typical sheet of paper is 8.5"x11". This is the absolute best channel on UA-cam. I'm always asking people if they watch it, and if not, I tell them they should. Lol
Derek, I live in upstate Ny by the lake. Where I live, inspections are just check engine light inspections. As long as your light is off and you have no codes, your good. Never had a mechanic look at anything.

When I was 16, I destroyed 3 transmissions in just under 2 years. What I learned though, was that in the GM automatic transmissions, reverse goes first. It takes twice as much pressure as the forward gears. So, if the transmission is starting to go out, you'll lose reverse first.
So... when taking an older car for a test drive, put it in reverse and punch it. No problems in reverse, and she's fine.
What if I have reverse and it works as it should, but when in drive you have to bring the revs up between 1200-1800 before it begins move? This is what's happening in my 1980 Firebird formula 4.9 with th350

If you have reverse, but 1st is slipping, the clutches are bad.

My Dad said he had a '77 Z28 brand new. 350cu 4spd. Didn't know how to drive a stick until part way home. Said she would burn rubber in all 4 gears. Went like hell. He sold it to buy land. White with the other detail stuff on the hood. Wish I could hammer through the gears on one!
Had that same car when I was 18. Put in a 400 SB and through some top end performance parts and it was a screamer.

I sure do miss my 79 z28 clone, but it had a 468cid with th400... And my 72 SS, a real one, 350cid & m21 4 speed...not numbers matching... Unfortunately, I was a heroine addict and EVERYTHING was sold and planned for dope...! Now I'm 64+ months sober and life is great...!!! I still really miss those camaro's though...! DON'T DO DRUGS...!!! Anyway, thanks again and keep up your awesomeness...!

That 305 is bullet proof, but it came stock with a 2 barrel carb and will run way better with it, only way that quadrajet wont bog is if its had headwork done.
I used that their same stuff on my rusted out 1968 Camaro it made the rust come back to full metal I’d shitttt you not son. If it was for this VGG I wouldn’t have even bought GUNK or that their liquid mechanic. Such an educational instructor.
I had a 1978 Camaro Type LT back in the late 90s. It had the 350 and a 3-speed automatic. I wish I never got rid of that car.

Hi Deric. Loving your show again. So here in the UK we have a very strict Ministry of transport test. You cannot drive your vehicle at all without this test. It will stop you having an application for our annual vehicle tax. So you need to pass the test and its tests everything! Including emissions. In a nutshell everything you’ve driven would not pass the test.
Mike Taxi one days old. Gets the test. But if you buy a brand-new car test once it hits three years of age. And then on for every year that lives!

Well, Derek, since I have subscribed, I have learned quite a bit. I admire your talent. I love the adventures you undertake. Your understated sense of humor and constant self-deprecation is classic, and very, VERY, funny. You are great. I cannot do anything you do. I can, however, throw a rock into Cananada (funny). Keep it up. The educational value IS there, the entertainment value is also. Love it.
