I'm brand new to Cricut and just trying to learn the basics. Such an informative tutorial! I think I will be taking my stylist back to get the scoring wheel. Right now i'm just scoring paper but in the future I might want to score boxes.
Thank you so much ! This tutorial was very helpful learning about the scoring tools . I just got a Cricut for Christmas and I am still trying to understand what I can create. Again , keep on doing what you are doing because Iam sureI am not the only one !
OMG, Angie. I have been watching many videos and your the only one that explains HOW to use the stylus with the maker so I don’t have to waste time and switch tools!!! Thank you so much!
I purchased (an original) Maker earlier this year with all the adaptive tools. My tests found (1) the current version of Design Space _does_ differentiate between the single and double scoring wheels and requires you to put in the correct wheel (or edit the tools), and (2) I got a lot more pressure with the scoring stylus than the scoring or double scoring wheels, even when I increased the amount of pressure in the settings for the material I was scoring. One trick I found for heavier materials with the scoring stylus (on my Explore Air) is to run several passes with the scoring stylus. (I haven't tried this yet with the scoring wheels on my Maker.) The way to do this is to duplicate the score line multiple times, line them all up, and attach them (both to each other and to the shape of the material you're trying to score).
Thank you Angie, I”m very appreciative of all the wonderful filming that you do for the Cricut Maker Product. You’ve saved me a lot of time...Thank you...
WOW!!! I usually don’t comment on tutorials, but I am SO VERY IMPRESSED right now, I just have to. Your camera angles, your editing, your explanations, and BEST NON=PROFESSIONAL speaking skills are over the top awesome. Besides REALLY knowing your cricut accessories, you can also explain them and how they work, with almost NO UM’S!!! Thank you so much for this very informative video on scoring and how it may cause cracks in the fold. I work with 350 gsm chipboard paper (0.5mm thick) and I can't seem to understand why my folds are cracking constantly and it's because I've been using a single score wheel when I should have used the double scoring wheel.
Thank you so much, just got my Cricut and was so upset that I only bought the scoring stylus. You saved my project by explaining how to change the tool setting! Awesome.
Cool vídeo. Thanks so much for being so detailed. I've recently bought a Cricut and i'm trying to learn which accessories I need and which not, so this videos are a great help.
Scoring/folding also makes a difference based on the grain of the paper. Always fold with the grain of your paper. Printing/cutting 101 when I was in undergrad, it will make things a lot easier for you.
Hi, Angie. My stylus fits without opening the clamp, but to remove it, i do open the clamp. A lot of people are stating the the stylus is tearing up their cardstock and wonder if they are pushing it too far. Is that incorrect? For the pens, I do open the clamp to insert and remove. Thanks in advance! Thank you for the video as always.
Love this video. Thank you for the thorough explanation. I've been looking for a video to explain it and haven't found one that explained it as clearly as yours. So thank you again.🤩🤩🤩
Angie, Thanks for the wonderful tutorial. Your hard work really helped me understand the difference between the scoring stylus and wheel. I believe it helped me make the right decision in getting the Cricut Maker and scoring wheel for most of my paper craft. Meanwhile, I have started to make cards and would love to try foiling. Is it possible to use the scoring wheel instead of the stylus to create foil embossing/debossing using pressure sensitive foil?
Very thorough explanation, I really liked how you tried so many different materials - have you done a video on adding score lines to your project in Design Space?
Thanks for the video. My scoring wheels are cutting the dashed lines instead of scoring them. I have been searching for a solution. Any idea why this is happening? I have the layer set to “score,” and it recognizes the wheel. Thanks!
I'm just starting out, and am planning to make some simple wedding invitations. The only scoring I need is for folds in a regular card stock (not glitter or foil). Would the stylus be ok for now? I would eventually like to purchase a wheel later, but don't want to spend too much as I am just starting out and learning to use my machine.
Exactly the info we were looking for - thank you so much for being such a blessing ! Please confirm - for scoring 100 lb card stock for flip-it cards - use the stylus pen OR the scoring wheel - 01. Correct ? 🧐
Does the scoring wheel wear out? Which lasts longer and doesn't need replacing, the stylus or the wheel? If you use the wheel you need a second pass to cut? If you use the stylus you can cut and fold in one pass?
Neither one will wear out. If you use the stylus it will cut and fold without you having to do anything. With the wheel, the machine stops and asks you to change to the wheel.
@@AngieHolden One more question, does the engraving tip wear out? I am going to buy some tips for my still unused Cricut, and wanted to know so I can buy 2 tips right away because I found some half off. If it doesn't wear out quickly ill just buy one for now. Thank you for your help!

First, make sure the dashed line is a score in Design Space as a line type and not a cut. Second, hold the pen holder when you put it in to make sure it doesn't fall down when you add the stylus. That is probably what happened.
Yes you definitely can! The Maker will assume you have the wheel so that is what it will ask for once you click Make It. Just click the edit tools button and change the the stylus and you are good to go!

hi, love your video, however can I use a scoring wheel instead of scoring stylus. I can't figure out how to get my machine to recognize the wheel and not stylus. I was thinking the cartridge image only supports stylus. It's an older cartridge.
That probably would not work as you would not be able to get them exact. I would make the ones where you have to fold away from the score line hidden as much as possible on your project.
That thing came with my maker is NOT A scoring wheel they lied! It’s not it’s not now I have to spend more money on a housing and the wheel because what I’m trying to use which came with the maker isn’t really a scoring wheel 😡SOB!
What came with your Maker is a rotary blade that cuts fabric. They didn't lie at all as that is what is advertised. You can see more about what the rotary blade can do here: ua-cam.com/video/mVQezBzGcb0/v-deo.html

Be sure to hold the pen holder with one hand and push it in with the other to make sure it is seated well. Maybe it is not down enough?
What happens if it says it's not detected??? Because that's what's happening with mine.
First make sure you have score lines in whatever you are making. Second make sure the scoring wheel is chosen not a blade. Then make sure you have the right end indicated for your material (either single or double.).
SO HELPFUL THnk u
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant!
Thank you for the video.
Thank you so much for this informative video. I purchased the Maker last month and hungry for any pertinent information I can get! You were very thorough and easy to follow. 💗 Bev [10/02/2019)
hi, love your video, however can I use a scoring wheel instead of scoring stylus. I can't figure out how to get my machine to recognize the wheel and not stylus. I was thinking the cartridge image only supports stylus. It's an older cartridge.
Click edit tools and see if there are options there.
why do you make about the Cricut Maker Knife Blade ...... change a deep one is my problem ...as I more use 2 mm MDF wood ....
I have a video about the knife blade here that might help: ua-cam.com/video/QMEvMXPCNrI/v-deo.html&lc=Ugy67F38pcv6YRC7Q0N4AaABAg
So if you’re folding in two directions like your paper shows, you have to score twice? One face down for one line and o]one face up for the other?
That probably would not work as you would not be able to get them exact. I would make the ones where you have to fold away from the score line hidden as much as possible on your project.
Yes
My blade keeps coming off
I would say something is wrong with it and to contact Cricut.
Video is too long for what it is, and then there’s the ads...
The ads are not because of Angie.
So in the maker you have to swap the wheel with the blade to do both score and cut? it doesnt do it on go like it would with the explore stylus?
That is correct Rebbeca!
Thank you so much, this was so helpful!
Thanks!
