  • Cricut has two options to score all your projects: the scoring wheel, and the scoring stylus.
    I often think to myself in a project - which scoring tool should I use? Should I use the scoring wheel? or should I use the scoring stylus?
    Well, it all depends on what your project requires, and what machine you have. I cover each of these topics in this video.

    haha loved the moment sam looked straight into the camera and the next moment he is almost sleeping. thanks for the info! For me the stylus is the lazy option but I like the scoring wheel more because of the crisp lines.

    Very helpful Kelly. I must admit I have been quite frustrated with the scoring functions of both my stylus and wheels with neither giving me the deep scoring I can achieve on my scoreboard. I wish Cricut would allow the ability to increase the pressure for scoring as you suggest. I actually experimented with using my foiling tips for scoring as they move over the card took slower than the stylus and find they work quite well and don’t tear the material like the stylus does. I’ll give the double scoring wheel another go however after seeing your tips. Love seeing your gorgeous cat Sam in the video, he’s a very handsome boy!! Thank you for sharing as always.❤😘

      @@KellyRossouw I have only just started to use the foiling tip for scoring so I’ll be interested to see your results. It also works really well on the shiny side of mirror card to achieve a debossed design. ❤️

    I must admit... the scoring pen caused some rips on my cardstock. Thus, the scoring wheel is now my preference.

    That just answered my question perfectly. I have not always been happy with the pressure of the stylus. So, I'm wondering if it's wiser to us the cut score lines. I have a lot of Christmas boxes to make and I don't want to be fussing about how well the scoring stylus is actually scoring. Thanks, Kelly. ❤

      You are so welcome! I often also use the 12x24 mat when I need to make a lot of something because then I can cut 2 pages at a time, so you may want to do that especially if you are using the scoring wheel! :)

      That’s a brilliant idea. I have 4 of the 12 x 24 mats, so I could certainly make the project go much more quickly using those! ❤️

    I tried both and ended up liking the perforation wheel. I just use it in place of the scoring wheel.

    Thanks for the comparison. I did end up getting the stylus due to price but I’ve just decided to give any lines I do a double triple pass specially on card stock and that seem to work fine for me. I’m glad to watch this video tho as I’ve been thinking about maybe investing on a scoring wheel.

      This is what I did before getting my Maker. That said, I often find the scoring wheel and double scoring wheel don't provide enough pressure to properly score my heavier papers. I haven't used my Cricuts in a few months (multiple computers taking up the spaces in which they generally sit), so I don't remember if multiple passes with the wheels worked or not.

    I would definitely suggest either this or the cricut score tool. I bought an off brand score tool and it doesn’t work! It barely leaves a score line and it’s too hard to see

    Sorry to keep bothering you, Kelly, but I have another question about the scoring wheel. 😉 I did some test pieces with the wheel today and I was very pleased with the results. However, the cardstock I will be using for one of my projects is about 270 gsm. If I choose heavy cardstock in the materials list, do you think the scoring wheel would do a satisfactory job on that?

    • @KellyRossouw
      @KellyRossouw  Місяць тому

      No you are never bothering me dont stress! The double scoring wheel is better suited for the thicker cardstock. You will need to score it in reverse!

    • @diannebarton3293
      @diannebarton3293 Місяць тому

      Thanks, Kelly. I ran a test on my cardstock and the double wheel worked beautifully. On the down side, after I ran my test and went back to start the project, my Maker wouldn''t recognize any rotary tool in the B clamp. After support tried to resolve this and couldn't I went online and discovered several videos from people who had had the same problem. All of these videos were ones that had been sent to Cricut, so it appear that this is a well known problem with the Maker family. So, I guess I'm going to have to look for a new machine! 🙄. On the upside, Cricut did give me a promo code toward purchasing a new machine, so that' some help. 🙂

    • @KellyRossouw

      You are welcome! You cant score the back of the card with print then cut, but you can score the front and fold it forward and then back again. If you arent using super thick card it wont be too much of a problem!
