Hi, my name is Val, i just got a cricut maker, like 2 days ago. Lol. I love your videos. I have tons of questions and you are so good in explaining them ❤ you have all the experimente and answers about which tool is better with what. Thank you so much... i m loving it.
Wonderful!
Angie has the Jacquard Fabric store online most of their fabric is printable paper-backed fabrics. I use it in my work when printing photos on silk for example
I know this video is older but thank you for sharing I've had my cricut maker for a while now and never cut fabric with it I didn't know which tool to use until I found this
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much! I would love to see you cut fleece, specifically anti-pill fleece! I was thinking it might be too lint heavy for the mat, but would love to see it in action.
You can cut it but yes it may ruin your mat. I like to place strong grip transfer tape on my mat sticky side up for fabrics like these.
This video was extremely helpful for me. Thanks so much for making it!
Thank you so much for always explaining averything so beautifully.😀
Thanks Angie for this tutorial it's very helpful.
Thank you very much love your video as I just got my maker your video helped me understand the rotary blade
Great to hear!
Hello thank you for this helpful video. Will the rotary blade cut on 2mm neoprene. If so what is the settings that i should use.
The 2 mm may be too thick to fit under the bar of the machine but you can try. I would use the thickest setting possible. Probably the denim.
Outatanding video! Thank you for cutting all those materials!
Glad you like them!
Thank you
brand new machine (with original rotary blade), thought I had to buy a rotary blade to cut vinyl so bought what I thought was the necessary blade but was in fact the replacement blade kit, followed the directions in kit THEN saw a video saying the kit was actually a "replacement kit" - ended up ruining the brand new blade that came with maker. Moral of story is find helpful videos like this.
So sorry! I hope your machine is working well now!
I was kind of amazed at how many fabrics you can cut on the Maker! I am wondering how well felt cuts on the Maker. I have tried it on my Joy before I got my Maker and have always had problems. The type I have now has no kind of backing on it.
I love cutting felt with the rotary blade on the Maker!
May i ask what setting you used for that Velvet im needing to cut some to line a Jewelry box that i designed for my Xtool M1. TIA
I would use a medium fabric setting most likely - depends on the thickness of the material you use!
Love your channel. So Informative. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Is it possible to cut intricate designs with a rotary blade? I know the knife blade for instance can also cut fabrics so I am trying to figure out which blade would achieve more detailed design cuts
They do not recommend doing intricate cuts with it.
For those with issues of the rotary blade cutting your mat, this is a known glitch that Cricut refuses to address. If the default rotary pressure is too high so you change it to anything else, the pressure range changes to that of the fine point blade.
The fine point blade pressure range is 0-350 but the rotary blade is 0-4000, with the default at 1883. Changing this by just 1, down to 1882, causes design space to glitch and set the new "acceptable" rotary blade range up to 350, making your new setting "out of range". So when you go to cut now, it just doesn't cut at all. It does this for any material that uses the rotary blade.
I've contacted Cricut several times in late 2021 and they've admitted they know this problem exists but customer service refused to commit to saying it's being worked on and should be fixed soon. So until then, we just need to accept that our mats will be damaged when using the rotary blade. If more people call customer service to complain, maybe that will expedite getting this issue fixed.
Do you know if this has been fixed/solved yet?
I have been practicing on a Silhouette Cameo but considering buying a Maker 3 bundle (that's on a rebate).
Great Video. Very clear understanding of fabrics. I didn't see felt mentioned. I am currently using my maker to cut felt and it's a mess. I think it is probably similar to your description of the faux fur. Also, my rotary blade is cutting my matt. I am thinking that is not good.
I have cut a ton of felt. You can put transfer tape on your mat then put the felt on it. That will save it from the fuzzies. Cutting into the mat means your turns are too tight. You can alter the design or just let it cut into the mat. I actually have many mats that are scarred and I still use them.
I there anyway to increase the number of passes on the settings page for the rotary blade? I've tried custom settings, but it seems I can't program more that 1 pass with the rotary blade,. So I tried to set up a new type of custom material the Rotary Tool, (or the Knife Blade) aren't an option.
I realize I can keep hitting the triangle ({or C) button after each individual run, but if your design that has both a score AND a rotary cut - you have to swap the %#$*%^ blades each time you repeat the run. It's a pain in the neck!
You cannot alter the passes with this one.
Thanks for all the tips
Hello. Can I use this rotary cutter in my new cricut maker 3 machine please.
Yes.
Yes I did all of that. It is moving but scores it a bit but not cutting. When I am about to cut it says on machine detecting tool and it runs a bit then starts. It's funny it cut one thing then stopped. Even though it is new could the blade be damaged. Seems to cut when I just take the tool and push on paper. It wont cut paper in the machine either. Just with rotary tool. Thankyou.
You could have damaged the blade. Usually it just gets nicked and skips during the cut, however. I would definitely call Cricut and let them trouble shoot before you spend any money on getting a blade.
Hi Angie, what setting do you use to cut heavy weight crepe paper on Cricut Maker? I changed setting to more pressure on the crepe paper material, but still not a clean cut. Do I need to change my rotary blade?
Hmmmm....I haven't cut any that is heavy weight. Did you try like the cotton fabric setting?
Hi! Great information thankyou! Can I back it with heat n bond then cut on the maker?
Yes you can! I still use the rotary blade for bonded materials. Click edit tools when cutting and pick the rotary instead of the fine point.
Angie, love your videos and sharing style. QUESTION: (1) How intricate can the ROTARY cut? (2) Is it is good with small holes, e.g 2.5mm?. (On your KNIFE blade video you mentioned KNIFE only does 3/4" minimum.(3) Is there a minimum curve for the ROTARY. TIA
Yes There is a minimum. No smaller than 3/4" in size and that the space between cut paths be at least 3/4" or more when cutting with the rotary blade.
@@AngieHolden THANKS Angie, just so I'm clear the minimum space for both the Knife Blade and the Rotary is 3/4" TIA
Correct. That being said I break that rule all of the time!
My Maker came with a pink mat and pink rotary cutter. Do I need the rotary cutter you reviewed as well? A rotary cutter was recommended for chunky glitter vinyl for earrings.
I have never seen or heard of a pink rotary blade. Does it look like this one? And it is pink? Or does it look like the bonded fabric blade? Try this video: ua-cam.com/video/yRFuJJseDRY/v-deo.html
I need to make 2.5” strips because the color I need is no longer available as precuts! I’m assuming (but want to be certain) that I would have to cut single layer vs how I would typically cut two side at once.
I always do single layers. However, there are videos about doing multiple layers by other people.
Can you use the housing from the knife blade and a replacement for the rotary blade or does it have to have its own housing?
Rotary blade has its own housing. Knife blade has its own housing.
Do I use the rotary blade to cut thick velvet heat transfer vinyl? First time using!
Flocked HTV? I just use the fine point blade.
Hi! I just started using a Cricut maker and wondered if the Rotary blade will cut Cotton twill that has Polyester in it? Thanks so much for the info!
Definitely!
salut Angie, je me demandais si la lame rotative pouvait couper le matériau du tapis de souris pour personnaliser le tapis de souris. Si non, que proposez-vous pour faire cette coupe? Merci d'avance
Sorry that would be too thick.
New to maker, reason I received it for Christmas was wanting to cut fabric. thanks for this video. helped alot. Have you tried leather? If rotary blade didn't work, is that when you would use a deep cut blade? I don't think there is one for maker yet. (can't find one in stores around here. they have for other cricut machines. THANKS again for video.
Yes it will cut leather and I have tried it! You can see my experiments with it here: ua-cam.com/video/QMEvMXPCNrI/v-deo.html . So there is both a deep cut blade and a knife blade for the Maker. For real leather, I like the knife blade. Hope that helps!
Hi Angie, I just found your videos! love your projects! would like to know if the rotary blade or the knife will cut craft metal? thanks in advance!
I have had luck with cutting copper and have a video on that!
I jut found your channel you are amazing I love all your project...
thank you for such a great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi I’m trying to cut glitter foam on the maker. I cut it 3 times using more and the glitter foam setting.
This didn’t cut. What should I use and what knife or blade and setting . Thank you Janet
I like the knife blade for foam and I pick one of the foam settings.
Have you cut fleece with the maker?
Yep. With the rotary blade.
Hi thanks for your videos. They are very helpful. I have a question. What's the best way to clean this blade? Can it be sharpen? I used it on felt and im not sure how to clean it. Thank you
I just wipe the lint off. No they do not recommend sharpening. It will last a really long time though.
What about denim? Thanks!
Yes it will cut denim!
Do you remove the top plastic piece?
The plastic piece over the gold gear needs to remain in place for safety reasons.
Hi thank you. I tried to cut a photo of a dog out of fabric but it shredded the fabric and marked my pink map. Does the rotary blade do these shapes please?
You can't do sharp turns with the rotary blade or you get the results you had. Your turns need to be larger.
Hi! I just bought a cricut maker 3. I was just wondering if i could just use the rotary blade and cut fabric on the standard grip mat? Or do i really need to buy the fabric grip mat? Will the rotary blade ruin the standard mat? Thanks in advance:)
I mean you CAN use it on other mats. Fabric really does do best on the pink mat though.
Help. I cut bonded fabric for the first time. I used the fabric blade, fabric mat, and put bonded side up as directed by maker. A disaster. Brand new pink matt is a mess. Cut was rough. Flipped the fabric with bonded side down. Still a mess. Inner cut was shredded. What should I have done differently?
Try this video: ua-cam.com/video/7_xgMW_FIMQ/v-deo.html
I was wondering if the rotary blade does better on glitter foam (without adhesive on the back) than the deep cut blade? I've been having issues with having clean cuts!
For foam, I like the knife blade actually. If you don't have it, I would definitely try the rotary.
I can’t seem to find the rotary blade housing. All I can find are the replacement kits. Can you help?
You will need to contact Cricut if you need a new housing. The housings are specific to your machine.
I make hair bows. Will it cut thick glitter canvas? I tried it and it won't cut thru all the way. Wondering maybe if I should use the knife?
I have not cut glitter canvas. Before the mat exits the machine but when it is done cutting, you can hit the "C" button again and it will make another cut. Try that once. Check to see if the material is cut through before removing and try again if it isn't. Also use something like the denim setting so you are getting maximum pressure.
I googled rotary blade for maker three and came up with many different choices. I am assuming I want a blade with the specially housing. However they apparently come in different sizes. This was very confusing, Also the link below appears to be a blade replacement kit without a housing, Could you please "unconfuse" me? I would like to purchase one that I can use for Mulberry paper.
Additional;y I just noticed a knife edge blade on your link. What is that used for? Thanks for your help!
Rotary blade is only one size. There is a scoring wheel that is a single/double. If you don't have a housing, you will need to buy the housing and the blade. Try this video on blades: ua-cam.com/video/yRFuJJseDRY/v-deo.html
I just bought the explore 3 … can it cut flannel material ? Or should I return and buy the maker 3 ?
Maker would be better for that.
Just found your channel yeah! I just got the cricut maker. I was trying to cut out a felt heart. Didnt work with fine point so I clicked on heavy cotton and used rotary blade. I got to cut 1 heart and now the rotatur blade is not cutting anything. I went to troubleshoot page and did everything and still wont cut. I was on hold with cricut and gave up. Any idea why this is happenning, thanks
First of all when you click felt, you can click edit tools and pick the rotary blade. Now, as far as not cutting, it is not moving or it doesn't cut as it moves along your fabric? Be sure to turn off your machine, unplug, and then plug back in. You will also want to make sure you have the latest version of Design Space installed.
Thank you very much for the very informative video! I have a question if the maker can cut clear view vinyl , heavy weight, like the one for the table covers, shower curtains, bag making. And if it does, what kind of blade would you recomend. Thank you!
It definitely should. I would try the rotary blade first and maybe the heavy fabric setting.
@@AngieHolden Thank you very much!
Question! Did you cut the faux fur with the fur side up or down?
I have tried both.
Great tutorial does this blade work on the cricut air explore 2
No it does not.
I have a question about the scoring cap. I bought the maker bundle and it came with the scoring blade, the housing, and the cap. However, no matter how I tried, I can’t get the cap on the blade and housing. Do you know why?
The rotary blade has a cap but I don't think the scoring wheel has one. Perhaps you are trying to put the rotary cap on the scoring wheel?
Will this cut felted wool for wool applique?
I have cut it before yes. It takes some trial and error to get your settings right but it does a good job.
Can you let us know what approximate settings you used for Felted wool and velvet?
Will it cut felted wool fabric
I have cut that before!
Does it cut cowhide sheets ? Or tooled leather in circuit maker
I cut tooling leather in this video: ua-cam.com/video/QMEvMXPCNrI/v-deo.html
Does the rotary blade& housing have a 3 on the bottom?
Not that I know of but maybe they added it later. The rotary blade I have is from my original Maker which is before there were any other tools.
hi, great video, question by chance would you know if cricut machine can cut cork material to cut a coaster out
Yes! I actually like the rotary blade for cutting cork.
@@AngieHolden thanks
Thank you for the information. Have your tried to cut cork? The type for sewing in bags with a backing. Thx!!!
Yes I have! Use the rotary blade and it works great!
@@AngieHolden Thank you!!
Can you use the pink fabric cutter on my cricut maker 3? Thanks so much for this great video.
You can. It is only for bonded fabric though.
@@AngieHolden Thanks so much! I have been watching you because I am brand new at using cricut, my machine will arrive shortly so I am soaking up all the info I can. You are so helpful.
Hi! I am loving your video! I was wondering if I could cut faux leather with the rotary blade on my maker?
I have an entire video on how I cut faux leather here: ua-cam.com/video/cxcIKatgF68/v-deo.html
Do you have a video for cutting Balsa wood? what blade do you need?
I am working on a video just with wood but I do have it as part of my knife blade video here: ua-cam.com/video/QMEvMXPCNrI/v-deo.html
Hi what was that tool called that you used to rolled down the fabric
A brayer.
Do you have to keep the plastic piece on the gear of the blade? Will it still work if I take that off?
You take that off before cutting.
Can I cut denim on air 2
I don't think it will have enough force.
What do I stick in the cameo silhouette 4 to cut with and on how to work it
This only works with the Cricut. Not sure about the blades for the Cameo Silhouette 4.
This video was really useful as I've just been given the Maker as a present and trying to decide which additional accessories to buy. Will the rotary blade cut leather?
Yes you can use it for leather! The knife blade is a better option for really thick leather pieces though.
Thank you, Angie that is really useful to know. There are so many things I want to do with this machine, it's hard to know where to start 🤔
Have you used the rotary blade to cut neoprene? The kind of fabric for beer cozies.
I have not. I think it would cut it but I have not experience. I would try the denim setting.
my rotary blade is not seen by my machine. I did a calibration what am I doing wrong
Do you have the rotary blade or the scoring wheel? They look similar and often times people mix them up.
Is the rotary blade what I should use to cut ziplock bags into strips?
I have never cut a ziplock bag with my Maker so I am not sure.
Can I cut craft foam with the rotary blade?
I just cut it with the deep point blade.
Do you any info on cutting glitter foam. No matter what I did , I couldn't it to cut perfect. It was either too deep and wrecked the sheet or too light and could barely see it.
Try using the deep point or knife blade.
If you're using the rotary blade, you can't do anything about this. Design Space has a glitch where changing the rotary blade pressure to make it stop cutting into your mat causes the new setting to appear out-of-range so the machine won't cut at all.
Has anyone tried cutting Velcro with this tool? Thanks!
I have not!
just got my cricut maker and want to cut a vinyl stencil material that is thicker than those sold with the cricut name on them. High Bake Paint Mask Stencil Film is what I am using and it is 3.2 mil or so it says on the website. It cuts fine but the maker seems to pull the smaller details out of the stencil as it cuts. I have tried different pressures with different materials and have gotten close to perfect, but not quite there yet. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I would make a custom material and play with less pressure and more passes. You can see about custom material here: ua-cam.com/video/EmUR16HQ-4o/v-deo.html
@@AngieHolden thank you
Wonderful! Can you put a link to the photo fabric please? And can you wash the photo fabric?
Of course! Here is the link: amzn.to/2M322gg . I do not think it is washable however, You might try it!
can cut leather too?
Yes it can!
Can it cut satin?
Yes it can.
Hello, Can I cut a rhinestone sheet with the rotary blade?
How thick are the rhinestones?
Just wondering if the rotary blade gets dull?
It lasts a really really long time. The number one thing that happens with mine is that is gets nicked and starts skipping in the cut then I replace it.
Does it cut childrens foam sheets I want to make play shapes
I usually use a deep point blade for those.
Where can I buy the rotary blade I have looked in many stores and on line and seems that is not available for sell
The rotary blade itself only comes with your Maker then you buy replacement blades.
can you cut cardbaord with it? or it has to be knife blade?
Depends on how thick. For thicker pieces you are going to want the knife blade.
Does the rotary blade cut neoprene fabric
I have not cut it but I think it would.
Can it cut neoprene
I have cut neoprene however the issue with it is getting it to stick to the mat. You may need to play around with it as I had issues.
How do I get intricate lettering cuts. I tried cutting my name in script without any luck. What is the best blade tool to use.??
That depends on what material you are trying to cut the lettering out of.
100% cotton not bonded
I cut felt on my pink mat. It cut really well but it ate up my mat. Rotary tool. What am I doing wrong.
The smaller the turns on your design, the more the rotary tool will dig into your mat. You can make your turns and design larger. Or you can just replace your mat more often.
If you're using the rotary blade, you can't do anything about this. Design Space has a glitch where changing the rotary blade pressure to make it stop cutting into your mat causes the new setting to appear out-of-range so the machine won't cut at all. You're forced to used the default pressure and destroy your mat. Complain to Cricut so they work on this problem.
Thanks for the great videos Angie - they have been so helpful this last week whilst I'm getting to grips with my new Maker. One thing I'm having trouble with is cutting felt using the rotary blade - the blade is cutting into the pink mat and damaging it. I thought I was trying to cut something that was too small and detailed but it's still happening with a larger design. I've also tried changing the pressure to less when setting up the cut but the same thing keeps happening? Any advice? Thanks :)
There are several felt settings. The last pressure/passes is the one with the "C" for Cricut. Try that one and see if that helps any. You can also choose less pressure once you pick that.
@@AngieHolden Thanks Angie, I'll give it a go and let you know the outcome.
@@AngieHolden Hi Angie, so I gave the setting you recommended a go and the mat is still being cut into. The shape is a rolled flower design though its 10cm diameter and not too detailed. I tried the Cricut felt setting for a regular star shape and it cut fine. So I'm guessing its the rolled flower pattern that is causing the problem. I have also tried manually adjusting the cutting pressure in Design Space but this hasn't made any difference - I dropped it to 1592 from 1593 on the Felt Wool Fabric setting but this resulted in the blade not cutting through so I had to revert back to the default pressure. If you have any other suggestions do let me know!
Yes! So any rounded shapes if they are tight AT ALL will make the rotary blade cut into the mat. I just go with it and realize that my mat will not last as long.
@@AngieHolden Ah ha! that helps to explain it. So all those lovely rolled flowers take their toll on the fabric mat... Thanks again Angie :)
will it cut duck fabric?
I think so but I haven't tried it.
What blade cuts cotton for quilting
This would be the blade you would want for that.
Can I use the cricut maker to cut acrylic?
I have been running some tests so stay tuned!
Does it work on the maker 3?
Yes it does.
Does that clear plastic stay on?
Clear plastic on what? Sorry.
How about leathers ? Does this machine cut leather too?
Yes. You can see more here: ua-cam.com/video/nLvbaUWQACg/v-deo.html
Thank you that was so helpful
I just tried my rotary blade today and it doesn't seem to cut. I used felt. It just stays in place and doesn't move
Try a simple shape and see if that works. I am wondering if it is your file.
Can rotary blade cut the cardboard?
No. I would recommend the knife blade if you have thick cardboard.
This is helpful but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. My maker didn’t cut fabric :(
Try this video about cutting fabric: ua-cam.com/video/7_xgMW_FIMQ/v-deo.html
Can the rotary blade be used as a scoring wheel?
No. It would cut the paper instead of score it.
@@AngieHolden - Thank you...I'm learning!
Basswood?
Try this: ua-cam.com/video/9u97t3s2lIE/v-deo.html
I’m new to Cricut Maker and I’m struggling to cut through any material, I’ve tried cotton, sequin fabric and waffle cotton. Nothing seems to work. Please help! I have the rotary cutter in my maker.
What is it doing? What material are you picking in Design Space?
@@AngieHolden it cuts a little bit and then errors, power button flashes red. I’m selecting cotton in design space.
I think I would contact Cricut. It sounds like a faulty rotary blade.
@@AngieHolden thanks. I did call them yesterday and they are replacing the whole unit.
Can we cut with acyrlic?
I have not had luck with that yet but am going to keep trying!
