Ganondorf: "YOU WILL KNOW TRUE PAIN, HERO!" **Link tanking all his hits with his Rupee-powered Magic Armor** : 🥲" **Sniff** ... This hurts me more than you can ever know..."
The fact that this manga just straight-up confirmed the existence of things like the split timeline or the true identity of The Hero's Shade made my jaw drop when I first read it.
Imagine if we one day get an incarnation of Ganondorf who possesses the power and ferocity from TotK, the intelligence and deception from OoT, the complexity of WW, and the sheer horror of manga TW.
Aside from OoT, each of those Ganondorf adaptations have very distinct reasons for being the way they are: WW Ganondorf got the triforce, and then had Hyrule ripped from his grasp by the goddesses flooding the land, and then spent hundreds to thousands of years longing for the desert he was born in, slowly losing the influence of Demise as he languished in his tower. TP Ganondorf was banished from an entire plane of existence and spent his time mastering his sorcery and magic all in an effort to destroy everything the goddesses created. TotK Ganondorf is basically OoT Ganondorf, except his hunger for power lead him to the power of the Dragons instead of the triforce, which was a power that he could wield without being completely overtaken by it immediately, like when he becomes any form of Ganon.
@@jasonkeith2832Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t Ganondorf hate the desert? Why would he want it back? It was death and hardship in comparison to the fertile lands of Hyrule, by his own admission. That’s his whole motivation for wanting to claim dominion and power, no? Not factoring in Demise, I just think Ganondorf had the time to reflect and mellow out through the ages since his defeat. He’s still the same person, just wiser and more patient.
I do remember getting to the final battle in Twilight Princess and imagining that Ganondorf puts up the barrier to isolate he and Link because his brain's just broken and repeating "GREEN ELF BOY ALWAYS RUIN PLANS, HATE ELF BOY, KILL GREEN ELF BOY *NOW*". Made sure when I played Breath of the Wild that I didn't try to beat Calamity Ganon until I'd gotten the Tunic of the Wild, wanted the big guy to come out of his ancient sleep and see the drip that which has caused him endless millennia of hatred and heartburn.
I like that the translators used demon king(a translation of Maō) instead of dark lord and king of evil(which is another translation of Maō). I don't remember if Daimaō(Great demon king, a title that Ganondorf often has when he is extremely powerful or is in possession of Triforce pieces or is the Master of the Triforce) is ever used in the Japanese version of the TP manga. I feel like Ganon's deep desire to create a Makai(demon world) and destroy everything that stands for peace and non-violence or against the demon king of thieves shines a lot throughout the manga because of Ganon's more direct attacks compared to the game. Something I would like to see in a future game is a lot more of Ganondorf's abusive side, his ability to brainwash, his ability to manipulate and decieve and his privileged background, his Hylian followers(who likely exist since it's implied in a few lines and Ganon has been shown to have servants other than Twinrova who aren't Gerudo while the Gerudo themselves are only used as his pawns as the only ones he's fighting for are himself and people like himself who can also become demons) to emphasize the kind of vile and selfish monster of a character he is. Like you could have more people under his rule who choose to defy him mysteriously "disappear" or get brainwashed, bribed, blackmailed, bribed or intimidated into doing his bidding. If anyone talks about his greatness and are asked what makes Ganon great the answer will only be that he has turned the country into a compassion-less nation entirely focused on military and war that doesn't care about anyone's well-being and that he has taken stuff that never belonged to him(which he actually doesn't want to share unless you are useful, powerful and not a threat, exception being anything that makes you just as powerful as he is).
That's how I always saw Ganondorf, he represents the Legacy of Demise and the Demon Tribe, Demise's goal was the same in Japanese, he didnt want the World for himself but for the Demons entirely and turn everything into a Living Hell. This Goal is quite present within other language-versions, though English sadly kind of fucks everything up
I like Ganondorf as cold and calculating, he has class and puts people down in every way, he humilliates his enemies and makes them question themselves. He has, above all, a sense of pride. Tea with Zelda is exactly the kind of decorum he'd do, and it consisting entirely of him just riling up himself is very in character. But I feel he's a bit too aggro sometimes in here. I figure him losing composture around Link is the intention, but I feel he puts himself too low and at his level. For all he manipulates Zant's hatred, he loses that with his own. (Which I guess is how Zelda wrestles control?) That his pride and genuine beliefs of greatness and philosophy should be above that. At least until he snaps. But I guess with OoT's ending that's exactly what happenned. His anger is not so much as the lowly things in front of him, so much as the gods for having this absurd and ironic world. He wants to be to the world what the Goddesses are to him, something unfair and cruel, and way above the pityful helpless beings below. He barely sees Link or Zelda as people and more as, unfortunate tools of his actual enemy: the gods. I love Himekawa's works, they're often a mixed bag of characterization, where the added things really add, but the in-game stuff I feel sometimes misses my own connection. Still, it's mostly pretty good stuff.
I felt him losing his composure was appropriate in Wind Waker. He was pushed to the brink until he finally snapped after getting foiled so many times including his first showdown with LInk.
@@francoperalta5986 Wind Waker does it fantastically. He feels he should've won like 3 times over and constantly cheated by divine whim. The only other guy he hates most showing up hijacking his victory (by taking advantage of a moment of humanity of all things) is so ridiculous he just, breaks. I guess though he's way more of a broken man in general in Wind Waker than in here. In Twilight Princess he escaped death and his plans had been slow but working for a while.
I think the problem with Ganon in Twilight Princess is not that it doesn't make sense. It makes perfect sense. But you are expected to play Ocarina of Time to even know why he's relevant in the game. Mostly because of the time travel stuff Link returns to the present day probably before Ganon even launched his earliest attacks to warn Zelda and this lead to the banishment to the Twilight Realm. This is how Ganon met and recruited Zant and kicked off the events of the game. If you didn't play Ocarina of Time his execution attempt scene would come out of nowhere and you wouldn't know the context behind it and why Ganon is involved in the story.
Guess this would be a main reason why Nintendo tries to make every story like its own, for new commers Ganondorf is very Random to see another dude apparently being more Powerful than Zant, for Experts this is a shock that they have to deal with.

Way I see it, the reason why this Ganondorf was so sadistic and monstrous compared to the usual charismatic and affable Ganondorf is because after being sealed and then regaining the cross-temporal memories of a future where his plan genuinely paid off, he started brooding. Then simmering. And before long he was stewing in his own anger and frustration over not just being thwarted, but knowing full well that it was a plan that WOULD HAVE WORKED IN ANY OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES, he just completely lost his mind and stopped being the charming fellow he once was.
Excellent video. I particularly liked the mention of how the world builds Ganondorf up. Seeing this just as I start on a project inspired ny the Zelda reincarnation cycle is perfect timing! ...now, if only my library wasn't missing Volume 1....
I personally think this version of Ganondorf suffers from a bit of character flanderization. While the OG Ganondorf is definitely evil, he’s the type of evil that remains likable and charismatic, and the original version of TP Ganondorf has a sense of honor. The manga version lacks that and his sadism is cranked up to 11 while his other character traits are dialed down or straight up omitted. In fact he acts more like Mortal Kombat villain Shao Kahn rather than Ganondorf. And I’m not a fan when characters I like are rendered completely unrecognizable, especially in terms of personality.
yeah, I feel by making his hatred of Link be so intense, it loses a bit of what makes Ganondorf who he is. That the way he loses composture and puts himself down for personal, bloody glee is unlikely for a prideful man above all the weak beings. He's cultured, he is "Superior". He is cruel and sadistic, in the way he sees what the world is. Link, Zelda, and the whole situation, they are to him just minions. @@Chris-gx1ei unfortunately, Ganondorf’s honor is only shown in the games. The manga omits it entirely, while pushing his sadism front and center. Making Ganondorf into little more than an angry sadist with only small traces of his charm is the embodiment of character flanderization.
While it may be a deviation, I think it kind of works specifically as a contrast to WW Ganondorf. In Wind Waker, Ganondorf is the winner; he got the triforce, but the goddesses rejected him and flooded Hyrule in an attempt to break him, and it worked. In the time between the flood and the game, the influence of Demise waned greatly, and he longed for the desert he was raised in and only spiraled back into the hate once he actually had the triforce within his grasp. Twilight Princess Ganondorf is the opposite; his scheme was revealed before he could ever enact it, and was banished to the Twilight realm after killing one of the Sages. His seething rage festered as he trained his sorcery until he could corrupt the Twili and use them to bring him back to Hyrule and raze it out of spite.
The real question I have is "Has Ganondorf realized he is an incarnation of the curse of Demise?" Its best shown in TOTK when he uses a tears power to become a demon.
Yeah great read, best Zelda manga Akira Himekawa wrote. The liberties they made, fleshing out characters that didn't have that much time in the spotlight, including Zelda and Ganondorf. There are some things the game's plot did better and stuff I prefer that the manga didn't capitalize on, it just made the manga more unique. Great alternate take on a good Zelda story.
If you are planning to do the whole TP series, you should one that talks about the Hero’s Shades (aka the Hero of Time), his role the manga, his tides to the Hero of Twilight, and his connection with TP Zelda since she received memories of her distant ancestor (memories of OOT Zelda who missed her hero, and feeling his warmed, loving embrace as the Hero’s Shade flees into the afterlife (which strongest suggests Link’s love for Zelda never fades all those years ago)).
Don't forget about how the manga's version of these characters differ from the games counterpart in regards to him. Where unlike the game, TwiLink and the Hero Shade aren't ancestor and descendant given Twilight Link has a different backstory and the Hero Shade had a different life after Manga Majora's Mask.
If they ever remake Twilight Princess I hope they make it as dark as the manga especially leading up to sieging the castle where it shows all the towns being attacked as well at the same time, and maybe show the towns folk struggling to fight back the monsters giving a sense of urgency and locking the player into the final dungeon till they beat it. Obviously there would be a "Once you enter you can not leave" prompt like a lot of RPG's have when facing the final boss
Personally, I think Ganondorf should remain the same as he is in the games, this depiction of Ganondorf is vastly out of character, and I don’t like that.
I really need to get back to writing my zelda fic, but initiative and motivation are hard to come by these days. I have plans for Ganondorf. He won't necessarily be sadistic, but his worldview is entirely dominated by ableism. A planned line for the final battle, inspired by TotK Ganondorf; "Hyrule is already mine, in ruins, its people disparate and desperate. THAT is a mortal's place in this world, and I SHALL MAKE IT SO AGAIN!"
Ganondorf at the end of Ocarina "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!" If Twilight was ever to be remade, I'd love to see them take from the manga, so to further expand the story. Especially when it comes to actually allowing Link to talk, because I think, surely now with other characters having voice acting, the Hero should have a voice of his own. Let's not let a few bad CD-i games stand in the way of progress.
I don’t think Ganondorf’s over the top sadism should be taken from the manga, it’s out of character for the game version. And Link being a silent protagonist is tradition for the games. Him having a voice in the games is a betrayal of what Link’s character is meant to be.
@@jolteontrainer7489 it finished sometime last year if I remember right, it’s super good so I’m sure you will have lots of fun binging it! The box set is also now out so that’s a easy way to get them all
I do find the manga adaptation interesting. I had a theory that Ganondorf in the game had no idea about the other two pieces of the Triforce held by Zelda and Link, as he makes no mention of the Triforce other than the fact he has the mark on his own hand and it basically gives him the right to rule. Plus, if he knew about Zelda's piece, he had her imprisoned for such a long time, so why not just take it from her? Not much to the theory beyond that. Regardless, I just like the idea of him retaining the knowledge of other timelines.
@@InvaderGIR98I dunno if he knew about Zelda or simply knew she was chosen for the Triforce piece considering her stunt with Midna and him having Power.
03:55 - Yeah. I totally agree. Ganondorf has not really been one to mock his foes when they stand up to him. He has been one to only insult you if your effort doesn't stack up to what has been perceived by word of mouth you own or by others, or from past showings of grandeur the same efforts have shown with it by others. That is how much of a "Superiority Complex" this guy has!! The only thing is... He has the powers to back it up! That's why he laughs alot only after he feels he has secured a win and plans in secret without having himself being "linked" pun intended, to the plans going on, only having traitors and prophets figuring it out to tell the hero.
On this analysis. While I give props to the Akira Himekawa's books, for adding layers developing Ganondorf and Zelda better and his motivations for revenge for being foiled by OoT Link and Zelda. If its about the showdown they had in the adult timeline, Ganondorf remembering that defeat because his triforce gave him those memories is lore the manga writers made up. I can jive with that among other liberties. But the game counterpart didn't need to do that because first, in TP, that showdown never happened and 2nd that plot was sort of realized in Wind Waker thing. It worked and was more appropriate there because they continued on from the original showdown. He remembers losing because he lived it himself. Personally regarding Ganondorf in Twilight Princess the game, the sages info and memory of botching his execution gives us some context of what happened after Link ratted him out and TP having his dealings with Zant empowering him like Time Link empowers Twilight Link gives me enough to justify him being in TP or at least him in that flashback. Course they could've done better for building him up later on.
@@francoperalta5986 there is a lot of stuff made up for this manga series and even in the other books they have made but I like seeing these takes on the games i think it’s pretty cool getting another personal take

I just managed to find this video and after watching it HOLY SHIT OH FUCK that was immense i’m now thinking of eventually making something for people to watch on UA-cam That’s a somewhat combination of the game and whatever the fuck that was with of course some differences to remain true to the game and possibly with other ones like ocarina of time, skyward sword, and every other game along with a complete retelling of the original high warriors with some amount of things that would remain true to the original, and that would also include age of calamity with some fixes on certain things and more because this video just inspired me

I would have shield bashed the crap out of Zelda, I think the Manga timelines have better storylines than the game to be honest. They put a lot of spins on the story.
The manga is a pretty mixed bag. I really enjoyed it, but I also really didn't like some of the stuff they did, but oh well. I also wasn't the fan of when they tried to make Ganondorf at the end seem slightly sympathetic, it just doesn't work especially not in this story, like dude why are you talking about is it in our right HIS ARMY IS LITERALLY ATTACKING AND KILLING PEOPLE IN TOWN.
ngl, I hated the first volume. I'm going to keep reading, but make no mistake, that first volume is irredeemable trash. I can't really say it's due to the translation (although that does play its part). The manga just doesn't understand the concept of "it's what you don't say". Basically, if the reader is already thinking something, maybe the author should consider what else to say so as not to be redundant. If the reader is thinking what you wanted them to think already, then don't say it out loud. This story is so so so guilty of saying exactly what it's thinking.

@@SuperZeldaGirl it’s also implied in Hyrule Historia that Ganondorf was happy to break free from the endless cycle when he died in Wind Waker.
~ Have you checked out the Twilight Princess manga yet?
I will now! Thx!
I have the whole series. It was way better than the game
Great video! It surely reminded me of why I bought the whole series and loved it so much :D thanks!
@@Falamoy thank you and no problem haha the series really is amazing
If you are planning to do the whole TP series, you should one that talks about the Hero’s Shades (aka the Hero of Time), his role the manga, his tides to the Hero of Twilight, and his connection with TP Zelda since she received memories of her distant ancestor (memories of OOT Zelda who missed her hero, and feeling his warmed, loving embrace as the Hero’s Shade flees into the afterlife (which strongest suggests Link’s love for Zelda never fades all those years ago)).
@@a.jthomas6132 oh I definitely will have a lot to say about him in this manga
FAAAAAAAVORITE Ganondorf personally
I really need to get back to writing my zelda fic, but initiative and motivation are hard to come by these days. I have plans for Ganondorf. He won't necessarily be sadistic, but his worldview is entirely dominated by ableism.
A planned line for the final battle, inspired by TotK Ganondorf;
"Hyrule is already mine, in ruins, its people disparate and desperate. THAT is a mortal's place in this world, and I SHALL MAKE IT SO AGAIN!"
Ganondorf saw a alternate timeline and became very angry... kinda like Endgame's Thanos... did the film producers read the manga?
@@olhoTron this manga started after endgame came out so it’s possible that the creators may have watched the movie
13:31 Link: Damn what he say fuck me for?
Awesome video!!
Thanks!
Ganondorf at the end of Ocarina "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!"
If Twilight was ever to be remade, I'd love to see them take from the manga, so to further expand the story.
Omg, the manga is finished? I LOVE twilight princess and a finished manga series is something I will binge on
@@jolteontrainer7489 it finished sometime last year if I remember right, it’s super good so I’m sure you will have lots of fun binging it! The box set is also now out so that’s a easy way to get them all
Not only is it finished, Viz litterally _just_ released a boxset of the whole thing.
about to go beat him on gamecube to remind him i was made in the triforce's image and not him
I do find the manga adaptation interesting.
I think he knew about Zelda, when he's talking about those "chosen by the gods" he looks at her body
@@InvaderGIR98I dunno if he knew about Zelda or simply knew she was chosen for the Triforce piece considering her stunt with Midna and him having Power.
This HAS to be an anime.
@@EyeofKoruption it would be a great anime if they followed this manga
What about an animated film.
He is a man controlled by his hatred now!
Yeah if anything the OG Ganondorf would actually compliment you for being brave enough to stand up to him.
@@francoperalta5986 there is a lot of stuff made up for this manga series and even in the other books they have made but I like seeing these takes on the games i think it’s pretty cool getting another personal take
Cant wait to hear your thoughts on the manga
@@Dragoran5836 I look forward to talking about it all 😁
Playing a mind games on TP Link by controlling Zelda’s body is one of the darkest moments in the manga adaptation.
@@a.jthomas6132 it’s such a great moment!
@@SuperZeldaGirl fR and I like the part where Zelda regains control of her entire body a moment before Midna is about to make her move. It shows how much of a strong will TP Zelda is. Even if she has to kill herself to prevent Ganondorf from killing Link.
I adore this manga and would love if you would do more videos about it! Maybe you could talk about Link and Midna’s relationship compared to the game?
@@sheriboudreaux9078 I hope to cover all the amazing new story points and changes in a much bigger video
I just managed to find this video and after watching it HOLY SHIT OH FUCK that was immense i’m now thinking of eventually making something for people to watch on UA-cam That’s a somewhat combination of the game and whatever the fuck that was with of course some differences to remain true to the game and possibly with other ones like ocarina of time, skyward sword, and every other game along with a complete retelling of the original high warriors with some amount of things that would remain true to the original, and that would also include age of calamity with some fixes on certain things and more because this video just inspired me
great video!
There will never be another version of Ganondorf that tops TP Ganondorf. I love the Era of the wilds, I love Era of the Wild Ganondorf, but I think TP would kick this guy’s butt!
Talk about absolute hatred. And with that I wonder if he did anything different to Zant in the manga, seeing that for this version it don’t look like Zant finish him off.
@@BergmitetheBlueandPointy0712 no zant doesn’t finish him like the game though I don’t remember things being to different between them
@@SuperZeldaGirl So Zant in the manga is pretty much the same as the game version. Both serious and crazy usurper king.
@@BergmitetheBlueandPointy0712 he’s also shown to be an inscel as well since he actively shows creepy and lustful tendencies towards Midna.

The manga was FAR superior to the game.
It really did fleshed a lot of stuff out
That is some major hate right there.
@@aliastheabnormal definitely
