    @FaeSparrow 18 днів тому +67

    Omg I never thought about her being a Dragonborn! It would make so much sense! I always speculated that there might be a 2nd Dragonborn (bc of Arngeir's comment about 'You're the only one that showed up so far' upon being asked if we are the only Dragonborn). If TES VI would confirm that there was indeed a 2nd Dragonborn, Bethesda could fill any plothole / prevent any continuity error, by explaining that this 2nd Dragonborn did all the quests we didn't do in our playthrough. For example: If 'our' Dragonborn didn't restore the thieves guild, TES VI can simply claim that the 'other Dragonborn' did so. You get the idea.
    For a while I wondered if the ebony warrior could be this 2nd Dragonborn, but we don't absorb his soul after defeating him, so that wouldn't make sense. Sissel is a child and can't be killed (without mods), so she is a perfect candidate for having a Dragon soul without any player ever realising.

      For what it's worth, canon is that in Morrowind and Oblivion everything was done by "someone." The CoC might have been that someone, but the Nerevarine explicitly couldn't have done it all. IIRC the EC did everything in Arena, though.
      With Skyrim we should be more interested in what happened in Daggerfall, because the same thing _explicitly_ happens at the end of Skyrim. Daggerfall's plot choices/conflicts are explained by a "dragon break," in which an avatar of the dragon god, representing time, is damaged in combat with another powerful entity, the Numidium. It's worth noting that the game (besides Arena) with the fewest potential plot conflicts ends with the dragon avatar destroying a foe and then turning to stone, as if to signify that time for this period is immutable- Everything that happened happened. But the end of Skyrim features the defeat of Alduin, an avatar of the dragon god, who shatters into pieces. (Also Arena, through a probably deliberate later addition to the lore, technically ends in a similar way; the eight pieces of the Staff of Chaos, which is later implied to be the same staff the Marukhati Selective danced on and broke into 8 pieces just as Jagar Tharn broke it into 8 pieces, are reunited, and when the Selective broke the staff it caused a dragon break, so its reunion presumably strengthens the dragon or otherwise symbolizes the stabilization of time.)
      The reason that is important is that while some things have to have been done by the Dragonborn (defeating Miraak, defeating Alduin), and some could have potentially been done by someone else (reviving the Thieves Guild, becoming the Harbinger of the Companions, securing the Eye of Magnus), there are things you can do on Skyrim that are irreconcilable alternative choices, many if not most of which have very significant implications for the future of the setting, similar to Daggerfall. Does the Dawnguard or the Volkihar win (note Dawnguard has parts that must be done by a Dragonborn as well, but that's not super important for my point)? Is the Dark Brotherhood all-but-destroyed, reduced to one child vampire and one redguard warrior, and no Listener, or restored, with a new Listener purifying the guild? Is the Circle cured of lycanthropy by their persuasive new Harbinger, or do they remain a cult of Hircine? Does the Empire or do the Stormcloaks win the civil war? Is Paarthurnax killed or are the Blades essentially defunct? The answer will presumably be all (or in some cases either or neither) of the above. As a lot of these are binary conflicts, as opposed to Daggerfall where the primary conflict was between a large number of alternatives, it is unclear how the conflicts will be resolved going forward, but it's a strong theory that in any case a dragon break will be the excuse for why player choice cannot carry over to the next game in specific terms, in 2089 when TES6 comes out.
      The biggest flaw in the otherwise excellent Thieves Guild questline is that there is no choice in the quest, even though there's an obvious place for one that tends to stand out to plauers who like to roleplay- Even though you'd have to be playing a really specific and odd character (or just metagaming) to both make it to that point in the questline and take the pact with Nocturnal, there is no optuon to refuse. You literally get a dialogue selection with only one option, "yes, I'm ready." Given much of the team worked on Thief previously, and dragon elements are absent from the questline, perhaps this is simply because the TG was designed and written earlier in development. The College of Winterhold has the same problem, but it's just a lacklustre faction with a very short questline and no side-progression to begin with; I suspect it was the _last_ faction written and consequently was never actually finished.

    • @Risvaalbo
      @Risvaalbo  16 днів тому

      @@vitriolicAmaranth What an honour to have an Elder Scrolls veteran here; thank you for your comment! I still have not finished Daggerfall, but I have read there are multiple outcomes to the main quest; had no idea that they used a Dragon Break to explain the ending. It is honestly a shame the College of Winterhold questline was not handled better. It had potential to be the most interesting of the factions, in my opinion, with the Eye of Magnus, the Augur of Dunlain,The Great Collapse, etc., etc. I also suspect the Bard's College was a last-minute addition, because... Well, it is so unremarkable that players forget it even exists in the game.

      In my (multiple) PTs, I have one of my chars as a "canon" DB and another (Not Dragonborn) as a bloke who travelled with her for a time (NDB did protection work for my Merchant Character and also the Thieves' Guild). A third of my chars is the one who does the Dark B'hood also (in my head) unalived Lemkill because _she_ didn't like him much (and of course follows the Dark B storyline). So the twins ended up in the Orphanage and NDB adopted them (along with the 4 remaining kids who weren't adopted by the 3 others; I used the adopt 6 mod for him). He Talks Very Sternly to the bully twin and (mostly) changes some of that behaviour and of course Sissel met the DB (who'd adopted Sofie and Lucia) through him. I like giving children a better life if I can; there's already too much awfulness in that world. I also had in my head that Sissel would be A Bit Magick, so I loved weeing this pop up.

    I think if she is a seer it’s more likely that she is seeing nax bc she WILL be involved with him some day rather than having any current ties to him. So she’s not reaching out to communicate so much as just receiving a vision.

      The only issue I see with this is that technically in canon, the Dragonborn is forced to kill Nax/Partysnacks to finish the main quest line.
      Paarthurnax Dilemma aside, how is she meant to see visions of a future working with him if he is doomed to die in canon?
      This is really a confusing one, and I literally never gave this girl a moment of thought. But now I'm intrigued

    • @Risvaalbo

      @@runic_raptor Hm... You know, I don't hold out much, if any, hope for Elder Scrolls 6 and I'd be happy if the games ended with Skyrim, to be perfectly honest, but considering 99.9% of the fanbase does not let a scale fall off Nax's tail, I think they might leave the choice deliberately vague as to what happens to him or completely get behind the fans' backs and make it so that he lived. If they just outright make it canon that the Dragonborn killed him, they'd have to deal with a very angered army of Dovahkiinne.

      I also don't discount her being a seer just because she doesn't mention seeing us or Alduin. If I were a little girl the dream that would stand out for me would be the one about the kind gray dragon and be worth mentioning.

      @@Risvaalbo Yeah that's my initial thought, she is a victim of abuse whether subtle or otherwise from both her Father and Sister. Jouane teaching her magic, it seems like it's an outlet for her maybe he is aware of her circumstance and is giving her a way to take her mind off of things. Teaching her utility and maybe defensive based spells like water breathing as an intro skill that could lead to other alteration skills like oakskin or other armor spells given her context.
      While not teaching her destruction skills given the foresight of the many things that could go wrong with teaching an overly eager child how to spawn fire out of thin air. Along with the potential harm to her father or sister that if she gets cornered by either of them and decides to fight back it won't end well likely for either of the family or maybe cause an incident to the village as a whole.

    perhaps, Paarthurnax senses something from her, and the dreams she experiences are him shielding her from the view of other dragons. It would explain why she only experiences dreams of seeing him, and his actions are protective, which is why he doesn't seem scary to her in her dreams. It would explain why he does not speak of her as well. While we could likely ensure she is protected, perhaps us meddling in any way could make her life worse overall.

    Dont know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but perhaps the dragon she sees in her dreams is actually Peryite, since he is depicted as a dragon-esqe creature in his statue in ES4 and though I'm not sure what other connection there could be to him, it would give a reason why her teacher is hesitant to teach her destruction/harmful spells, plus her mother did die while giving birth to them so idk that could mean something.
    PS: really nice video, it's nice to see more Elder Scrolls youtubers popping up

    • @Risvaalbo
      @Risvaalbo  7 днів тому

      Unslaad kogaan, thank you for your comment! As for your speculation about the dragon actually being Peryite; he has been responsible for numerous plagues and pandemics throughout the history of Nirn and fertile women in Rorikstead seem to die in childbirth or shortly afterwards; while this may not necessarily be caused by an ailment, it could indeed be connected to Peryite and he could be the Daedric presence in Rorikstead. However, I personally find the latter speculation highly unlikely, because if Rorikstead has its fertile soil, due to some form of Daedric pact, I highly doubt Peryite would be involved in this. Also, we do not know for certain if he can send dreams or communicate through them; he is generally considered to be the weakest of all Daedric Princes, which, however is still rather powerful, so, who knows, maybe he can send dreams. Rumour has it that he takes on the shape of a dragon-like creature to mock Akatosh's image and Akatosh is usually depicted as golden. Perhaps taking on the form of a dragon who is "old and grey" is his way of mocking him? This is all I can think of at the top of my head right now. All in all, good theory!

    It could be symbolic (or maybe directly intentional) too, like Paarthurnax and Alduin are brothers, Sissel and Britte are sisters and choose side of good or evil, especially if we are assuming Britte have hidden power too, but she choose to suppress it because she don't want to look "freak" like her sister. Interesting point of view. I had considered saving Sissel from her cruel family, but the possibilities make it all the more imperative to do so. At this point, I think I would consider taking out Lemkil, and rescuing Sissel from Honorhall, leaving her sister behind, then see what, if anything, may happen by taking Sissel to the Greybeards or to Snax.

    Great video! Here are some ideas about her:
    Maybe Sissel is connected to the dreamsleeve or Aka in some way? She does not have to be a dragonborn necessarily but she seems to have some ability to peer beyond the veil at least in some way.
    In a much softer way her upcoming also mirrors vivec in some way even if only vaguely. Being birthed in death, connected to abuse and violence in her childhood and being born at a time of great importance. Maybe she is one the first incredibly small step to CHIM.
    Or she is a piece of broken time from one of Aka's breaks? Maybe a splinter of the Zaan soul? That would fit with your dragonpriest idea

    My personal theory is that the people of Rorikstead are reachmen who have assumed the identity of the dead villagers or they were deserters from the war who did the same.
    Think of the gang from Red Dead Redemption coming across a town where the farms and homes were all abandoned or the inhabitants had been killed.

    • @Risvaalbo
      @Risvaalbo  19 днів тому +2

      Very intriguing take; Rorikstead is exactly at the border to the Reach and they are known for worshiping Daedra. Plus, Jouane, who appears to be the head of the entire conspiracy is a Breton and many Reachmen are of Breton descent, at least as far as I know. And they have an aptitude for magic, too.

    • @Loreweavver
      @Loreweavver 19 днів тому +4

      @Risvaalbo there are only a handful of adults in the town. Two are very young children and two seem to be in their late twenties or early thirties while Rorik says he founded the town thirty years ago. Erik and the other orphan wouldn't have remembered and nobody has a mother around.
      The more I describe it, the more I think of the gang from RDR2.
      Rorik and the Breton mage first made me think the real Rorik died in battle and the two of them came up with a con to replace him.
      But the whole town seems off. The whiterun guards walk around like nameless bandit NPCs just wearing armor they found and there are more guards than citizens.

    • @Risvaalbo
      @Risvaalbo  19 днів тому +1

      @@Loreweavver Hearting both of your comments, because this is a great theory! Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the resemblance between Rorikstead and the RDR2 gang you speak of, for I have never played RDR2. Something that is also interesting to note is that Rorikstead has actually existed in the exact same spot hundreds of years ago and it is very strange that Rorik claims to have built the town about 30 years ago; I have seen a theory that the village is stuck in a time loop based on this fact, but your theory also ties into that: an uneducated Forsworn/Reachman wouldn't be aware of the village's existence hundreds of years ago.
      Also, never noticed that there are so many guards in Rorikstead before you mentioned it; I don't know if it has something to do with Balgruuf sending more troops to the villages in Whiterun Hold to protect the citizens from the dragons; but he only ever mentions sending troops to Riverwood and the player can see them only after Balgruuf sends them; I have never been to Rorikstead before speaking to Balgruuf and the first dragon attack, so I do not know if there are just as many guards there beforehand, and if there are, it is indeed odd. There is also a Forsworn camp very close to Rorikstead as well and they don't seem to bother the village; one could argue that it's because it's technically not exactly on Reach territory but still, it's right at the border, they could easily attack it if they really wanted to, unless they are in cahoots with the "villagers" or are aware that the "villagers" could fight them off.
      The only question is how Reldith (The Altmer) fits into all of this; high elves aren't normally bandits or Forsworn. Perhaps she is an exception to the rule or she and Ennis are unsuspecting citizens who moved in Rorikstead after the fact? Although she also acts suspiciously with Jouane and has a soul gem in her house...

    • @Loreweavver
      @Loreweavver 19 днів тому +1

      @Risvaalbo Reldith would fit in more with the deserters or bandit idea than the reachmen idea.
      There's also the idea that the child bearing women don't seem to live long in Rorikstead.
      Keep in mind that most people don't know the history of their towns.
      As the player character we have to track down the former holdings if a jarl or a couple books (although there is a bard song that makes it seem like the town is much older.)

    Great video, Could you possibly explore the theory of mannimarco being a shezzarine? Some points to that:
    Lorkhan is associated with mortality, transcendence, and rebellion against divine authority. Mannimarco, as the King of Worms, exemplifies a mortal who transcends mortality through necromancy and ascends to godhood.
    Like Lorkhan, Mannimarco is a figure who rebels against established norms. By mastering necromancy and defying Arkay (the divine steward of life and death), Mannimarco mirrors Lorkhan's defiance of the Aedra and their creation of Mundus.
    Mannimarco’s divine presence as the Necromancer’s Moon could be seen as a distorted echo of Lorkhan’s Heart or the shattered moons Masser and Secunda. Both represent fragments of transcendent ambition and mortality.

      @@Risvaalbo As for my personal theory, Waterbreathing is an adept-level spell. Sissel is a child. It's possible (depending on your level when you join the College of Winterhold) that J'zargo, Onmund, and Brelyna, who are all adults, might not know any adept-level spells yet. Ek suleyk los lot fah gein kiir. As you stated, a dragon would be able to sense such things from quite a distance, hence why Paarthurnax visits Sissel in her dreams. As to why no mention is made of this by anyone else, it's possible that someone disregarded this as a fantasy. Thus, if she is a seer, it's likely that no one save for the dov, the Aedra, and the Daedric Princes are consciously aware of it. Also, Paarthurnax states that prophecies represent what may happen, as supposed to what will happen. Essentially, the most likely outcome. Therefore, it's not certain that the player character is the last Dovahkiin, it's just the most likely scenario. This means that it's entirely possible that Sissel is both a seer and a Plan B Dragonborn, with no joor being aware of either.

    What a treat to be recommended such a high value video from a small creator. Your research is fantastic. I wonder if there’s any unique dialogue if you adopt her? I might have to check it out today. Im about to drop some deep lore that could be meaningful or may not be. I’d never heard the theory of parthurnaax specifically trying to contact her, but I really liked it. Here’s what I can extrapolate-
    The creation myth of the mundus pits shor-lorhkan against auri-el-alduin, a padomaic force of change against an anuic force of order and stasis. Shor and alduin are eternally at odds with eachother. While alduin seeks to destroy the world to continue the kalpic cycle, it was shor who first set it in motion and would want to see it continued. In the dawn era, shor was killed and yet continues to manifest because his soul is the soul of mundus. In the first era, Saint alessia combined the two gods into akatosh, a schizophrenic amalgam of two opposing forces. I am unfamiliar with the theories of why parthurnaax shows signs of aging, but something that makes sense to me would be that while both he and alduin are sons of akatosh, alduin takes the characteristics of auri-el while parthurnaax is more in line with Shor. This is why he would help the men rebel, and why he would lead the greybeards (who follow kyne, shor’s wife). being a dead god, his bodily form is not immortal. There is no textual basis for this, but it would make sense as to why sissel would have visions of him while parthurnaax himself does not mention it. Parthurnaax may be a shezarrine, and shor simply uses his likeness to communicate with agents of fate. In the same way that Saint Alessia received visions before changing the course of history. Maybe she is destined to join the graybeards. Maybe she is destined to be Dragonborn, due to the last Dragonborn’s stress induced fertility problems, or maybe there is something else in store.
    In any case, your theory has given me a lot to think about! Good luck, and Lok Thu’um!

      Wow, thank you so much for your kind words and overall incredible comment, full of so much invaluable knowledge! And I don’t mean to presume you don’t know the lore, your command of the dragon tongue is the only reason I even mentioned any pre Skyrim lore, you actually know what you’re talking about lol. I listened to this video while driving to work so my theory is pretty half baked, I am very excited to see how you expand on it!

      Another shezzarine people fail to recognize is mannimarco, Lorkhan is associated with mortality, transcendence, and rebellion against divine authority. Mannimarco, as the King of Worms, exemplifies a mortal who transcends mortality through necromancy and ascends to godhood. This echoes Lorkhan's theme of challenging the natural order of the Aurbis.
      Like Lorkhan, Mannimarco is a figure who rebels against established norms. By mastering necromancy and defying Arkay (the divine steward of life and death), Mannimarco mirrors Lorkhan's defiance of the Aedra and their creation of Mundus .Mannimarco’s divine presence as the Necromancer’s Moon could be seen as a distorted echo of Lorkhan’s Heart or the shattered moons Masser and Secunda. Both represent fragments of transcendent ambition and mortality.

    Not bad for a first video👍
    Yet, be careful for, sometimes, the music tends to be louder than your own voice, making a bit hard to decipher.
    Interesting analysis but it would also be interesting to also speak about the developing of the game. Was her character supposed to be more developed but cut short because of lack of time? did anyone questioned the developers to learn about their plans for her?
    Beside that, you are on the right path to do great videos on the future, a very promising beginning.

    Here's a question I've never asked. How are more dragons made? Was there alaays a set number created at the same time as Alduin? Or do they lay eggs?

    • @Risvaalbo
      @Risvaalbo  16 днів тому +1

      "There is no credible story of how dragons came to be. According to dremora that the College of Whispers have "questioned," they just were, and are. Eternal, immortal, unchanging, and unyielding. They are not born or hatched. They do not mate or breed. There are no known examples of dragon eggs or dragonlings. The Iliac Bay area has stories of such things, but so far all have proven false. The eggs turned out to be eggs of other reptiles. The small dragons were merely oversized lizards and no relation to true dragons." -- Torhal Bjorik, "There be Dragons". Alduin is "Akatosh's Firstborn", and it is speculated that he is an aspect of him, a shard, if you will, of the Dragon God of Time; he was the first. As for the rest, it is said they were as wild as anything initially and Alduin created their civilization. One thing is certain about this otherwise enigmatic topic, for no one can say with absolute certainty exactly how dov came to be, but they were definitely *not* created at the same time. Some are more ancient than others and there are speculations dragons are shards of time that are shattered during a Kalpa cycle or a Dragon Break. If this is true, then I suspect dovahhe, who come from earlier Kalpas or Dragon Breaks are considered older than ones that were "born" during more recent ones. Something I find quite intriguing, however, is that in The Forgotten Vale from the Dawnguard DLC, we have twin dragons: Voslaarum and Naslaarum, I believe their names were... What classifies them as twins? Were they two shards of time broken simultaneously? Or were they initially one shard that then broke in two pieces? Forgive me if my comment is incoherent; I do believe there are lore videos covering the topic and explaining it much better than I did, however, if you are interested in watching them. Thank you for your comment!
