The Philippines is one of the best places to go backpacking in Asia. Friendly Filipinos, awesome food, and lots of wonderful places to go explore and make memories.
1:01:58 Thailand and PH both have friendly and smiling people. But it's easier to connect with locals in the Philippines mainly because of the English-speaking population. I'm from PH and have been to all of those places. Nice vid. Raw, real, not glossed up or filtered. Balanced. Shows the harsh reality but also the beauty of those places. Well done! 👍
I swear that view in siargao is probably one of the best view I've ever seen. It's like a wallpaper in windows or something. I'm abosolutely astonished by it! Siargao is definetly underrated you guys should explore it more next time. Anyways great videos man!
I’m from the Philippines and saw many vlogs about our country and this is one of my favorites. I love how you presented it including the delays in the airport, long bus, boat trips. Ahahaha..
I thought that was a great adventure you had in the Philippines. The video shows the reality of what's going on to get to the place where you should be. I have so many things I like on what you've said especially the thoughts what's in front of you. I love that. Your experience with the locals I think were the things that you should be experiencing as a guest in the country. The first vlog I have watched from your channel and made me subscribed not because it's the Philippines but because of the content of the video. Great job!!!
Wonderful video Karl. My husband and I have spent two to three weeks just in Siargao once or twice a year for the past four years (obviously we love it). We eat, drink, read, surf, visit smaller islands etc. It has changed drastically since my first visit. But I agree with your closing statement one island at a time. The islands are all about relaxation, sun and the mango juices (with vodka of course/ beer for hubby) in my opinion. Hope you get the chance to visit Siargao again soon and get some surfing and paddle boarding in.
I visited the Philippines 10 years ago for the first time. Never understood why it was so underrated at that time with so few tourists. Interesting to see how it's getting more and more popular nowadays. Maybe thanks to social media too.
It’s underrated because Philippine/US relations have been poor for the past 20 years...i like it like this though because it keeps the 7,000 islands a hidden gem from over Westernization
@@miketomvlogs1506 I agree! It's sad that people have no respect for other countries other than their own. I've seen this on many many occasions traveling the world. The rudeness n the ignorance that pours outta these poor souls is appalling. So it's best to keep them at bay! 😉😄✌
Definitely one of the bests travel vlog I've watched. The video was so genuine, no sugarcoating, very natural and good editing. It's true, Philippines is a one stop adventure destination, just name it you can have it.
Awesome, well done. I'm intrigued to go back and see more at some point. I went to Palawan seven years ago but the weather was crap, so the sea, sky and water didn't look anything like that, it was mostly gray and murky water, no point in snorkeling. A lot of islands to see there. Siargao looked especially nice. Peace out and happy trails.
I highly recommend you do. I was there earlier this year. The snorkeling day tour was amazing and would get a lot of nice GoPro footage for your channel. I got lucky as the day after the snorkeling tour it rained half the day.
Gabriel Traveler go to the phippines from January to May it is DRY SEASON , APRIL AND MAY very hot in the Philippines...june to november expect rains and typhoons , december to february not too warm not too cold
for foreign visitors, i guess it's worthy to consider that april and may are arguably the busiest tourism months in the philippines since it's summer and tons of filipinos travel and tour around the country during that time. it's best to probably avoid going there during the annual holy week break (w/c usually falls on april or early may) because the number of travelers on the roads, ports, and airports increase exponentially on those busy time frames
It's funny. I've been watching you guys since the genesis of your channel, and it really has been you and Christian LeBlanc who persuaded me to quit my job and start my travel vlog on youtube. For that I thank you. Your editing skills, effects and most of all adventures and captivating moments have made your channel, for me, the best on UA-cam!
If anyone is planning to go to the Philippines, Jan-March would be the best time(just my opinion) to go! Beautiful weather not too hot and humid, not much tourists (even locals), and prices usually go down during this time cause we Filipinos spend all our hard earned money during christmas! So we’re all broke by January! Hehehe. April and May is peak season! You’ll really see a ton of people in all the nice spots plus its summer vacation so most families travel during this time.
@@joventopinio8076 I was wondering why this was the first one to reach 1 million views, all of Karl's video's are incredible but I was thinking it was gonna be the Africa or Egypt series to reach 1 million first.
Awesome video! It's really cool to see your perspective. I appreciate the end recommending a route with fewer flights if you're on a time constraint. I'm heading there soon so thanks for all the advice! And nice bit about the whale sharks.

@@alldayeveryday20able sorry to hear that... But have u been around to each islands of the Philippines... If you are in need to use the restroom... Just by using fast-food chain restroom is ok. Yes just 1 island for a month or less. I really fell in love with the Philippines, especially once I saw El Nido last September. Wonderful country, wonderful people. My favourite country in the world.
As a filipino, this is by far the best travel video I've seen about our country. This video is very well-balanced and you were able to clearly show the two sides of tourism in our country both good and bad (especially the transportation infrastructure) in a manner where I feel proud about our strengths but not insulted or offended when you highlight things that need improving. Thanks so much for this! You have gained another subscriber :) 'From a Filipino transplanted in London' :)
Loved the documentary Karl. I definitely feel more confident about planning my trip to the Philippines now. Thanks for all the helpful advice and honest reviews.
This video is just amazing! I was covinced right at the moment as you said you don´t use drone shots :) I loved also that you comment your trip critically at the end and don´t say omg everything was so perfect like in other videos. It helps me and others to plan our trip better. I will be at the Philippines in one week also for three weeks and I won´t make the mistake to visit too many islands. Maybe i will make your suggested Palawan - Coron trip. Thank you!
Watching your Switzerland video, didn't realize I've shared this one from the Philippines a few years ago when I first saw this. By the way, we just opened for tourism again this Feb. Also, Boracay looks different now after it was rehabilitated although Cebu and Siargao is still in recovery mode after the typhoon hit those places last year.
Very good documentary. It was long but I didn't even notice it until when it was almost over. One thing I noticed was that you tried to cram your trip trying to see as many places in such a short time. Just when you are starting to enjoy the place, you had to leave. And the planning was poor as well. When I travel, I research about the place and what activities to do or sites to see so I won't end up wasting time. Know how much transpo and food costs and stuff like that. It's definitely worth visiting the place again but this time, you need to be more prepared.
Hey man I just wanted to let you know, the line at the end of the video about enjoying what is right in front of you is the best advice you can give anyone. I just booked a flight to Puerto Princesa from Vietnam and I leave tomorrow on a whim so thank you for such an awesome look into what this country has to offer. Cheers!
Karl, i definitely agree with your observation. If you have limited stay, just do one island - pick what you think is best, and enjoy your stay! Philippines is trying to catch up with its infrastructure development compared to its neighbors. Wish they could do it a lot faster it's just lots of beautiful places to explore! Nice vid i enjoyed watching it!
Philipinos are the most amazing people I had to pleasure to meet.Everywhere i only came across very humble caring hospitable people.Very warming to people in general. And genuine friendly....
One of the best or the best backpacking video experience I've watched. Philippines really won't disappoint you when it comes to islands adventure, truely paradise & the best in the world combining nature, people, & culture.
There's a big difference between the Oslob whale sharks and the elephants in Thailand. In Oslob, whale sharks are not exploited whatsoever because centuries since, the sharks have been visiting the same area on a daily basis. The feeding only started in 2011 I guess when news reached the local officials that a similar whale shark attraction in Sorsogon was a hit to tourists. In Thailand, (I went there this March) exploitation is really very evident because the animals are shackled and kept in a very small enclosure relative to their size and made to entertain tourists who are allowed to ride on their back around a very short course. Upon seeing that, I refused to do the same. But in Oslob, sharks are taken cared for, no physical contact allowed both by fishermen and tourists, no camera flash, visitors are not permitted to put on sunblock lotion when swimming. There are three crew in every boat each having a role to play. Two of which will swim with the visitors to closely watch if they observe the rules. Violators are dealt with seriously. They get pulled out immediately and banned from visiting the whale sharks again forever.
Awesome work man as usual. I'm late watching but finally got around to it. I'm currently 5 months into a trip of New Zealand, followed by Australia and ending with South East Asia in February 2019. All of this exploring and adventuring came to fruition after I watched your HK2NY series. You have such an amazing way of breaking down footage and being completely honest about the destinations. It's nice to see that side of backpacking. You inspired me to get out and explore and I'm sure thousands of others are in the same situation. Glad to see your channel continue to grow. Can't wait to see and follow along with the next adventure. Maybe we'll link up for some beers at some stage in the future. Great work again man. Cheers
The clips of you and James just hanging out on the "private" beach really shows how much traveling has changed him. Great video as always Karl, can't wait for the Japan ones!
Wow! Now I got some informations before my trip in 4 weeks from now. I have 4 weeks staying there hopefully I’ll enjoy it as much as you do. Traveling from the U.S. is 24 hrs. just to get there. Thanks a lot, have fun again on your next trip.
Another awesome video Karl! Thank you for visiting my country. In the end, you discovered that more than beautiful locations, it is our people that makes it more fun in the Philippines, minus the flight delays and bad traffic. Hope you come back again soon!

A D V i C E : if you go here in Philippines , of course you will be welcomed like youre a part of the family .. but it doesnt mean you must trust anyone you meet .. sometimes you just have to be open minded .. not all people are good .. you must not trust a person 100% .. because in every good things theres bad things ! .. i saw and heard about foreigners being scamed , or beeing tricked .. this vlog is very helpful its raw , no filter it shows the real beauty the real color of the nature the other side of the culture ,. and advice for the bagpackers .. and wait : i heard it "ABODO" its actually "ADOBO" HAHAHA !! and yes .. Choosy Dog exsits in philippines .. hahaha
45:57 thaat is suuch a good spot and good timing...it just feels like you are in ur own lil world..good to have alone time and just talk.. and pink skies..daamn
Another enjoyable watch mate :) really liked your summary and point about how you tried to cram in too much to too short a timeframe...I've been guilty of the same thing both on my trip to Vietnam and more recently Indonesia (so much island hopping there). It all looks great on paper but when the rubber hits the road...getting around South East Asia is never ever going to go smoothly hahaha. Definitely learned from those mistakes and now I try to plan with a few 'buffer' days spare that can be used to rest up from the travel and just accommodate how long it can take to get from A to B. During my time in Indo I think every single flight I caught was delayed by at least two hours! Reliably late. Anyway, I always like how you keep it real in these videos - meaning, you don't shy away from the fact that actually, you had some downs as well as the ups. That's real. Travel is not just good times but a lot of shit too! the vast majority of travel videos on UA-cam are just highlight reels (wooo sick drone shots brah), so it's always cool you show things so honestly and give your real thoughts and opinions. It's something I take away and learnt from you and try to do as much as possible myself. Can't wait for your next trip wherever it's gunna be!
This is an underrated docu. I'd been binge watching travel vlogs for almost two weeks now about Philippines and I think they are missing out many facts you showed. That there are lot of spots u can visit but travelling from each place can be very inconvenient, exhausting and frustrating. There are spots that can be too crowdy and loud but the key is to enjoy. U have to be more open and sociable to other people. U can end up in places that may disappoint u or not how u imagine it when u heard it but if u'll keep on exploring u might also end up in beautiful places u didn't expect. Which I think is the essence of exploring. I also love how u converse w/ locals and joke and laughed w/ them. I love that part where u are exploring the cave and ur laugh was echoing. There are travel vloggers showering praises for the Philippines and show those drones shot. But not say on how realistic it is like how u showed it. Philippines is not really for vacationers. It's for the explorers. I also laughed how u saved the best two island for last then had no enough time to explore it. Hahahaha.
thanks for the video, James, Karl and the group, lovely and amazing to watch and nice to hear your thoughts about the Philippines islands tour and good advice with your travel experience

Tip from a local pinoy here... don't travel the philippines at around March,April or May.. those months are the peak summer season.. kinda like the spring break, if you hate crowds and long waits avoid those months.. based on my experience, travelling in January is probably the best.. lesser crowds and cooler weather.. and oh one more.. avoid going out on the weekends.. you'll regret it. I suggest you guys get out at around weekdays because that's what I tend to do when I travel ;)

This is the kind of traveler that we need to support and look up to! responsible, eye opener and a good influencer 🤟🏽
Thanks very much 😊👍
I’m from the Philippines and saw many vlogs about our country and this is one of my favorites. I love how you presented it including the delays in the airport, long bus, boat trips. Ahahaha..
i just virtually re-lived my trip to the philippines!
BoracayADMIRER yeah thank you
Yes. You're correct.
@@miketomvlogs1506 soo true
Please include in your next itinerary to visit south of Philippines..the Camiguin and Samal Island.
Definitely one of the bests travel vlog I've watched. The video was so genuine, no sugarcoating, very natural and good editing. It's true, Philippines is a one stop adventure destination, just name it you can have it.
Thanks :)
Gabriel Traveler go to the phippines from January to May it is DRY SEASON , APRIL AND MAY very hot in the Philippines...june to november expect rains and typhoons , december to february not too warm not too cold
for foreign visitors, i guess it's worthy to consider that april and may are
arguably the busiest tourism months in the philippines since it's summer and tons of filipinos travel and tour around the country during that time. it's best to probably avoid going there during the annual holy week break (w/c usually falls on april or early may) because the number of travelers on the roads, ports, and airports increase exponentially on those busy time frames
Gabriel Traveler choose the month to go there... like Dec, Jan or Feb
YOU GO THERE AT SUMMERTIME FEB TIL MAY
Follow Finn Snow. Better than le blanc.
#Eggzacklee!
Great advice, salamat!
Hi...is November a good time to go to the Philippines? How is the weather?
Late Dec to Jan is the best cooler weather. New Years in Boracay is insane! Will open late October 2018. Jan Sinulog in Cebu is fun street party.
@@ruipico its not good month November cause it's rainy season.. you wont see much
Congrats Karl on reaching 1,000,000 views! Well deserved!
Thanks 😊
Filipinos love to watch foreign vloggers in PH
@@joventopinio8076 I was wondering why this was the first one to reach 1 million views, all of Karl's video's are incredible but I was thinking it was gonna be the Africa or Egypt series to reach 1 million first.
@@joventopinio8076 Now it makes sense lol

Awesome video! It's really cool to see your perspective. I appreciate the end recommending a route with fewer flights if you're on a time constraint. I'm heading there soon so thanks for all the advice! And nice bit about the whale sharks.
I'm not sure what the visa regulations are there, but I'm thinking about staying there for a few months if I can.

Thanks very much 😊
Filipino are the most caring people in the world
paul Stewart they're caring, but they need more public restrooms for ppl with mud butts
Thank you 😊
@@alldayeveryday20able sorry to hear that...
Well said. The Land of Creation indeed.
This will be you most popular video of all time. I guarantee it! You ask why? Because it’s philippines!!
let them praise the Philippines, huwag naman masyadong mayabang.
Be humble kabayan.lol...
Hahahaha I know what you mean
Mae Ricci talaga?
Richmond Acosta. Thank you.
You have gained another subscriber :)
'From a Filipino transplanted in London' :)
This video/film will never grow old nor get stale. Epic 3 week trip. Amazing and authentic story-telling. Cheers!
Thanks 😊
Loved the documentary Karl. I definitely feel more confident about planning my trip to the Philippines now. Thanks for all the helpful advice and honest reviews.
I am Filipino and currently watching this. Cheers!!!
Amazing coverage of the Philippines brother. A bit of history, party and beautiful nature. I truly enjoyed this film. Thanks for sharing!
This video is just amazing! I was covinced right at the moment as you said you don´t use drone shots :)
I loved also that you comment your trip critically at the end and don´t say omg everything was so perfect like in other videos.
This is by far the most comprehensive travel guide I have seen on UA-cam about the Philippines,, Kudos to you,,
Very good documentary.
Cheers!
Thanks for all the inspiration Karl 😊
Sand bar in Camiguin is just jaw dropping breathtaking fantastic one walahh! It is also a must visit island in the Philippines.
Amazing video of philippines no annoying music and very organise story.
This country is amazing !
All countries have something to offer but once the poor and ugly sides are shown, then attraction to the beauty of a country ceases.
Philipinos are the most amazing people I had to pleasure to meet.Everywhere i only came across very humble caring hospitable people.Very warming to people in general. And genuine friendly....
Where are you from? 😀
I've seen a lot of travel videos on the Philippines - my country - and this was one of the most fun and engrossing. Thanks for sharing!
Such an epic adventure Karl! I just put out a Philippines travel vid myself from a lot of the same places & your vid makes mine look like peanuts comparatively. Keep at it my friend, I’m excited to see what’s coming next ✈️🌎

Hey Karl. Great documentary. Great shots. Love what you said at the end of the video on how you feel very welcomed by our hospitality. I really felt your sincerity and your genuine impression about the Philippines.
WOW! The narration, the scene, the music, and your voice gives me goosebumps! Definitely one of the best videos about the experience in the Philippines.
And, of course, your smile and your giggles - superb!
Great documentary. Personally i highly recommend a trip there, there's so much to do/see and culture is an eye opener. Love it!
Felt the same, 3 weeks looks as if it was just a few days of exploring and then tiring days in between.. I know for sure there are a lot more to see and I hope that the next time you go, you'll be able to get in the right groove and see more.
Yes!! Thats the video i was looking for, planned a short trip for two weeks around 3 islands, now just gonna stay at 1-2 and do more stuff in it! Thank you bruhha!!!!
Glad it was useful 😊

A D V i C E :
if you go here in Philippines , of course you will be welcomed like youre a part of the family .. but it doesnt mean you must trust anyone you meet .. sometimes you just have to be open minded .. not all people are good .. you must not trust a person 100% .. because in every good things theres bad things ! .. i saw and heard about foreigners being scamed , or beeing tricked ..
this vlog is very helpful its raw , no filter it shows the real beauty the real color of the nature the other side of the culture ,. and advice for the bagpackers ..
and wait : i heard it "ABODO" its actually "ADOBO" HAHAHA !!
and yes .. Choosy Dog exsits in philippines .. hahaha

I love your honest feedback. Traffic is really a problem in the Philippines.
Nice job on the video man! Looks like a blast. Looking for to my 2019 visit.
No worries man, hope Japan was good!

yes we are....the most caring people in the whole world, we are so generous...etc...more fun in the Philippines
To be so young and can party like that you’re awesome

Tip from a local pinoy here... don't travel the philippines at around March,April or May.. those months are the peak summer season.. kinda like the spring break, if you hate crowds and long waits avoid those months.. based on my experience, travelling in January is probably the best.. lesser crowds and cooler weather.. and oh one more.. avoid going out on the weekends.. you'll regret it. I suggest you guys get out at around weekdays because that's what I tend to do when I travel ;)
