You can hear the great energy that was present at this show.....chills up and down the spine even from this distance through time and space. I love 80's era Dead......what a time. Maybe we all had too much to fast....but it sure was worth it! Miss those days.
I had a stupendous audience tape of this show. My 85-86 collection is my favorite. There were so many great taping section and sbds from those two years in the tape trading world back then. I was trading with heads all over the country while buying ten packs of maxell xl-2 like they were candy bars.
Best 'Shakedown' I ever saw or heard - $11.00 at the door (booth) - perfect Sunday afternoon - we all rushed the seating area after set one - the tree on the hill is still there as per the pics I've seen of Merriweather Post - that's where I hung out before the show. O my, I was only 19 back in '85 - Does anyone remember the banner ? 25th anniversary of GD. The tapes all do this show justice and so does this taping.
I was 18, just came from the Hershey show. Great times! When we arrived The Luther Vandross show (RIP) was ending and I'll never forget the looks of the departing crowd as they drove through the hordes of newly arrived Deadheads playing hackysack and setting-up tents, it was great and quite hilarious!
Truly shows the guitar mastery of both Jerry and Bobby. Such great players. Doesn’t even matter that Garcia’s voice is shot here, the whole band is on fire
Yesss...One of those times I knew I had just experienced a definitive version of a favorite song-I compared all following Shakedowns to this for years! The build-up to the monster climax just kills!! The place exploded in unison:)
This has ALWAYS been my favorite shakedown, and this sounds ten times better than my really old cassette, thanks for posting Axe. you made the rest of my life much better! I've seen and heard them all, this IS the best one. Check out the Loser from Knickerbocker arena, March 1990, same deal,
I agree with the power and energy and excellence of the '85 shows. I said this and this guy totally dissed me with disagreement. So I am really happy you commented and share my same feelings. Thanks! I knew it wasn't me!
Whoever said that bs about 85, and I've heard it too, obviously has not listened to the shows enough to understand it is one of their best eras. The song lists, the level of performance and the willingness to stretch beyond the norm is quite evident in the spring, summer and fall of that year, and not to mention that great cackling of Phil's stacks really highlights the intense times!
THIS SHAKEDOWN IS QUITE POSSIBLE ONE OF THE TOP 7 SHAKEDOWNS EVER PLAYED. BOTH SHOWS AT MERRIWEATHER WERE BOTH WAY,WAY OFF THE HOOK TON"S OF ENERGY AND TONS OF GREAT DOPE AND THE SUMMER TOUR HOW COULD YOU GO WRONG? YEAH JERRY WAS NOT LOOKING GREAT BUT HE SURE WAS PLAYING GREAT. ALL THE SHOWS THEY DID IN "85 WERE PRETTY FREAKING GREAT AND THE CRYPTICAL ENVELOPMENT"S THAT MADE A SURPRISE APPEARANCE ALSO WORKED GREAT. MAN DO I MISS THESE GUY"S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My absolute favorite show!!
I was in the back of the pavillion seats, just about center to the stage. Phil's bass was moving my atoms around pretty hard...
I was up on the left, Phil's side. We spent the whole night singing this and 'poking around'
This gave all the learning of how universe is creating
We sat about 100 feet back to the left of the stage - great view
I know what you mean. It's like getting plugged in.

So true .
I'd do it all over, given the chance.
I remember this show. What a weekend it was - from Hershey Park to Merriweather 😊

Love that last build!
I have to agree, Merriweather was the highlight of that summer tour, a great tour indeed and my first!
Really the ultimate in no-nonsense Shakedowns. Bring it on home, Mr. Weir.
Best version I've heard sonically, too.

Absolutely one of the top 5 Shakedowns- this is my "Go To" for this song. Man, Merriweather was a freakin' awesome venue!!!
What others make up your top 5?
I was here.! From Va.. of course we only got a portion of what the W coast had but enjoyed every single show.
I know the Phil Zone.....Once at a show his sub sonic bass gave me a back adjustment
"They're not the best at what they do, they're the only ones who do what they do..."
Like the '85 Shakedown, this. '85 was great performances! Wanna 'see' this, thanks for uploading

when listening to shows, I always end up back in the summer/fall of 85

I was there... of the 45 (or so) shows I saw over the years, this was the very best.

We definitely 'had too much too fast' back then in '85 ... but it was - and still is a show to never forget!
Best version ever...
no no no - 12/31/84 ;-)
Jimmy Hawke absolutely hands down
Jimmy Hawke yup
I think this one's the best. I mean we're splitting hairs here. But my vote goes to Merriweather.
@@jcedwards8363 I've listened to that one too. This version is way better but that's my opinion.
Who else was there 35 years ago tonight?🙋🏻♂️
Yes I was . A story book
Ty
Don't look at the bears too long
Thanks for the warning. Looked away and theyre still there.
Awesome show
No sir, Hershey Park the highlight even tho it was pouring. No one went to Pittsburgh after but me lol
Quite possibly, the definitive version of "Shakedown Street". Definitely, how I always want to hear it! Bobby even gets to solo!
missing the "tune-up" leading into this (purely a soundboard phenom, ah do believe). it is MAD.
Seven is a pretty specific number. Sounds like you've made a list. I'd like to see it. Love Shakedown. Particularly the jam at the end.
Hey ran, got an extra mop, I've had this tape since around 1987.
this is a good song
Love the "Bobbbby ... Bobbbbby" at he top!
Forever grateful
nice '85 hard rockin dead, lovee it!
Smokin!!!!!!
bobby plays some wild shit on this one around 9:00 mark
To me... It is what starts the greatness of the of the whole jam
Time machine, take me back!
