I was at this run of Hampton shows (3/26-3/28). Best set of shows I ever saw the Boys play. Great arena. Only 12,000 capacity, best acoustics of any indoor venue I've been to, and by then Hampton Coliseum was the last general admission venue the Dead played on the East coast. They loved playing Hampton, and Hampton loved hosting them. I recall trying to find a hotel for me and my friends. When I inquired at one place about vacancy the gal replied, "We're all booked up that weekend! The Grateful Dead are coming to town and we're proud of it!" Good times.

This was such an uplifting show. I was right up in front, no more than 15 feet away from center stage, and seeing Jerry really loving being there was amazing. I was also at the last show (I believe) before his abscessed tooth - at Giants Stadium, I think. A Satisfaction encore. Anyway, the return was fantastic. I loved my time as a "Deadhead". He is the reason I started playing the guitar.
No one ever gets off the bus, its a lifelong addiction. We are just blessed at this incredible catalogue of concerts available to us right at our fingertips. There is always a new show you've never heard before that will blow your hair back. Remember the Memorex commercial? Is it live, or is it Dead?
@@mjbachman3027 wheres the competition? Why does it matter. You can take this conversation to infinity. Prince and Frank Zappa were better guitarists than Jerry and Duane. They are all legendary. But fuck Jimmy Page...
I was a taper I saw 181 shows between 1980 and 1995 still have my Nakamichi shotgun microphones and my Sony D5. I did eventually move to digital I can’t get enough of this music
Steven Tracy I think he means by “gets it” that the younger generation understands this cool shit and is open to new ideas. Maybe he’s not meaning it in a negative way :)
I’ve heard the Scarlet-Fire couplet countless times since I got on the bus in 83. Yet whenever I hear what Jerry does on an unheard version it’s fresh and new. Amazing.
Long live the Grateful Dead! I was only 6 years old when Jerry passed but been listening my whole life. Much love everyone and thanks for keeping this alive✌
" I was so much older than. Im younger than that now" Really thought humanity would have evolved much better than it has by now. We really gave them good direction, but Gerry would trip at the state of our Earth now. The music will last forever!❤
i am listening , but i live in Texas far from any city and we are free to roam as we please . i roamed out to a field this morning and picked some shrooms , now i'm listening to the DEAD......
This has got to be one of the best Sugar Magnolia ending jam versions ever! It just exudes energy! It literally just builds and builds. This version is Wicked-Pissa! Only you fellow Bostonians who grew up during the 1960's - 1970's know what I mean by that (lol) The riffs are unbelievable!
JG is & will always be a master at guitar, almost breathtaking & as mentioned below, he never seems to get that total recognition that he deserves. He does get it from a lot of circles but damn he is good!
I saw them in December of '92 in Tempe Arizona. They did a Scarlet/Fire going into Fire just as the sun was setting on the mountains in the background. It was simply magical, I'll never forget it.
I was at this one and it was an amazing show. Some of the best times of my life were at these shows! I always made a pilgrimage from Chville no matter if I had to walk or crawl. Love the DEAD!
A couple of years ago I was in the depths of a terrifying experience, until this came on. It was on my birthday and when I saw the date I felt totally reborn. What followed was a beautiful exploration of ideas and music all night long. Grateful.
Jer continues to play in my body, heart, mind, and soul. As someone else noted, when Jerry engages with Bobby and the boys instead of being in his own mind, GREATNESS happens.
My favorite part is listening to the crowd recognize which song was coming, not everyone does at once, and roar in excitement. I remember that feeling well.
My first show was 88 Cal expo Sacramento California. I'm from San Rafael Marin county San Francisco. We are similar age. Tucson Arizona Sonoran desert 🏜️🌵 yes I keep on keeping on 🍄🍄🍄🌍🔥
There really is no one like them. If they saved your life, please try and listen to them every day. Happy New Year! Who else do you think could save your life?
I’m 66 and am able to share my love of The Dead with my 33 year old daughter, she heard them from the time she was born. My first live show was at Santa Barbara and I was hooked! Saw them with Dylan at Anaheim Stadium… phenomenal show
So amazing the energy between the crowd and the band. Every time the crowd erupted the boys just turned up the juice even more. It felt like a volcano was just about to blow! This rivals 5/8/77, but it’s like they’ve matured and truly mastered what they do. It’s true, we are incredibly lucky to have access to so many shows, so much has been recorded on apps like Relisten. We could listen for the rest of our lives(and I will) and still you won’t hear the same Jerry solos no matter how hard you try. How TF did he do it?
This concert still give me chills 32 years later. Damn I miss Jerry! Thank you Grateful Dead for making such amazing and inspring music, and thanks to LessThanFace Productions for sharing this with the World!!
I count four Leslies just in this view. When I saw them in Austin at Manor Downs in ‘85, Brent had a similar number. First time Id ever seen that many in one place! I was 18 so that was incredible to me. I love Hammond.
Wen I was in my early 20's in the late 80s and the dead would come to New York and play 5 shows at the garden and 5 more at the meadowlands and my friends and I would see a bunch of shows, the experience was beyond awesome. Somehow this group inspired a culture of community that cant be reproduced. A lot of great jam bands out there but I dont think anyone can replace the dead for the culture they created.
I was at that show and it rocks as hard here as I remembered it. It builds kind of steadily but by the time they get to Fire, Garcia is rocking his ass off. Jerry always rocked a little bit harder for the VA tribe. The Hampton and Richmond shows in the 80's just rocked like this all the time.
It's always a good morning when ya wake up with these guys playing...kinda makes it feel sunny Even though it's 11 degrees out and dark.. LoL 😀 thanks!
I saw the grateful Dead at the saenger theater in New Orleans and they played two nights in a row 6 hours at night! It was the best concert I have ever been to. They came out playing Trucking! And everybody was dancing and twirling around smiling we all had a great time! God bless you Greg for taking me!❤❤❤😊✌️🤗🎶🎹🎸:🎼🎵😊😮☺️❤️🙏❤️✌️✌️✌️🎶💯
It was the crowd going off on the line, "Waits backstage while I sing to you!" that set this off imho. You saw Jerry smile, Brent picked it up a notch and the whole thing was elevated. Perfect example of how the band fed off the crowd and vice-versa.
I literally just stumbled onto this - and I was there on the floor. Jerry gave me a nod and sang Peggy-O for me. My boyfriend nearly lost it- I.had made him listen to a crappy tape of. Peggy-O incessantly! “The Omnipotent GratefulDead!”😉❣️
Check out a fantastic "To Lay Me Down" from the same show!

I was also at the last show (I believe) before his abscessed tooth - at Giants Stadium, I think. A Satisfaction encore. Anyway, the return was fantastic. I loved my time as a "Deadhead". He is the reason I started playing the guitar.
Went to many shows since 1972
They were the best so I love seeing these old shows !!!
I enjoyed this so much I'm going to hear it again and keep reading the comments. What a tremendous Scarlet 🔥 . This band is a National Treasure.
I never get tired of listening to Garcia. What style!
No one ever gets off the bus, its a lifelong addiction. We are just blessed at this incredible catalogue of concerts available to us right at our fingertips. There is always a new show you've never heard before that will blow your hair back. Remember the Memorex commercial? Is it live, or is it Dead?
been listening for over 50 years and he sound fine every time
Most underrated guitar player ever.
Yes, the energy of this whole scene is insane. Oh my goodness.
Rock on boys.
I'm insane I Man have jerrymylitus
Jerry Garcia was the King of never running out of a lick! We still miss you Jerr Bear!
Yes, we still love you!!
Duane Allman was 10x better than Garcia
@@mjbachman3027 wheres the competition? Why does it matter. You can take this conversation to infinity. Prince and Frank Zappa were better guitarists than Jerry and Duane. They are all legendary. But fuck Jimmy Page...
This is friggin great. These dudes just crush it. There are so few bands that can transition like them and jam out at will.
I was a taper I saw 181 shows between 1980 and 1995 still have my Nakamichi shotgun microphones and my Sony D5. I did eventually move to digital I can’t get enough of this music
Came here for sugar magnolia and stayed for the whole show. Perfect
Same here, LOL! Probably gonna crunk it up and listen to the dead all night!

Jerry was from another planet ❤🎉 They broke the mold when they made Jerry. His guitar playing will be heared through the cosmos for eons.
It's so nice that the young generation gets it. Life is good when you have jerry and the boys in your ears... Keep on trucking.
Excuse me but you're wrong the younger generation doesn't get anything you fucking dummy.
Steven Tracy im 16 and i basically worship the dead! so think before you speak! also no need to be rude, all the dead wanted to do was spread love ❤️
Steven Tracy I think he means by “gets it” that the younger generation understands this cool shit and is open to new ideas. Maybe he’s not meaning it in a negative way :)
@@Thresholdmoment I'm 21 and I think I get it. Are you in pain, friend?

I was in school at W&M '86-'90, caught some GLORIOUS shows at Hampton!!! Yeah, this one ripped alright!
I’ve heard the Scarlet-Fire couplet countless times since I got on the bus in 83. Yet whenever I hear what Jerry does on an unheard version it’s fresh and new. Amazing.
In this time of uncertainty, I am thanking god 4 the grateful dead.
Long live the Grateful Dead! I was only 6 years old when Jerry passed but been listening my whole life. Much love everyone and thanks for keeping this alive✌
" I was so much older than. Im younger than that now"
Really thought humanity would have evolved much better than it has by now. We really gave them good direction, but Gerry would trip at the state of our Earth now.
The music will last forever!❤
Keep playing after you
Settle down where you are NOW (Jerry &I)were the Perfect match! I can only WISH Naomi Radtke
if you're stuck at home, I hope you're listening to this :)
i am listening , but i live in Texas far from any city and we are free to roam as we please . i roamed out to a field this morning and picked some shrooms , now i'm listening to the DEAD......
Had a stealie cap on in Walmart today, old dude comes up and says I'm with you if it gets worse. 🤪
I am, it's great stuff!
I sure will
I am brother. Oh yes, I am! Fuckin dynamite. Heres why... Im to pat to open and to cool to bluff. Im just doing what everyone should. Listening
Dude it is friggin wicked pissa!

So happy I had the chance to see them!
Change my life for sure!😊
Tonight I'm going to fall asleep with a smile on my face playing this over and over in my head.
JG is & will always be a master at guitar, almost breathtaking & as mentioned below, he never seems to get that total recognition that he deserves. He does get it from a lot of circles but damn he is good!
Good times the 80’s were a lot of fun!! Thank you very much!!🎉
Jerry really shows his talent on those last two. Wow. Such an original voice.
I saw them in December of '92 in Tempe Arizona. They did a Scarlet/Fire going into Fire just as the sun was setting on the mountains in the background. It was simply magical, I'll never forget it.
my very first Dead Show. i miss the shows & the freedom that came with it.
I was at this one and it was an amazing show. Some of the best times of my life were at these shows! I always made a pilgrimage from Chville no matter if I had to walk or crawl. Love the DEAD!
Imagine being born after this show 🤩🫡
It's all about chemistry. These musicians working together a perfect harmony. Makes fans stay fans a family forever.

Born in the desert will do it. 40 days and 40 nights. Biochemistry. Have you figured out the secret(ion) yet? Don't blow it.
Grateful Dead fan since '83, they have saved my soul on countles occasions, tonight included.
Oh, man, any show when Jerry was looking over at the other guys and smiling during songs you knew it was gonna be hot.
My God I miss that fat man.

A couple of years ago I was in the depths of a terrifying experience, until this came on. It was on my birthday and when I saw the date I felt totally reborn. What followed was a beautiful exploration of ideas and music all night long. Grateful.
Make America Grateful Again
The Best Experience.
Jer continues to play in my body, heart, mind, and soul. As someone else noted, when Jerry engages with Bobby and the boys instead of being in his own mind, GREATNESS happens.
Why do I always get chills when Fire on the Mountain starts up. Ya know its coming..... THANK YOU JERRY!!!!!!!!
right!!??
You mentioned it and chill bumps started on me 😊 their shows I will forever miss.....no better vibe anywhere ever!
Wow. This still rips so hard. Miss this kinda evening with The Grateful Dead.
My favorite part is listening to the crowd recognize which song was coming, not everyone does at once, and roar in excitement. I remember that feeling well.
I remember ❤😊
Gotta love Jerry jumping in on "she can dance a Cajun rhythm"! Smiling eyes [of the world]!
my 1st show was 11/04/1977, and the dead are pretty much all i listen to. the music makes me feel so happy! love the dead! rip jerry & phil!
Many years later I feel pretty blessed to have been 18 when this tour started, between '88 and '94 went to 60 plus shows......
My first show was 88 Cal expo Sacramento California. I'm from San Rafael Marin county San Francisco. We are similar age. Tucson Arizona Sonoran desert 🏜️🌵 yes I keep on keeping on 🍄🍄🍄🌍🔥
the grateful dead saved my life again today
peace brother
@Long duk dong Happy Holidays to you Dong, from Less Than Face Productions.
cool, keep listening & stay strong; they saved me too, today included, it's been a rough patch lately but the GD help so much.
There really is no one like them. If they saved your life, please try and listen to them every day. Happy New Year! Who else do you think could save your life?
that's the best part of the dead. They are more than music, they are soul moving. May the four winds blow you safely home, and peace n love!
I’m 66 and am able to share my love of The Dead with my 33 year old daughter, she heard them from the time she was born. My first live show was at Santa Barbara and I was hooked! Saw them with Dylan at Anaheim Stadium… phenomenal show
Amazing how they could just segue from one tune to the next without stopping resulting in a non-stop 30 minute set.
Man this is golden --- So great to see Jerry really enjoying himself and digging in a bit --- Much needed tonight !!!
He was in a great mood on this night. I swear both feet left the ground for a moment.
Love and positivity ran through the building…I’ll never forget it ❤❤🎉🎶🎶🎶💃🦋
So amazing the energy between the crowd and the band.
I saw this same three song combo New Years Eve 84/85, the music really is timeless.
Wow...Man this made me cry. So well done. The ending was so cool. The Dead are never forgotten.
I can’t never get enough of them especially Jerry who I have loved still to this day of December 17 , 2023 ! 🥰😘😍🌹🐰🐇🥀
Good lord, Jerry absolutely shredding during that FOTM was worth it alone.. wow.
I was at this show. It was a life altering experience. They were telepathically communicating w me. Unreal.
A lot of great jam bands out there but I dont think
anyone can replace the dead for the culture they created.
U r so rite my dear because the Gratefuldead were very cosmic + I think telepathic also ! They knew what was coming !
You missed the 12 day runs at the garden 🤔
I attended several east coast shows, and a trifecta in Chicago. SPRING, April '88 was HOT
The Grateful Dead changed my life.
Indeed! The person who went into that first show was not the same person who came out

🌹These days! This era with the band will forever be my favorite!
👣 Singing and dancing away 👣
It was the crowd going off on the line, "Waits backstage while I sing to you!" that set this off imho. You saw Jerry smile, Brent picked it up a notch and the whole thing was elevated. Perfect example of how the band fed off the crowd and vice-versa.
Just wow. This is 100% GD all the way. Jerry and all of them on fire! Really one of the best live vids I've seen.
Man,this is great. Super cool.
