Unbroken Chain (in HD) performed by Furthur at TRI Studios on 6/7/2011
This is one of the best songs EVER WRITTEN !!!
Totally agree
It is.
❤️ PHIL ❤️
It's hard to place Dead songs into a " top 10 or 20 or even 30"- list.
That being said, this is w out a doubt, the absolute best song the Dead ever made ❤
Si una gran viaje es
Listened for the secret, Searched for the sound, and found The Grateful Dead. God Bless You and Thank You
I love The Jeff Chimenti Band.
"Unbroken Chain" is a really special song, and this is a great version of it.
This song reaches my soul in a time when we really need music. God speed this pandemic
I've listened/watched this more than a few times in the past 5-6 years and I still find it superb. This is a wonderful arrangement of Phil's song. Great musicianship. Joe Russo is an amazingly sensitive trapsman. Phil is presently 81, if I remember rightly, and I'm sure his bass playing has not suffered. Bobby is still doing what Bob does best. John Kalecik is an incredible guitar player. Jeff, as ever, is more than competent.
Best post-Garcia band ever.
I think they got beat sir.
PLQ.
The Q
I wouldn't mind if it was Rob on keys, instead, and either JK or Kimock would do on guitar. I'm not sure if there was an incarnation I didn't like....
So I think I now understand the concept of "heavy air".
Thanks, Phil!!
Downright crafty! Best version I have ever heard
This is absolutely unreal !! The players, here in this lineup, are placed perfectly for a very special harmonious blend of music.
Robert Peterson wrote the lyrics to this incredible song. He wrote Pride of Cucamonga as well as Revolutionary Hamstrung Blues and New Potato Caboose.
That keyboard and lead guitar REALLY do this song justice. A good well-rehearsed extended, and coherent effort. Great job.
Meh on the keyboard... too outside for such a sweet song. I feel like Rob was better for this jam, he brought more of that sweetness. But Phil seems to really enjoy playing this version here, so who am I to say otherwise. The transitions from the unison section to the walk down chords has a higher floor but lower ceiling in this version. I'll usually prefer a lower floor, but with the potential for a higher ceiling, if that makes sense?
@@GizzyDillespeecritics. Jeesh.
5:06... that entrance... damn, shivers...
Phil pushing the voice works so well here. Kind of beautifully weary
Elevator music as one ascends to the heavens
Well said!
Truly uplifting.
Absolute killer version of my favorite song of all time!
This is a great song..beautiful melody..reaches right to your heart❤
John’s guitar near the end has the Jerome tone. It shows how much tone and timbre add to the appeal.
i love it when phil sings phil songs. and when bob sings bob songs
Bobby and Phil fan right here bud
Sink like a stone flooooat like a feather!! Phil's vocals on this were so sweet
Thank you Phil and Bob for passing the 🔥 along...
Phil's voice is at my personal favorite stage here -- nicely burnished, mature, beautiful. A phenomenal song, one of a kind.
Ever since I First Listened to The Grateful Dead and The Dead and Lesh and Firends, I Have been stuck in the PHILZONE!
Why does it seem that every Grateful Dead tune played without Jerry is a tribute to him? And why do I still cry all these years later?
They are , and he enjoys every moment.
✌💀👍🎸🎼🎵🎶🇺🇸
Phil sure does age like a fine wine!
few things in life give me as much joy as Phil, Bobby, John and the rest of the band looking at each other and giving the "this is freaking awesome!" look, pure ecstasy! No one does it better.
I can't believe I found this. I'm so happy. Thank you phil. Love you.❤ My heart soars!
Matt the drums are just sensational. They're so essential to this song too❤
Trainwreck at about 10m18s and Phil's reaction is to laugh. 😂
"As Mr. Rhythm Man once said, "Its close enough to be jazz".
Loving that sweet T.R.I. sound:) tear it up jazzy Jeff
phil lesh is a beautiful human being.
Im surprised Jill Lesh let John K wear that tie dye
Nice job John K. THANKS PAIRDOC
That was the most beautiful music I've ever heard.
They did right on this one.
What a version
This performance is killer ❤
Saw Phil do this with the Dead 2X in Philadelphia and East Rutherford in 1995. One of the best and favorite songs ever. Saw Furthur do it in Wantagh in 2011 with my youngest son. Have audio of it on phone. Phil and Friends set list for Central Park on 5/28/2014 contains it. Always pleasure to hear.
for real dude this jam is madness!
Brings me to tears... what a beaut
Wow, " the Jeff Chemeti Band". . He is on ,.. very grateful for this rendition.
This is my favorite version of this song, the studio version has that high pitched white noise that i have no idea why they thought it was a good choice to add, the '95 versions were just bad. This one has it all, really dig Joe Russo's drums
I love that high whine of bells they put in there. Once, on an early September afternoon around 1993, I actually started hearing that sound. Not on anything, completely sober. I caught myself listening to it before I realized where I'd heard it and was blown away.
Heard it two more times that afternoon and that was that. Not saying it's something, but it ain't nothing, either. Dig?
#tinnitus
They were trying to recreate the effect of doing a nitrous hit. That's what that sound is all about.
Sounds like a jet engine.
This is fantastic. Phil is the man.
Love this whole session! Incredible. Really beautiful and powerful rendition of the piece here. Thanks!
ThanXXX Bobby Peterson, & Phil Lesh!!
Though for me he could not in a million years replace Jerry Garcia, John Kalecik is an incredible guitar player and fits into the Furthur place really well.
"Furthur" will never replace a non-renewable resource such as Jerry. They're great at reducing, reusing and recycling just fine.
Don't forget that drummer!!!!
Who could??
Joe Russo's got his stuff down!
Such a magnificent song.
Love the look between Phil and Joe at the beginning of the breakdown.
WOW... awesome sound, even on the laptop, thank you for sharing.
So sweet!
No words to explain how i feel listening to that Dead's song. God bless you guys. Been listening to it so much times. In the 70's round 75 when i first listened to it, i fell in love with that tune. Thanks for that great post reviving GD soul.
Way back when tappers were using audio cassettes, we bought albums/records and this was on FROM THE MARS HOTEL which was the type of record you'd play over and over and over again. So glad Furthur is playing Unbroken Chain and Phil is singing...Phil is the bomb at 71!...well, almost 71!
thank God for UA-cam!
Somehow, I don't think "God" had anything to do with UA-cam...
It just drives me crazy when I hear John K go into his big killer jam and the camera is on Phil and Bob!!
Bringing new life to this masterpiece of Phil, done his tops on this here. Woah!
Really nice! Musician friends if you read this: Notice how each player complements the others and the song as a whole. @pairdoc, Thanks for posting this!
I had to see and feel this one live before I got it....since then it's near the top of the list
So good
one of the most beautiful & moving grateful dead songs for me,
grace... what humble, beautiful grace...
luv phil, luv the song, luv the band
grace is beautiful
Frank Zappa would have loved this. This is one of my all-time favorite tunes, so beautiful, like most of Mars Hotel.
Good lord. Hell yes, guys.
you are 100 percent correct! we will survive, just like phil!
So freaking good.
Awesome... as good as it gets!
excellent musicianship! love this jazz version. Jerry would have liked this a lot.
Thanks Phil!
Joe Russo - You blow my mind every time! Absolutely incredible.
Magnificent
Blue light rain
Whoa, unbroken chain
Looking for familiar faces
In an empty window pane
Listening for the secret
Searching for the sound
But I could only hear the preacher
And the baying of his hounds
Willow sky
Whoa, I walk and wonder why
They say love your brother
But you will catch it when you try
Roll you down the line boy
Drop you for a loss
Ride you out on a cold railroad
And nail you to a cross
November and more
As I wait for the score
They're telling me forgiveness
Is the key to every door
A slow winder day
A night like forever
Sink like a stone
Float like a feather
Lilac rain, unbroken chain
Song of the saw-whet owl
Out on the mountain, it'll drive you insane
Listening to the winds howl
Unbroken chain of sorrow and pearls
Unbroken chain of sky and sea
Unbroken chain of the western wind
Unbroken chain of you and me
Beautiful. Wish they would have kept this lineup going. I was checked out during those years and never got to see them.
Beautiful
This was my White Whale! Until Sunday Oct 2 at red rocks!

What a great version of this great song. Thanks for Posting.
when the music is hot
After Bobby closed RATDOG I could never go FURTHUR. Though a total sweet version and Jam Miss you Jer and Mark Karan at the helm and the post Dead renditions.
I pretty much listen only to hip hop, but this song stuns me.
Listen to more Dead and spinoffs such as JRAD. You will be further stunned.

Holy cow! This is/was gorgeous!! That Jeff Chimenti is really a badass.

Best posting I've seen in quite a time.
Brad
beaUUUUUUUUUtiful!
"Dziadki", a wciąż grają najlepiej. Inni powinni chodzić na kursy, aby nauczyć się jak komponować i grać. Ten utwór jest wspaniały - jeden z najlepszych jakie stworzyła muzyka rockowa. Mogę go słuchać dosłownie na okrągło.
Grate...
Go Jeff!!
6:12 on, what a great moment. It seems like Phil says "watch this"
a+
Shredding the rare stuff, indeed...
Transcends all dimensions. Intergalactic song of the millenium!
Amazing piece of work. Hard to pick a standout player, all are HOT here!
this is their warm up for the one the unleashed on red rocks that summer and its probably the best version of it ever preformed in my opinion check it out
