Thank you for the chance to look through the "window pane" and catch a glimpse of the beautiful times had at Winterland experiencing the Dead. Beutiful!
The thing that I love the most about The Dead is that I know all the songs, but I can listen to the same songs and they are always a little bit different each time. Familiarity with the excitement of something new and unexpected. Nobody else has ever quite managed to pull that off so well.
The sound and camera work throughout the song are phenomenal; everyone associated with this band loved them and the music they made, the official live video of Scarlet Begonias captures the joy for all to see.
Was there for 3 of the 5 shows, hardly remember. Only one thing- went for a breath in the hall, looked out a 2nd story window. Winterland was in a rundown area, no huge grounds. A homeowner across the street sitting on his stoop, catching another show from the porch. What a warm feeling.😌
Some colleagues of mine worked on the animation for the movie... they said it was really fun when Jerry would drop in and check out their work. He never gave feedback, just loved everything they were doing. Let their creativity fly totally free
Ahh, 1974, the year I finally saw the Dead, I bought tickets in December 1968, but the Promoter was fake & then I got tickets for the weekend of my 18th birthday in 73, but that show got canceled. In May of 1974, my Bay Area cousins came down and we had a family picnic & of course a bunch of us cousins snuck up to the bushes to smoke my uncles pot & my cousins invited me up in a month to go to see New Riders Of The Purple Sage & The Grateful Dead!! What a show, and a year later I moved to the Bay Area, and saw them constantly, as well as seeing JGB in Berkeley at the Keystone. Yay!!
I used to love when Jerry and Phill would go 1 on 1. The music was fantastic. Tommy from Chicago. I'm 60 years old and I saw the Grateful Dead live. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Hugely underrated. He had a ridiculously keen sense of improvisational melody, in so many flavors. Like the greatest jazz musicians. Jerry packed more tasty fretboard turns in one damn song, from one damn concert, than most guitarists ever come close to laying down. An absolute icon.
While I saw the dead a bunch of times during the '80s and '90s I didn't really appreciate them the way I do now... Of course those Alpine valley Wisconsin weekends are kind of hard to remember 😁
I agree, Jerry looked great! He also sounded amazing. I am crying because of his tragic death. He lived everyone and wanted to share his music with the world. Always love you Jerry

Such a different feel without Hart
@@MrJimyjaymes I prefer Billy alone, much more subtlety and swing to his playing.
@@jakollee Couldn't agree more. Personally, I think the GD were at their best with 1 drummer (Kreutzmann).
Mickey was mostly a percussionist, with Bill keeping steady time.
I like the standalone versions of Scarlet Begonias, pre-1977. It's a delicate offering.
Phil and Jerry jamming together again ❤RIP to one of the greatest to touch a bass
My very first GD concert. Forever grateful to my big brother. Traveled south from Santa Rosa in his VW bus -- how apropos...
Santa Rosa NM?
@@monsevelarde7272 I think he is referring to Santa Rosa Ca. It's about an hour north of San Francisco. ✌
My buddies and I used to catch the Golden Gate Transit on Mendocino Ave. and take it down. If we didn't get back to Lombard St. in time after a show, we had to spend the night in the Doggie Diner!
I wanna know who the fuck shot this! This is from 1974! I wouldn't believe it but Jerry still has dark hair and Donna is singing. Absolutely unreal video of an unreal band! Thanks to whoever shot and most likely restored/cleaned up
This is the Grateful Dead movie. Released in theaters in 1976. Are you unaware?
Jerry was so young and full of life.
Jerry at his best and healthy.
We all were
@@bubblebryan of course they did and you know this how ?
1971 to 1979. Best years
@@bubblebryan and how do you know the CIA killed him with acid ? What reason do you have for thinking the cia was responsible for his death and what possible reason did they have
Gotta say, this is one of the best performances of Scarlett Big
All the aspects of this song are fine, but in my view Jerry’s guitar work on the original recording is one of best ever written anywhere, by anyone. That is why this song is so great.
Even with the lyric flub
I was at these shows - all of them. If the boys were in town - what were you gonna do - stay home and watch TV?
Haha! When they pulled into my hometown, my whole damn high school showed up! And this was in the 90's!
In 1983 (?) , I was ready! Had permission ,( I WAS under age) the money, and ways back! Gerry had that stroke,
: (
I saw 1 show when I was 15. Jerry’s last performance at Giants stadium. A lot of people say he sang horrible those nights but I’m super grateful I got to see my favorite band live at least once.
At least not till Pay pre view. To this day, I’d prefer to just walk around the arena, sans ticket, Then have front row seats to any other concert...Well, at least until my world truly came into being, and I heard Janes Addiction. Jane stinks, she needs to take a shower.
I was only 4 days old when they did this show. When I was an adolescent I used to wear Grateful Dead t-shirts that I bought at a flea market because I thought the skeletons looked cool. When I was in college and into grunge, thought they were boring AF. Then many years later, I came to the light. ;)
No one can really understand the dead if they didn't see them live it was just like they say a long strange trip and it never ends
Some of Jerry's best playing ever so sublime and understated just beautiful
Jerry Garcia will always live in the hearts of all Dead Heads. Then, now and eternally fond of the band
As we all get Older in the way, of Dead and Company, we must remember Jerry Garcia's been recorded more than any other artist which means that there is 500 thousands ton of steal your face music put there at your fingertips. GD4Ever thanks for reading JD. RIP my best friend Steve Woods.
I freaking adore our tribe. We miss u large Jerry and Robert..Suddenly there was community of folks that were nice to each other, that weren't afraid to dance alone... Bobby and Phil filling in the blanks and still filling them in there are Donna nos.. I say Donna was exactly when and where she was needed.. two yes two amazing drummers.. think of all the amazing keyboard players..we will nvr forget Pigpen.,. Pigpen we don't forget
The wonderfully Grateful Dead. After a long days work, it's the dead I seek to relieve me from my worldly troubles.
Bobby, Phil, Bill, Donna, Keith.... I learned happiness from this
These shows were supposed to be the last shows the Dead were ever going to do. That's why I went to the show on 10/16. It was Bobby's birthday. They cut his birthday cake on stage. Winterland. Ahhhhh yeah, Winterland.
probably some good icing on that cake
Winterland...home sweet home!
Why were these supposed to be the last shows?
Sometimes the memories actually hurt...
That was my first girlfriend's birthday... (although she was a bit younger... =- )
Thank you for the chance to look through the "window pane" and catch a glimpse of the beautiful times had at Winterland experiencing the Dead. Beutiful!
I attended a few GD concerts and could stand for three hours cause I didn't feel my legs get tired but my heart renewed.
I love your pfp!
Jerry trying to coax her to let go! I love this experience. The Dead in a trance of cords. Beautiful. ❤
Just amazing, the dead, the greatest band ever
The thing that I love the most about The Dead is that I know all the songs, but I can listen to the same songs and they are always a little bit different each time. Familiarity with the excitement of something new and unexpected. Nobody else has ever quite managed to pull that off so well.
I’ve seen this many times for many years . I love it never wears me out
Keep ❤️trucking on
Walking around NYC. This too!!!!
Grateful from England..!!🙏💖✨👌🎶
The sound and camera work throughout the song are phenomenal; everyone associated with this band loved them and the music they made, the official live video of Scarlet Begonias captures the joy for all to see.
Love everyone smiling at the end when they come back together from the jam!
Truly the Leader of the HEART of GOLD BAND.... RIP JERRY, and J. P. Hagen. Nicest guys I ever met. Least I forget Skip Batten in this category.
Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right
Was looking for it. Found it.
2:01 Gosh so good had to listen tO it twice
This is astonishing. Absolutely gobsmacked by the record of the band's interplay. Thank you!
It's really neat to see an extended jam of Scarlet that isn't cut in half by Fire, as awesome as that is.
This is my favorite one, nice to see Donna take the lead for once, and it ended up being one of the best parts of the show
I don’t know I’m itching for fire. Almost seems Jerry wrote it to follow Scarlet
The intricate polyrhythmic groove blows my mind.
hahahahahahahahaa
Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right!☮️⚡️🌹💀
That is one of my favorite lyrics of all time by any artist!!
@@Bearhasmusic I’m with you on that one! Robert Hunter is something else man!

Thanks for preserving the real magic
In the Dead world the moment was tantamount, the artifact not so much.
Some colleagues of mine worked on the animation for the movie... they said it was really fun when Jerry would drop in and check out their work. He never gave feedback, just loved everything they were doing. Let their creativity fly totally free
My mom left me for Jerry and the dead through the mid 80s until the end 😆
The Wall of Sound sound system was phucking incredible...saw 3 shows with them playing thru it.
Unforgettable experience! 😊
I started going to shows in the mid-80s and completely missed this era. I never really understood the Donna thing. Now I do. Thank you.
Keith's piano playing was amazing as well . . . by far their best.
Yay!!
Billy's just bushwaken through this,, jerry picking perfect notes, I miss the big Stealie on Keith's piano, Donna's killing it,,,
The dead changed my life for the better ❤❤❤ nothing but love here
I was looking up this exact performance and it’s posted 6 hrs ago by the official dead channel
Yup. Uber cool!
Wolf is such an amazing guitar. The tone and the sounds Jerry made with it. This version is so perfect.
There are some bands that no-one can imitate but that I hope a bunch of kids in 2021 can get inspired by and do somehing that is as original.
I used to love when Jerry and Phill would go 1 on 1. The music was fantastic. Tommy from Chicago. I'm 60 years old and I saw the Grateful Dead live. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
What a smile on Donna Jean!
Being a heavy metal guiratist, Garcias solos are out of this world
Jerry was such a brilliant guitarist...
Hugely underrated. He had a ridiculously keen sense of improvisational melody, in so many flavors. Like the greatest jazz musicians. Jerry packed more tasty fretboard turns in one damn song, from one damn concert, than most guitarists ever come close to laying down. An absolute icon.
Good yes, but to self serving and to self absorbed. He just couldn't tear it up like many great guitarists.
Great banjo player as well..
This statement here. Unbelievable licks. And in real-time improv
While I saw the dead a bunch of times during the '80s and '90s I didn't really appreciate them the way I do now... Of course those Alpine valley Wisconsin weekends are kind of hard to remember 😁
THE BEST THING I EVER HEARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE GRATEFUL DEAD FOR ETERNITY
Amazing! Absolute masterpiece and so many pure and magical moments in the mix. Much love.
Love the 70s Dead
Jerry's voice was awesome
Amd his personality was just as awesome
RIP JG
I agree, Jerry looked great! He also sounded amazing. I am crying because of his tragic death. He lived everyone and wanted to share his music with the world. Always love you Jerry
I loved this song when I was little. Now I've rediscovered it this year and it's bringing back some great memories!
Damn this tune brought back some great memories…I had a flash back to a very and carefree exciting part of my life. ❤️
Mmm 74... I remember my first time hearing the lyrics. "The sky was yellow and the sun was blue"

A very fine rendition of a Grateful Dead classic… One of countless songs of theirs I like to play. Really enjoyed the Jerry and Donna sparring on this…
DAMN! Donna's lookin' GOOOOOOOD here!
