      @aidangonzales8212 5 років тому +22

      lordkandar They don’t speak ill of each other. Both of them have chalked it up to creative differences and said that they still get along as friends perfectly well, but I think people assume they’re on bad terms because Freddie and Brandon seem to have not interacted or done anything with one another in the many years since they split.

    when Freddie said that youtube has solidified as a personality cult medium it really struck a nerve with me. i've sort of grown up with youtube and i guess thats why, but thats also why i feel that as of late theres no content on youtube, like the last year or two.

      Any long form content that takes more than double the time to edit than air is not economically viable. They adjusted the pay outs a few times and the only viable content is either cultural phenomenons like hot ones or talking heads or something kids like.

    • @ChronicalV
      @ChronicalV 4 роки тому

      im late but freddie really puts into words and articulate a lot of things I've been thinking about, especially how the landscape of youtube has changed so much in a way to a consumable, "fast-food"-esque production line. Quality content takes longer to make, and the payout is just not enough for it to be sustainable unfortunately, because the majority of youtube's audience (going by how content is catered for) is younger teens/kids. I'm just barely on the edge of that audience and millenials (who absolutely hate the former), and so I can kinda see both sides of the coin here. A lot of the content I watch is reviews, animations, vfx videos, documentaries, video essays, that kinda stuff. And just a trip through my favourites over the last couple years (when I was transitioning from the young teen to young adult) can tell you how my preferences have changed from comedy skits and spontaneous stream highlight moments to worked content that takes time to produce. I moved out of the primary audience by growing up a little, and I can see exactly what they mean now. Maybe there could be a way for people to educate appreciation of arts/craftsmanship (and thats not limited to literal "arts" and creative stuff, but other things too), but that's just wishful thinking

    I think the biggest thing that youtube can't shake is that the 4th Wall is either very thin or completely non-existent. Even Corridor's main videos, which usually don't break it; there's still a sense of "Look at this cool video we made" because youtube just has that interpersonal air about it. It's almost like if you were close friends with Steven Spielberg and he personally showed you a short video he just made.

    Another great interview and very interesting! At about an hour the conversation gets to career first with why no VGHS season 4 (quick shoutout VGHS was awesome and was a great exploration of narrative storytelling and you guys did great with it Freddie) and then what challenges he faces now. He talks at length about context and how his career could be different. Not sure if this counts for much as I am a nobody, but you guys are all amazing. You are amazing filmmakers. On the point of mods in video games. Two of my most fondest memories of Minecraft were Hunger Games online games, and Civilization online mod. Imagine Playing CIV, except you are the worker, the bowman and the ruler of the CIV, and all of the rest of the workers and bowmen in your CIV were other players you met in the game. Holy shit that was so fun on a server that hosted more than 500 players at a time. Our CIV had more than 30 active players on it, who all talked on Teamspeak. The game lasted for about two months, and our CIV ended up concurring the entire server. Good times, good times. I would definitely play this again if the servers were still up, or if someone made an actual game based on this idea, similar to what Pubg is to Arma.

    I feel what Sam was saying about not shooting people in multiplayer shooters. It seems weird to me that shooting someone is usually more valued than avoiding contact. I was sad to discover the "run-through" state in Tarkov. The only game I've played where explicitly not engaging the enemy can be beneficial is in Squad where flag captures are immensely more important than kills. Back in Arma's Battle Royale, most of my matches were me avoiding the enemy and judging the terrain to remain undetected within each circle, only engaging other players when I absolutely had to.

    Freddie is so on point about the middle ground of Hollywood nd how it's either 9 figure big-budget franchises, or barely 7 figure low budget stuff. Without that midle ground where studios were willing to take chances and give these great artists the ability to produce their ideas, there'd be no Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Terminator, Predator, Taxi Driver, Fight Club, and so on. And now with Disney buying up all these properties so that can give all these old franchises THEIR take on it (safe/no risk taking, along with the original tone being lost) is going to be the death of Hollywood IMO.

    King of the Hill was a game mode in Marathon 2: Durandal in 1995. I don't know if it's the earliest appearance of KotH, but it's the earliest that I'm aware of.

    Yo! Have you ever thought about having these podcasts in a public setting of sorts? Kinda like a talkshow or something? Like, have a live audience listen to you guys chat with each other and even maybe a Q&A session? Even if you don't have a huge crowd, you're still satisfying the goal of having a wholesome podcast.
    If you pull this off, just set a date and location, and fans closeby can drop by and stuff. I'd love to see that. :D

      Once the podcast has proven successful and sustainable, which we're quite optimistic about with how it's going in the first few months so far, then a Live Cast would definitely be fun!
      But that's a whole other beast. I grew up in theatre and have worked live events professionally for years and a lot more goes into it for a polished product. Still, it's not outside the realm of possibility for the future.

    Little feedback.
    How awesome would it be that in the description you have a timeline of topics.
    For example if I wanted to hear something just on VGHS. I can go to the description, find a (time).

    Today is the first day that I watch the podcast mainly because of Freddy. I actually prefer the Corridor Crew videos over their actual content.
    But I just watched the first episode of Rush and man that was wild!!!
    I probably should support them on Patreon. So amazing what you guys can do!

    Guys the audio volume it is super low. Could you please raise it up for next podcast? I have to crank up the volume to the max, and I feel that the audio is lower to other youtube video media.
