Installing NEW Mercury Motor on My Jon Boat ( Unboxing to Running )

- Опубліковано 22 тра 2020
- I'm showing how to install a new Mercury 4 stroke 25hp motor on my 15 foot fishing jon boat known as the Crispy Collector. I've never installed a motor before and this became more difficult that I originally thought it was going to be but it can be done with a few key tools in the home garage.

Mercury: “ Everyone gets a free motor”
Also Mercury: “ ohh... you wanted a prop? That’ll be $3299!”
g36cking 😂😂😂😂
Hahahahahaha
😂😂👍
its only for the 25 - 30 ps range , no idea why props are not included
It's not made by Apple..... lol
Great motor Justin and looks awesome. I do have one suggestion though as you need to maybe put a piece of1x1 in the gap between the motor and transom that it sits down on something solid as over time or if you hit something you don't break the motor mount. I also agree with another suggestion I seen of adding a piece of plywood on the transom as well to give you a little stronger transom as that would be some that you could attach the 1x1 to that it also has something solid to attach to as well giving you a more solid transom as well. As I don't know if you know how much wear has already been put on the transom with bumps and bangs it's took from the old motor and stuff it may have hit.
Maybe even make the 1x1 a little long that it extends pass the motor mount that a screw could be screwed in at the top into the transom to hold the 1x1 better as well. And as you know silicon is your best friend when you own any boat. Just speaking from what I seen in my Marine Patrol days as not a boat builder but have seen some boats like that where the motors that size tore out the transom because they were not strengthen a little more. Best wishes on your new motor and be safe as can't wait to see how she runs.
Sick that they sponsor yall! I've been saving up for a nice 4 stroke for 2 years, when the current situation hit and I lost my job I also lost a year of savings for it in two months lol. Back to the damn grind I guess
Def keep saving for new. i saved up and trusted someone on craigslist bought used 20HP 2-Stroke and it's left me stranded a few times and draining what lil savings i had and it still doesnt run good.
It will be worth it in the end. My dads ProSX is so much better then his old 2 stroke was.
I feel your pain
@@zcookie9272 my dad's 2 stroke 25 is still running strong. still has most of the stock parts on it and it runs almost like it's brand new. even stock impeller
LFG congrats on the new motor and install. You are my favorite Googan Squad guy. 💫
Looks like you have a long shaft motor on a short transom. Take it to a welding shop and get the transom raised. And get yourself a break away mount
Isn’t the prop suppose to be pretty level with the hull? I’m trying to find out myself thanks
Merc is giving them free motors, call em and tell em you need another one
Cavitation plate should be level with or just slightly above the bottom of the hull
william collins yes cavitation plate even with the bottom of the hull. He either needs to build his transom up or buy a jack plate
He’s gonna want a breakaway the first time he smacks a tree. Gotta have one duckhunting
LFG my friend that is so cool that they are supplying you with new Mercury outboards .. good job on putting it on your boat . I work on older outboard motors from the 1950s and man have the motors changed . Love your videos.
old motors? back when Johnson was not evinrude....my dad and Uncle Maurie went in together and bought a 6 HP Evinrude back in th early 50s...wish I had that motor just for old times sake....grew up in Milwaukee, lived in DFW since 72....
It's great to see the truck back. So happy for you. Excellent job on the install of the outboard. I pray that it gives you many successful dangles. Tight lines, Justin. God Bless you.
I have that same motor! Minus the power trim/tilt. Its been runnin’ strong every weekend since 2015. Definitely a dependable workhorse and easy to maintain.
“Oil resi that mixes itself”... it’s a four stroke. No mixing
4 minutes in and that was my comment - no mixing, sipping gas, very quiet
I gave him a pass for the intake manifold comment but the oil reservoir was too funny.
Exactly my thoughts. Lmao. Dip shit.
Exactly what I was going to say lmao
He's got a four stroke on his bass boat. I'm sure he knows the deal.
Shoot Man! You got my heart rate up with the bobcat situation.
You are by far my favorite googan member. The reason why is because you are much more relatable to everyone and I love your channel for that. Stay humble
Bought a new Lowe 1860 Roughneck Center Console with a 60hp Mercury 4 stroke recently and love it. The Merc 4 stroke runs great, is quiet and definitely sips on the gas. Enjoy it. I put the first 20 hours on it quick and am preparing for first oil change.
Mercury sponsorship, that's hitting the big time. I really enjoy watching your home grown success.
Coming from experience you need to transfer the weight of the battery and the gas tank in the front. with the weight of you, the new engine, battery and two 6 gallon tanks your back end will sit significantly lower in the water line then you would want. Also this will great reduce the stress on the engine and transom by getting it on plain faster. Much love brother!
Love your vibe, calm chill, getting work done. Appreciate it.
Been watching you for several years. Back before you hit 100k in subs. It’s been an awesome adventure and pleasure tagging along. Excited for you to hit that sweet million 👍🏽
"Hopefully theres a resiviore for the oil so it can mix" 🤣😂🤣🤣 classic
He's been a two-stroke boy for way too long.
LEO ASHRAE not long enough smh
The only googan squad guy I actually like. He’s genuine
Same.
None of these guys are genuine..
@@case8987 Yes I am sure LFG almost died for click bait. You do not know any of them, you have no idea who they are as people you idiot.
Agreed. Not a man child like some others.
Agree. Used to like Lunkers in his earlier days but hes gotten just as immature that the other kids in the squad.
Tears of joy for you, at the I have a wife to help mount a outboard motor. True ! God bless your Family. Love y’all.
You might want to get a transom saver bar for towing with the increased weight going from 2 stroke to 4 stroke if you are worried about the transom at all. Love your stuff, both channels are great. Thanks for the great content year after year.
The wife sounding more texan each video. Greatest UA-camr there ever was. LFG and OSG are the inspiration!
Are you saying people from Austin like her are not real Texans ;)
No :) compared to older videos she just sounds more like a texan mom?
Dean Firnatine well it is the most liberal city in Texas so...yes.
I have the same motor on my 17 ft. Tracker boat and I love it.
I loved how you filmed the entire process! I’ve never seen it done! Keep up the great work!
You and flair are my favorite googans. That merc looks so nice with the trim feature.
There are so many points in this video that I am like really, is this your first time around boats and motors Justin? 4 stroke mixes the oil itself? Never drilled a hole in a boat before? Didn't know the kill switch had to be on? Wrong length shaft?
When you and Rob do callabs I never know whats going to happen. Good stuff man.
25 horse Mereury. Won,t go in gear has a control handle that shift in gear
As always great video, can't wait to see it run.
This guy who was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin thanks you for buying a Mercury Motor.
Sitting outside waiting to see if a tornado comes through and I just got my first big boy revolver for deer hunting.
I'd put a board or something in that gap from when you lifted the engine up.
15 inch transom with a 20 inch mid section, no go.
that seemed like a dangerous thing lettin Rob on equipment, especially indoors!
lmao whoever cut the legs off all his pants should've cut his license in half
I've trained people on how to operate those types of lift trucks (and other types.) Rob doesn't fully know how to use it and is therefore dangerous on it.
Louis Loutrel my guess is Rob would be dangerous on many if not all types of operating equipment.
I watched every min of this vid and it was one of my favorites!
Man thats a sweet sounding motor! Can’t wait to see you collect some crispy’s out of it!
4:16 please learn the difference between a four stroke and a two stroke.
Haha make sure to premix that 4 stroke gas!
why do mercury sponsor people like this
2 strokes generally have less parts and a better power curve but burn more a little more fuel.
They sent a new motor a year ago but it’s not EFI?
looks like
wrong motor for that boat you need a 15" not a 20" shaft ...
Yes sir 👌 definitely not the right motor
@@deanfulford69 Get a jackplate and lift the piss out of it!
Add jack plate and rip it
Isn’t the prop supposed to be sitting almost level with the boat hull? I’m about to buy a motor for mine
@@ryanishkonk3446 The cavitation plate should be almost the same level as the keel of your boat. Give or take and inch is fine. So if the measurement from the top of you transom to the keel is 15" then you need a short shaft. If it is 20" then you need a long shaft, etc.
I have a little 15 on my little flat bottom boat and it will go. The electronic start button is nice. They run very quiet. Very smooth.
Bad ass! I work for the company that builds the forklift at the beginning! Upstate NY! Raymond Corp! Love the motor, got the same thing few years older on my 16’ mirrocraft! 25 HP 4 stroke efi with electronic trim! Love it!
wish i lived closer i would love to buy the old motor from you for my 16' jon boat i use a trolling motor it's slow but it works. you should come to Deltona FL and put in the in the st john's river i think you would crush the bass
"I'm gonna sneak up on the Bobcat!". LMAO
Great video man. Soon, you'll have literally everything so your viewers have no excuses to get out there and experience the world.
Before I joined the military I worked in the Raymond forklift factory in Greene NY. It’s cool to see that you guys own one.
Huge thanks to our veterans without a doubt for keeping this country safe so I can go fishing this weekend
Memorial day isn't for the veterans, it is to remember those who died fighting
This weekend is about my brothers and sister that didn't get to come home....
Do a giveaway for the yammy 25hp
Glad to see you're still keeping up the hard work longtime subscriber and watch videos along with your colleagues is the first video I watched of you in a long time my wife passed away in February and I kind of lost the passion for all things outdoors now that I have a four-year-old son to take care of by myself
Awsome!! Congratulations on the sponsorship!! you should film a finishing trip on Grand lake Oklahoma. There is some big bass and big crappie in this lake. I pulled my PB crappie 2 weeks ago at 15 inch. Tight lines!
Thanks to all veterans of this great nation under god...
Bob Cat sees my young child BANG no more Bob Cat. JMO
Exactly Len
Nice video! A new motor on your boat is like Christmas x100, lol. I just finished my second summer with my 2021 25 HP Yamaha 4 stoke. I cant say ANYTHING bad about it! It was a dream! 4 stoke 25's fuel economy are insane. It was fast enough to traverse any lake all day long. But for me with 2 people in the boat fishing and with 150 pounds of gear, i had one small annoyance. I could always get on plane, but it always took some proper placement of weight to make it easy do do so. ( This is on an soft bottom Inflatable, hard bottoms are different, so I cant speak to those ) That said, my 16 foot soft bottom inflatable is max rated to take a 40HP. So I am making the switch in 2 months.... Stoked! and from what I have been seeing on other videos, getting on plane will take 2 seconds with the extra 15 HP. .... anyways happy boating!
I had an awesome weekend thanks to Googan Baits and a Saturday of nothing to do! Caught my first and current PB of the year out on a local lake on Saturday with a rattling ned!
Never run an outboard or I/O without water!!! You'll eat up that water pump impeller.
Stolzie J you can just not long
@@justinmartin3918, I've been a boat mechanic for a long time, but unfortunately I haven't been in it for a long time now too. Things may have changed/improved, but from my past experiences, it doesn't take very much to chew up the impeller. Especially without any water. But like I said, things may have improved
@Wes Steve who
@@justinmartin3918 NO YOU CAN'T! Ever take one apart that ran dry? I've done way too many. The rubber impeller melts to GOO! And, if you're dumb enough to run it until one of the impeller blades comes off... well, I just might be feeling cranky enough (because I've been telling all my customers not to do this) to charge some BIG bucks to go up into the thermostat housing to find the pieces. Listen to ALL the manufacturers; DON'T DO IT!
I would sell my soul to buy the 25 Yammy from you for my "WormSlayer"!!!! I need it desperately! I'm 2 hours from your area!
Measure the distance from top of transom to mount. Find square aluminum tubing and slide between hook over on mount and transom. Just additional support.
just ordered the same motor yesterday for my 14ft jon. only it's a 15" shaft, should be here in 2 weeks!
Reads manual then cranks it up for the first time without water.
Lmfao I was thinking the same thing
YES MERC GANG! Hells yeah! (Also skeeter owns Yamaha so is he switching boat brands?)🤭
Actually, Yamaha owns skeeter. not the other way around
He needs to get a ranger. All of the squad should. Nothing rides like a ranger
Max Hayse no he needs a Phoenix
Max Hayse nahhh it’s made by the same goons who make nitro....
Max Hayse Ranger is a Johnny Morris (Tracker/Mako/Nitro) brand, just like Triton, Stratus and Legend.
Just picked up a new 75 Mercury for my 16ft Mirrocraft. It's going to be a long winter as it's sitting at the Marina until the spring to be installed. Looking foward to the new 4 stroke experience and fuel savings.
Laughed more than I thought I would at “motor install” video. Nicely done‼️
20" shaft motor on a 15" transom. Ouch.
That was exactly my first reaction, but in all fairness seems to know what he’s doing
@ Frode I was wondering if you can explain why 20” shaft motor on 15” transom is a bad thing
Gerald Paul it creates too much drag in the water. It makes the efficiency far less and it goes much slower while biting more fuel. Also can make the wake splash into the boat when you decelerate
Noticed it immediately
"If i dont have a prop on there will water get into the lower unit" come on man get out of the fog.... how does this guy get a free motor this is hard to watch
Congratulations lake fork guy and the rest of the Googans!
Dude. You The Man. God Bless. And Enjoy Your New Mercury. 👍😎
Imagine taking off a Yamaha to put on a mercury...😬
no...its made by Tohatsu
I know right, Mercury isn’t reliable
I love mercury but Yamaha is great to
doing yourself a favor
My dad used to fish billfish tournaments in South Florida and his team was offered a sponsorship with mercury and they gave them a chance and after 6 months of problems and repairs they said "you can have your mercuries back" and they bought all new Yamahas. Our boat right (Sailfish 2660) now has had the same Twin Yamahas 150s on them for over 10 years and they haven't had ANY problems. (With normal maintenance).
You’re gonna regret leaving Yamaha and going to Mercury just like Chevy😂
Awesome, congrats.... definitely get a separate battery, the charging system on that is not meant to charge a deep cycle and could ruin it....hook your lights and bilge pump to the starting battery. I suggest a group 24 dual purpose. I also hope you followed proper break in or that motor won't last like it should
Now you cant ever say youve never installed an outboard.... now my friend you are an expert. The only way to learn is to just get your hands dirty and do it! Great job Rackley
Happy for you lfg thats a awesome lil boat
Let’s see that bad boy run!!!
I noticed when you first put it on, its looks like they gave you a long shaft motor and your boat has a short shaft transom. I would try to get a short motor from them or add a jack plate to really get the motor where it should be. Also with that long of a motor it will really take away from shallow waters you got that boat for. Not to mention it will be hard to handle with all the drag from the motor being so deep.
Friendly piece of advice, you might want to put a spacer or buffer between the gas tank and the bolt you sawed off before it wears a hole in your gas tank!
Awesome! You need a jack plate to get the cavitation plate level or slightly higher than the hull.
I’d do a light line of silicone around the plate on the back just to make sure there’s no sepage love you guys stay safe and fish on.. god bless
You want to use 3m 4200 or 5200 sealant. Not just any silicone.
Just got a 30 exactly like that it runs great and I love it
Cant wait to see you get a prop on the crispy machine!
Just bought a mercury. 2.5 hp for my 12 ft 1987 coleman jon boat. Good power for a small engine.
just got a brand new 25 hp for my 14 ft jon boat and it hauls!!!
New found respect for the Googan Squad boys, never realized ya'll had a former paratrooper on the team, to the brother in the blue tee shirt at the warehouse, From the " Dirty South " Bass Club, of Middle Georgia , ( Rangers) lead the way !!!!
Love your daughter playing and laying in the dirt.
Nice work LFG 👍🏻
I saw you while you were doing your video in the headquarters and I love your videos
Definitely need to bolt down the motor. I have the exact same motor and pulled it for a week and there is a ton of room now and it bent the transom.
Looks good on the crispy, agree probably needed a 15" shaft but all good . Son, you will be able to Wa Bam something soon!!
Enjoyed the video and the whole family thing. Bright future. 🇺🇸
Yea the duramax’s are having intake soot problems and egr blockages causing overheating issues. They have a design change which I’m pretty sure they have installed on yours now. I’ve had quite a few come through my shop here. Keep the vids coming 👍
Good job lfg.. and beautiful motor
Awesome videos justin love watching you working on stuff (boat stuff) and as for the bobcat, carry a pistol! And the keep with the chevy! Its a new motor dont let it stray you away from chevy
Awesome brother! Just bought my first job boat came with a 82 Evinrude 35hp but I can't get it running and it impossible to get parts for. Don't know what I'm going to do
That thing is quieter than the 6hp I just got for my 12' Jon Boat. But wow the Mercury pushes my little Jon at 18mph around half throttle with only one person in the boat! First time in my life I ever felt a boat go up on plain and what a weird feeling. You are going to have fun with that bigger Merk I think.
with 2 people and a full load on my Jon boat a 9.9 will push mine at 22-23 mph full throttle. just one person and all the gear around 26-27 mph. probably just one person no gear around 30. planes out at around 4\10 throttle with 2 people and full load. ive felt getting up on p!and my whole life because my dad has 25 on his 15 ft skiff
Stainless bolts will gald up when you use an impact on them. I would replace that one so you don't have to worry about it loosening up and leaking. You can use bar soap on the threads when you put it on and prevent the friction that causes that.
Cool video man nice watching you work on your boat learning a little bit you subscribe to a channel can't wait to see more of your videos thank you so much God bless you and your family take care of that little girl watch out for that Bobcat they ain't nothing to play with watching all the way from Spain peace out
Now that's a crappie boat. I always look forward to the videos. The cat, I think I would stay strapped up for a few days if he's wise to the traps.
I love how quiet and efficient newer outboards are
Yeah you’ll love it until your mercury shuts down 3 months in
Great video and excellent job! It was joy to watch the whole process. Correct me if I am over worried, seeing the battery with two gas tanks supper closed to each other’s, am I over worried?
ahaha starts off with the intake manifold but then goes on about hoping a 4 banger has a self mixing oil resi... first video I've watched and I've already subbed for the laughs
Nice Motor there LFG. Lil Emmy is as Cute as they Come guys. She is going to be the Star of the Show Soon I Do Believe!!!
Love you so much LFG! Your an inspiration to me.
I was waiting for Rob to Rambo the middle of that crate, and he breaks out even a new pair of Daisy Dukes. Nice job with the motor install LFG, let's go catch some Hog's on the Yacht
Well, id bet to say next year rob and him will be in a Phoenix... they will def not be running a skeeter anymore! Good on them!
i got me mercury 9.9hp last year and it had straight out of box problems connections were loose and screws as well it was leaking fuel and had eletric start problems. so better make sure everything is tight and it does not leak fuel.
The man The Legend!
Hey LFG I just wanted to let you know that if you do his stump with that motor is long as you are in drive or forward it will kick the motor up
it's always good to see Rob with heavy machinary
screams danger
