  • Today we're building the most important part of the Dirt jumps which ties the whole thing together. This is starting to look more like a pump track than Dirt jumps, but whatever it is, it'll be fun.

Awesome Phil, living the dream. If I won lotto, I would do exactly this, quit my job and build dirt jumps with a mini excavator!

I feel like maybe I'm a bit sad watching Phil's build videos instead of being out riding, (or watching Skills with Phil 😉) but they are strangely compelling, and quite cathartic! 😂🙏🏼

Nothing sad about it, 😁 watched this while eating 'dinner' after a night shift. It's a great way to wind down after work for sure, and makes me want to go dig. And plus you can always ride tomorrow 🤞👍

I tell people I ride more on UA-cam than actually on trails.

I love how you are thinking about everyone when building these that’s really cool and a great way to make sick trails

Dang this is very impressive. Once this whole section is done it would be cool to have a "opening day" for people to come and check it out and give thoughts on it. All in all Im pretty jealous of this setup and your woods trails haha

i think I'll show it in the next video, but I used the rocks 9inches or less as a base for the service road in the spot that is constantly muddy. I'm really glad I did that as it's remedied the problem almost immediately.

Finally some footage showing how to use the bucket to compact and shape on a mini ex. I've searched everywhere. Nice to see the process. Do you run the machine at half throttle to make movements smoother?

When packing i personally run it as slow as possible or one click up.. I can't speak for any other machine, but i can "feel" the ground better and i make fewer mistakes. I'm sure other builders do things differently, but that's what i found works for me the best.

Did you have dirt brought in? Looks a different color after the missing day.

We have not imported any dirt. The dirt on the top of the hill is much different than the soil lower down. There's almost 3 entirely different soil compositions in the span of the line. The stuff up top is more sandy and dries very quickly the stuff lower down is more organic and holds moisture better.
