Go for it. Next year I just might with my 2xl. They are so great, and still so widely used that I could see google deciding to go one more year next year. We were supposed to stop getting updates of any kind in October but went through December anyway. Google just switched to four years of updates. That's why I could see them giving the 2xl one more is next year. They are more powerful than anything google offers now in terms of raw brute power. The last true flagship google offered. I don't count the 3xl because all 3 of my 2xl's are faster than my daughter's 3xl. The 845 was either not faster or the phone itself is slower than a 2xl

Great review, to me the Pixel 4a 5G is the best option since I take photos a lot and ride a motorcycle a lot. I need a ultra wide lens and I need a headphone jack for my earbuds while I ride. So it's a no brainer.
That Panda 2xl is still my most favorite android phone. I was actually going to buy it in the begining of this year but went with the 3a instead because of the software support left
Love my Pixel 2XL. Still in perfect condition 3 years later, albeit the 64Gb was pretty full. I got lucky and got one of the ones where it looks like they had fixed their initial screen issues. But I want the continuing software updates so bought a 4a 5G a week ago. It was on sale with $100AUD off (P5 is $1000AUD, 4a5g was $800AUD and 4a is $600AUD) - making the value proposition much better. Kind of bummed I missed the boxing day special where it was a further $50 off. A glass screen protector from Spigen was $20, so that makes the Gorilla Glass 3 a non-issue. Case ($20) helps to offset the water resistance thing a touch. 2GB extra RAM makes little difference to my usage. Never had an issue with my USB-C and have lived without wireless charging for this long, so don't miss it now. So I feel I'm still well ahead, and the $300 jump to the P5 just not worth it.
my pixel 3 xl is still a champ, aside from the lack of ram (my only gripe) and 5g everything has functioned adequately. good speakers, squeeze assistant, wireless charging ill wait for the pixel 6xl
I think a upgrade from the 2xl to the 4a5g makes sense as you have a smaller body but more sreen and a bigger battery AND a headphone jack. win win win the way I see it
Excellent video! My Pixel 2XL power button does not work combined with no further updates. I am having to make this tough decision to upgrade. Thank you for making the process a little less painful, lol.
Good breakdown. I love my 2XL. I just can't justify spending money to get a slightly better processor and no more stereo speakers or squeeze for assistant. Google has been terrible lately with just about every aspect of their company. From charging for photo storage after saying it would be free, to firing people they shouldn't and killing off Play Music...I just can't stand behind them anymore.
Hi Mikey! I feel the same about Play Music, photo storage etc. I just dropped my 2XL and was wondering if I should get the 4a 5G or the 5 or a whole different phone. Any suggestions?
@@juliafisher1870 I actually got the 5 and returned it. It was a complete let-down. I ended up with the S21 Ultra, which is an awesome phone as far as hardware goes, but I do miss the vanilla android experience. @@PotatosPotatoes Thanks for your reply. After more research I agree that the 5 is too expensive for what you get. I am actually thinking now that the 4a might be good for me because of its small size. I don't have big hands and the price is incredible..

I'm still running my 2XL as well. Thinking about upgrading, but can't decide between these 2 lol. Think I'm going to go with the 5 for the battery life and IP rating and extra RAM. That last one I think should help my phone last another 3 years
The 5 definitely feels like a really solid phone. I'm loving it. I'm afraid to take the 4a 5g out into the world because I think I'm going to drop it in a puddle or something 😂
My 4a5G arrived the day this video was posted lol. it replace a Pixel 3, which I was happy with and wasn't going to upgrade. Then on Black Friday Google had this deal where they gave me $300 USD in trade to get the 4a5G. So for $200 net USD I couldn't say no; I feel the phone was priced pretty right at the start so getting it for $200 was insane. I now look on their site and Google Store is selling refurbed P3s for $250 or similar, I'd really love the rationale behind why they offered so much in trade. I really dig this phone and not just cause it cost me so little!
For real! My guess is that google learns a lot about the wear and tear on the phones when they offer trade ins. Maybe that's why they offer such great deals?...I don't know just guessing haha. Glad you were able to grab one at such a good deal!

I was so confused as to upgrade from my 2XL or not but after a lot of thought I decided to wait for he Pixel 6. I feel a camera sensor upgrade and Google's own chipset (if it makes it to the next Pixel) will make a ton of difference and I will be wiling to miss out on an year of upgrades until then, plus my 2XL is aging amazingly well so it will very easily handle 1 or even 2 years more.
Lovely video mate, you've managed to find yourself quite a jice little niche topic. As for me, I'm having the regular pixel 2, but I'd say the experience should be similar. The last months have been plagued by perfirmace issues for me, quite regulate freezes as well. Probably will try and flash Lineageos, which I'd highly recommend others to do as well. Because the new 4a 5g and 5 are indeed quite nice upgrades, but I still do not consider them to be that big of an upgrade, which is quite a shame. Regardless, great video bud, you've trully caught my interest

I've had a "Pixel" phone all the way back to the Nexus 4 and once I learned the SAME MAIN CAMERA sensor on the 5 is on the 2 XL I got the panda and I couldn't be happier
I moved from pixel 2 to pixel 3 to pixel 4 , and I noticed pixel 4 comes out blurry when there is motion and there is a lot of auto white balance issue , pixel 2 didn't have both these issues. Also pixel 4 is sticky in terms of motion metering and auto focus , In terms of taking quick pictures of kids, cars , pet, pixel 2 is still a beast.
I do miss my Pixel 2XL quite often. I'm planning on moving from the Pixel 5 to the Pixel 7 when it's released. Fingers crossed it's got some nice improvements.
Not sure if it is related to the recording angle or light, but the colors in 4a 5g seem to be a bit more washed out than in 2xl. How do you compare the quality of screens? Some sites say the 5 has more contrast. Do you notice it?
I didn't notice much of a difference between the screen on the 5 and 4a 5g. Only real thing I noticed was the 4a 5g was a tad "warmer" looking than the 5 but that may just be a slight difference from screen to screen. Both the 5 and 4 have better contrast than the 2xl though, and no weird blue shift at an angle haha
Just "upgraded" from 2xl to 5! Quotation marks because i haven't really noticed much difference in camera...unfortunately... But astrophotography is sweet though! Koodo(canadian provider gave me a super sweet deal that i just couldn't pass on:) $360CAD)... And i'm still not sure what to do with my 2xl lol, such a better built device.... 5 is way smoother and faster and size is just right. @@hjpinhei yes, it's definitely brighter 👍 I'm always adjusting it lower haha, cause there's no need for it to be super bright, plus it saves the battery. @@thehumblecanadian431 I'm still rocking the 2XL and plan to be for a while. I did read a tutorial on enabling it in the pixel 5 within settings, but it was convoluted. I love the feature and would definitely enable it.
Oh! That makes a lot of sense. Possibly the reason they're wanting to make their own? One of the main reasons I hopped on the android train was because they didn't seem to make their older phones obsolete every year.
I Like the Canadian accent, eh?! Greetings from Florida, I have family in Quebec, but I digress. Still unsure whether or not I want to get rid of my P2XL.. I may just hold out till next year, supposedly Google is in collaboration with Samsung on making a custom SoC. I hope the rumors are true. @@thehumblecanadian431 I like the 5, but I do enjoy the front firing speakers on my 2XL. Is the sound that bad on the Pixel 5, like some are saying?! Also, I just read an article about Google rolling out a volume update for the 5, though not sure if this is true.
@@nickelass427 Honestly, the bottom speaker on the 5 is really dang good. The speaker behind the glass sounds like crap though, if you plug the bottom speaker you can isolate it and it's just treble. That being said, I maxed out the volume of the 4a 5G and the 5 and both me and the misses decided the 5 was louder. I don't know if it's louder because it's a better speaker or because the phones made of more metal allowing the sound to vibrate more. Either way, it doesn't sound bad, it just "feels" better having audio that comes right out at ya....if any of that rambling made sense haha.
Pixel 2 xl is still the best phone they have ever made, I will take front facing speakers with no pinhole in the screen thank you. I got that for their next phone they just revamp the 2xl and call it pixel 6. Bigger screen smaller besels. Same front facing speakers. Same water resistance. Better screen quality. And just add a wide angle lens. I think it's kinda beast to just have one lens on the back and still take amazing photos. I honestly haven't bought a pixel since 2xl. Hopefully they can beat that phone.
Totally agree, I hope the pixel 6 is exactly what you're asking for. I'm actually enjoying the size of the 5 atm but I'll probably get the 6 when it comes out.
I've just switched to 3XL when my 2XL had problems with its LCD display (and I found out later that to replace the screen will cost me so friggin much)..
Can you see the resolution difference? 1440p on 2xl vs 1080p on 5... Do you miss the front firing speakers when holding the phone to watch videos (accidentally covering bottom speaker, etc?
Hey there! The resolution on the pixel 5 is I believe 1080x2340, which is still plenty, I don't notice a difference at all other than the 5 having nicer colors and no color cast. I do miss the front facing speakers, but it's not as big of a deal as you'd think, at least not for me.
Well if you still have a 2XL and you don't want to pay a lot of money your best option is to get a 3XL because I used to have a 3XL last year and the photos that it took were amazingly good and you want really see a big difference between the 3XL 4XL and the 5 except when it comes to ultra wide shots taken on the 5
Great video my wife and I had the Pixel 2 XL's and like you said the only reason we were forced to get new phones was no more security updates so luckily we got the Pixel 5's on Black Friday for $500 each from Best buy so far we're happy with them had to get used to the phone feeling smaller in our hands but we're happy.
Hey Ben! Are you wanting to know how the cameras compare to the 2xl? They're pretty much the same other than the wide lens. I believe it's the same sensor. I could snap some photos and put the downloads in the description of that would help ya out :-)
I have the 4a 5G and the 5, but I end up using the 5 more because I actually like the smaller feel now. But it's really a personal preference thing. Do you enjoy a bigger screen or a smaller phone while keeping the same screen space as the 2xl?

Nice! I'm glad they made a phone with a headphone jack for you! Never thought about needing one on a bike.
@@thehumblecanadian431 yeah man! Can't switch songs if you're wearing wireless headphones under the helmet haha

That all makes perfect sense ☺️. I believe some places like lifeproof make really great waterproof cases if you really needed it too.
I enjoyed the squeezing feature on up to the 4 XL. Saved me having to say "Ok G".
Upgrading to 4a 5G from the original pixel XL, mostly for the security updates and the headphone jack

my pixel 3 xl is still a champ, aside from the lack of ram (my only gripe) and 5g everything has functioned adequately. good speakers, squeeze assistant, wireless charging ill wait for the pixel 6xl
Love your video man, you just got a sub 👍👍
Appreciate the sub bud! 😊
I think a upgrade from the 2xl to the 4a5g makes sense as you have a smaller body but more sreen and a bigger battery AND a headphone jack. win win win the way I see it
Yep! It's a great phone for sure. Especially for the price. Just need to be careful around water 😊
Excellent video! My Pixel 2XL power button does not work combined with no further updates. I am having to make this tough decision to upgrade. Thank you for making the process a little less painful, lol.
Good Job with the video!

I did a lot to get my S21 Ultra as close to stock Android as possible and I definitely like it a lot more than the Pixel 5. The Pixel 5 just feels like a budget phone that costs too much.
@@PotatosPotatoes Thanks for your reply. After more research I agree that the 5 is too expensive for what you get. I am actually thinking now that the 4a might be good for me because of its small size. I don't have big hands and the price is incredible..
Haha common. Who did they fire that affected YOU so much. Do you even know the real story? How can you claim they fired someone they shouldn't be firing. Who is exempt from being fired? Imagine if you are running a business, and you fore an employee. The said ex employee whines about it, claims you shouldn't of fired her/him. Who are those people to tell you who you cant fire. Who really knows what happened except you and said ex employee. Seriously, this cancel culture has gotten too far. So you can fire someone of they look a certain way. Is that correct?
Yeah bro awesome phone review! Thanks again cause I still have the panda. Thank you!

Definitely a solid choice. There's definitely potential for google to make something really great moving forward.
I've heard a lot of people are flashing their phones with custom mods. I honestly didn't know they existed until a few weeks ago. Sounds like a solid option! Appreciate you dropping by the channel 😊
We still got a security update of Oct 5 2020, but also Android 11, which is like an extra security update on our XL2.
Now looking for a replacement. Not sure to go with the Pixel 6, or 5..

thanks brother great review. decisions decisions. wish I still had a back button option. and no front facing speaker makes me wonder.
Apparently you can add the back button in the setting ☺️. I don't really miss the front speaker after having the phone a few months.
@@thehumblecanadian431 yes i hope 7 improves on the video part to match the iphones level and add macro mode.
I just wish the camera was a smidge better.... oh well, it already is perfect.
Oh wow, yeah that's a fantastic deal on the Pixel 5. Can't complain there.
@@thehumblecanadian431 I still like the built quality of 2xl vs 5 though.... But, when you put a case on it, all the phones are the same lol

But even though it's the same size display, the 5 is way more friendly in hand.
But older pixels definitely had better build quality.
You can add the squeeze feature to the new phones with a app
Wait....what? Haha. Is it not a sensor on the 2xl?
@@thehumblecanadian431 I'm still rocking the 2XL and plan to be for a while. I did read a tutorial on enabling it in the pixel 5 within settings, but it was convoluted. I love the feature and would definitely enable it.

It's Qualcomm not wanting to give out the latest drivers on older processors... From what Google said👀 is why we get only 3 year updates
Oh! That makes a lot of sense. Possibly the reason they're wanting to make their own? One of the main reasons I hopped on the android train was because they didn't seem to make their older phones obsolete every year.
Nice video. Make a video about settings.
I would like to see more of this with other phone manufacturers and moving away from Qualcomm.. O.o
Hey bud! Thanks for dropping by. I've never been to Quebec but have always wanted to check it out! Yeah, I think I read something about google potentially creating their own processors, not sure if that's the same news. Either way it definitely seems like their is potential for some really sweet phones in the future eh? I think holding off is a solid option. Although I will say I'm personally really happy with my Pixel 5. Plus after watching JerryrigsEverything tear it down, dunk it in acetone for an hour and it still boot up I'm feeling pretty confident it can handle me for a few years 😂
@@thehumblecanadian431 I like the 5, but I do enjoy the front firing speakers on my 2XL. Is the sound that bad on the Pixel 5, like some are saying?! I've watched many videos on UA-cam and it seems that the speaker on the bottom of the 5 is noticeably louder?!
The Pixel 2 XL Panda/Penguin was so iconic in its simplicity. It's too bad Google never went back to it.
Good video but pixel 2xl and pixel 5 screen sizes are different since they have different aspect ratios 🙂
For sure they're definitely different, but pretty darn close.
What is that charging dock? It look awesome!
Yeah, sometimes getting phones fixed doesn't make sense. That's why my screen is cracked in this review 😂

I feel ya, the screen size on the 4a 5g is perfect. But I'm getting used to the smaller 5 and I actually really like it.
