Google Pixel 5 vs 4a 5G vs 4a | All Three 2020 Pixel Phones Compared
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 чер 2024
- Comparing Google's Pixel 5 flagship phone vs the 4A 5G and the regular 4A, to see how they stack up for camera tech, performance, gaming, battery life and specs. Includes a battery drain test, Geekbench benchmark and all you need to know.
Check out my unboxing of all three of these handsets, while full reviews are incoming.
The Pixel 5 is the best of Google's 2020 line-up, costing £599 in the UK. You get the same dual lens camera as the Pixel 4A 5G, with the ultra-wide lens missing from the most affordable smartphone. But all three can take great looking photos, and 4K video (at 60FPS if you don't get the cheap one).
Gaming on PubG, Call of Duty Mobile etc is smooth on top detail levels, even with the regular Pixel 4. That SD730G chipset can blaze through Android titles, no sweat. And you also have the benefit of better energy efficiency, vs the other two phones. The Pixel 5 and 4A 5G can stream video for around seven hours, as you'll see in the battery test, while the 4A - with its smaller cell - actually managed a full ten hours.
So which of the new Google Pixel 2020 phones is your favourite? Hope this comparison was useful, reviews coming asap! - Наука та технологія
Hey Chris, I bought the pixel 4a last week because of your review. Must say I'm very happy with it! So cheers 👍
Bro battery backup comparing to your old mobile..
@@SriHari722 even though pixel 3a had 3000 mah it had a good battery backup of 9hour. Google's optimization for pixel series is awsm. Pixel 4a have good backup too with 3140 one can easily get 8 hours battery backup , but may be with heavy gaming the battery backup get reduced but still u will get 6.5-7 hour screen on time.
Please let me know about your experience. I am planning to buy it in next 4-5 days.
@@Omkar_katkar my experience with the pixel 4a has been great. I have absolutely no complaints about this phone. I had the pixel 3 before this and so the only difference is image processing, the 4a is a tiny bit slower. 👍
@@SriHari722 battery life is fantastic.
I really appreciate your recording and editing concepts. You kept the sequence of these phones same throughout the video. And that's really helpful.
Oddly when they were all stacked side-by-side all I noticed initially was the different refresh rates. Video really shows how the 60hz screens flicker but the 90hz unit on the 5 looks so smooth.
just noticed the same thing
Noticed it too
Me too
Flicker will most likely be because he is also filming at 60fps. The camera is taking images fast enough to catch the screens mid-refresh. You'd have to sync the camera and screens to avoid it or shoot at lower frame rate.
You aren't gonna see this in real life.
The flicker doesn't mean much pwm does. The s20 kill my eyes while my pixel 3 XL lookers smoother to me.
Love it when you do these side by side videos. Must take a lot of work so thank you.
First thing I immediately notice when all three are side by side with the screen on is that the only screen that doesn't flicker in the video (1080p60 in the UA-cam app) is the Pixel 5.
I think it's the refresh rate
The flicker you see is PWM (pulse width modulation). I'm surprised it isn't showing up on the Pixel 5, so I'm not sure if it has it or not. PWM gives many people severe eye strain and headaches.
Seriously: the 4a is THE phone to buy in an event of economic downturn.
You get everything you NEED in a compact formfactor for a modest price.
I have been waiting for such a well balanced offer since the days of the OnePlus One
@X G Why?
Someone who handles their money responsibly shouldn't have to worry about a few hunderd bucks in an economic downturn
@X G with that notch? no thanks
In my country the 4g pixel 4a is 550 USD
I hardly use my mobile so have you any idea how long the 4a would last on just standby ?
Thanks man, I really need this review to decide. You're awesome. Keep doing what you're doing !
Best pixel 5 comparison video currently available on UA-cam! Great work.
Google is right on the money with their recent pixel phones. It's setting a standard that you don't really need the latest and greatest hardware to stand out from the crowd. It will become more competitive once Google's able to develop its own processor.
Awful standard if you want a flagship phone. Very confusing product line, 3 mid range phones with little separation is product specifications and confusing for mainstream consumers. Should have been a much clearer separation in the product line and shouldn't have alienated its flagship customers. Line-up should been 5a (SD730) 1 lens camera £350 SD730 / 5 (SD765) 2 lens camera £599 / 5 pro (SD865) 3 lens camera £799+. Sadly google will never compete with its android partners properly. Another sadly lacklustre release from google as usual and its looking like the speakers are poor on the 5 and are even worse than the 2 models below. Typical
@@corsinivideos Google hardly makes any money with their smartphones. I guess they are just experimenting now so they could go all out in the market. I couldn't give any better reason to cover up for their weird strategies. Lol
@@goodboy905 Couldn't agree more
Even if their smartphones fail , it's not gonna affect them in anyway
@@goodboy905 haha well this is the point. No company makes phones so as not to sell any. Google are just sh*t at making hardware and marketing it. Whether its poor screens, bad battery, poor speakers, terrible ideas like soli, huge ugly notches, face unlock they don't support properly etc etc there is always some glaringly obvious issue with pixel phones. The 5th richest company in the world that invented android for some reason can't seem to get it right after 5 years lol. A simple product line wit a budget/ midrange and Flagship phone all with good specs and features and competitive prices, marketed properly would have been all they need to do, but instead the decided to experiment with sh*t ideas and put out half baked cra*p. While there competitors like apple just slowly refined their products and now rarely release a bad phone ever.
@Isa Kuliev sony phones have retarded pricing.
Thanks so much for this, all of them side by side. Getting my 4a soon, I have the 4 (I know, people might think I'm weird which I am!) but this is such good value for your money! And coincidently also ordered the xperia 5 mark 2 since it's a small form factor with great specs. Very curious about both phones but loving this side by side by side! Thanks man!
Brilliant review and side by side comparison. It’s what I’ve been looking for.
Cheers to you my friend what a Quality Audio!! 💪🏻💪🏻 and always good reviews

Great review as always 😁 I am not keen on the Google Pixel phones, but my nephew has a Google Pixel 2 & it's now dying a death, so he's looking for a new one.. I've sent him all the Pixel reviews 😊
Really enjoy all your videos. Just placed my order for the Pixel 5. Nearly went for the 4a after your review video but decided I would treat myself this time with the 5. First time Google phone...
Can't wait
Bad choice, 4a cheaaper but similar
I was honestly waiting for a video like this for all three of these phones thank you so much for this video
I won't lie man, your videos are good enough, but what made me sub you is your divine taste in wallpaper and those killer funny words in between ,gg and keep up.
Ahh, I’ve been waiting for this video since the announcement.
Your reviews and Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May shows never get boring and always fun to watch. Keep up the good work matey and thanks for making us all laugh during this Covid blue.
I don't comment on many videos but damn good job bro. Great and clear comparison I'm the 3 offerings. Keep it up bro.
I didn't know you was his brother... 🤔😉
I bought the 4a before the 5g and 5 came out, and I don't have any buyer's remorse about it, and I'd still pick the 4a today if I had a do over.
I don't feel like the extra upgrades are anything I'd miss. I would rarely use the extra lens if I had it.
It's all about the software anyway, which is about the same, and the 4a's hardware is plenty for a standard daily driver for a normal everyday person.
An extra $200 is better served getting some new Pixel Buds than a hardware upgrade IMO
How's your battery backup on today's date??? Is it giving same as earlier???
The 4a is the best bang for your buck.
90hz is better and the better processor will last longer
@@croschko I’ve only experienced 120 hrz on my iPad and it’s nice but 60 hrz isn’t by my eye laggy. Honestly the latency with my inputs are almost identical to my iPad. Idk there’s not that much 90-120 hrz content. Unless it upscales whatever I’m watching but if it won’t then it whatever 🤷🏽♂️
@@corneliussmith5875 i tried the pixel 4a and pixel 5 and the pixel 5 was way smoother in my eyes. maybe go to store and try yourself

Pixel 5 is nice for sure, but it's it 2 times as nice as 4a?
I appreciate the gurren lagan backgrounds on the phones.
Really nice backgrounds in all the videos I've seen

leaning toward the Pixel 5. Thanks for the great comparison review.
Just the type of comparison video I was waiting for, this guy is one the best reviewers on here. I'm still happy with my Pixel 3a XL but I do get a bit fed up of managing the lowly 64GB storage. The 4a 5G seems to be natural successsor sizewise so I think I'll go for that.
I got a couple of 4a's for my parents and have been very impressed while setting them up and having a mess about.
Good man. Setting up for the parents and buying them excellent phones.
I love your channel. Your facts are always on point. Appreciate you
The best review on the pixel I've come across. Thank you 👍
The best comparison video I see. I got the Pixel 4a and I'm so happy with it
Hi Danni, any issues with the phone getting warm or hot to touch? Thanks
@@SuperSparkyMark1 not at all. In fact I did my review but it is in spanish 😔 I just want to let you know that I have been playing Asphalt 9 and COD without any problems. For sure it gets warm but in a normal way.
Me watching on a pixel 4a and I'm really loving the software experience, camera is at supreme level and it includes pixel exclusive features which are very useful
Bruh I just got my pixal phone 3 days ago pixal is king 👑
Hope you're now running the Android 12 experience!
Can you plz share your thought about your battery life?
i think this is the best review i have seen! i'll subscribe for sure. thankyou so much and have a nicr day. I think Ill get the pixel 4a 5G
Hi Chris, great review video thanks. In the last 12 months I've had an Xperia 5 MK1 with the world's worst fingerprint scanner ever, I broke that and had to use my daughter's iPhone XS for 6 month, great handset but iOS is awful compared to Android.
Last week and due to this video I purchased the Pixel 4a. What a phone. Does absolutely everything I need it to and a bit more. Everything Google syncs seemlessly and as I guess I'd be classed as a light user most days I can get virtually 2 full days of use from a charge.
Thanks for this and all of the other great videos long may they continue.
My sage 5 is arriving tomorrow. Can't wait

Mine came today, it's horrible :(
@@Kemikalgeneral oh dear. I love mine. Such a nice change from my pixel 2xl. Wait till you get your headphones and sell your phone.
What don't you like about it?
@@lehoff Coming from the 3XL (and my wife's 4XL), I don't like that the screen is smaller, but most of all the audio is terrible. The top speaker is under the screen so it sounds cheap, tinny and muffled, and the single bottom speaker is no where near strong enough to carry it through.
Plus the back feels like cardboard.
@@Kemikalgeneral I guess it's not for everyone's taste. For me coming from the 2xl it's a massive step up the screen is similar size, I like that it's physically smaller as well for me as I was getting a bit tired of the overly big phones. The speakers are a bit crap I agree, but I don't really listen to audio on it much and even then it's not films or anything. So far the battery life seems really good, and the screen is lovely compared to what I'm used to. Despite not having a premium processor it seems fast and capable. The camera also seems great as usual. I agree it's probably not premium and not worth £600 but with the BOSE headsets then it does become a really good deal in my opinion. I needed a new phone, and for me the camera and 8gb ram and the size was exactly what I was waiting for. It's a shame it hasn't hit the spot for you - but then again at least you've given it a go!
a man of culture the wallpaper is dope
Exactly what I was thinkin lol
I got my pixel 4a for few weeks now , one of the reason to buy was your review and price/quality , so I am very happy of my choice , camera is comparable with most flag ship phones . Thanks
I've just bought the 5 but thinking of exchanging for the 4A 5G... didn't know it existed until watching this video!! Good review.
Kept the 5. Great phone so far.
This was a really good video! Now I know which one I'm going to buy, definitely the 4A! Thanks
I can’t wait to get the 4a
Thanks for the comparison - exactly what i needed
Spectacular review as usual, thanks Chris ...
Your discourse on Google's pixel phones does it for me: Your guide to all the merits gives me total confidence to stick with Google. This review, along with your other videos , means that I am moving from a pixel 3a to the pixel 4a (5G). With your extensive tech insights, you make the whole process of selection feel easy and safe.
And of course, the shows are always a joy to watch. Thanks again.
V Best to you,
Jez .
finally :OOO thank you for the video!
I didn´t expect that the Pixel 4a has a longer battery life. That surprising!
That is a very unique use case which isnt typical. Who streams a video for 10 hours straight?
I've had it for about a month and it seems to hold up well for me.. limited use during my 8 hour shift.. and when home I'm on it frequently for a few hours.. I've even forgotten to charge my phone and went the whole work day and maybe had to plug in an external battery once or twice.. ?
Pretty good so far.. I'm also trying to unplug it as soon (or close) as it hits 100% to keep the battery optimal!!
Plzzz plzzzz plzzzz join me also plzzzz join i me i wil thankful t you
Love your reviews man and keep up the good work 👍.
Looking forward to the battery drain tests
I love how you can move from sausages to cat sick in two reviews. 🍻
Really great comparison, but sadly I can only afford the phone stands you have :(
Thanks for your vids, Ive watched loads of them and appreciate your straight shooting. I'm torn between the two new ones and like the toughness of the 5 cos I work outside gardening and stuff. But I'd like to be able to listen with wired headphones if poss. Can this be done with a dongle on the pixel 5 and is it much hassle.. ? While I'm here what do you or others think of the silicon screen savers that are melted onto the displays.. ? My tools need to be able to take quite a hiding so I'd probly insure for breakage as well.. :)
Excellent reviews, thanks!
Definitely the 4a. My son wants the smaller screen and an awesome camera. I'm super glad that other than that ultra wide camera that the cameras are all the same. I honestly I thought there would be a bigger difference in processor too. Not worried about the lack of 5G at all at this time. He loves his pixel 2 but it's taken quite a beating over the years and ready to be retired or maybe passed down to me ;). He has no idea it's coming for Christmas. Yahooooo!
in the thumbnail this dude looks like Murr from Impractical Jokers
I agree, but the eyebrows gave it away!
Great review, sold me the 4a 5G variant. Tired of having an iPhone and being limited to crappy App Store games, I’m looking for some Pokémon 👀🙏🏼 can’t wait to get my hands on one.
thanks for this, i had to decide what i wanted for Christmas, 4a it is!
Have you been enjoying the experience?
i like that 4a 5G is a bit larger, that's the one I want.
I wish they never shut down Driveclub servers :/
@@240zwannabe yeah bro it's a shame, could be a great franchise, and would keep people entertained. Driveclub was great, Gran Turismo is awesome, but doesn't substitute Driveclub.
@@Black-Circle well, i rock Pixel 3A, it's 5.6, and i found it a bit too small. So i compared the size of P5 and P3A and found they are almost the same, so i simply want a bigger phone for my hands as well a slightly bigger display would be perfect. I'm in UK, so will keep waiting for 4a 5G, it can't come soon enough !:)
@@DRIVECLUBistimelessPS4 I haven't gotten excited for a new racing game for so long. So many IPs like Driveclub or Test Drive got killed off yet they could've been so much more.
As for the Pixel 4a 5G, I'm glad they at least gave us some choices in terms of form factor. Albeit not quite a Pixel 5 XL unfortunately :(
@@Black-Circle Yep, would have ordered the 5 if it had that headphone jack!
No question, the 4A 5G in Clearly White is the winner in my book. I woulda gone for the Sorta Sage 5, but that Tinny Speaker is a serious dealbreaker for me.
Great comparison review, that;s what I needed
Great run-down. Thank you.
I feel like I'm more drawn to the 4a 5g because it's right in the middle of being affordable but having everything you'd want in the 5. The pixel 5 not having a headphone jack is the biggest deal breaker for me personally
I will be getting the 4A tomorrow
how do you like it
Damn, nice Yoko wallpaper you used
Thanks man, straight to the point 👌, now I know what phone to get!
The extra screen width of the 4a 5G over the Pixel 5 (seen at: 8:27) made it an easy decision for me to go for the 4a 5G. It's a big difference if you read a lot on your phone.

Hi tech spurt keep up the good work just got the 4a a few days ago 👍🏻👍🏻 should have went with the 5g for the bigger screen
Great review
No headphone plug = bigger battery in a smaller form factor sounds good to me. I haven't used wired headphones in years!
How much space do you think removing a 3.5 mm jack saves? I doubt the space savings will be enough to increase the battery capacity significantly. At most 150mah, maybe?
@@sameerchakma You do know headphone plugs are long right? You would lose 3.5mm of depth. So unless they plan on using 2 or even 3 batteries they would lose the amount allocated to that area entirely.
Pixel 4a comes in a size that's a dying breed. So compact! 💪 Also Android 12 on it runs beautifully I love it so much!!
That's the max my jogging pouch fits. The new ones with screens bigger than 5.8" just don't fit, and are not even so ergonomic for single hand use. Of course unless you have BIGG hands.
Yes! And don't forget the weight too. Plastic is much lighter. That is why bought a 4a recently. Still haven't taken it out of the box yet. Seeing if there is a better deal coming up for Black Friday.
I have been debating which of these three Pixel's would be best for me for many months. I've had my current Pixel 2 for almost three years now. Looks like I'll be getting the Google Pixel 4a when my tax return hits. Thank you for creating such a great video explaining and comparing each of them!
I'm in the same situation now. Had a 2 for years and looking for a slight upgrade. Are you happy with the 4a?
Just ordered my Pixel 5 today can't wait💪🏻
how do you like it
Nobody talks about the fact, that 4G is better than 5G, when it comes to long range connections outside of cities...
Don't just automatically buy 5G
I appreciate Google's lack of emphasis on color and phone build aesthetics. To me it means they are putting they're effort into the phone itself.
I'm just going to throw a case and screen protector on it, regardless.
Outstanding! Thank you so much!
Really thanks. Really helpful!
Can you make a gaming/latency test of the google pixel buds.
4a the winner! It can do all what I need that's it
Great Reviews Chris. As you stated we are totally overun with new phones at the moment. After endless Spurty reviews I have ordered the PCO XL NFC. After years of high end Samsungs which have got stupidly expensive. Wanna buy a Note 10 ?
Great to see to see more high quality plastic phones on the marked
I think I would choose the 4a. I would prefer the ultrawide lens and bigger screen but not at a loss of 3 hrs screen on time
Good eye. Didn't notice that originally.
Dude, Pixel 5 would eventually have better battery than 4a. Takes some time to get used to your usage cycle
@@mouhamadyoussouf9320 This is what I'm thinking too
