I’m a health coach and my two cents is: Listen to your body and your natural hunger cues! Intermittent fasting works for some and not for others. I love your videos and it seems like you have a wonderful relationship with food. No reason to force yourself into an eating pattern that is not natural for you. You are eating healthy nourishing meals that are fuelling you! Keep it up!

    • @jenadams-shumpert6430
      @jenadams-shumpert6430 Місяць тому +4

Absolutely ANYBODY can call their self a health coach. Do the research on intermittent fasting please before “adding two cents”. There is not a single group that intermittent fasting does not “work for”. NONE. Longer term fasting can pose a issue for some more serious health issues, but it’s VERY few. (Fyi: IF has proven to stabilize blood sugars and heal diabetes and there are tons of study that prove those patients have come off insulin). And there are tons of reasons to force yourself into changing your eating patterns (aka habits) that you’ve gotten yourself into a natural pattern of, because majority of the time… American’s eating habits SUCK. We’re fed terrible information accompanied by terrible food! For example: my father, just diagnosed with cancer, was urged by his hospital assigned licensed registered dietician to eat cakes, ice cream and shakes to gain weight. (Among a ton of other terrible suggestions). Gain weight by eating the most terrible things he could eat, LACED in sugar which FEEDS cancer, destroys your immune system and provides NO Nutrition and macronutrients.
Intermittent fasting is extremely healthy! Evaluate when you eat most of your meals and most windows are 8 hours eating window. A lot of people successfully eat 11-7, or 12-8.. try not to eat when it’s dark out. The most beneficial time for your fasting is to extend it to at least 10am because of when you enter into the most healing and restoration times in the early morning. 2-4am and the longer you stay in that fasted state behind entering those house the more your body heals. Wake up, drink your water n teas to distract your hunger. Busy your mind with something like medication, quiet time, or going outside… sunrises are beneficial for our health as well, etc. get outdoors if you can. Go for it! Your health will thank you for it and great job in your perseverance!! That takes discipline! So kudos!!

I agree with listening to your body. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Fasting yielded no noticeable benefits for me. Delaying eating for long periods comes naturally for me which is why I maintained that eating pattern for so long. But, I honestly looked and felt better when I ate more frequently. I am also a certified health coach and I speak with many people who are having a great experience with fasting. I respect that.

I'm currently 18 hrs into a 24-hour fast. The key for me it to keep busy because I eat out of boredom. Last week I did 33 hrs and I could've kept going but I was going to be driving and wasn't sure how I was going to feel if I didn't eat.
One thing you can do is find an eating window that works for your lifestyle. For me, I eat between 5:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. because I prefer to eat breakfast and lunch.
I'm 3 yrs vegan thanks to your videos, 55 yrs old.

I have done intermittent fasting. What helps me is first, I go into prayer daily and ask the Lord for strength, discipline, focus, and clarity during the fast. Secondly, I set an alarm on my phone to remind me what time I can eat. I then set a second alarm 30 minutes before my eating period is to end as a reminder that I have 30 minutes left to eat. What I do is eat some food at the beginning of my eating time period, and then I eat again in the last 30 minutes of that time period. This helps me to have food on my stomach during my non-eating fast time. Lastly, to get me through my none eating time period, I stay focused on work, family, etc. After a few days, my body begins to adjust. FYI-I fast during 21 days and prayer with my church twice per year. Each time I fast, it gets easier and easier. I pray this is helpful to you. Let me know if I can help you further.

I'm not plant based but leaning more towards plant based proteins like lentils, chia, etc. Recently i made butternut squash lasagna TWICE in a row it was so good and my friends wanted it each time. I made "ricotta" using cashews, no pasta just squash and kale. So delish!

Hey Shakayla! First of all we (my 8 year old daughter and I) love your videos. For a few years I’ve been led spiritually to “go meatless”. I started a few times but I just couldn’t stick with it but after a little while of watching your channel and trying your recipes on your site we’ve been able to stick to plant based meals. I even had my best friend over a few weeks ago and we tried your broccoli cheddar soup. After she left I remade it and we ate it like 2-3 more days! Long story less long it was a hit! Lmbo. We genuinely appreciate you and your content!

Hey I just listened to a podcast from Zoe science about intermittent fasting. The biggest tip they had was to not start the morning / break your fast with anything other but water. Even plain tea can stimulate your hunger. Even drinking green tea can start triggering your body to become more hungry.

My name is Nika and I’ve been VEGAN-ish for about 3 years now. I am currently doing a juice fast( on day 17) I love salads potatoes popcorn and nuts. I truly enjoy all of your videos and tips( freezing the tofu ). When I’m done with my fast I plan on only having two cooked meals per week to incorporate more lentils n chick peas. I have really been enjoying eating raw foods instead of cooked. Keeps me feeling light 🤗

Hi! I'm not new but I rarely comment so sure I'll introduce myself! I'm not vegan but I do like plant based meals a few times a week. I do enjoy quick meals like 30 minutes active time or less meals because I don't feel like taking the time to cook. I also like a set it and forget it meals in the slow cooker because I don't have to take so much time on those. It is Spring And Summer time so the time I set aside to cook will be lessened. I'm all about Salads this time of year!

Just found your content through the algo! Those “meatballs” look really good. I do intermittent fasting. The key to avoid that starving feeling is by lowering your simple carb intake, ideally overall, but especially at your last meal. Lower carbs and a good amount of healthy fat will help stabilize your blood sugar, making you less likely to feel famished the next morning. Start slow (aim for 12 hours, then work your way up) and expect to miss the mark at times. Fasting can be for anybody, but getting started is not always easy. If you stick with it, and learn how to acclimate, it’ll eventually become second nature.

I’m doing intermittent fasting. I usually fast for 18 hours. I like it because I don’t have to count calories and it allows time for my food to truly digest. I also feel that my digestion is better because my tummy is empty. I’m testing to see if this brings me down to my ideal or healthy weight. I’m losing without the stress of how much food I’m consuming. That drives me crazy and stressing about food has been an issue for me. So, haha, intermittent fasting is working for me.

Feel good in my clothes and be able to wear loose fitting clothes that look amazing on me, clothes has always been very tight on me with no wiggle room and my body has to breathe ! Lol I have considered Raw vegan, cooked vegan, pestaterian, the mataterrean diet, juice fasting, vegetarian, and so many more and have already tried many of those Lol it's been a world wind and so difficult doing it alone! So thanks so much for your channel! 💓 I get most of my food from a Muslim food pantry, and they always have new things to try from every food category and diet plan! I need to try this vegan meatball recipe! I also do intermittent fasting and I'm currently on a 16:8 schedule and only eat between 12PM-8PM. Ending at 8PM puts my last meal close-ish to bedtime and usually helps me not feel hungry in the AM and I haven't had much trouble getting to 12PM without wanting to eat/cheat. But you have to find a schedule that works for you and your body for it to "stick." Drinking lots of water throughout the day helps (I sometimes add a TSP of ACV in there, at least in the AM) and my first meal is usually some type of smoothie or juice I make in my blender that day to keep me hydrated and get good nutrients (I sometimes mix my AG1 greens into those drinks). Good luck on your journey and thanks for the recipes (the harissa butter beans are top notch).

SN: I'm here for all the content (I just love your authenticity and how genuine you are)!
Regarding IF, I've been doing it for about 5 yrs and the best thing for me was to gradually decrease my window. I also base it on my normal daily routine to make it realistic for me.

Shakayla, welcome back! I’m so happy that you’re back! Congratulations on the move and yes, I’d love to see Seattle in one of your vlogs. I’ve been doing IF since May 18,2021. They key is hydration in the morning and lots of protein and veggies with your meals. Is Brandon still eating vegan? I’d love to see the cheeseburger egg rolls. Hubby and I aren’t vegan, but I LOVE your channel! I frequently try your recipes and just tweek them for us! Blessings ❤

Hello I'm new to your channel and about 2 months into my plant based journey. I intermittent fast and have been doing so for quite a while. I love all your recipes and all though I've always loved to cook, at 51 I'm discovering a brand new world of cooking and using food I've never tried before. I'm losing weight , feeling good, and I'm so excited for this chapter of my life

It gives me ideas as I learn how unlearn bad eating habits. I’m not sure if you have any skincare videos but I’d love to see that in addition to Seattle content.

Hello Shakayla, I recently became a follower of your channel and I have totally fallen in love with the salad you created with quinoa, tofu, kale, etc I love love love the sauce that you made with the PB protein powder. I've never tasted a dressing as delicious as this. I'd never eaten quinoa or tofu until I made this salad. I want to be healthy and realize I have to do things differently. Thank you for sharing your recipes and for being transparent with your diet.

Wow the tofu meatball dish looked beautiful. Your plating was on point! Ive tried a recipe where I brown the tofu first like roasting it in oven for a little and then mix like you did. Maybe that could help with firming up the inside.
I have a love/hate relationship with IF. I find drinking caffeine in the morning (either black coffee or unsweeteened tea) in the am helps a ton for decreasing the morning appetite.
So glad you are back, I love watching your journey.

I did 10-6 for a long time ,and now I only IF a couple days a week... also I'm transitioning to wfpb diet, so I'm here for allll the meal ideas lol

I was doing intermittent fasting for some time unknowingly (it was something the Lord led me to do as a fast where I basically only ate from 12-8 PM, sometimes 7 PM); I lost a lot of weight as a result but also when I “normalized” my eating habits, I gained the weight back and then some. So I don’t think it’s sustaining for a lifestyle change, but you will lost weight fairly quickly. If you don’t plan on doing it forever, you might gain it back.
Now losing weight wasn’t a goal of mine as I did it out of obedience and found out it was intermittent fasting later, lol, but noticed once I stopped the weight came back which was a downside for me and I also had to heal from the way I saw food as a result from that time. That was all apart of the journey for me.
So I think it could produce unhealthy mindsets and relationships with food (and even fasting), so I refrain from it for that reason. The fasting was just a season for me! But, if you want to lose weight quickly and don’t care about sustaining or you want to do it your whole life, it may work for you. Though idk long term results, medically. But it could also create negative emotional and mental results because of the restrictions, rules, and mindsets that could come up about food as a result of intermittent fasting and you’d have to be active about healing from it so it doesn’t impact you negatively, longterm.
I know this was pretty long but I hope it helps!!!
Praying all goes well with your journey! ❤ I know as you seek God, He will lead you! 🎉🙏🏾

So if you want some ideas, I went to a non vegan place the other day that has vegan options…and it’s an amazing idea, it’s a Japanese version of Chipotle…and you get sushi burritos…so in mine was white rice, avocado, sautéed shitake mushrooms, caramelized onions, jalapeño, cilantro, sesame seeds, onion straws, teriyaki sauce, and a house made sauce…it was AMAZING…you could make a sushi burrito like that and add vegan spicy mayo
