    My money in terms the busiest time, no guarantees, would be middle/end of July to middle August, especially on the Portuguese Camino. There is an event called the World Youth Day held in Lisbon from July 31-August 6, and many would have done the Camino beforehand as it coincides with the Feast Day of St. James come July 25. Some more, like me, would walk the Camino after the event.

    Was in Spain in January 2023. The only mandatory requirement for masks was (1) when entering Farmacias, Hospitals and other healthcare facilities; (2) when travelling on public transport. Of course, individual buildings may impose their own requirements.

      Fortunately since wearing a mask on public transport is no longer required

    Hi Jeremiah. Love the videos….I’m doing the Sarria route with my wife in May for our debut together! Having watched a nearly all of your videos, I was wondering what video, editing, microphone and background music you use? Would you mind sharing please? ( I’m looking to start a youtube channel to help older people with a few specific health issues. Thanks…. And keep up the great videos please.

    Love watching your videos. When is your next walk? We are starting in SJPP April 20 and would love to bump into you along the way.

      Hi Michael! I will have a group leaving Ponferrada on May 22 and arriving in Santiago about June 3. I'm guessing you will be at least a week ahead of me unless you are taking plenty of rest days.
      Thanks for the encouragement!

    Oh no. We are planning to walk July- august. Yes the busiest time but sadly due to work commitments.
    Really worried about accommodations. Hoping they do add supply to meet demands.

      If I were walking from St Jean in July of this year, here is what I would do. I would make some guesses about when I would reach Sarria. I would reserve rooms each night from Sarria to Santiago. If I get off schedule from being able to use those rooms, I would make a decision about whether they are going to be needed based on how busy the Camino had been to that point.
      If you don't need them, call the places and cancel and stay on track. If reservations are absolutely needed, do what you need to do get on that schedule.

      Don't walk the Frances, walk the beautiful Del Norte instead.

      @@johangerryts1452 I have two things to say about camino cyclists, 1) there were no bikes in the 12th Century, 2) having walked 5 x caminos, you are more likely to be badly injured by a bunch of crazy mountain bike cyclists than by anything else.

      @@johangerryts1452 if you go to the official pilgrim office website, you can change the language to English at the top. Then go to the stats page and get annual stats for past years or monthly stats for present year. It says the percentage for each mode of travle

    Is it super challenging for vegan pilgrims??

    • @alysondavies
      @alysondavies Рік тому +1

      I walked as a vegan pilgrim in 2015, it was not the easiest. We cooked for ourselves a lot and hauled food from bigger centres to smaller towns. However I think this has changed a bit. Crystal from Valhalla Adventure ( ua-cam.com/video/5hw9uvy1gCg/v-deo.html ) seems to be vegan on her walk last year, and it looks way more fruitful than my 2015 experience.

    Watching your video just emphasises to me why I will never walk the Frances. This year I am walking the lovely quiet Via de La Plata. What on earth is the attraction of the Frances?

    • @CaminoGuide
      @CaminoGuide  Рік тому +7

      I think it all comes down to what you are looking for. The reason I walk Camino is the connection with the community. If I wanted solitude I’d walk the Appalachian Trail here in the states. What I love about Camino is the dozens of conversations each day.

      I walked from Astorga to Sarria last year in October. Everyday I was so worried that I would not get a bed. I got turned away in Foncebedon and Villafranca. What I read about the Via de La Plata is that the alburges are far apart and that it is hot as hell. I am considering a Camino from Ourense.

      @@timdettmann4067 You are correct about the weather, there is a small window of opportunity starting in early May, when I am going. Then for 50 -60 days, you are walking due North/Northeast so no problems.

      @@timdettmann4067 A friend of mine walked Ourense to Santiago last summer (arriving in Santiago late July), and she loved the experience. Some other pilgrims so not totally isolated, but not at all crowded like the last 100km on the Frances can be at that time of the year. Plus, I've heard that this is the nicest approach into Santiago!

      @@NadineWalks Hi Nadine, I watch and subscribe to your channel. You are such an experienced pilgrim, I am surprised that you have not walked from Ourense. I had a 3 hour train delay in Ourense, it was a wonderful city that is why I am considering a Camino from there. There is no info on UA-cam about a Camino from Ourense.
