Currently going through a divorce(it's amicable)...and planning on living life differently..doing the things I always planned on doing and didn't because I got married and settled down. I need to heal my soul and feed my wanderlust. So I am starting to plan for my first Camino, This video and other videos like it are going to be a huge help. Wish me luck.

I enjoyed the movie, The Way. But you must be aware that much of it does not give a real picture of the Camino. Primarily, the backpacks they care are not what you need for a Camino. Unless you are planning on camping your pack should only carry a change of clothes and few pairs of underwear and maybe four pairs of wool socks. You should have warm but light weight coat and a pair of long underwear. If you hike in the Spring you will get rained on, so a good poncho and a wide brimmed hat for rain and sun is a must. Forget carrying books, you can get the info you need with your smart phone. If you are not properly prepared and caught in the rain and soaked hypothermia is a possibility. Many auberges have no heat, so if you are cold and wet, you need dry and warm clothes. Thus the need for long underwear. I speak from personal experience. When walking you should take off your shoes or boots and thoroughly check your for emerging blisters. Change into a new pair of dry socks. If you are worried about steep trails you can just hike the meseta which is mostly flat. I would not walk the trail from mid June until mid September. Why? Too damn hot and too many people. I really like early May through mid June. The fields are green and edges of the trail are lined with wildflowers and particularly the bright red poppies. My experience is that the older folks make it to Santiago and young people over tax their bodies and drop out. Slow and steady like a tortuga is the vest plan. I'm 76 and plan to do another camino. I'll slow down and do more investigating towns I walked through hurriedly on past Caminos. For your info, The Way will be re-released with parts added that were edited out. Also a sequel in is the making. Good luck. If you stick it out through the difficult times as your long used muscles begin to cry out, then after 2 weeks you'll begin the process of getting stronger and stronger everyday. When you get to Santiago your pants should be falling. Good luck and buen Camino...Ultreia!

I'm lucky to be a blister free walker too. I blame my luck on litres and litres of water. Another of my top tips is don't carry water into town carry it out and drink it on the Camino 😂 you can never drink too much water and it makes the wine taste even better with you menu.

I did the Camino from St Jean, things to do, 1. train, get fit, I walked 10 km a day for a year before I walked 2. Buy good footwear and break it in 3. Take a warm jacket 4. Take a pack cover so your pack doesn’t get wet in the rain, 5. Don’t rush and allow yourself time to look and feel the Camino. If you’re walking at Easter, get to a big town and remember everything shuts down on Easter Sunday

All good information, and your presentation is so darned cute. Here are my ideas...
    1. Don't overdo. Better to take an extra day or two and avoid injury.
    2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!!!
    3. Dress in layers.
    4. Wear shoes you have broken in. Never wear brand new shoes! Insert some insoles that will cushion your feet.
    5. Pack light! There is no need to bring more than the minimum. Good socks are a must. A light weight rain jacket with a hood, a warm sweater and a hat against the sun.

Plus my ability to travel is negated by several factors,at the moment. If I ever could,I'd love to do just a short stretch maybe six miles over one day. That'd be enough for me. The blister question!!! For me, pop the blister, drain the fluid and then apply a compeed or plaster. I found if you don't pop it, it is still really painful. I've never used iodine or similar, just wash the area with water, although I'm sure medically trained folks will tell me I'm wrong. Switching from boots on the first camino to trail runners on every subsequent one meant I've only had one or two blisters over 4 or 5 caminos since the original blisterthon.

The key is to pop with skin intact. I come in with a sterile (flame or alcohol does the trick) pin from outside the blister's perimiter, under the skin and into the fluid sac at a very shallow angle, and drain that way. This results in a very small break in the skin, away from the actual damaged area, and keeps that cover in place. You do not want to expose that tender dermis under the fluid.

Hi, enjoyed your vid! Finally someone mentions stretching! - very nice.
Does nobody know about "stag-fat" (this is a literal translation from the German word "Hirschtalg")? It's the very best thing to prevent blisters. Sounds a little weird, but its like a stick, the solidity as a lipstick. In Germany you get those in the pharmacy, it doesn't cost much. If you treat your feet beforehand with this stick, it makes the skin smooth an more elastic - most of the time you then get NO blisters! :-))

I also had clips on my pack to allow me to hang damp clothes to dry while I walked. I also had a billed cap with a “veil” (like a legionnaires Kepi) to keep sun off my neck, naturally I had good sunglasses and sun screen.
