Thank you for making this video. I really enjoyed it. As a longtime player of Super Mario World, however, I did notice a couple things that were incorrect. -Iggy's Castle: I noticed you said you had to do a "duck jump" as small Mario to avoid those coins in an arc in the second room, when in fact you did a spin jump. Small Mario's hitbox and jump height don't change when you're crouched anyway. Also, I was able to clear that jump as big Mario with a very light tap duck jump on the edge of the gap. -Vanilla Dome 1: you said that without Yoshi or the Red Switch Palace, you couldn't make it to the secret exit. It's actually possible to do one of two other ways: take a beetle shell with you, wait for it to just about wake up, then jump and drop it. You'll bounce off of it and do what we call a "beetle jump" to achieve the height, or fly with the cape. Yes, it is actually possible to achieve flight on that tiny 5 tile ground with precise turnarounds to build p-speed. -Ludwig's Castle: You said there are no coins in this level, but there are actually two areas with coins that are really easy to miss. The first is at the end of the first room; the square block in the ceiling is actually a false block that you can jump through, and to the right there is a pipe that leads you to a bonus game where you can in fact collect coins. The second is in the 3rd room (the net climbing room), but you have to veer to the far right of the room which you may never do because climbing straight up makes the most sense. -Chocolate Fortress: Another level you mentioned there being no coins in, but in the second room, there are 3 question blocks between two thwomps; the first contains a mushroom (or feather if you're already big), and the other two contain coins. -Wendy's Castle: Not really anything incorrect here, but one thing I saw you point out, which I thought was interesting, was not getting crushed between that moving square block and descending pillar. Normally, if you were on solid ground, that pillar would in fact squish you, but what's misleading about that is that the square moving block isn't true ground; it's actually a sprite. Sprite platforms behave in a different way than regular ground, so, as silly as it looks, you can be pushed right through them like that. -Sunken Ghost Ship: You had made an assumption about finding a p-switch. You said that if you could find a p-switch, maybe you could turn the coins into breakable blocks. The p-switch in Super Mario World never turns coins into breakable blocks, only brown blocks which are the same as if you hit a coin block. You may be thinking of Mario Maker where the coins do in fact turn into yellow turnblocks which can be broken by Mario when he's spinjumping and big. After all, seriously a great video, an absolute pleasure to watch, and nothing I've pointed out is meant to be a put down in any way; I've just spent WAY too much time with this game not to notice literally everything. Thank you so much for the video, I shall certainly subscribe, and hope to see more like this in the future. 💙
Yeah but he also thought the dolphin level was impossible without going above, but you can just swim under the fish. Edit: I forgot for the minute but he also doesn't seem to know you can throw enemies at blocks to hit them.
There are several things i'd like to point out that would've helped make this "no coins" run a lot simpler or easier. 1. Taking damage in Roy's castle isn't necessarily a "mess up", on a lot of stages deliberately taking damage to use the invincibility frames to skip coins could be considered "damage boosting" 2. The blue switch palace's coins could've been skipped easier if you just held Y to pick up the P switch then kick it or let it go behind you for both of them. Sometimes Jumpman doesn't NEED to jump. 3. Blue shells are your friends! Any colored Yoshi can fly for a short while when he has a Blue Koopa Shell in his mouth (Like Vanilla Dome 1) , just spit it out after you're done flying to avoid an accidental +1 coin 4. In Donut Secret Lake, you could TECHNICALLY (however it requires super precise timing and a lot of luck) get the key to the secret exit without picking up coins. You take the P switch back to where you can see some blue blocks in the water, hit the switch, grab a blue block (which lets you swim faster too like the p-switch) and kick it at the ? block that has the key in it just before the P-switch timer is up. If you do it JUST right, then when you hit the ? block and it pops the key up, the resulting coin under the key reverts to a brown block, thus allowing you to safely pick up the key and move on to Donut Secret Ghost House. However, take care to pick up the blue block at the right time, since it does disappear after a while on it's own. Timing is key! Literally! 5. In Donut Plains 3 (i think) you can duck under a lot of the coins on the spinning platform, HOWEVER, you can refer to my third point, since there are blue koopas there. 6. Learn how to glide! Flying with Mario isn't just fun, but also lets you go off-screen at the top of the level, allowing you to virtually skip ANY and EVERY coin (and level...) 7. If you don't want to cheat with flying, then bring a Yoshi with you to as many levels as you can! Jumping off of Yoshi can give you a jump height much higher in any non-castle or non-ghost house level that would make jumping over some tricky coins more viable than jumping under them. 8. Cape Spin! any Chucks can be immediately killed if you spam Y to cape spin as soon as you jump on them (while not holding B to gain a higher jump off of their heads)
Well... Yes and no. You can use two player to carry luigi around so he does nothing but the other character is doing all the work. (If i ruined the joke tell me and i will delete this comment)

galaxy would be easy coz the main focus is star bits... wait! galaxy with no star bits lolol wait its impossible. the second star in good egg has a hungry luma...
@A shy trap Without collecting coins, it's possible to get to the Star World from Donut Plains (Donut Secret 1 requires a tricky shell kick at the ? block containing the key just as the P-switch effect is about to run out), Vanilla Dome (easy, as shown in this video), and Forest of Illusion (use a cape to fly off the top of the screen and over a wall in the Forest Ghost House to completely skip the area that has the impassable coins). However, it's not possible to reach Star World from Soda Lake below the Twin Bridges, because of impassable coins in Vanilla Dome 2, which is along the path that needs to be taken to reach Cheese Bridge Area and Soda Lake.
I mentioned them all already, except for Valley of Bowser, but that's a special case, since Valley of Bowser is your destination when using the Star World to shortcut to the end of the game. I'll summarize them again, in detail this time. First Star World entrance is from Donut Plains. To get there, go through these courses and exits: -Donut Plains 1, secret exit (Easy enough to reach coinless, especially if the Green Switch Palace is active.) -Donut Secret 1, secret exit (Tricky, but possible. Grab a Koopa shell from the P-balloon area, hit the P-switch in the main underwater area, avoid the coin arrow that appears, don't lose the shell to any enemies, and toss the shell at the ? block containing the key with the right timing just as the P-switch effect is ending.) -Donut Secret House, secret exit (Pretty easy.) Second Star World entrance is from Vanilla Dome. To get there: -Vanilla Dome 1, secret exit (Easy enough with Yoshi.) -Vanilla Secret 1, secret exit (Easy with either the Blue Switch Palace or a cape, and the level itself provides Cape Feathers in a couple ? blocks.) Third Star World entrance is south of the Twin Bridges. To get there: -Vanilla Dome 1, normal exit (No major problem.) -Vanilla Dome 2, normal exit (Impossible, unfortunately, due to the unavoidable coins at 6:04.) -Vanilla Ghost House (Extremely tricky to do coinless, due to the coin outline surrounding the P-switch door leading to the exit, but it's technically possible to slip in from below with cape flight.) -Vanilla Dome 3 (No major problem.) -Vanilla Dome 4 (No major problem.) -#3 Lemmy's Castle (No major problem.) -Cheese Bridge Area, secret exit (Best done with both a cape and Yoshi. Somewhat tricky to dodge the coins in the level, but definitely not impossible.) -Soda Lake (Some coins float around this level, but all are avoidable.) So, all because of Vanilla Dome 2, it's impossible to reach this Star World entrance coinless. Fourth Star World entrance is from Forest of Illusion. To get there: -Forest of Illusion 1, secret exit (Easy.) -Forest Ghost House, exit that leads west (Enter the level with a cape, and after clearing the narrow hallway in the first section, fly up and to the left, off the top of the screen and over a wall. This skips the second section with the impassable coins. After flying over the wall, enter the first door you encounter to reach the exit you want.) -Forest of Illusion 4, secret exit (Easy, especially by stealing Lakitu's cloud or flying with a cape.) -Forest Secret Area (Coins are everywhere, but the entire course can be flown over with a cape. However, the 1-ups behind the goal are a problem as they turn into coins when the goal is hit. Either fly off the top of the screen to go behind the goal and collect the 1-ups first, or stand just to the left of the goal and press L to scroll the screen left so that the 1-ups aren't on-screen when the goal is hit.) -Forest Fortress (Easy.) And, the fifth and final Star World entrance is from Valley of Bowser. The coins in the last part of the Sunken Ghost Ship prevent reaching the Valley of Bowser coinless normally, but that's a moot point, since Valley of Bowser is your destination when travelling through the Star World as a shortcut to beat the game.
This is one of, if not my favorite game of all time! I just love it! I love everything from the art, to music, to the levels. It was epic as a kid to play this when it was newish.
@Luiz Cabrerisso Good answer! My take is you can live in the USA without touching a single dollar quite easily. You simply touch multiple dollars, not a single dollar.
At the end of the game it says Mario,Peach, and Yoshi will take a vacation so here is the alternant ending. Peach:So Mario are you ready to take a vaca to Hawaii Mario:Uhh I have no money Peach:why Mario:I don't know Yoshi: *NEED FOOD* Peach:😐
Nice playthrough! I've noticed that in some parts of the levels (like Donut Plains 3 at 4:38 or Vanilla Dome 1 at 6:20), you could've had Yoshi swallow a Blue Shell to fly over the Coin-Infested Areas/get to the Secret Exit.
this challenges are very enjoyable, will you try to do like this with other games but mario (other scoring plataforms or any other type of challenge)? Im already trying some not famous platforms games with lowest score possible and i cant stop playing lul
15:20 How did you get a Blue Yoshi without feeding it to make it grow up? And each time you feed a Yoshi, the item or enemy turns into an automatic coin 2:27. The Blue Yoshi lets you fly no matter the turtle shell color, and that was used to get to the key in this instance, so I'm not sure if this counts. Edit: Just tested it out on my Super Nintendo. 15:26 there are some red blocks you could walk across, but remember that the switch to those is on a path blocked by a level that forces you to collect coins. An easy way around this is to pass over the keyhole along the blocks above, and then jump off the ledge and cape glide backward to the keyhole platform. No red switch, fancy cape flying, or Yoshi sacrificing required. So it is still possible to defeat Bowser without collecting a coin. Although that Blue Yoshi in the video is still questionable.
@Victor Luiz Martins de Sousa It actually shows right here 2:44 that even eating the star adds to the coin count. Edit: never mind, you're right. In that frame Yoshi eats a fish and a star, and only the fish counts as a coin. I tested it out on my Super Nintendo being careful not to eat any fish, and eating only the star kept the coin count at 0
Pretty sure Donut Secret 1's key exit is possible without getting coins. You just need to set things up. There are purple throw blocks near where the P-switch spawns. If you kill all the fishes in the way beforehand, you can definitely make the trip to the key block with a throw block, activating the P-switch while you go (as you surely know, Mario's horizontal swimming speed is much greater if he holds an item). After you hit the block (you do have to be as close as possible to make it), the key spawns and gets bopped upwards, and *in theory* there's enough time to grab it before it falls through the coin line. You have the time to do this only because you're underwater, and the key's spawning animation is slowed down considerably. If you don't want to grab the key, you can also time the P-switch so that the key block (which will become a coin as soon as you hit it) returns solid before the key sinks through the line. It's hard, but possible.
@@bleakslug You can probably glitch the opening to skip buying the shield. Also, what 200 ruppees for Jabu Jabu? If you're talking about the fish, you can just catch one with your bottle.
This game gives me such nostalgia My brother had this game for game boy advanced, I always wanted to play it and would get soooooo excited if he left it on the table, about 10 went by and I found my pink ds lite, realized it has a gba port, and got the idea. Went on amazon, searched and searched for this game (I didn't know the name, and as a non-gamer all the names would blend together in my head. Finally found it, $30 and 2 days later I spent all day just playing and enjoying what I couldn't for so long. Best time of my life.
Raocow did it some years ago. IIRC he tried to 100% the game without touching a coin. He used a hacked ROM that automatically killed him when he touched a coin. It had a bypass for when not touching a coin was impossible. I remember there being a very tricky jump at the end of one of the special stages. It was a Dragon Coin at the end of the ice level.
Super mario world is my favorite Mario game ever. I grew up with a SNES, and it was the first game I ever played it. When I got older I was like "man, i wish I could make levels for this game" having no idea one day, I would be doing just that. Nostalgia is kicking in 😌
Actually, there is a way of entering star road in donut island (donut secret 1). You will need the p-switch and a shell(obtainable in the underground area), hit the p-switch and swin with the shell to the key block, then, simply trow the shell in the block sideways making sure to time it right, otherwise the key will fall under the coins, so timing it will make it possible to: hit the block with the shell(p-switch effect almost ending), the key will fly up from out of the block and it will land in the blocks(that were coins a fraction of a second before)
You know that you can fly over the levels and easily avoid a lot of coins... You also can beat any normal exit using orb glitch, so Sunken Ghost Ship is possible
There's an easier way to get to the secret exit in vanilla dome 1: Yoshi grows wings and gains the ability to fly anytime he holds a blue turtle shell in his mouth, so just grab that blue turtle shell on top of the yellow row of blocks, and simply fly up to the keyhole.
Try this featureless challenge: 1-Small mario only. 2-No stars 3-No ballon 4-No holding or using yoshi. 5-Must get less than 100 coins at the entire run. 6-No 1-up or moon. 7-Can't get points at the at the gate at the end of stage. 8-Can't use secrets, unless really necessary (you will need to use one at forest of illusion). 9-No yellow, green..... switches.
It's been almost 3 decades since first playing Super Mario World and I now just noticed the Yoshi coins has a picture of Yoshi head and neck and facing to the left. All this time I thought the coin was a weird face with one eye and a big nose lol.
Forest Ghost House can be beaten with touching a coin. You can use a cape to fly over the wall at the end of the narrow hallway to get to the door near the start.
Props on playing as far through the game as possible without the star world. You really only missed a few levels in between where the two paths connect again.

Can You Complete Super Mario Galaxy (1) Without Touching A Single Coin??
galaxy would be easy coz the main focus is star bits... wait! galaxy with no star bits lolol
wait its impossible. the second star in good egg has a hungry luma...
MysticCraft MC there is coin
you could also have accessed the secret exit in the ghost house, which gives you a area to restock on LIVES and powerups
You mean Top Secret Area from Donut Ghost House? He clearly did that at some point, as you can see him getting Yoshi from there at 6:35 in this video.
@A shy trap
Without collecting coins, it's possible to get to the Star World from Donut Plains (Donut Secret 1 requires a tricky shell kick at the ? block containing the key just as the P-switch effect is about to run out), Vanilla Dome (easy, as shown in this video), and Forest of Illusion (use a cape to fly off the top of the screen and over a wall in the Forest Ghost House to completely skip the area that has the impassable coins).
However, it's not possible to reach Star World from Soda Lake below the Twin Bridges, because of impassable coins in Vanilla Dome 2, which is along the path that needs to be taken to reach Cheese Bridge Area and Soda Lake.
Which other world are you referring to?
I mentioned them all already, except for Valley of Bowser, but that's a special case, since Valley of Bowser is your destination when using the Star World to shortcut to the end of the game. I'll summarize them again, in detail this time.
First Star World entrance is from Donut Plains. To get there, go through these courses and exits:
-Donut Plains 1, secret exit (Easy enough to reach coinless, especially if the Green Switch Palace is active.)
-Donut Secret 1, secret exit (Tricky, but possible. Grab a Koopa shell from the P-balloon area, hit the P-switch in the main underwater area, avoid the coin arrow that appears, don't lose the shell to any enemies, and toss the shell at the ? block containing the key with the right timing just as the P-switch effect is ending.)
-Donut Secret House, secret exit (Pretty easy.)
Second Star World entrance is from Vanilla Dome. To get there:
-Vanilla Dome 1, secret exit (Easy enough with Yoshi.)
-Vanilla Secret 1, secret exit (Easy with either the Blue Switch Palace or a cape, and the level itself provides Cape Feathers in a couple ? blocks.)
Third Star World entrance is south of the Twin Bridges. To get there:
-Vanilla Dome 1, normal exit (No major problem.)
-Vanilla Dome 2, normal exit (Impossible, unfortunately, due to the unavoidable coins at 6:04.)
-Vanilla Ghost House (Extremely tricky to do coinless, due to the coin outline surrounding the P-switch door leading to the exit, but it's technically possible to slip in from below with cape flight.)
-Vanilla Dome 3 (No major problem.)
-Vanilla Dome 4 (No major problem.)
-#3 Lemmy's Castle (No major problem.)
-Cheese Bridge Area, secret exit (Best done with both a cape and Yoshi. Somewhat tricky to dodge the coins in the level, but definitely not impossible.)
-Soda Lake (Some coins float around this level, but all are avoidable.)
So, all because of Vanilla Dome 2, it's impossible to reach this Star World entrance coinless.
Fourth Star World entrance is from Forest of Illusion. To get there:
-Forest of Illusion 1, secret exit (Easy.)
-Forest Ghost House, exit that leads west (Enter the level with a cape, and after clearing the narrow hallway in the first section, fly up and to the left, off the top of the screen and over a wall. This skips the second section with the impassable coins. After flying over the wall, enter the first door you encounter to reach the exit you want.)
-Forest of Illusion 4, secret exit (Easy, especially by stealing Lakitu's cloud or flying with a cape.)
-Forest Secret Area (Coins are everywhere, but the entire course can be flown over with a cape. However, the 1-ups behind the goal are a problem as they turn into coins when the goal is hit. Either fly off the top of the screen to go behind the goal and collect the 1-ups first, or stand just to the left of the goal and press L to scroll the screen left so that the 1-ups aren't on-screen when the goal is hit.)
-Forest Fortress (Easy.)
And, the fifth and final Star World entrance is from Valley of Bowser. The coins in the last part of the Sunken Ghost Ship prevent reaching the Valley of Bowser coinless normally, but that's a moot point, since Valley of Bowser is your destination when travelling through the Star World as a shortcut to beat the game.
5:27 Nico, you could actually go to the sub-area with the Parakoopas, grab one of their shells and kick it at this block.

@Luiz Cabrerisso Good answer! My take is you can live in the USA without touching a single dollar quite easily. You simply touch multiple dollars, not a single dollar.

My brother had this game for game boy advanced, I always wanted to play it and would get soooooo excited if he left it on the table, about 10 went by and I found my pink ds lite, realized it has a gba port, and got the idea.

Is it possible to beat Mario world with no yoshi abuse?
Henry Ham oui, oui!
When Mario was hit by a koopa, don’t worry as I survived the fall by infinite Fluttering off screen.
Actually, there is a way of entering star road in donut island (donut secret 1).
You will need the p-switch and a shell(obtainable in the underground area), hit the p-switch and swin with the shell to the key block, then, simply trow the shell in the block sideways making sure to time it right, otherwise the key will fall under the coins, so timing it will make it possible to: hit the block with the shell(p-switch effect almost ending), the key will fly up from out of the block and it will land in the blocks(that were coins a fraction of a second before)
I love this, great idea. There is a lot of play with the mechanics of SMW.

Try this featureless challenge:
1-Small mario only.
2-No stars
3-No ballon
4-No holding or using yoshi.
5-Must get less than 100 coins at the entire run.
6-No 1-up or moon.
7-Can't get points at the at the gate at the end of stage.
8-Can't use secrets, unless really necessary (you will need to use one at forest of illusion).
9-No yellow, green..... switches.
