- Ministry - Breathe (live, North American tour '89-'90). The lineup is a virtual "all-stars" of hard electro, including Nivek Ogre of Skinny Puppy, Martin Atkins of Pigface, and singer Chris Connelly.
"Ministry here are at their peak, as far as live performance goes."(J.Brady)
Greatest drum intro. Ever
best ever seen
This is how will always remember Ministry
they were so way ahead of their time, and still they have a type of sound thats barely even been explored in the music industry still. you can see the heavy influence they had on nin and manson in their early years. now a days though you dont see anyone being this creative
FACT!! I started listening to Ministry as a young teen, and always idolized Al as a musical genius. I mean seriously, how ORIGINAL he always was (is). It's just so awesome!! 🤘🤘
Especially in the early 80s
Yeah in high school..he influenced alot
First heard Ministry in a punk rock bar in Buffalo , the Continental late 80s, loved their music especially Over The Shoulder. Recently saw them live in Buffalo New York for the first time...they Rocked , I love them!
Richard Devine has been around for Decades and He is still on the crest of creativity Tsunamis
Best show ever. I thought I was gonna die. Loved it.
you were there????!!!!
Aren't all ministry shows like that lol
i was ALWAYS pulled up after dying in the pit - alas to b 16 and fuck all
Best thing about this video (besides Ministry kicking some serious ass!).
Nobody is holding up their phone. They're just moshing, jumping, and having a blast...how music should be experienced.
GenevaRob72 Ministry used to be the BEST band to go see in concert in the 90s. Came home sweaty and bruised and wiped out, but man they were something special. I’d never be able to handle these concerts now. Lol
Our phones were still hooked to the wall back then Homie. ANd they would have been the last thing on our minds because everyone we loved was there with us. Coolest thing about the skinny dude - crowd surfing an entire song. Some of the best days for sure my friend, for sure!! When this fired up it felt like it was coming from inside your soul and joining the crowd into one unstoppable monster. And I was totally sober, but the show was Dope AF. Great observations !!!
You are one of those people who believes 30 years ago, was better. Having it easier, really is better.....honestly.
Who gives a shit HOW people enjoy the music? I would have been the dude bringing a camcorder to the show in the '90s. I really enjoyed watching the shows again years later. I get to relive the memory, just like people taking video with a phone.
nah trust me some of us still tried lugging in a giant vhs camera in our girlfriends purse back then. but it wasnt easy lol
Best drum intro duo of all time! Fucking love it!
When I had on VHS I would play it over and over again!
I can hear why!
Some day the world will catch up with the Ministry.
Probably not
The guy cowboy dancin at 6:00 always cracks me up.
Agreed. I used to watch this intro over and over again. It was the first time that I'd experienced two drummers playing full kits together... and then the guitars kicked in. What a rush!
Butthole surfers used two drummers
American woman
I just met Martin Atkins a couple months ago. Nicest guy!
I dont know what youre watching????
First saw as a 13rd old stoned on pot & the music, lights, visuals all moving in track bleeeew me away!!!
For pure alternative punk brutality can't go far past MINISTRY!!!!
Ministry at their best. One of the best intros ever. Very tribal (like Killing Joke). I wish this tune as well as all of the live set was released with the live EP when it came out.
Live Necronomicon got you covered.
sounds better than any studio album by al. mezzo jazz tv should pick it up
Sorry there , you are right , it´s just that at the time we didn´t consider " * edit : (wtf, this might be early signs of dementia or sth ) In case you didn´t feel like showing up " ( the cd ) as an EP . We just referrd to it as a live album , and that is where I assumed it had the same content the VHS cassette did ( which is a mistake ) . You are absolutely right ( not sure about the EP though , since , believe it or not , this came out at a time when Vinyl was getting substituted by cd at an alarming rate - curious times , you would be surprised to see almost everybody exchanging their Vinyls by cds - a highly over hyped novelty was what it was ... not much has changed , huh ? ) .
I bought this album on wax and I was sad this wasn’t on there….still idk why it wasn’t…still a killer piece of history I’m proud to own!!!!
Considering Martin Atkins was the drummer for Killing Joke the comparison the their drum sound is apt.
Still watch the intro over and over
atkins and reiflin on drums with ogilvie, buck, and connelly on vocals, good ole paul barker
Connelly only sang So What on this video, he did keyboards for the test of the set. Al sang
Wax Trax and Metro, Chicago was the place to be for this brand of Industrial mayhem. I wish I had seen more.
Fuck bad ass that all I can say old school rocks kids take notes
Going to "off the alley"
Best fucking show I have ever seen..and I've seen hundreds. KMFDM was opening, they were practically nobodies back then...the fence...THE FENCE!!!
I saw them at Mississippi Nights on this tour in 89' in St. Louis. And it was pretty much just like the video. It is a bit hard to really describe such a show in such a small venue. Only about 150 people there, most drove down from Chicago I guess.
I knew their songs before seeing them for the first time here but I was pretty much in shock. Not from the antics, but from the sheer wall of sound. I think I just stood in the area behind the crowd surfers with my jaw resting on the floor. Epic!
Probably some were from Houston
I'd chew off my right arm to go back in time and be at this show
how bout your left?
same!
I don't need to I saw them on this tour.
I want to have this played at my funeral...
Amazing and will never be replicated again.
Wäre nicht schlecht🎉
Early NIN is like a Ministry cover band. The influence is undeniable.
This was the begining of a new "Sound"!!! you obviously didnt get it!!!
Trent was a Jourgensen groupie.
The Channel in Boston. The fence is ripped down and passed around in the crowd. People up in the ceiling. Definitely one of the shows that I thought I might not come out of alive. I think those are the facts.
Man I wish the album version began like that. I'd have it on an endless fucking loop.
I WAS THERE!!!! BEST CONCERT EVER!!!!
The drum intro is unbelievable, love this version better than the album version. The anticipation build up kicks ass!
I was there as well. My neck hurt SO bad from head banging and I could not hear anything below a car horn, as well as all the usual pit bruising. It was brutally cool.
Stop lying.
@@djefferson5669 So are you always a dick or just on UA-cam?
@@djefferson5669 he can't stop if he never started
Bill Lieb and Martin Atkins in drums❤. What a time to be alive
Bill was beating the machine
AH-MAZING. LOVE this video - still have the VHS version.
me too
One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Miami 1990
Jan/90 Toronto
En 1990 los escuché por primera vez y me volaron la cabeza . Inventaron todo . Saludos desde argentina
I TORE this left side fence at the Boston show @ THE CHANNEL. Al said in all his touring no one ever did it. I TORE through that Mother!
Your passion and conviction compel me to believe you.
Yeah this lineup/era was insane. Glad there is plenty of footage!
Just love the 2 drummers idea
Watched these guys open for NIN last night, god it was fucking heavy
I'm 18 in 88 and 3 of my top 5 all time albums dropped that yr. South of Heaven, Justice, and Mind. Only 2 albums top em. Zep 1 and Highway ;-)
Uncle Al is a God
One of my favourite CDs growing up
Changed my life!
I saw them at Fitchburg, MA, when Sepultura was the cover band about 20 years ago (I am freaking old!!!)...Sepultura just released a cover of "Just One Fix" which isn't half bad.
Saw them in Milwaukee on this tour. KMFDM was the opening act. Wildest mosh pit I’ve ever been in.
Greatest concert video of all time!
the fact that no one has voted this a thumbs down only speaks towards its awesomeness. I was a huge fan in college. Nothing like walking through the worst part of KC blaring this thru headphones on the way to class everyday.
being there must have been awesome, its timeless music
Been chipping away at this bands songs since 2009.. never find a bad song from this band.. wish I was around in 89
rmeeber seeing these guys on their last world tour in van when i was 13 with my pops holy fuck living legend al ill fucking be there till the end my niga
This was the first song and video a saw over a friends house and this is all it took an I was hooked on MINISTRY!!
I love the fence!
These boys were so brash, bold, and talented that they serve so much more credit than what’s been given to them.
Thanks I was surprised that this was not on the CD of the live show as it was an awesome moment. I remember copying the audio from my VHS to cassette tape so I could have it.
Ministry!!!! Ya!! They Reign.
Head Head Head Head Head. I could listen to that intro for days.
jello biafra was also there....great ministry period!
Some of this was filmed in Atlanta and I am still pissed I missed this show. I was 17 and it was 18 an up. My buddies who are a few months older than me went and are in the front row. One of them is in the video. About 4:50 in the front row. I did get to see the band a couple of years later and they did most of the good stuff off of Mind and LORAH. That show was damn good too, but missing this one still irks me.
Breathe!!!!!!! Bringing back the memories.....
Overwhelming..Brilliant song; radical Vid. Love it.
Saw this show at the Hollywood Palladium. Insanity. Jello Biafra joined them.
6:00 epic move pt 1
6:20 epic move pt 2…never seen anyone dispose their Ray Banˋs in such style
William Ward!!! Jazzman, playing with Ministry at the age of 55 in the beginning! I believe he has been dry for 2 years! I don't believe he is done, A rudimentary genius!
This version of the song is so good soley for the extended intro. Wish is was like that on the album, so cool seeing the double drumming 😭
this is so bad ass
I miss those days.
Badass. I saw this live at the Warfield in SF. I think it was the loudest and wildest show I've ever been to. These guys were just so cool and I loved this shit so much. It all went downhill from here for me with Ministry.
Damn! The drums set
If only i could hop in a time machine and choose where to go!🥺
cant wait to see them in a month. epic just like back in the day
I had this on VHS a real long time ago.
I've been around so long watching uncle Al, by far the best, of Breathe you f****** !!!!!. I was so excited to see them live , in the bay area again. April 16th .
don't forget Kmfdm was the opening band on this tour.
I was 13 in Colombia. Had no fucking clue this was happening somewhere else until i heard ministry in 1994
fucking brilliant
Increíble sonido en directo, las baterías son una pasada y todos los músicos en general hicieron este concierto inolvidable.
The best. I went to this tour in Grand Rapids Mi, KMFDM opened for them.
Goddamn that is badass...
2 drum kits . . . = yes I want to be there and was there in perth at the big day out , it was . . . awesome!
yeah the two best showes i ever seem this one and skinny puppys last rights....toss up on witch one wins
This is just fucking awesome!
Can't wait to see uncle al in november performing in the national stadium on the Emerald Isle.
Ahhh does our city miss Mississippi Nights. Saw some great shows there.
My go to road trip from Memphis. One of the best live venues ever. My heart crushed when it closed 😢 The memories are cherished🤘😷🤘
My first ever CD 💿 was this group back in the day still got that CD and still jamming to them to this day hell yeah 😎
I got to see them many times. Lallapalooza 2 , sepatura opened for them on one show in LA,
Brutal!!! como siempre el buen Al!!
Very cool, brings back many memories! Let's slam!!!!
Saw at lolapalooza best ever
This is amazing
One of my all-time favorite fan great fan I am
Breathe!
So glad I was around then.
New Year's Eve 1989 at the Cabret Metro, Chicago. Best show ever!
Wasn't it at the Riviera? I was there but can't remember for sure.
@@TRACYCOPE1 You're right Tracy, it was the Riviera. It's been a while! I went dug up my ticket stub. Yes, I've saved ALL of my concert and movie tickets since Highschool 1987!
Atlanta, stage Right! Was crazy!
Saw this show, had a great time.
I wonder where this was filmed. Saw this tour in Montreal in the small venue. I was amazed how loud these 2 drums, 2 guitars and one bass sounded. 30 years + and I still remember very clearly.
Had this live video on VHS, sold it as I also had the CD (still have it left!) And another "homebrew" of this VHS videotape transfered to CD-R disc. If you didn't feel like showing up" was the title as far as I can remember...
In case you didn't feel like showing up" was correct title
just awesome????????????????????
this is my alltime fav r.i.p. MIKE
best version
I saw this tour. These people had no idea what they were in for.
ONe of the best concerts I ever saw was ministry new years eve at the aragon ballroom. With KMFDM as well ..
