Thank you so much. I watched this for 18 minutes for the part where you said “the black wire goes to the positive coil”. I smoked my distributor the other day after having tore my VW down three years ago and redoing the janky wiring from the last guy so the colors I had didn’t match. I’ve never seen black used for positive and my USA training never thought black was positive. There went my pertronix flamethrower distributor.
    Thanks for the videos!

Sorry to hear about your distributor. In Germany many electronic applications use black as positive and negative. That’s why is important to get familiar with your car wiring diagrams.

Thank you for your detailed explanation . I was having problems locating the wires that go to the rear license plate light. previous owner clipped them. Great video.

I do like your series of wiring 101-I also notice that the complete harness for my 1971 Super that I have from West Coast Metrics doesn't quite exactly follow the same wiring colors that are listed/shown on the Bentleys Manual. No big deal, but it can be a bit confusing unless you follow the WCM manual and color scheme carefully!

I know, specially when you cannot find a good clear reference. It took me a while to get motivated. First had to fix some of the split wires, then test them for continuity. I opted to purchase the Volkswagen service manual from the Bentley publishers; I think it was a good investment to add to my library. I am working on video two as I we chat. Slade thank you for you constant support.

On the diagram, I see labels 1.5, 0.5, etc. is that the cable sizing mm2?

Hi buddy my name is Pedro from St. Petersburg Florida
I’m sorry to bother you I got a question about my 1972 super beetle Every time I pull my car in reverse is shot off the engine im breaking my head please need help 🙏🏼

@@prpropertysolutionsllc8502 that’s odd, let me check the wiring diagram and I will get back to you. But of my head the only thing I could think of it’s that you have a short wire in the transmission sensor. One of the wiring that turned on the reverse rear light when you engine reversed runs to the coil, perhaps it’s shorted and sending the signal to ground and that maybe 🤔 is why your bug power down. Meanwhile get under the car and trace the two wires from the transmission sensor and see they are not splice. And I will check my 72 wiring diagram to brainstorm why something like that could be happening. Ok

@@prpropertysolutionsllc8502 Pedro, I check the wiring diagram for a 1972 super beetle and the two most common reasons why the bug could be powering off in reverse are: that your black wire from the transmission sensor could be connected to the negative prom in your coil, if that is the case then Connect it to the positive terminal in your coil (T-15). Also make sure the second wire coming of the same sensor which splice in two are connect to your rear reverse lights (x-1and x-2) if this is still confusing let me know and I will make. Video for you.

Hi thank you so much for this video. I take it that this will be very similar to a 1971 Karmann Ghia?

Super Beetle the same as the Beetle, right? If not, ive taken 11 pages of notes for nothing...

No they are not the same . They are very similar. The biggest difference between a beetle a a super beetle is the front suspension. A standard beetle has a front axle beam suspension , where a super beetle has the McPherson suspension. A super beetle is about 12- 13 inch longer than a standard beetle. Also a super beetle is a little wider than the standard beetles.
