  • In this Q&A segment Fred Palmer asks:
    "Can you please discuss the different options you use for the eyes on your streamers? In particular, what is the best way to attach the eyes to the streamer, taking into consideration the various materials used to build them? Finally, do you have a go to eye or type of eye that you prefer to use for your streamers?"

    Awsome videos Kelly. Watched them all. Coming to big sky in July, and i will come see you. No more no more Dan Bailey, Bud Lilly lol. I grew up in beaver pond and powder horn. Can't wait to see your shop!

    Kelly, I totally agree with you - eyes are more than decoration - they are an important trigger. If you have ever hunted you know how often you notice the eye of the rabbit before you actually "see" the rest of it. QUESTION: I noticed the Tear Mender on your table but you never mentioned it - have any comments about it?? Brammer is using it to attach this eyes all the time now. Thanks for the videos!! Hank

    Good video gents. I’ve a brief question if you don’t mind. Using the types of streamers you do what set up would you typically use? 6/7Wt Rod, similar reel with a slow sinking intermediate line? Just curious as I’m surmising those types of flies would outweigh what I would typically use

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  6 років тому

      We are generally running a 7wt rod with a 250grn full sinking line. Our leader set up is about 18" of 20lb ultra green Maxima to about 18" of 12lb ultra green Maxima.

    I come from West Virginia where our trout fishing system is very poor and Fly fishing can be very difficult and frustrating in my area where The streams are stocked once a month. When I can’t fish our Wild trout streams what do you suggest for stubborn stocked Trout.

    Hi Kelly, I'm a somewhat new fly fisherman I started fly fishing last springs and I have a hard time detecting strikes without an indicator. Could you go through some tips and techniques for detecting strikes on wet flys? Is using an indicator necessary when using wet flys? love your videos and they have helped me a great deal with understanding the sport.

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  6 років тому +1

      Good question Eddie. Dont worry about the indicator in the beginning its a tool. Start leading it(pulling it down stream) not so much that you pull the flies just enough so you start to feel as well as see the hit. On the wet flies (if you mean classic wets) you generally are swinging the flies thru the run down and across, so you feel absolutely everything because you are static to the bug, the bigger problem with wet fly swings is not feeling it but you feel to much and tend to strike to quickly. Slip striking helps, you hold a foot or so loop between your finger and the reel and let it go when you feel the strike. Takes a little getting used to but it will help. I will do a video on it when the water gets down a touch, we are getting pretty big flows now. Thanks for watching , KG

    Love the videos wish you could do a video on how to tie that fly smaller or just that fly and recommend the smaller hooks to tie it smaller

    Do you use the tear mender to attach your eyes to your heads?

    • @TheSlideinn

      You can for sure. Our buddy Gunnar Brammer has a little video on that as well... I can't remember the title of that video though unfortunately.

    Great video. I didn't know clear cure goo went out of business. Sad really, I have their light so I guess I will have to find an uv epoxy that cures with that light. Deer creek doesn't cure with it. I have a small deer creek light too. ( don't need flies, love to have a hat. Do you sell them?) Too late for a question. All the best, Sean

    I think plastic dumbbell eyes would be a more durable solution. A google search gets very few hits though..........

    • @TheSlideinn
      @TheSlideinn  6 років тому

      Pal- Clear Cure had plastic dumbbell eyes that looked really good on the finished product, but they pretty much exploded after you hit the head against the rock...I'm guessing that's why a lot of companies didn't follow up on that Idea.
