I bet that Mad River Outfitters is the only fly fishing UA-cam channel that has surpassed 150K subscribers! Thanks so much for your fabulous work! Keep on keeping on!
Johnny is such a stud! I had the opportunity to fish with him this year, and we basically quoted spaceballs the entire day 😂. Learned a ton that has helped me on my local waters.
Picked up a new sink tip streamer line for my 6wt today along with a few other supplies. I'm super lucky to live so close to the best fly shop on the planet!
Im a novice and got my behind handed to me recently. I know I'm doing lots of stuff wrong. This is encouraging because it's gives me some focus. Thanks!
I fish the lower Sacramento River. Which most folks will tell you isn't a great streamer fishery. It's almost all nymphing. I am on a quest to see if I can prove that paradigm slightly wrong. The "any given day you gotta figure it out," is golden advice for all types of angling. As a non expert angler, I appreciate you appreating me being here. Because I learn a lot!
I am from Redding and I have floated the lower Sac a few times . How did you do on the streamers ? I have since moved to Wyoming and fish the Green Hope to land a few trophies
@@captainkoo I fish the lower sac often. I've done a decent amount of experimenting with streamers but it's very ineffective. I've got a few swinging a black slumpbuster in riffles but stripping from the boat only gave me one fish. I stick to indicators because of how stupid the fish go for nymphs.
I had no idea he was an angler, so imagine my surprise upon viewing Christian Bale guide Brian from Mad River on a drift! This channel has the best celebrity guests.
Kelly has really expanded my fishing with his amazing streamers and I have landed several 25-30 inch browns on his flies. Not only that, but the guys at the Slideinn make it a real pleasure doing buisness with them. They even flex some Icelandic to make me feel welcome.
Have you ever noticed how many really, really good fly fishermen are from Michigan? Kelly Galloup, Russ Madden, Paul Young, and Gunnar Brammer just to name a few. I think there must be a reason for that. Interesting interview. Keep the good stuff coming Brian.
Just got into fly fishing, but haven't tried streamers yet. Question, I have a starter rod that I don't really use anymore, it is a TFO rod that says 5/6 weight. Do I only need to change the sink line to a 6 weight and I am good to go?
Thanks for watching. Please send any and all questions directly to the folks at the shop and they will be happy to help. You can email them or call them.
Pardon my ignorance, if using a nail knot to attach leader to fly line how do you eventually remove that leader without cutting off some fly line. I have a hard time trimming back a 100$ Kelly Gallup line.
This is a grad level discussion. Question for Brian, does he build his own Maxima leaders for all types of fishing? If he does, does he use non maxima tippit on his maxima leaders? He seems very passionate about maxima and non maxima tippit would compromise the integrity of the leader.
Awesome video like always. I’m headed out to the Madison river tomorrow, are streamers still good to use at this time of the year or would you recommend something else?
John McClure is the best guide I’ve ever fished with. And a heck of a good guy.
Ditto and ditto. We agree.
@@mitchdavis7412 whatever that means……it’s a lot!

Drift boat, Madison river, expert knowledge, beautiful weather and hooking big Browns. Doesn't get any better than that.
Really doesn't! Thanks for watching.
So true!

I fly fish and tie Flys because of you guys. What a joy 😊

Uh......that's Bill Murray......not Christian Bale.
Really enjoyed the clip. JM seems so humble. Hello from a streamer junky in NZ
Thanks for watching. Great guy and one of our favorite guides of all-time.

One of the best shops and fly fishing operations there is. We are honored to call them friends and partners.
Which streamer from Kelly is your fav?
@@Anthony-eg7pw That would be the Peanut Envy, both in black and yellow.
@@1.ventill287 cool appreciate it! Do you sinking line? Or sink tip
@@Anthony-eg7pw intermediate has been working fine for me since I’m not fishing that deep
Johnny is actually a real person. Crazy I always thought he was just Kelly blaming his bad habits on an imaginary person
He is real….we think.

I want one of those tea shirts
Check with the shop? They should be able to help out.
I don’t use guides often but when I do I use John McClure.
But of course.

Do you cut the welded loop off your fly lines then, or you tie to em
Please contact the shop directly with your questions and they will be happy to help. Thanks.
What weight rod were you using? I have an 8 weight sage but would a 6wt be better for brown and rainbow streamers for rivers and alpine lakes
Pretty sure they both favor the 7wt, as does Kelly. Feel free to call Brian at the shop though to confirm.
He says 7 at 9:22
What reel does Brian have on that 7 wt rod???
You’d have to check with him directly on that. E-mail him or call him at the shop. Thanks.

Just recently bought a Sage Sonic 697 6 wt; what sinking line would you recommend for fishing streamers on this rod?
Please contact the shop directly and they will be happy to help! Thanks.
Pardon my ignorance, if using a nail knot to attach leader to fly line how do you eventually remove that leader without cutting off some fly line. I have a hard time trimming back a 100$ Kelly Gallup line.
With this system, they do not ever remove the leader. That butt section is permanent....most likely for the life of the line.
Micro swivels from leader to tippet

Would you guys recommend the echo streamer x over the Helios 3D in a 6 wt for streamer trout fishing?

I'm still waiting for the leader in the butt shirt.
