    My father had 119 staghorn ferns in his yard. He did exactly what this man is doing by wiring them on the moss and the wood. He started with a few, then as they grew, he cut off the "pups" as he called them and started more. He hung a pipe between trees, then attached a large piece of chain link fencing hanging down. He then hung the ferns on either side of the fence. He had several staghorn fences around the property under the trees.

    You’ve made this really easy to follow. I’ve read and watched a number of methods. Some of the methods require screws and antique burlap..... yours is by far the easiest to follow and it took you minutes while giving a detailed explanation.

    Great tutorial. I was given a Platycerum with 12 fronds in a hanging basket of sorts, and wanted to give it a more natural existence. I watched your “How to Divide and Mount…” tutorial and separated it into its 12 separate components. Each was then attached with twine around the circumference of our oak tree here in FL. I hope to see natural attachment in 6-12 months!
    Thank you for your succinct “how to” videos!

    My father has two and they are an interesting plant. Very informative video. On a side note i want to say you guys sell great plants and trees. I bought a purple guava tree from Logees over a year ago and it's growing beautifully. I have eaten three fruits from the tree and were delicious. Thanks.

    I asked for and received a mounted staghorn for Christmas that is hanging in the bathroom next to a huge window. Once it warms up this spring it will hang on the front porch. I have a different kind that I will probably mount also.

    Awesome vid!
    I have a question.,
    i have mine in a hanging basket filled with coco fiber and sphagnum
    it grew from a smal one in to several plants and it is about 2 meter wide.
    I want to mount it on a tree stump
    or would it be better to start with a little one and leave my older one in it s basket?
    would it survive the change?

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  7 років тому +4

      They can be transplanted or divided and do fine. I’d probably wait until spring so they have the whole season to recover and that depends on how hard they are divided.

    Great video--thank you! I have a staghorn in a square hanging basket with many sterile fronds. I'd like to hang it in the section of my hickory at the split, which is probably 8 feet from the base of the tree. Would it hurt my tree if I attached directly to it...meaning just set the basket in the split and tie it on? What's the best way to do it?

    Thanks for such an informative video! I have a bifurcatum of similar size, which also looks like it's made up of multiple plants. Would it be risky to divide such a young plant? It'd be great to have a few small plants to mount, but I wouldnt want to risk killing it. Any advice would be much appreciated!

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  7 років тому +2

      As long as there is a sterile frond (the shield) and a fertile frond (the staghorn’ s leaf) it can be done. Better to do it in spring or summer when they are actively growing.

    • @belindahkl
      @belindahkl 7 років тому +2

      Thanks for the advice! I managed to split it into 2 plants, both with sterile and fertile fronds. However, two more sets of fertile fronds separated from the root ball as well and I'm waiting to see if they'll continue growing on their own and produce a sterile frond. Fingers crossed!

    Hello! Thanks for the great video and advice. I just got a potted staghorn that already has a fairly substantial sterile frond covering the soil, and I'd like to mount it on a board. Is it okay to cover it with the moss as demonstrated in the video? Or should I leave it out in the open and try to support the rest of the plant with the moss?

    • @LogeesPlants
