    That skinny white guy is I think the most honest. The fact he straight up talked about how he has been racist himself based on what he hears and how he tries to fight it but can't help it takes a lot of balls.

      Robert The 3rd By that reasoning, murder suspects should be freed based solely on being so very, VERY sorry for having killed an innocent victim. Big fucking deal...he gets it that he's a racist. It takes NO balls to acknowledge being racist...the implicit message is, quite obviously to people like you, that it somehow indemnifies the person from being held accountable for ACTIONS perpetrated because of being a racist. Fuck I care whether or not someone is "woke" to being a bigoted bastard or not, if both that person and the person in denial about it perpetuate the same climate of prejudice? When he's ready to actually connect being "enlightened" to changing behavior - THEN we can talk about having "a lot of balls."

      @@ThomasFromTN Well acknowledging your fault is generally the first step into stopping it. Also, what he said isn't really racist I think. He said stereotypes exist and it affects everyone and it's true. He said he would assume people ethnicity from their language. Well I guess everyone here would assume it too. If I heard someone speaks indian, I'll think they're indians, not as just being a citizen of india, but being an indian as the ethnicity/race matching it. There is a difference between seing differences in people, racism is about the discrimination or estalishment of a hierarchy based on the existence of those.
      One more exemple : From my name, would you be able to guess my origins ? If you do and you're right because you assumed my name is typical from any country, would it be a stereotype ? Yes, but it's not racist anyway.

      Alexis Smith I have no problems with white women, but I can kind of understand why some black women hate y’all. It’s stupid to generalize a whole race based on what some has done though. Black men also put white women on a pedestal so some black women get jealous of that too. Don’t pay them any kind. Just know that it comes from a place of hurt and fear. For the ones I’ve talked to anyways. Some people are just fucking hateful though. A lot of black girls bullied me in hs for “ acting white” so I can only imagine how those same girls would treat an actual white girl.

      I think it may be even tougher for white blind people not to be biased or racist. Because if they grow in a racist home, they might not even be able to question it, because they may not be able to see a diferent race person as an equal since the first impression. And I don't think blind people are able to differentiate when some situation is racist or normal, so they might not be able to help.

      Discrimination shouldn't exist, however stereotypes form based on different cultures. It comes in accents, activities, food, social groups, etc. Whole yes there are bad stereotypes, there are many good ones that just reflect different ways of life. Therefore, natural stereotypes exist and are fine, while degrading stereotypes are baseless and shouldn't exist because they invite discrimination.

      On my quest to achieve this I have learnt a lot about human nature. It seems to me that those who are not given traits such as beauty or being wealthy are some of the nicest, kindest and generous people.
      While the "gorgeous" and well off seem to be the most arrogant and greedy people out there. Of course that's not to say there aren't beautiful kind people out there.
      I saw your profile and it intrigued me. I wanted to learn more about who you are and what type of path you would like on in life.

    • @anapaulamota0
      @anapaulamota0 4 роки тому +11

      Unfortunately, the stereotype here is pretty straightforward: people assume that if you use language as described in grammar textbooks, you're white. And then you jump to assume that if someone uses slang or incorrect forms of the language, probably they didn't have access to a good education (and probably neither their family) so, they must not be white, because this happens to other ethnic groups more often than happens to white people. They are not saying that you are white: they are saying that you are educated, therefore the chances of you being black are smaller. When blind people recognize being racist, we understand that is not JUST about skin color, it's about expression of your background, and the access to the culture that the society views as positive based purely on prejudice established years before we were born.

    I’m a teacher of the blind and a about a year ago I had to try to explain to my 2nd grade student what race and racism was. He had been learning about MLK and the civil rights movement in class and was confused. Myself and my para who is black sat down with my Chinese student to explain what race is. It was a very real and complex conversation to have. At the end we basically had to explain that some people fear what is different from themselves and that turns to hate and violence. We haven’t gotten into systemic racism with him yet, but I believe with everything going on in the world, this conversation will be ongoing. He also is in a multi-racial family with several adopted siblings, so apart from being blind, his point of view is unique. A huge part of creating change starts with educating and opening the world view and mindset of the next generation.

      Only one girl said that everyone is racist lol the other one said that he'd like to think he isn't but there are of course stereotypes for everyone. But that doesn't make him racist. And that doesn't mean that he thinks he's racist. Everyone has a stereotype for a specific race whether it's good or bad. That is not what racism is. Racism would be using those stereotypes as an argument for why that race is inferior to yours or vice versa. Just saying, "I can tell by the way they talk what race they are" isn't racist. That's just based on experience. If you took someone who has never heard voices before (somehow) and played them voice recordings of 1000 black people, 1000 white people, 1000 asian people, 1000 hispanic people, etc... and then played them all mixed up, they would be able to distinguish them. Not because they're racist, but because humans are perceptive. I can't tell race through youtube or twitter comments unless someone says the N word, because what they say usually doesn't have anything to do with it. But vocal tone can distinguish a lot. Whether it's cultural or biological, we tend to have different sounding voices. I'm sure there are studies done with white people who grew up in black homes, black people who grew up in white homes, and everything in between on if their vocal tone and demeanor is different and why that is. Maybe it's cultural, i don't know. But racism is actively thinking that your race, or another race, is superior to another race. Guessing someone's race by their voice isn't racist, and saying that a specific race has a stereotype isn't racist. It's only racist if the stereotype is meant to make that race seem inferior. Saying black people are naturally taller is not racist. (That's not a real stereotype, that's just an example.) But It doesn't lower the race to say they're taller. So stereotypes aren't racist. Racist stereotypes are racist. I would say I am not racist. I do not believe I am superior or inferior because of my skin color.

    • @silverstring9928
      @silverstring9928 6 років тому +9

      You kind of went a weird way with what I said but I'll address my actual point first-"he'd like to think he isn't but..." means that he thinks he is. I don't really know how to argue this more than 'that's how the english language works' and 'common sense'.
      And then you went on a rant that didn't really have to do with my comment but I'll reply anyway (because I like to argue i guess)-
      Dude, everybody is a little bit racist. Everybody has an implicit bias, whether you like it or not. Being actively racist is different, but just because one isn't, that doesn't keep one from /being/ racist. As long as you don't act on it, and actively fight against your internalized racism, it's okay. But you should know that you are, because everybody is-like she said.
      Because racism isn't just "actively thinking that your race, or another race, is superior to another race" -that would imply that "separate but equal" is okay. It's thinking that one is different and can be categorized differently based on specific things about them-like their voice. So with "1000 black people, 1000 white people, 1000 asian people, 1000 hispanic people, etc... and then played them all mixed up, they would be able to distinguish them."-No...they would not. Because that's not how voices work. You're talking about nature vs nurture at this point, and if someone were able to tell them apart, it would be because they were raised in a different place, it is not something inherent to their race.
      You kind of made that point yourself when you said that they might have done studies or whatever, so you kind of refuted your own point and I'm not really sure so I'm still not quite positive about your opinion, but regardless, that just... isn't how race works-as the older black guy said, he didn't even know one of his friends was black and vice versa until they mentioned it.
      So yeah, " Guessing someone's race by their voice" /is/ racist, and "saying that a specific race has a stereotype" is also racist.
      This is what I mean though, you need to acknowledge it, and attempt to get over those stereotypes.
      Ignoring isn't the same as fixing.

    • @PtylerBeats
      @PtylerBeats 6 років тому +17

      I never claimed to fix racism lol you can't we all know that. But not everyone is racist. Many people would argue that you CAN'T be racist if you're oppressed. Which, frankly, I think is ridiculous, but if you believe that, it destroys the idea that everyone is racist. It's not racist to notice something different about someone. It's racist to hate them because of that. You can internalize racism, but that doesn't make it ok. If I walk around hating a race because they aren't white, but I don't say it out loud, doesn't mean it's ok because I don't act on it. If I heard someone's voice and said, "That person sounds like they have blonde hair and is 230 pounds." That's not being prejudice against people with blonde hair that weigh about 230 pounds. Guessing someones appearance is not racist or even mean. Now saying, "They sound black because they sound unintelligent" is racist af. But just to say that they sound black because that's how you imagine them is not at all racist. I used to play xbox in middle school online all the time. I met people all the time, and because we never met in person, I often found myself imagining what everyone looked like. Sometimes I didn't guess properly, sometimes I was spot on, and sometimes I never found out. But it does not make me a racist to imagine their skin color. It does not make a sexist to imagine someone's gender. Racial stereotyping is different than just imagining someone's race by their voice. If you say they sound asian because they have an asian accent, you're not being racist. Especially because asian isn't a skin color. You can be born in asia and be white or black. It's not mean to say that someone sounds uneducated, but it is racist to assume that they are black because they sound uneducated. Are you following me? Observing is not racist. Making blanketed assumptions about race that have no support is racist. I would not be offended if a blind person guessed my race by my voice. I WOULD be offended if it changed how they treated me. I am not racist lol you cannot tell me that EVERYONE is racist, because that's not true. Racism is a choice. Kids, before they are old enough to understand race, have no care in the world whether someone is the same race as them or not. I know a white family that has an adopted child of another race with a clearly different skin tone. He is like 8 years old and he still doesn't know he's adopted. My point is, racism is a learned behavior. It's a nurture, not nature. And if that's the case, then it's possible for people to not be racist. My interpretation of racism is simple. Hating another person solely because of their race, or hating an entire race of people because of their race. I don't fall under either one of those categories, and I'm assuming you don't either. So I would not consider either one of us racists. It's possible to have racist tendencies without being aware of them, I agree. I also know that subconscious racial stereotyping does not make you an active racist. But what you're saying is that it's impossible to not have these racial stereotypes, and that's wrong. You don't know me. You don't know anyone in this video lol Don't pretend to know that ALL humans are racist. You have no idea.

      It's clear that you already have an idea of me based on your biased question. But you know that if I tell you i'm white, you disregard everything i'm saying because i'm a white, privileged racist. If I tell you i'm black, i'm just ignorant, and I've been brainwashed by a racist society. If i'm any other minority, it doesn't matter. My race is irrelevant, and you know it only matters to you so that you can find an excuse to say I'm racist or ill-informed. You either agree with me or you don't, it's cool. Just don't make it about race. Make it about my beliefs if you're going to disagree. The division between all these races is ridiculous. People complain about racism but then base whether someone knows what they're talking about on whether they're white or not.

      The term "proper English" in America is hilarious to me. None of us are truly speaking proper English. And it is spoken all over the globe in many different ways depending on the country. There's also a lot of things we do here that aren't "proper" by England's standards but I won't go there.
      Let's roll with America's definition of "proper English." I think it's prejudice and shows people's perception of black people to think if someone speaks "proper English" they most certainly can't be black. Especially when it's from the mouths of other black people.

    Unfortunately, a lot of people don't know the actual definition of racism, so the blonde woman's perspective isn't being received well in these comments. Accountability also just tends to make others become defensive about their own participation - passive or otherwise.
    Even on the subject of housing, she understands that complaining without a solution or action is complicity.. which we're all guilty of in some area of life.
    Try taking in information without feeling personally attacked. You think the comment about assuming people are Black by hearing aggressive slang, vulgarity, and inarticulate speech didn't sting? Instead of being pissed about a stereotype, I heard the young man go on to acknowledge that way of thinking & conditioning is a problem. That's the open door to a productive exchange. ✌🏿

      realistic trash you said he is not a critical thinker, but you seem to forget these people are blind. They *rely* on their hearing to differentiate people. They are trained to *hear*. Which influence the way they think because hearing is what help them differentiate one person from another. Its not just social stereotype but also their natural instinct as a blind person, who can't see. They can't just ignore voices because that's the ONLY thing they can use to recognise.

    • @realistictrash6121
      @realistictrash6121 6 років тому +8

      i understand what you're saying, really i do. but at the same time, just because you are "trained" to associate certain things, doesn't mean it's okay. growing up, we learn about fucked up shit and negativity but that doesn't mean we have to subscribe to it. our natural instincts are to reproduce as much as we can but we don't do it, because we are advanced beings. that being said, he should be able to break those messed up connections and see the truth for what it is. but he chooses to not do that, so that to me is racist
      i'm not saying ignore people (which reminds me of people that say they don't "see color"- i digress) but you can't just generalize. idc that he said black people are loud but when you say aggressive, its such a negative connotation and frankly untrue. it's exactly what the media portrays us to be and i'm sick of it. should we lower our voices just to make someone feel not threatened? every time i go to a bar, the loudest motherfuckers in there are white frat boys. if anything, they are more aggressive with their mob mentality. maybe i wasn't staying on track here but its just really frustrating for me since i personally am not aggressive, and neither are the other black people i know and neither are the other black people i communicate with daily that are strangers.

    • @kyolin3875
      @kyolin3875 6 років тому +2

      realistic trash - You can't just simply tell them to drop it up. *It's how blind people distinguish one person from another*. It's like telling us, people who can see, to close our eyes and distinguish people based on voice. Yes, you might be able to distinguish voices from people that you know, or acquaint often, but what if its a set of casual friends that you don't associate often? Will you then be able to distinguish them? For me to claim a blind person's capability of hearing is a natural instinct, is a stretch. It isn't. People start with a set of abilities, like seeing, hearing, smelling, sensing and taste, and they are, almost to equal levels, similar among all people. What comes into the equation is what if some people do not possess such ability since birth? Of course, their other abilities would be at the same level at start, but as time progresses, and once the lack of an ability, in this case vision, start to become an obstacle for their lives, they must find an alternative. And such alternative is raising the level of another ability to accommodate such disability. They must somehow train themselves to overcome it. Hence, their hearing is beyond believable. They start to be able to hear voices, differentiate sounds, and able to listen for tones. This is their replacement for the lost of vision, which could've help them distinguishing people of different colours through recognition of colours and associating colours into groups. It may be offensive of the statement to you, but it is also insensitive and unfair for you to criticise their use of hearing to differentiate you from others and have no problem with normal people categorising you based on the colour of your skin.
      You have to understand the difference between stereotype and one person as an individual. Yes, you, as a black person, is not loud nor is you aggressive; however, does it hold true for *all* black people? Are all white people racist? You might not be what he defined the voices as, does not means his statement is not true. The group of people that he addressed *were* loud and aggressive, or they even possess an accent; therefore, he has all rights to associate them within black "voice" stereotypes - similar to how we associate skin colours to race. People should understand that stereotypes exist because they *are, or were* true. Just because they, people that do not assert these stereotypes, feel that these stereotypes are not appropriate or true, to themselves, does not means these stereotypes are not legitimate to the extent of others.

      There's also xenophobia which can overlap with but differ from racism.
      As an example, I remember hearing reactionary Americans yell hateful anti-Mexican comments at a rally. One guy in particular was leading the chant with others backing him; he was black. Many of these crowds may have little to no problem with race even though these crowds may (at least superficially) resemble racist scenes from decades past, because if you're seen as "all American", you're part of the club, you're not a foreigner. Many of these individuals grew up listening to black music, watching black athletes, and admiring black culture. Historically, Irish, Italians and Jews were once seen as foreign too, but then they became increasingly accepted as being part of the in crowd, which at that time meant being considered white. Racism and derision didn't go away but nowadays, xenophobia toward Mexicans and Muslims seem to garner a more enthusiastic rally cry in the American ethos that was once more concentrated toward black people, Jews, etc. I believe a lot of these tensions boil down to suspicions and fears of the unknown.

    Ok, the guy in the green shirt has got to be one of the most honest and optimistic people I've ever seen or heard. He's great!
    and, just because this comment section got into debates about racism anyway, let me just throw my opinion out there. I hate that we use the term race for segmenting people at all. If someone asks me my race, I want to say human, even though I know the "correct" answer in my case would be Caucasian. Scientifically we see ourselves as a single species, Homo Sapiens, and yet we see people as being different races. it makes no sense, and I feel that the fact that we have classifications like these for ourselves makes it all the easier for racism to develop. Just look through history, whenever we separate ourselves into classes or categories, even the most superficial ones, it creates the perfect breeding grounds for prejudice and hate, despite the best (or often, because of the worst) intentions in the beginning. I'll not pretend to be perfect at seeing everyone equally all the time, but we have to try. So please don't hate me for being a straight white man who believes in God and is crazy enough to share his opinion with the youtube comment section.

      Gott MitUns accomplished more than any other race in the world? You know, chinese technologies were the envy of the world for millenia. Egyptians built structures so tall that no one would build anything bigger until the industrial revolution. While Europe was in the middle of the dark ages, blaming the plague on "impure air" the Islamic caliphate was enjoying being the scientific and intillectual capitol of the world.
      All that being said, at the end of the day, yeah, I'm racist. I think humans are the best:)
      Joking aside, it is wrong to be racist, because there is no basis for it. Crime rates have a lot to do with your environment, and no one is going to do well on an IQ test if they didnt recieve a good education. Racism isnt natural, it's taught. It's something you learn. There is no difference in our dna that would justify treating each other as different races.

      Gideon Jones I acknowledge those things, but 95 percent of everything that we use today, things that actually make life easier and push us further and further into the future were invented by white Europeans, that's an indisputable fact.
      You're wrong there is genetic differences between us, albeit small, but definitely there. Also, black children who are raised in white homes still perform poorly compared to their white counterparts. Racism is an inborn trait, children have been proven to be racist from birth. Ingroup preference is a healthy thing and it was considered so for thousands of years just up until literally like 60-100 years ago depending on what part of America you lived in (MANY countries around the world are still very racist).
      You've only been convinced that racism is wrong, no one TRULY thought like people do now anywhere throughout history.

    • @fueljunkie3390
      @fueljunkie3390 6 років тому +1

      Gideon Jones Those are things we could argue over all day. But the undeniable fact is that whites are being attacked more than ever now. Blacks and Mexicans are being taught by the media and the societies they live in to have extreme hate for us and being as though we are due to be the racial minority in the next 30-35 years, I think you can see how that's going to end for us.
      Your children and especially your grandchildren are going to go through a unimaginable hell, unless we start to speak and stand up for ourselves. This is the problem the Alt-Right sees and it's why your going to see more and more of us.

      Gott MitUns You should really hide yourself in a closet for thinking like that. That man said all that was needed to be said. And if it bothers you, go find a group chat with a bunch of people who think like you and spit your hate there. And please do it knowing that it wouldn't change the fact that there are dumb, ugly, small, tall, smart, odorous, mean, nice,... people in all colour because like he said there are no races... God created us like that and you have to accept it. And if you can't I'm sorry for you but you will have to deal with it...

    • @gideonjones5712
      @gideonjones5712 6 років тому +5

      Gott MitUns could you explain a few things to me please? First, i guess I'd like you to just explain the whole alt-right thing, because I'll be honest, I dont know that much about it. I'd also like to understand why you personally think this way. You say whites are being attacked more than ever right now. I disagree, but I have never felt i was "under attack" for being white, and if you have I would like to understand.

      Are we going pretend like a lot of black Americans don’t talk in African-American vernacular? That’s what the white guy was referring to... even black people can differentiate other black people usually from the way they talk.
      Obviously this doesn’t apply to EVERY black person, but a lot of them do have that accent, and a lot of black families swear a lot too. They’re raised in households that don’t care about censoring themselves, so it’s natural for them to swear.
