GTX 1070 + 980Ti: Two Different GPUs Working Together

- - Thanks to a fancy new feature of DirectX 12 called "Explicit Multi-Adapter," this is now possible (for only one game currently, but still!). Let's see what kind of performance scaling we should expect from such a combo.

The real question is can a motherboard and a fatherboard get a babyboard?
They can only have daughterboards.
Don't forget keyboard
hahahahah so funny
Get mature kid...
Fatherboard + motherboard = keyboard
But the real question is...can we use 3 motherboards?
Can it run Far Cry
Crysis
Blaine Sieck nah the real question is can we use 5 power supplies. But 3 motherboards sound nice too xd
Thats how you get yourself a stepfatherboard. Motherboards and fatherboards sometimes split, causing the ram cache and space to be split. While the graphics kids are sometimes between all of them keeping things stable.
this is the best comment section ive ever seen xD logic goes straight out of the door here
im watching this at 144p and waiting for the vid to buffer whilst eating mangos and watching the trident z rgb ram rave like its the late 90s
PIXEL POOTIS how are you watching the ram and the video at the same time tho?

What if we liked the video and hate everything about life??
You dont hate this video so you cant hate everything in life
Good point
Sadly, there will be no games supporting this
Oh yes there will. AotS already does. Did you even watch the video?
+Science Studio big companies like nvidia will try 2 eradicate this feature becoz it will harm their buisness at sone point ...i believe they will not favour this ....what r ur thoughts...
haha gettem!
Doubt it.
man you was like 9k subs 2 months ago, gratz homie!
ive been watching for awhile and im glad to see your channel is growing so quickly, keep up the content
You have taught me basically almost everything I know about pcs. I want to get into it, and now I know about it! You are awesome, and amazing job on all videos!
I'm glad I could help!
He I am currently facing is with my 1070 evga ftw 2 and msi v x2 3070 . The dont like each other. Let see you make them cooperate ;)
It would be really interesting to see how two very different cards perform. Like a GTX 680 and a GTX 1080
i did this with a GTX 660 and a GTX 1070 and it worked perfectly!
@@JustYourFavoriteCineClips what motherboard are you using?
@@JustYourFavoriteCineClips how did you install the 2 seperate drivers assuming you did, im trying with a 1050ti and a 760, not for gaming tho
@@mudzy9820 having issues with 790 TI to run in the same machine as my 3060. can't get both drivers to work at same time really. some things work, but not all. Not well enough to justify currently. I just wanted to have priority displays on 790 TI and only my primary display with 3060. No onboard graphics so that's not an option either.
@@JordanV yeah same thing with me i got them working but was too buggy to be worth it, if i were you id just save up for a card that has same drivers as 3060 so maybe a 1050ti lol or 1650
Now this is some quality material. Keep it up! I'm sure you'll hit it off if you keep up good content like this.

Your are good at what you do man,
Don't go all Hollywood on us

+Tony K lol..
So sarcastic..
"expect more games using multi gpu in dx12 in the coming months" literally like no games still that support it or even properly support dx12
exactly. but how many AAA games even came out on PC in 2017... I mean I spent the entire year playing switch games and if I did hop on PC I played indie games like Stardew Valley.... Witch I also own on the switch... Oh wait I played skyrim... On the switch...
Linksys120n making a good game on dx12 means u have to build the game up around dx12 to take advantage of that and no one wants to do that cuz developing exclusivly for dx12 limits potential buyers down to only people on w10. So people would much rather develop for dx11 then just port it over to dx12 which never really works well
so by that logic I feel the people who refuse to use w10 should be a tiny minority by Q1 2019 (if the world as we know it even exists then but I said the same thing about Q4 2017 a couple years ago...) So around then is when we will get some purely DX12 games.
Hopefully Vulkan saves us (hopefully)
Well a dx12 game needs to be structured around it from the start and any game to be released this year would have been in development since before this feature was released so I Guess we’ll have to wait. Sad thing still is that bigger channels like LTT aren’t talking about it to promote devs to use dx12 especially now that windows 10 has majority.
your topics are great ... keep going man .
Thank you for being on UA-cam. Love seeing engineers online
How about an updated version of this video? I occasionally stream and will be keeping my 980 Ti when I upgrade to a 2080 Super. Would this kind of setup work for, say, playing the game on the 2080 Super and render the stream (StreamLabs OBS) with the 980 Ti?
Would be really interesting to see how a setup like that would compare to a dedicated streaming pc.
the 980 TI will improve the fps
Yeah... I am actualy here cuz of that... you will still need a capture card...
@@AndrejPX u do not need a Cap card to stream to UA-cam or Twitch from PC
its kinda hard to tell in the thumbnail if its saying CPU or GPU
You deserve more views. You keep your videos interesting, short but pack full of information.
Loving your Channel(!) Keep it up boy!
Nvidia + amd gpus at the same pc must be a thing.
I have that, it works mostly though it gives you some drivers errors on bootup
+Quinten Maessen That'll be so cool lmao. Like a Intel cpu with a nvivdia + amd gpus hahaha
Yeah, but how about working together on a game like the gtx 980ti and the 1070 showcased here? That's what I'd like to see being a thing.
That's Sli and crossfire. I want to see 1 Nvidia card and 1 amd working together.
I know.
Never noticed the huge Marshall amp before, does he play an instrument?
Shaun the sheep if he doesnt he should give it away XD
I love your videos. even on topics already done you hit points not mentioned by others. please keep up the good work amd awesome videos

nice shirt man bb love the band
what if I connect a second monitor to the second GPU?
You have to connect all monitors to the main card.
David Wielander Why this so? I have the same problem. I have recently bought a 1080ti and would like to use my 1070 for my 2nd monitor but I can't boot that way. After booting with both monitors connected to the 1080ti I can plug my 2nd monitor to the 1070.
Any solution to that?
Ha Ka buy 2 more monitors

Idk
@@David-rq9dl no you don't
Super nice tech (multi-adapter) great video m8
This channel has become such an awesome one in a really short time! Awesome!
I appreciate the kind words!
Linus is an Nvidia agent. Linus used his powers to make the AMD spokesman drop the card. And that was the only RX 480 existing. Now we're getting slower RX 480's that are replicated from the one Linus sabotaged.
Do I need drivers for both cards if one is nvidia and one is amd?
Yes.
Science Studio hi i have a amd sapphire nitro r7 360 2gb and im going to buy a amd rx550 4gb can i use them both like in the vid
Thank you for explaining this!
This is a really educational video. Good job dude, keep it up :)
P.S. Can't wait for tomorrow to see those sweet, sweet benchmarks.
Love the joke at the end. Can't wait for the 480 video.

Thanks for the explanation. Haven't messed with DX12 but the knowledge is good tyty.

Awesome content as usual, and very nice shirt! =D
Is that a breaking Benjamin shirt?
So we can get an old high-tier card (like GTX 680) and put it next to a GTX 1070 and gain notable performance?
In one game in existence, Ashes of Singularity, yes. lmao
Johnathan Bloch And Rise of the Tomb Raider. And more games upcoming.
Sezer Çelik Rise of the Tomb Raider is only in a beta of DX12 Mutli-Adapter mode
Johnathan Bloch Umm, and?
Sezer Çelik And it probably won't work very well, dumbass. Basing your setup around this technology is probably the most useless thing you can do. Wait many more years, and it might be a good idea.
Thanks really informative.
I was trying to find this exact video but with modern cards. Great job on this one!
Build the ultimate Multi GPU system:
2x GTX 1080Ti in SLI,
R9 Fury X in Explicit Multi Adapter mode as a secondary GPU and finally a GTX 1070 Physx Card.
Actually does Explicit Multi Adapter work together with SLI?
Me: "CAT! MUST LIKE VIDEO"
Great video dude
You are zone of the few original pc youtubers very good job keep it up
Yep. 2 years have past and not even a single game supports it.
4:32 yeah he’s bSing 😐
Revy well Minecraft does LMAO it actually does
50% is about what you expect from SLI. A second card costs 100% of value for 50% of performance. Nvidia accepted this 2 years ago at the EXPO. Crossfire sits between 60-105%, hovering around 77%.
SLI sucks. Always did. Nvidias strategy relies on bullshit and hype for people to buy a NEW card. AMD thinks of it's customers.
Swimples!
*PS.. it's RAD-E-ON.
I think a lot of games have better than 50% scale under SLI, and right now Crossfire it's shit, almost all games have high frame latency or shuttering, and this it's not because bad hardware, it's because the AMD drivers are bad, like really bad, but, in the last months they are slowly improving, lets hope they come back on top of SLI as it was a few years ago.
And here we have two completely different opinions only similar in that they happily sport a complete lack of testing and a completely adopted fanboy tone.
Nicolas Marez "lack of testing" that may be true, but, that mainly because i don't have access to a huge amount of hardware, so i base my opinion in what i have tested plus the general results from a few internet review/test portals. "adopted fanboy tone" that actually because the experiences i have had, but other people may have different opinion.
Lol i think the technical term for all of that is "really bad" or maybe "like, really bad"
Nicolas Marez "really bad"
Great Videos, keep them up!! :D
You might want to change the font you use on your thumbnails, some of us thought it said CPU instead of GPU. Also great video, like always!
been using my old 660ti as a 2nd card for physx, it helps in all my games from battlefield4 to the witcher 3 ^.^
Really? That's pretty cool. I don't think I have ever seen someone have that set up. At least recently. What Avg. FPS do you usually get?
I ran a 560 as my physx card for a few months, with a 6970 OC as my main card. I only benchmarked borderlands 2 with physx, and saw about 30 fps increase from 60fps, with physx on high.
nice try but bf4 uses havoc not physx. all fps gains you might see must be inconsistencies in your test like driver updates and different game situations. a dedicated physx card can only help in games that actually use physx (should be massive gains in batman arkham series)
Hey bud, as a person who has hybrid crossfired southern island cards with keplar and maxwell cards - I can tell you that you do get some boosts from other games
even if physx isnt involved.
For example, one time I put a 7950 windforce and a GTX 660 Direct CUII in a phenon II x4 build, and after I ran the hybrid physx mod it just allocated the 2gb from the 660 to my 7950 windforce some how, so my GPUZ showed 5gb on a 384bit bus - Isnt that insane?
I didnt write the mod so I dont know what happened, but Ive seen it in one other example when it added 1440mb of vram to another 7950 windforce my friend had in an i7 system (my friends system, we were both borderlands 2/ presequal buffs).
So yea, when you step out of the box and take a look around at what you can do, sometimes things get weird XD
+megapro125 means you know jack shit about GPUs, I will enjoy my gains while you're ignorance grows.
so can i use a gtx 750 ti with a gtx 780?
Just get the game and try it XD

When the rx 480 joined in i got problems but it´s because they don´t belong together. driver download are scary when you ahve 3 different gpu´s.

Oskar Andreas Berg I heard its impossible to earn decent amount of money from bitcoin these days
RX 480 + GTX 1080 ? It work with DX12 ?
Yes.
+Science Studio nice video dude .... thx :)
Yes and no. Don't take the other person seriously. This is literally the only game that supports Dx12 "Sli" . So unless you plan on playing 100's of hours of one game until further support comes along.. don't do iiiit
He was asking about this game. The answer is not "yes and no." The answer is "yes." Don't over-complicate a simple question. You can take me seriously. I'm the owner of this channel.
I did not mean to over-complicate it and ended up doing so. I apologise for that, I just wanted to say since his question was in my own opinion vague, that it would work but for only this title.
I apologise if my reply was badly written and got you annoyed enough to make this reply, that was not the intention.
this channel is good i was here when it has only 3000 subs i am glad that grow so fast
Noticed the TSL 100 stack in the background, nice!
I'm a simple man: I see a tube amplifier, I don't care about the pc anymore.
that tube amplifier men
😍😍😍
can we use two gtx 1050ti ??
The real question is can we use father board with motherboard?
THE EAGLE It would result in a sonboard... the other one is abortion board
Yes but it would be useless.
Xavier Rodriguez How come? Do you get the same fps with one 1050?
wow you really make awesome videos! I have a feeling you'll grow big fast :D
Nice T-Shirt :) Such a Simple Design, must be so cold though, since its short and all.
So for AMD we can crossfire R9 390X and RX 480 ?
Youll be able to use the multi GPU feature, but I dont think it will be able to be crossfired with each other.
Heres my thinking: IF the 390x AND the RX 480 shared the same architecture (Hawaii), then yes you could crossfire the two (Dont tho, ones 256 bit bus the other is 512).
But if you are running windows 10, then I would recommend it because you dont have to have the same architecture to multi GPU (as I understand it), its dx12 which enables this.
I personally would use the 390x as your main card and ADD the 480, the 390x has more memory bandwidth then even the the GTX 1080 - it does require more power
but come on its 28nm as opposed to 16nm finfet.
To be fair, I dont think the 480 will match the 290x/390x performance, but I do think it will be close, and I think it may surpass with overclocking.
They said its equivelent to the 980, we shall see.
Should be able too, in dx12 they ran a 980ti (384bit maxwell) with a 1070 (256bit pascal).
No, you can't.
They don't have the same GPU. The RX 480 is based on Polaris 10, R9 390 on Hawaii.
You also won't be able to Crossfire a Fury(X) with a R9 390(X), as the Fury cards have a Fiji GPU
+Shiny Latias That's bullshit. Polaris is a architecture, not a GPU.
The RX 480 can be crossfired with a RX 470, for example, as they have the same GPU (Polaris 10). Still, you won't be able to Crossfire it with a RX 460, due to the different GPU of the 460 (Polaris 11)
+Jon Mercado they are both cgn.........
980ti can overclock past 1070ti stock levels but a 1070 cant ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I see what you did there in the end. Savage.
Damn this channel grew quick as hell. Congrats on that for sure. What is the benchmark program that was shown towards the end of the video?
if you would explains thing slower the video would be worth to sit down learn something

I really appreciate your commentary and thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thank you for being as unbiased as you possible can. I look forward to your RX480 review ;)
Glad you're on board with us!
Hi, I don't understand one thing ... Because if I use a combination of RTX 2070 S + GTX 970; the 970 goes wrong and windows disables it (no SLI). It would seem a Driver problem (the 970 says that the most up-to-date driver is the 390 while for the rtx 2070s it is the 430, therefore putting the 2070 the 430 driver does not see / recognize the 970 putting it offline). Have you used specific drivers to make 1080 and 980 go together (but each on its own)?
With the point you made @ 3:25, would this method be more viable with 2 cards rather than SLI or CF? I have seen a couple of videos on the subject of SLI (I have always been with Nvidia) and from what I've gathered is that with SLI the second card would give you around a ~40% boost, where as in this example you got a 50% boost with the second card. I would really like to hear some more in depth explanation around this. And yes, I know that games HAVE to support this feature for them sick gains to happen.
This is the first video I've watched of this channel and you talk faster then my brain can comprehend lol
Thank you, i wanted to see this explained. I hope more games start supporting DX12 and this. I doubt it though.
"Expect more DX12 games supporting explicit multi-adapter in the coming months". It's been 6 years. I didn't even know this feature existed until recently :P.
your cat is a clone of mine. wow. great work as always.
so i have a question, im currently running two displays on a gtx 1060 6gb, one on displayport and the other on hdmi, my main monitor is 144hz and my secondary is running at 60, however the experience on the second monitor is reduced, all videos playing on them lag and have audio issues and its even worse when running videos on both monitors at the same time, so i was wondering if i could put my 750ti back into my pc (yes i have enough slots) and plug my secondary monitor into the 750. would that help the lag? and would i still be able to use the 1060 primarily for games?
Question, if the software divides the frame into such tiles, wouldn't there be screen tearing or (in order to accommodate the tearing) delay?
Amazing tech, excited to see how this will improve sli and xfire, or maybe remove both of them all together as we move forward to new ways to use multiple GPU's.
You did a good job mate.
I have a quick question : Is the mutli gpu set up a lot more cpu demanding or does the load barely go up?
You have become one of my favorite UA-camrs in recent years and I also love that your favorite band is Breaking Benjamin thank you for the content and all that you do!
Now this really begs a good question for those (like me) who have two older nVidia cards: I have a GTX 970 and a GTX 750 Ti which the GTX 970 "replaced". However, I keep them both in my system (not SLI, cuz impossible). Is such a setup actually going to be beneficial under DX12 and supported games? I mean, obviously there is some gain as shown in your video. But your cards are very similar in spec. But how about something like this? If you have any way to test that, I'd really like to know about it. Thanks, man, for this interesting video.
Also: how *do* you actually test the framerate under DX12? I though most tools like MSI Afterburner and FRAPS don't work yet under DX12?
now my question is could you potentially use two of the same cards not in sli and in theory benefit from this performance increase or would it be redundant and would you be better off in sli config?
wow ty, This is my question very long time
