  • Does degreeing the cams and adding stronger valve springs increase power? This is an interesting video to me because I like to see numbers and what changes can make to those numbers. Bit of a back story on this engine. I built it a few years ago on a budget and tight timeline. I didn’t degree the cams and used factory valve springs. It made 265 whp in that configuration. I eventually ended up getting valve float so I took it apart earlier this year and replaced the valve springs with stronger ones from Comp. Since I had it apart I also degreed the cams and the driver side was off by one degree and the passenger side was off by 4.
    It’s a Teksid block with -11cc Manley pistons, PI heads, Comp 262 cams, BBK intake plenum, BBK shorties, OR X-Pipe, and Magnaflow turndowns.

    Decent numbers considering the mild modifications. Good job!

    Those are some nice numbers!!! Now port the heads and intake, and go on e85

    Timing your cams on a 2v is extremely important! Literally you're timing two power curves together, meaning each bank of cylinders will make power at different rpms. So, timing a cam will change when the intake valve opening and closing events occur, thus changing compression of each side of the engine. Matching each side will line up the power curve into one, which is much easier to tune and makes for a better running engine. Rember if you do want to time your stock PI cams, advancing the cams will change the curve to peak at a lower rpm and retarding the cam will change the curve to a higher rpm. Adding a power adder like no2 you want to retard the cam so the engine will be able to deal with the cylinder pressure and at the higher rpm, the piston is at the dwell point for a shorter amount of time.

    I'ma say the 248 on the door is in reference to the 248a option code for the 1996-98 Mustang Gt . . Factory lightweight. No power seats/windows. No mach 460 sound system, no fog lights, Factory rear spoiler delete. T45 with Factory 3:27 gears/ trac-lok diff. GTS was the 1995 version of this. I own a 96 248a myself .

      That's correct. Mine doesn't even have rear defrost or ABS. It also only had 2.73 gears but know its got 3.55. I love it!!

    Do you think ptv clearance would be an issue using this 262 cam on pi heads swapped to a npi block?

    • @JohnSmithRacing
      @JohnSmithRacing  4 дні тому

      That's a good question. If they do clear, it will probably be pretty close. To help with clearance, Modular Head Shop sells stock valves that have a ground down head for another 0.030 clearance or so. They might also be able to answer that question.

    @John Smith Racing are you using the stock 3-4cc dish pistons that the teksid blocks came with ? Pi heads n teksid block = 11.4:1ish static compression ratio ..

    • @JohnSmithRacing

      No, the engine has -11cc dish pistons. I believe the CR is around 10:1

    Thats decent mate, so 30rwhp? We didn't get the 2v's over here in Aus which is a shame. Did you gain usable rpm?

    • @JohnSmithRacing
      @JohnSmithRacing  3 роки тому +1

      It seems like it did. If you look at the graph he took it to 6500 rpm and was falling off but not that bad. The Comp 278's would probably extend the rpm a bit more but I don't know if I want to sacrifice the low end torque to do so.

      @madmod no but with his 10:1 compression there is Def gains to be had and with that and headers it works be over 300 which is what he said. Just headers alone would put it over 300 it's already over 290.
