  • We are in the middle of swapping the stock heads and intake on this 97 Mustang GT with a 4.6 here you can see the difference in size for the intake and heads from the stock heads to the PI swap heads and intake.

    Another thing to note is that the 'doorman brand' pi intake manifold for these engines have the big pi ports but the runners are short like the non-pi Ford factory intake manifold. -Always buy or source a Ford Racing PI intake manifold or their factory pi manifold, the doorman brand will sap your hp and your car will fall on its face around 4500rpm at wot. My P7B came with a doorman and the swap to the Ford Racing one was night and day difference lol

    There is another reason fornthe increase in power and that is compression. The non pi motor has 52cc combustion chamber and 11cc dish pistions about 9.8:1. Pi heads have 42cc combustion and 17cc dish. Putting them on a non pi motor gives you 10.7:1.

    I was saving money to do modifications on my 04 mustang GT automatic dark shadow gray I put chrome wheels on it cold air intake and a pi intake manifold and stop right there. Then I want more hp and after seeing what I would have to spend I decided to go and buy a 14 mustang GT 5.0000000yea sterling gray 6 speed and now I enjoy both cars capability for what they are have to offer the 5.0 is a beast the difference between a pony car and a stallion love them both just the way they are both with chrome deep dish wheels and Mickey ttttttttompsons

    Hey man I have a question for you!! I just diagnosed my crown Victoria misfire! Cylinder 4 on this 2v 4.6 my cam follower fell off ! Why would this happen ? I was able to reinstall it with a flathead screwdriver,no problem. I then checked compression on this cylinder and while the other cylinders tested at190-200psi and held there well. This cylinder (4)only got to 90 psi. A wet test brought it up to 190psi. A friend says”yep,bad rings needs a rebuild”. I dont believe it. The car has 40k miles on it. Should I be lookin for something else ? I’m a bit of a novice with auto repairs. With the cylinder on the compression stroke(not top dead center) I shot air into the spark plug well and can feel it freely leaking out of the intake port(I have the intake removed-another issue). Am I missing something ? Should the head be removed? This is my daily driver and only vehicle and I need it running by the time this quarantine crap is over. I also had a coolant leaking internally in the intake manifold. It’s possible it was pulling coolant into this cylinder ,even tho cylinder8 was right next to the leaking culprit

    • @mikehunt8247
      @mikehunt8247 4 роки тому +1

      Could be ring lands or a seating issue but it does kind of sound piston ring related. I'd have it diagnosed by a legit mechanic and see what they say. 40k miles isn't even at break in with those motors so idk what to tell you other than things do happen sometimes that are hard to explain

    • @garyr7027
      @garyr7027 4 роки тому +2

      Bad lifter will cause that issue. Make the cam follower jump out and little to no compression. The oil port could be blocked to the lifter, if so they'll collapse and you should be able to hear it ticking if it's not pumping up all the way.

    • @Clamjammer
      @Clamjammer 4 роки тому

      Thanks boys. I replaced the lifter and put everything back together. Even though that one cylinder had poor compression it all seems to be running ok. The engine is super smooth and seems to be pulling smoothly. Thanks for your responses !
      I also plan on retesting compression after I drive it for a while

    • @Giorobot
      @Giorobot 4 роки тому +1

      I would go with garry R. answer I've had an avalanche with no compression in cylinder 7 I took valve cover and saw the lifter stuck open... thus I do believe you have a bad valve related issue check cam shaft for tare or damage at the cylinder you found low compression also check for collapsed spring here is another test at tdc on the suspected cylinder pull spark plugs and the ones next to it then shoot air if it comes out the next cylinder means it's you head gasket

    Long runner dosen't make hp it makes torque and you make the most power with the jump in compression with a pi swap

    • @SpeedForceGarage
      @SpeedForceGarage  Рік тому

      yes longer runners do help make torque, it also helps with hp as well, not as much as the torque though. The larger runners also helps with hp in the higher rpms. yes the higher compression dose make more power throughout the rpm, which helps with the lower rpms and having larger runners.

      So you didn't change the heads to PI along with the manifold swap? How did you get the manifold to match up with the Mustang heads, spacer-adapters? Was there a big power difference over the stock manifold?
      I wonder why Ford didn't put the PI engine in the Mustang without any changes? Hood clearance from the hi-rise manifold, perhaps.
