    These cams with the stock intake didn’t loose any power down low. That’s pretty cool

    It’d be sick if you did a dyno comparison doing the same to the later PI 4.6l 2v to visually show how much of a difference is made.

      A newer pi head/piston engine will have lower compression and thus make less power

    Hey Richard,
    What do you think this application would have done with some stock Romeo heads? I’m guessing the ported heads did far less than the cam swap hear.

    • @madmod
      @madmod 2 роки тому +1

      Head porting can be worth good power on its own even with the stock pi cam and intake manifold however upgrading the whole combo (heads, cams, induction and exhaust) that you get much more gains. With that said, theres good power to be had from any of the 2v mod motors. The stock npi intake and cam is terrible but easily swapped. Companies like Renegade have really proved the potential with ported npi 2v combos. Johnny Langtons car early on ran with stock stock pi camshafts, stock pi intake manifold, 9.2:1 compression and running 12s in a thunderbird chassis which is a solid 3700lb car all with a 4r70 auto! This shows how much you can do with what these little engines got to give.

      Me and my friend are doing the same thing with his 97 mustang, we're doing the whole PI swap, heads, intake, we haven't decided on cams yet but Comp Cams XE270AH is what we'll probably go with, new torque converter I think 2400 ish stall, and 3.73 gears.

  • @jbodysblow09

    Was this cam used with stick pistons? Or were valve reliefs needed?

    • @madmod
      @madmod 4 роки тому +2

      These cams should clear as long as their degreed. They have less peak lift but the valve is open much longer due to the increase in duration. Imho, the valve doesn't gain a whole lot opening that few extra hundredths at the cost of duration. Mid lift flow is where it's at on pi hence why this combo works so well.

    so a non pi block with ported pi heads will make 350whp or crank hp while with just an exhaust and tune basically? thats absolutely insane...

    • @hyperwolfco8021

      SlpprEatrr 03 it’s because of the flat piston non pi motors came with

    • @kevinpazos9846
      @kevinpazos9846 4 роки тому +3

      No. Unfortunately a pi swap will not yield 350whp n/a unless some serious work is done to not only to the heads but also the bottom end (raising compression). Richard tests these engines with nothing but the crank pulley, he has a electric water pump, no alternator, etc. Etc. However that doesn't mean you can't eclipse the 300whp mark with a pi swap. There have been people who have accomplished that with stock cams. Also the npi bottom end came with a slight dish in the piston. They are not true flat top pistons. They have a dish of 10 or 11cc, I belive. The pi has a dish of 18cc I think.

    • @creepystank420
      @creepystank420 4 роки тому

      @@kevinpazos9846 not bc of a pi swap, but bc of the raised compression. Non pi block, non pi pistons, then ported pi heads, should give close to 10.5:1 compression which is what was making about 300whp. I know a simple pi motor wouldnt make 300whp without alot of work

    • @kevinpazos9846
      @kevinpazos9846 4 роки тому +1

      @@creepystank420The npi's biggest downside is mostly its intake and head design, although yes the added compression does help some you are indeed correct. Some people go as far as to swap a lincoln mark viii shortblock with pi heads to make well over 300whp with stock cams, as im sure you already know. Its a cheap way to lose 80lbs off the nose of the car and break 300whp, and compression would be in the 11:1 range. (dont quote me though I dont have my service manual near me)

      @@kevinpazos9846 after watching some more videos i found that bc of pi heads having a small combustion chamber, that causes the higher compression. My motor blew about two weeks ago and im looking for the best combo to throw back in it

      Assuming the tune is spot on you should pick up another 30-50hp with the increase of boost but it won't be till the top end.

      @@madmod if you changed the pulley that much power would be increased through the entire boost range

    • @madmod
      @madmod 2 роки тому

      @@bodyshotjake7475 The entire boost range offered by a centri is pretty much only high rpms. Centrifugal blowers always have a rising boost curve producing almost no boost until 3k rpms or often higher if you've got a well breathing combo. The boost response will be improved some but it won't get close to the low rpm boost response of positive displacement supercharging or turbocharging because that blower simply doesn't move air until much higher blower speeds. When you drop pulley sizes with a centri, expect gains past where peak power occurred prior but expect very little under 3k rpm because there's just not enough volume of air being moved at low blower speeds. I've actually got a v2 vortech blower off my old 98 planning to go on my mark viii so I've got good experience with these blowers.

      @@madmod depends on the Trim your referring to as well. I start making boost on my setup at 2800rpm I have a V1 upgraded to the Si trim. I’m running a 3.125 pulley and I promise you when I drop that to the 2.8 and add the 15% OD crank pulley my boost will increase in the entire operation range. Will it start to build at 1100rpm no but the range will open.

    • @madmod
      @madmod 2 роки тому +1

      @@bodyshotjake7475 Centris just don't have low rpm boost response and it's a moot effort trying to make it happen. Of course it will bring the boost in slightly earlier with an increase PR but you will see marginally no boost below 3k rpms regardless. Ideally you want as much blower speed with the least amount of measured boost as possible because centris always have a crazy rising boost curve with rpm.
