    Hi, Dr Zhang. Is this something that be used on an estuary with a hard body lure?

    • @johncaster4296
      @johncaster4296 26 днів тому

      Not really. You can use this on any calm water. It is not a hard body lure. It is actually quite soft.

    Love your videos! Do you have any thoughts on fiberglass vs graphite rods for bfs?

    • @johncaster4296
      @johncaster4296 4 місяці тому

      I only use graphite rods. Although it is more difficult to cast with those rods, they get me the distance and the sensitivity. I am also a fly fisherman, so I am quite familiar with fiberglass rods and bamboo rods. I know that people use them because they feel that they can not cast well with the stiff rods. If you watch the videos about casting I made, you will know how to cast them. Thanks for the question!

    • @fuzzy_little_duckling
      @fuzzy_little_duckling 4 місяці тому

      Yeah as Dr. Z mentioned graphite tends to be stiffer while fiberglass is more soft. So generally for bfs, ppl will fish with the softer fiberglass rods in situations where there's a lot of trees around and you're fishing a smaller body of water like a stream, so it's helpful to be able to flip cast in those tight spaces (distance doesn't matter as much as accuracy here). For the stiffer graphite rods ppl fish them in more open conditions like a pond, lake, or even the ocean. I feel like you can usually get some more distance with those rods too. Some lures also need that extra stiffness for a better hookset. For me, I prefer using a shorter fiberglass rod fishing in those small creeks for trout and a longer graphite rod fishing in lakes for bigger bass and stocked trout. There are many other factors that you also might want to take into consideration, like what lures you are throwing (like you might want a stiffer rod for lures that are heavier and have more resistance reeling back in), where you are fishing, what species you are fishing for, etc. Hope this helps 🎣

    Show them by getting g a big mouse or wetting a big stringer fly. Bfs would sling that easy. Where I live that's what they throw for huge browns. That's a great idea man. May need bfs for my fly game.

    I'm not sure that distance is very far, I can easily get baits 5-10x that distance on the curado bfs...

    • @johncaster4296
      @johncaster4296 6 місяців тому

      Usually, one can use a BFS reel to get more distance, but I can out cast a BFS reel with a Shimano Citica 100 DVS reel. In this video, I am trying to show that I can use a MG12 reel for dual purpose. Distance is not my main concern.

    • @danieldtanggmail
      @danieldtanggmail 6 місяців тому

      @@johncaster4296 that sounds like a good video to make, Citica 100 DVS reel vs Curado BFS (or some other modern BFS reel). I think distance here is important because if you are not really fully utilizing the main benefit of BFS reels (ie casting light lures far), then the comparison does not really make sense. For example, if you only get at most 30% the distance of a BFS reel, then the MG12 is not really in the same ball park as a BFS reel

    You are standing in a wide open field, where you can swing all over the place. Try to cast out of your wrist with just a little space around you like you would have in a creek/vegetation environment. Then you will see, how a good BFS reel will shine. 😉
