I am familiar with bfe.i mostly fish for bass and pickerel in ponds and lakes (bank fisherman)and I'm looking for a combo that I can use for texas rig small swimbaits for under 200 dollars
Why Im into BFS. 1. I live in Japan 2. I fish for trout. 3. Where I fish is usually tiny streams and dense overgrowth in the mountains. 4. I cast with wrist and flicks only. Smooth and accurete over distance. 5. I use ultra light bait. 5. The delay is less on a cast than a spin. 6. I just dont like spin 😂 It's not just a trend here in Japan, it's been around for half a century here. They've been modding reels almost as long as they've been modding cars
BFS has completely reinvigorated my passion for fishing. I disagree with reason #3 - I find BFS reels to be easier to use than traditional baitcasters. But yeah, if you get sucked into the rabbit hole it can be expensive. On the other hand, they are so many budget options out there these days it’s probably only us fanatics that have to try them all.
I can agree with that, bfs reinvigorated my interest in the details of it all. Got tired of typicall bass fishing. Interesting take on bfs reels being easier, I hear many people run into difficulty getting used to it at first. I know I definitely did at first, I had learned to set reels up completely different from the way that most set up bfs reels. Budget bfs thrives on the ones who spend THOUSANDS😂
I've been using Kastking Zephyr for last couple years now and they're pretty good for the price I got them for. It's not premium but I'm casting my small lures exactly where I want them to land. The thrill when you hook into a 4lb fish is unmatched.
@@TheHunterFisher Interesting. I just got a Zephyr about a month ago and honestly haven't used any of my other setups since. I use it with a 1/32 jig and a rocket bobber. I have it on a medium rod right now but definitely want to get a light or UL rod for it.
Why premium gear if you aren’t a premium fisherman? Fat chicks in designer cloths are still porkers. Some guys [ TRIGGER WARNING] go fishing to avoid their women and all the chatter.
My 25 yr old All Star Pro II light action 6 1/2’ bait casting rod is great for BFS. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, most of the commonly available bait casting rods had lots of flex just like many spinning rods. Even some of the older reels came with a plastic arbor you could put on the spool for light line and less inertia to cast lighter lures. People need to realize that BFS is just a label for marketing - many of the new BFS rods have actions just like these 20-30 year old rods. Sure, with technology the gear is better now, but I am glad to see the BFS trend because now those of us that want sport with smaller fish don’t have to put up with the decades-long dominance of broomstick rods brought about by what people watched during bass tournaments. Even though it’s still difficult to find a new bait casting rod with light action and low power, the BFS trend is getting people back to bait casting, including many of us that left that way of fishing years ago because light, sporty bait casting rods that bend well with small fish were getting difficult to find.
My MH Gloomis conquest rod paired with my 21 Antares DC ( sits lonely in the corner for 4 months now) While I take out my new, 23 Conquest BFS paired with my old 18 buoyancy UL rod. To the lake everyday
I've fished conventional reels for about 17 years. Many with no cast control at all. I fish conventional reels for almost everything. Even types of fishing where nobody in my country does. They all use spinning rods. I just like the feel of a conventional reel when playing a fish. However when it comes to extremely light line and lures, i just stick to a 1000 or 2000 size spinning reel. I just dont want the hassle. I honestly feel spinning reels are alot more versatile in this area. Im sure thats not a popular opinion here.
Back when BFS bait casters were introduced onto the fishing market I saw them as nothing more than a marketing gimmick reel aimed at the hardcore gullible bait caster guys. I still think that to this day. For the price of three to five hundred bucks just for the reel I could buy an entire spinning rod and reel or budget baitcaster rod and reel and still have enough for lures and gas to get me to the lake or river. I'm basically a chronically cheap fisherman. My fishing equipment is not top of the line by any means, and even with my cheapo fishing equipment I still catch fish; ultra light or whatever weight I'm fishing. Of all the fish I've caught on my inexpensive fishing equipment, not one single fish I've ever caught has ever complained or been embarrassed for having been caught on cheap fishing gear.
From cost, to ease of use, efficiency, and fun I haven't found one downside. There is plenty or resources to find affordable setups. I spent less on BFS than I did my first baitcast combo. It's easier to use than spinning setups and I've only found advantages..spinning setups are idiot proof and so is BFS and baitcast reels in general. If you can't do it you simply haven't given it any effort. It's no more a fad than UL fishing in general is. People from the outside looking in saying it's pointless, well it's no more pointless than a spinning rod when you could just use a cane pole with line and a hook. You can spend more money on absolutely anything in life...BFS'S are no different.
I used to break so many bfs rods...I upgraded my trout setup to a daiwa tatula 6' 6" medium, and a daiwa tatula 80 , not technically a bfs setup but I can cast my trout lures very well with it and keep better pressure on big browns
coming from a fly fishing backround I dabbled in some spinning on the side and then got into bfs, probably my fave way to fish now definitely most fun. started with the crappy zephyr about 3 years ago and now have the DWU and CC 23 which I love. it;s so addictive but yes you're right, expensive if you go down the rabbit hole but totally worth it
as a person who started bfs fishing 10 years ago. the price of it has drastically gone down. its gotten to the point where its arguably cheaper to bfs fish these days. great video but i wanted to point that out. its really cheap to use a reel you already have and get a shallow spool (another reason why daiwa is the best). and the price of these rods these days are cheaper than ugly sticks and are on par with alot of the expensive jdm rods people were paying 500 dollars for 10 years ago.
I like throwing traditional lures for bass fishing but some of the lighter stuff, I have bad wrists from guitar playing, so I like the idea of having a lightweight bass rod and reel set up. What reel. Do you recommend for 8 to 10 lb braid. And what rod would you recommend?

I have two BFS setups and it is easier to catch fish on a Baitcaster because of the drag adjustment on the fly. Yes it can be costly but not all the time. The Soloking Pro is only $50, but Shimano Conquest is among the best. It is hard to find a quality Light Rod, I use Cajun for $120. It is addicting as you said. @@TheHunterFisher you right about that.. lol
I think everyone has. I haven’t seen any info on it other than the release info.
Soloking Acura is debatably better than the shimano cal. And 35$ new.
Absolutely not😂
Good for maybe individuals who want budget, it’s a fantastic option. But the price is the only advantage it has comparing against the 23CQBFS.
I have it and every time I backlash the line go between the reel and the spool such a headache I had to switch from 4 to 6lb test and it seems like the magnets for the breaks are not good I keep it all the way up no matter what I’m casting wish it was better
I used to hate finesse fishing!!!!! till i found bfs now am all in to bfs
I started getting into doing more finesse fishing then I got drawn into bfs myself!
I had to subscribe after your response. Doc 1/5 Cav RVN 69-70
Went hard bfs for three years . Just sold it all . Had my fill. Still have baitcasters for certain things. Going to sfs.
I like a little of everything. I’m never dropping bfs though.
It suck, if you want to use small bait, just use spinning combo. It cast further and cheaper. Bfs just for look "cool & pro"
The kastking zephyr is the best beginner reel for BFS.
I’d argue Tsurinoya has much better options available for less.
@@TheHunterFisherI gotten cheapest reel on BFS empire and my friend said it’s easier then zephyr
bfs is not for everyone
Buzzbait , spinnerbait , crankbait ... click bait .

I disagree japan rules
I love your newspeak explanations. Good luck in the DNC.
😂🤣love it
Yes it does suck lol it sucks you into shaking more money out of your pockets lol 😅
B-roll
Ok, Kastking sucks… so maybe that’s why BFS could suck if you’re looking to buy US based. 😅
Hopefully we see that rumored Daiwa Tatula AIR this year, Im gonna try and be the first to get it😂
@@TheHunterFisher depending on timing I might race you! Definitely playing around with more Daiwa this fall. Got the Shimano line pretty much covered. :)
I’m due for another Daiwa, but if the tatula air TW comes, the SS air TW gonna have to wait!
Dude I'll take my sucky kastking gear out with you any day and out fish you and have more money in my pocket. All that high price gear doesn't put more fish in the boat. Just my opinion.
@@davidbrooks6084 which you are entitled to. I have just found their products to be worse than everything else I've tried, and the customer service matches. Also, their business practices are questionable. So I will not support them.
