Intense Lightning Storm & Lightning Over The Ocean- Myrtle Beach, SC (July 5th, 2002)

- I was actually on vacation, and not a storm chase vacation when I shot this video. Little did I know that after a long day of fun and sun that I'd capture some great lightning. I was hoping that we'd see a good thunderstorm while I was there, and my prayers were certainly answered! The first part of this video was shot from the 12th floor balcony of our hotel (The Coral Beach Resort). The view was looking towards the northwest as the storms approached Myrtle Beach. The second part was shot from the beach looking eastward as the storms moved out over the ocean waters.

lightning over the ocean is always so epic. it looks amazing. I love when it's dark one second, then the next you can see miles and miles out to sea. I couldn't imagine being someone out on a life raft in the ocean in the middle of a storm like this.
thats one of my true fears lol
Shitting a mixture of giant concrete blocks and cement poles.
Imagine as you observe the sky light up to illuminate just beneath the surface of the ocean swimming alongside your tattered raft a giant tentacled creature resembling the kraken.......😱😳😵💀

Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed! I believe that particular strike nailed a power transformer near the Myrtle Beach airport. It knocked out power in that area for a while after the strike.
those were the fireworks going off around town that evening. Many folks still had tons of them due to the fact that the 4th of July was the day before. Glad you enjoyed the vid! Thanks for commenting!

Yes, I love the natural sounds of the storms as well. And yes, Mike has a ton of great videos up on his channel as well. I didn't notice the fireworks when I originally shot it, but did finally see them upon reviewing the video back the next day :) It was pretty neat!
Those fireworks I saw couldn't even compare with mother nature's light show! Awesome footage.

That's exactly what it was. This was the day after the 4th of July so many people still had fireworks on hand from the night before. They were lighting them off in the storm haha. Thanks for watching!
Those are some unbelievable lightning bolts! Absolutely insane video! Definitely one of the best lightning videos I've ever seen!

It's actually on UA-cam's end. They introduced the 144p playback option on some videos and that screwed EVERYTHING up for many youtubers. It makes any video that's given that 144p option literally unwatchable. There's a fix for it which I am about to include in the Summary under the video player.

Yep! It sure was! That strike hit a power transformer near the Myrtle Beach airport. It knocked out some of the lights in that area for a while. You could see the transformer actually exploding when the lightning struck it!
Very nice! Looks like the Po-Po got him some fireworks shooters there at the end. I love Myrtle Beach!
