NYC Thunderstorms & Intense Lightning - August 16th, 2000

- www.ThunderStor... One from the digital 8 archives! This line of thunderstorms rolled through the NYC area around dawn on August 16th, 2000. On this morning I was treated to an intense lightning display, and this series of thunderstorms went down as some of the best in the NYC area that year!

@ozthunder Yes I'm with you! It's always nice to have storms come to you for a change :) I've finally gotten a hold of an old digital 8 deck and will be posting many more storm videos that I shot back in the late 90's/early 2000's! I started documenting extreme weather in NYC back in late 1985, first on audio tape, and then in 1987 I purchased my first video camera. Started chasing out in the midwest in 1999. Been quite a while for sure!

@Dolphindream15 It's very difficult to take pictures manually of lightning with a still camera. But, with a digital camera you can do long exposures at night and that increases your odds of getting lightning! Thanks for watching and I'm happy you enjoyed!
@skatahkickflip Hi! I take a few weeks a year (usually in May) and chase storms out on in the Mid West. Then the rest of the year I'll film storms around the NYC area. Any land falling hurricanes I'll also intercept and document as well. Thanks for watching!
@VideographyOfStorms Thanks Nathan! Me as well, I love going through my old storm archives, I get a lot of enjoyment remembering storms of the past. It also makes me feel a bit old too, lol.

Scott - I love your videos. Great lightining videos. I am crazy about thunderstorms. I grew up East Coast but live in uneventful California. I miss a good rip-snorter terribly.
Thanks, love a great lightning display, especially when travel is NOT involved. Our season this year has been very ordinary (yet gain, but opposite reasons). Two good setups have been wrecked by saturated mid and upper levels with of course the best shear being under that, not out in the sun ahead.

I remember that line was at the northwest far upstate, canda border an pennsylvania at 11:00pm august 15th, that made it all the way here overnight and intensified, I was a tween that time
