Intense Lightning & Thunderstorm- Fort Lauderdale, FL July 30th, 2010 [HD]

- www.ThunderStor... Not too shabby of a thunderstorm considering the overall thunderstorm risk on this day was only 10%. Storms started to fire up shortly before sundown west of the Fort Lauderdale area, and before long, there were several storms going, all of which were putting out intense cloud to ground lightning!

In all my years of videotaping storms here in South-Florida and in Tornado-Alley this is truly some of the best lightning footage I have ever seen. I just happened to be in the city of Parkland in NW Broward on this same night and was caught in a very intense Thunderstorm which lasted well over an hour.

I used to live in FT. Lauderdale two blocks away from the ocean and i loved watching the storms roll in and roll out , it was amazing, and an amazing vid

@kurtdog119 A few here and there, but they weren't all storm related. We had the big Blackout of August 2003 and that one we were without power for over 24 hours. Here and there the power will go out in a town while chasing storms, it's pretty common out there on the plains. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the lightning videos!

@BudTerenceSoundtrack Yes good eye there! One of the bolts hit a power transformer out in the distance and you can see it exploding! When I went to Fort Lauderdale, I loved how it the lighting just keeps coming and coming even without rain.
Sometimes I wouldn't even hear it, just see it light up behind clouds.

Awesome display of lightning. Between 1:20 and 1:30 at least three separate bolts take the same path and appear to strike the same spot.
@LuvsTstormTapes Yes, we may get some storms tomorrow as well, hopefully! Fingers crossed! And yes, the 5/29/95 storms were great! I remember there being a lot of cloud to ground strikes with that particular storm. Will have to purchase a deck one day so I can transfer all my old 8mm footage to digital.

looked like the lightning at 2:32 hitted an transformattion pole. its got some blue blinking secound just after the lightning hitted sometihin :)

I was in a power outage that lasted until about 2 a.m., and that was actually the longest power outage I've been in since moving to my new home. I've also seen some wild weather that created a possible tornado which caused a weather related power outage. Happened during the day, but I know that if the power goes out at night, it makes your house completly dark. We recently had a bad flood that produced water levels higher than Hurricane Agnes did in 1972!

The lightning bolts in your Fort Lauderdale video were just an incredible sight to behold! I know of a way you can tell how far away a storm is. First, you see the lightning flash. Then count in elephant until you hear the thunder. If you get to ten elephant before hearing the thunder, the storm is ten miles away. Have you ever been in any power outages before you started chasing storms? If so, how many power outages were you in, Scott?

Nope, that's exactly what I captured that day. I was right along the coast, and the winds were blowing in from the east. This will minimize the audible thunder at my location since the winds were blowing away from me. There were a few rumbles though during these storms, but they occurred like 10 seconds after the lightning so I edited them out to prevent the video from running too long. Thanks for watching regardless!
