Been pondering a Deadbolt for some time and this got me hooked. Thank you for the great content and build details. Looking forward to picking this up and upgrading asap. 👍🏻
I have a couple of scx24s and to add flex my fave thing to do is get multiple sets high clearance REAR links and Used those as front links for a longer wheelbase especially on the deadbolt currently running a C 10 rear link in the front and a deadbolt in the rear for maximum flex and Turns the deadbolt into an LCG crawler to where it almost never flips super cool build btw
Nice rig!!! She’s a beauty!! In my honest opinion, the DEADBOLT is the most underrated in the SCX24 family🤷🏾♂️ Glad you value and appreciate its prowess!!! Thanks for the free entertainment and family friendly content!!! Can’t wait for your next vid😎 Rob
I would like to get a Deadbolt to build, they have a lot of potential. But then again you can pretty much modify any of the scx24's to whatever you want. Nice build on yours, looks very capable! Thanks for another great video Adam, take care!!!
Thank you! That’s one of the best things about the scx24: interchangeable parts. Swapping links, driveshafts, chassis, etc you can do exactly as you say and Frankenstein any type of build you want 👍🏻
@@CapeCrawlers Mostly interchangeable, I accidentally ordered some high clearance links for the B17 Betty, much too long for the Bronco! Of course I could stretch the Bronco, but then the body would need modification. Not ready to do that just yet.
Have a box full of parts for my next build. It'll be based on the Deadbolt as well, and many of the parts you listed are in that box of stuff. Same MOFO axles, weights, wheels, etc. Although, I also have overdrive gears for the front, and a Furitek Micro/Lizard Pro combo. Have the same motor setup in my C10 and the torque/slooooowww crawl, and smoothness is vastly superior to the stock electronics. On that build I ditched the stock ESC/Receiver and am using a receiver for my Flysky GT5, with receiver and Lizard mounted on custom built boat sides, and battery moved up front. Been debating on ordering the C10 link set just to get the fronts for the Deadbolt. Now that I've seen yours, think I'll go ahead and place that order. Looking forward to this build, but I have a backlog of other RC projects that I've promised myself that I'd complete before starting new one... Probably shouldn't have clicked on this video then, huh? Haha!
@@CapeCrawlers Yep. Already have the base deadbolt, NIB, and all the parts in a box waiting for the build. Pretty much everything in your build, plus the Furitek and Flysky electronics, and a few other goodies. Just have a long list of other builds that need to be completed before starting a new one...

I know what you mean. My C10 is my small tire/scale rig, although I constantly fight the urge to go big on it! I like your approach with the secondary build. Just another reason why these things are so addicting!
Another interesting video. Thanks for the deep dive into the Deadbolt. I just bought a new Deadbolt off Amazon for $99 to build a Warthog. I don’t have all the options on mine. Injora stamped steel wheels & the Mofo 050 Torque Beast motor. I have Jeep HC links on both ends. No shocks & limit straps in the front, stock shocks without springs in the rear. It’s crawling good but I think I’m going to add some unstrung weight & see what happens.
What was the difference going to the Jeep links in the rear? I’ve got the JLU rear links lying around and have contemplated trying them, but it works so good right now I don’t want to mess with it
I took the $99 Deadbolt & put it in a 3d printed Warthog chassis which was actually designed for the Jeep JLU. I didn’t like it with the Deadbolt links so I started playing around with different links. I’m designed & 3d printed them so the expense was minimal. I liked it best with with rear JLU links all the way around.
Hey Adam! I was wondering if you might want to do a series with a new truck if your up for it. I think it would be awesome if you made an in depth guide of upgrades for a certain rig, (which parts you bought, and how you installed them). I don't know if this is a good idea or if you're up for it or not, but I loved the video. Making sure to get some parts for myself. Thanks man!
I have thought about this exact topic. I started my channel with most of my rigs already heavily built. It would be a lot of fun to build one from scratch. Any suggestions on which model would make a good series?
@@CapeCrawlers It would honestly be your choice, and which rig you want next! There are pros and cons of every body/model. Haven't done much research on which is the "best". I got my deadbolt a few days ago and I'm loving it. Thank you so much!

I want to extend the front end too. Are C10 drive shaft the same as the gladiator ones? Do you know of a cross reference chart that shows all scx24 link lengths and shaft lengths? Thanks for putting up this content.
Thanks for the support! Yes, the c10 and gladiator front driveshafts are the same lengths. I am not aware of a cross reference chart. I wish I was! If you find one, please let me know!
Hey Adam - I can easily lose hours watching your content - great combination of info and opinion - thank you. I'm kinda new to RC crawlers and have begun with a TRX4M and have spent way too much on mods (which is fun) but now thinking of a second build starting with an Axial product so would appreciate your opinion if choosing between an SCX24 and an AX24
Adam, it is Adam here. Can you give your your opinion on LGRP Super 8’s vs the RCAWD portals or any other manufacturer of portals. I’m leaving toward portals to help with ground clearance but would it make it to too heavy? Please share your thoughts and don’t be afraid to be brutally honest. Thank you!!
In full transparency, the only portals I have hands on experience with are the RCAWD units. The Super 8's are a straight axle design and I have not tried the LGRP portals. I love the RCAWD units, but the big C-hubs in the front do obstruct clearance. With options like Treal and LGRP out there now, you have more options than I did several months ago. With that said, I am not a fan of 3D printed housings like the LGRP, so my objective opinion is that the Treal portals are the best on the market right now. However, I prefer the RCAWD's from an aesthetic appearance point of view and I would probably still purchase them if I were to start over.
I really like the wheels that you used, but I was reading the reviews from customers on Amain and it seems like people had a very hard time installing the tires on the wheels. Did you have any difficulty or any tips? I’ll probably be using the same tires your using too. Thanks for any advice or help. This is my first Deadbolt build.
Hello Adam! I have a question about the double barrel shocks you have on your Deadbolt. Did they come w, or w/o springs? I kinda figured maybe you just omitted the springs. Also, which springs did you use inside the barrel? I am not much of a mechanic, so I need to find out what, and how you achieved that droop. Thanks for your time and I appreciate you.
@CapeCrawlers hi adam im doing a deadbolt build but for now i need to keep the stock chassis rails. ive removed the bumper so can i trim the excess off the frame upto the body mount to stop catching the servo? thanks
Correct, no springs. When you mount the shocks to the frame, it would traditionally raise your chassis, lifting your center of gravity. To mitigate that, I take the springs out to drop the ride height back down. That way you get all the articulation gains without raising your center of gravity
