My son and I both have scx24 JLU's and we discovered the same thing. Add a little width to the axles and a little weight down low plus a good set of tires and these things are surprising out on the rocks! Our stock motors are still going strong too. IMO these things work best when kept nice and light weight with out excessive amounts of brass, just enough to get the performance your after.
I agree! I dont think I'll add much more weight. I am going to focus on lowering the COG in the next phase I think. It feels really balanced right now!
Hey Adam, perfect example of why I watch your tutorials multiple times. I was having issues with my brass steering knuckles . I was nervous how bearings sat at on angle. I questioned what I was doing wrong. Thought I had received a mis-milled part. Turns out it was my assembly error. Thank you so much!!!
What a little monster! Amazing climbing ability! They are so much fun to mod though in my opinion. I love tinkering with mine. Thanks for another great video Adam!! Take care!!!
i found your videos just as i started upgrading my c10 i have copied a lot of your mods that you did including the patigonia tires, injora links, injora shocks, and the servo. i can count how many times i have watched that one video. thank you so much for your help
@@CapeCrawlers actually there is one thing. i love the tall tire throw downs, but i thing it would be cool to do a smaller tire throw down for the C10, cause the bigger tires kinda ruin the scale looks of the C10
Very helpful video. I like how you break down the steps very simply, yet detailed. Just got my first SCX 24- a Deadbolt today. Am stoked to try some mods that you have done, once I get done with the shake down period with this really fun RC.
Good explanation of the process. However I couldn’t tell any real difference in before & after. I have a 050 Torquebeast & it’s not smooth at all. The Injora Pro is slow in starting but this can be fixed with 50% UD in the rear. The Holmes hobby Torque Master Sport 050 55t is a nice motor too. I put UD in my Warthog & it now turns like it has dig & that’s with 5mm extenders on it. A good cheap motor is the Hobbypark CR-18 55t
Good stuff as always. My Rcawd cvds did not want to fit into my Treal overdrive gears. Back to the parts bin for them, for now. A little light filling will be needed.
Your layout or crawl table turned out great. I see you used insulation foam. How did you get the color of tire tracks on there and all the other colors? Looks excellent.
These videos are super helpful! I just bought a deadbolt and I want to make it as nice as possible for a 'flex' indoor course that i'm going to build, but still capable of climbing hills if needed. I've went through your top 5 mods video as well as this one and i'm wondering if the listed products are still relevant or if there's something better that has come along? Or anything you'd swap out, change, add or remove? Thanks a ton!
for a beginner not builder i already have 2 1/16 hbx bashers with plenty of spares, 1 ftx ravine 1/10 and always wanted this small 1/24 deadbolt because looks si sweet and si many possibilities to play indoor and outdoor. the inly thing putting me away e the price since it costs mire than my ftx ravine and is 1/3 of its size
They are pricey but I find so much enjoyment in exploring the near limitless aftermarket for customization options. I feel like the axial is well built, reliable, and fun to tinker on. But certainly not the cheapest!
Do you have a video of the next motor upgrade? I have an scx24 and want to do a motor swap. Just don’t want to spend money over and over. Looking for some direction for the best brushed motor option..
Possibly. Some of the bigger motors could benefit from a two speed. But I honestly don’t find myself wishing for a two speed except with the bigger, faster motors.
On this one, no, not in this video. I ended up going in a different direction with this build and outfitted a completely new chassis. I did 48mm shocks later on
Dude…I just installed brass knuckles….im sure you know this story…when screwing in my tie rod , it buttered off (never got remotely snug, just kinda fell in half) help me please!
evening i just happened to run across this as I was looking for some examples of the scx rc to start out i started with one and have kind of binged your videos I was wondering if you could do a comparison with the red dead bolt on the hyrax tires and a set of the comp pins of around the 65*19mm size snaggle tooth looked awesome with the tall ones and the little red one did awesome on the others and I am interested in that tire on your current build as that is the same as mine thanks
Thanks for watching! I’ve got a set of the new mini comp pins coming. I intend to put those on the red deadbolt. But I can compare the tall ones too if you’d like!
@@CapeCrawlers awesome I have two deadbolts one red one green still in the box got them yesterday with parts coming to address some of the things you pointed out and am in the process of building my first section of curse. For the folks that think I am going a bit fast into this, I may be new to the crawler Rc but not to the Rc life I fly FPV and have raced off road and street. I like you have a real-life jeep well more like 3 and build them to do different things, now I can build little jeeps and have just as much fun lol.
It will happen eventually. I feel like I'm still getting great performance out of the stock shocks for the moment. But you know I cant resist those long travel shocks!
@@michaleanderson7064 full disclosure: I had the torque beast sitting in my parts bin and that’s why I grabbed it 😂 I’m ready to invest in something new at this point though
You should try the Hobby Plus 030 88t, they are really quite good. It made a huge difference in my CR24. At the moment I'm running the 66t 050 in my Deadbolt, but will swap it out with the 50t Injora Pro motor (stronger, but draws more amps). You should really check out Donald Sneffes huge motor test, if you haven't already. His test showed that the Hobby Plus motor has more torque than the mofo onn, not by much, but a bit more, and it is way cheaper. In 050 size the RocHobby and Hobby Plus ones are really good for a cheap price. ua-cam.com/video/157wLxSU4T8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=donaldsneffe

It was this video and the other top five video on the deadbolt that convince me to grab one for my daughter
What a little monster! Amazing climbing ability! They are so much fun to mod though in my opinion. I love tinkering with mine. Thanks for another great video Adam!! Take care!!!
Thanks! I agree. The tinkering is therapeutic. It’s money well spent even if it doesn’t make the rig marginally better

Yesterday I ordered a Deadbolt directly from Axial, I just subbed your channel, and I'm following your lead my man.
Awesome! Thanks for watching! I’m brainstorming something wild for this build. Not quite sure what yet, but it’ll be interesting for sure!

There wasn’t much difference. The thing is so good they the course doesn’t even challenge it! Great insights on the motors - thank you!
Well done!
I like your approach to mods.
I’ve got a green Deadbolt that I’m starting to mod; I’m getting great tips from you. Thanks!

I used my Dremel to cut my cage and the top bar of the light bar looks way better

Bummer! I haven’t tried them in treals, only Injora and stock. I hope you get them sorted out.

Here's one I did for the LGRP brushed motors: ua-cam.com/video/efa20wzW680/v-deo.html I ended up with the LGRP Predator motor in this deadbolt.
upgrade front links to c10 rear up front.
sweet deadbolt
I was contemplating stretching it but didn’t think about the c10 rears. I’ll have to check that out.
Would you consider a 2 speed gearbox to make it more versatile?
Possibly. Some of the bigger motors could benefit from a two speed. But I honestly don’t find myself wishing for a two speed except with the bigger, faster motors.
Working on building my own crawler track... Wondering how tall your escalator is?
28” top to bottom I believe.
I'd recommend a comparison of a 50 size 50t vs a 50 size 66t
Good idea! I have both of the Injora models in the 50 size, but I would like to try other brands for a broader perspective.

Thanks! Yes, I’ve got two on order: one for me and one for my son. I got the black bronco and my son got the green defender.
Great I ordered a red bronco. Can’t wait to see what do to them.
