I have a question. When you play the notes like with your fingers, do you go over all the strings with the bow? I am getting a violin soon so I was wondering. I am in band and want to take orchestra in 8th grade!

Simple question from a new player. Why use the fourth finger on the D sting instead of a open A string? Just preference?

I want to learn violin can please anyone tell me which violin should I buy
If you are able to rent a violin from a local violin shop, that is your best bet. I strongly urge you not to buy a violin from Amazon...a lot of these violins end up needing *hundreds* of dollars to repair enough to even make a decent sound. Many music stores have rent to own programs so you can rent it for $30-$40 a month and then eventually own it.

I just started playing the violin like a year now and I thought you had to hold all your fingers down for a bit like a g on the d string you press all three fingers down. I am having a crisis and questioning if I am doing this wrong or right and honestly am confused
Hi! It's great to keep your fingers down for efficiency purposes, but when you use vibrato, you don't keep your fingers down, so we're in the habit sometimes of not keeping the fingers down. Does that make sense?

Both actually- I've only been playing for 6 months, so I guess I should continue with simple versions like Jingle Bells, "Over the Rainbow" "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," but I'm practicing hard because I want to get to more advance music like Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven. I started playing the violin for the simple fact that I love the sound of it and I desperately want to learn how to play "Devil's Trill Sonata" by Tartini. Anyway, you guys have great follow along videos! I learned two of them by heart already!

What does L2 and L1 mean?
L2 is low 2nd finger, meaning a lower sound than High 2nd finger, or touching the 1st finger. L1 is low first finger, which is closer to the scroll than the regular 1st finger spot.

My pinky finger seems to be too short i cant reach the A. And i cant hit the E note accurately when switching from 3th finger to 1st finger 😭😭 fml
This is something I struggle with too! Try putting your pinky down first and then going to your 3rd finger. Frame your hand first.

You must put all three fingers down... I'm in advanced orchestra
It's great to put all three fingers down, but if you are using vibrato, then you only put the third finger down while your hand vibrates. We are often in the habit of using vibrato when we play, so our fingers may come up!
