Also, an overfilled crankcase doesn't lubricate as well because the oil's ability to splash around is more restricted. He's got at least 6 ounces too much oil in that thing which is bad. I once overfilled mine by accident by 4 ounces and the oil didn't run out as quickly. I'm guessing the engine damage he has is because of an overfilled crankcase all the time.
A Snapple 16oz bottle fits over the oil extension tube giving a no-spill way to completely drain oil. Screw cap back on and you can't knock it over either.
My friend the reason why it smokes is you didn't change the oil at the right intervals. And look at the oil that you're draining out now that's way past when you should've changed it.
Hmmm, When I change oil I just tip the machine and the oil pours out. Then I tip it a little the other way and pour oil in it. It’s always worked well for me that way. I do agree, I wish it had a little bigger tank. I get about 8 hours on mine running a heater.
I have and have had the 3000is for a couple of decades. It requires the oil level be right at the bottom of the fill location. So, when filling you kinda have to see that area to know when it's full. If that red tube were clear/glass I'd say what a great idea. I find placing a rag below the fill area takes care of any minor spillage... Honda generators are the BEST!!
@@TestDontguess yes I have 2 five gallon can on standby . You have to fill the genset tank first or it will not siphon from the external tank and the fuel hose should reach the bottom of the tank . I can get a week out of two 5 gallon tanks . 👍

If you want this gas cap for free I'll give it to you. it didn't work for me. Not a good grip on the threads of the end of the gas tank. It will pop loose and stop siphoning gas from your secondary tank. Also the gasket that they give you with the cap will not hold up to gasoline. Absorbance cash expands and then tears extremely easy. mark rottjakob I have a similar cap that would do the same thing. The rubber gasket inside the cap was to thick and prevented the cap from tightening. I removed the gasket, the cap tightens and I get a good seal that I can siphon from the external tank.
That crankcase is overfilled by a lot. Don't do it. An overfilled engine is far worse than one that doesn't have quite enough. Oil needs to splash around to land in the places that need lubricating. An overfilled engine will not splash properly.
Excellent quality and works great as an alternate power source for my Winnebago RV when shore power is not available. Also great for Florida storm season and our fluctuating power. On propane, this starts up easily and no messy gas to deal with, very clean and easy to operate. Build quality is better than expected should last for years.
Watch the video showing the damage caused when the magnet falls out of that cheap Chinese dipstick. They're pressed in, when the aluminum heats up it expands, losing the magnet that destroys the plastic oil slinger in the crankcase. Nice $450 fix.
Very cool stuff, I found I could make my own oil drain tube with about a 3 inches of 1/2" copper or other pipe with masking tape wrapped around the pipe to bring it up to the right diameter, you will need to play with the amount of tape to get the right thickness. Once done you can screw the 3 inch tube in to drain the oil. works well in a pinch!
These generators would be incredible if they had a two gallon tank and a better opening to poor the gas into. I don't think I ever filled it up without spilling gas.
@@jredd801 You obviously don’t have one of these! It goes from “it’s almost full“ directly to “F’n OVERFLOWING” In about a microsecond!!! A funnel is not the issue.
All you need is a good gas can and a funnel. I never had any spilling problems. The generator runs 9 hours of less than a gallon of gas. How much trouble is it to let it cool down for 20 minutes to refuel it? It's good for the unit to rest after running 9 hours.
Honda 2100I companion Can someone help me i removed the tether that holds the gas cap on to generator in the process all the components fell out of gas cap and i cant figure the correct configuration of putting it back together so the off on switch works correctly on the cap..Any suggestions?
Can someone please help me? What are the dimensions of the oil screw and the thread of the tank on your Hondas? None of the suppliers specify the dimensions of the threads of the oil screw and especially the tank cap. I have a Zipper ZI-STE2000IV, this is supposed to be a clone of the Honda EU2000i. And I want to know if this set also fits on my generator. The thread of the oil screw has an outside diameter of 17.24mm, 0.68", the thread of the tank has an outside diameter of 45.9mm, 1.81". the gas cap is 43.3 mm, 1.705" inside. On the new EU2200i, the thread of the oil screw has been significantly enlarged. So be careful which set you buy.
Nothing wrong with the size of the gas tank. It will run for 9 hours on less than a gallon of gas. It's best to let it cool down for 20 to 30 minutes then refuse it. Your generator will last longer if you take care of it.
I'm trying to decide between one of these 2000 Watts for around $400 to $500 or buy a brand-new 2200 for about $1,000. I want to buy two and link them for an RV. So spending $2,000 plus tax sounds like a lot of money compared to $800. Many of the used ones don't have that much use and I'm just wondering how reliable they will be when already used. I know that they are typically very reliable
@@TestDontguess Why would you recommend the larger one? My issues are that its big, its bulky its REALLY heavy and hard to move. . The smaller ones are lighter weight. I can take one generator when I only need one. The big one costs $2000 for 3000 watts. The smaller ones cost $2000 for 4400 watts. More power for the same money. Way more versatile and easier to move around.
My 2200 will run a 13,500 btu RV air conditioner by itself. It surges when the compressor kicks on in stock form, but after installing a micro air easy start it is much easier on it. Extra cost of the easy start is worth it to me to power it with one small gen. Just my 2 pennies.
Great video I'm thinking of getting a new one of those that has Bluetooth. I like magnetic drain plugs unfortunately I saw UA-cam video where a guy had one in a Honda generator like this and that magnet came off and jammed inside crank case anyways hopefully that's a better quality one 👌👍👀
That kit don’t fit the new Bluetooth model, the gas cap fits but the new model has a bigger oil fill hole approx 1 1/8”....the filler and dipstick just fall into filler hole
Maybe because somebody actually uses their generator with 1000’s and 1000’s of hours and not like someobody as yourself which most likely it just sits on a shelf
If your over full , you are likely causing extra crankcase pressure. Better a shade low then over full.
