      @@DownsizingMakesCents I have one generator over 25 years old and still going a Coleman 1850 watt non inverter generator it's truly indulestructable. I've overloaded it pushing it to run everything even rattling the valves being overloaded over the years running it past the governor for more power in a pinch overspeeding it and still not dying. it has blown a resettable breaker over the years but that's it. Just flipped the breaker back on that's it. It has the bulletproof Briggs engine on it. I also have a new 2200 watt Honda on propane, Natural Gas and gasoline. The hutch mountain kit is truly the nicest fuel conversion kit I have installed. I've only used propane on the Honda. I had a cheap Chinese 80cc inverter generator and I burned it up.from overloading it the motor would still run but the overload light just kept coming on and wouldn't make any power. Have you ran your Honda that hard over the years? The reason I ask I'm a little cautious to use another inverter generator of any type after burning one up. The inverter board died in it.so if you see the overload light keep coming on or shutting the electrical power off you better reduce the power or not try to run it overloaded. even honda-tech out of Georgia said this but I wanted to see from someone that owned a Honda a long time and maybe ran a generator as hard as I have. thanks.

    Great video from 3 yrs ago, Thank you. I bought my EU2000i a few months before Hurricane Charley, we lived in Punta Gorda (ground zero for Charley) It has performed flawlessly ever since 2004. I usually get 9 hours run time to a tank of fuel. Had it running for 15 days straight until the power was restored to this area. In 2022 purchased a EU2200i as a back-up after Hurricane IAN clobbered us once again, this time living in Port Charlotte. I use the EU2000i weekly to do the yard trimming, have a little trailer I tow behind the lawn tractor to carry the generator and various yard tools It's been a life saver..

    I'm in the market for our first generator and keep going back and forth between the spec-comparable $500-$600 generators and a new Honda 2200, although the Honda is double the price. I bought a 2,200 watt Kohler generator from a preacher, who bought it at a power company auction. It started it's life installed on a power company truck. I worked construction and used that generator regularly for 18 years. The rings were getting worn and it was starting to smoke a little, plus I wanted a 4,000 watt generator, so I sold the 2,200 watt and bought a new Coleman 4,000 watt, manual start. I used it regularly for about 9 years and then I retired. I was still living on the coast then and had to use it after a tropical storm knocked out power for a few days and after Hurricane Ike blew through. I moved inland and I keep it in my shed, because periodically bad weather will knock out power for several hours and this 16 year old generator can run my window AC, which is a must for surviving Texas summers! My "secret" for longevity is regular oil changes, completely running the gas out of the carburetor when I'm done using it and never storing it with gas in the tank!

    I have both of them and they are absolutely the best little generators Lon the market. My 1000 watt model has about 1600 hours on it and it still starts first pull every time. My 2000 watt model has almost has over 2500 hours on it and it operates flawlessly. I installed small hour meters on all of my portable power equipment just to keep up with the oil changes.
    I have always run full synthetic oil in my engines so perhaps it has contributed to the long term reliability..

    When we bought our first TT we too bought the Honda EU2000i. That was in 2002, we saw it at the big RV show on Pomona, Ca. We just knew we had to have it and paid about $900 for it if I remember. Just last year we traded it in for a 3000w and received roughly $800 toward the trade. That generator was 17 years old. That tells you what the expected life span is and we hope our 3000w will give us that many years as well.

    Love my 2000, I have had it nearly 15 years myself here in the Northeast. It was enough a couple winters to keep the heat, hot water, and a tv on in some pretty spicy snowstorms. What more do you need? Well, the answer to that is a EU3200i…..just picked ours up and I’m excited about still being portable with another 1000 watts on hand. We invested in the eu7000i last year to back up the house, but can just as easily do that with the 3200 depending on the time of year & climate and then still haul the 3200 to the cabin. You do get what you pay for and there is a robust dealer network everywhere, should you need parts or service.

    I bought one of these at least 12-15 years ago. Was trying to use it with my pickup camper to run the AC primarily. It would not start theAC so I bought a second one and connected them with the factory kit. That worked great. I see they offer a soft staraccessoriy for the AC now but it would not work back then. Both still work perfect but I don't use them often anymore as my last couple of RV's have on board units.

Supplied power to our house several times during ice storms and power outages over those same years. It worked flawlessly starting on one or two pulls. My wife could start it easily. I just retired mu EU2000i. Had it about 10 years. It's got me by but I won't miss it. It's underpowered for my purpose as an emergency power back up for my home. I have frequent power outages where I live and have had 3 outages in the last 12 years of 5 days or longer. Many more a few hours up to a day. Apart from being under powered it frequently gets a blocked main jet that requires pulling the carburettor of regularly to unblock it. It served me OK but there are much better generators available for less money. I've now got a Chinese made Rato 4kVA inverter genny and it's been a huge upgrade. I will keep the Honda as a 2nd tier backup although I doubt it will see much use going foreward. I'll start and run it every 4 months to keep the carburettor from gumming up.

My buddy is very good with small engines and had it all taken apart to dry and 2 days later while still on the island she fired right back up, the charger did not fare as well, I told the story to the Milwaukee rep at a demo day and she handed me a brand new charger from her truck, it's stuff like this that make me loyal to certain brands.

    We own two 2200i Hondas. One is the companion. When we had a hurricane in 2020 and was out of power for 3 days (lucky us), I ran these in parallel for the whole 3 days non stop with an extended run tank system I made. I ran my two fridges and freezer, some lights in the house, a tv with firetv streaming from cellular wifi. a portable ac unit, the inground pool lights over head for some light outside, a microwave, and kept charged the I pads and phones. My poor neighbors had just bought like $400 worth of frozen food before knowing about the hurricane. She begged me to please try and help her. So I said I would only if my generators did not overload. So I ran her deep freezer, no big load at all. I told her to add her side by side fridge. Still ok. Told her to add a few lights, charge her phones. Still worked great in eco mode and the gens did not ramp up to full speed and ran all of this for 3 days non stop. On the third night, we had a pool party with two other neighbors and added the big Bazooka G3 36 inch sound par to the setup. Still worked awesome and still the gens did not ramp up. These gens are nothing but awesome. You get what you pay for!!! This year we are buying a third 2200i companion to parallel all three for 50 amp power( really close ) to run our camper (30a) and the some things in the house for this years hurricane season

      @@DownsizingMakesCents Its easy really. There is a online diagram that will show how the generator is wired. The parallel ports are actually wired off the 15a plugs. So actually you can use a suicide plug and plug each into each other. Better would be making a 30a or 50a plug box and run all the pigtails into the box off the parallel ports. The Hondas synchronize the sine wave automatically.

    • @tomtee4442

      With 2 generators they say it doesn"t matter which side is hot and neutral but what about the third generator I was always thinking about using 3 inverter generators paralled together. I thought if I can't find a video wire 3 neturals together and tie other hots together should work.

    • @leewarner9357
      @leewarner9357 3 роки тому

      @@tomtee4442 , you need a meter to determine which is hot and neutral on the pigtails before making a plug yourself. There are a ton of videos showing 3 way paralleling with the Honda gens. When I seen the wiring diagram of the generator. I found out the parallel ports are just wired into the receptacles. Just make a suicide 110v plug and plug the third gen in one of the other gens receptacle. Dont mix and match Hondas with some other brands though. The Hondas sync together with their inverter. This year I'm getting another companion to have 2 30 amp plugs. Follow the same procedure as running two in parallel. Start one at a time and wait for the gen to stabilize, then move on to the next. Also remember, if you are going to run 3 gens, the companion (if you have one in the mix) with the 30 amp plug still will only be able to safely do 30 amps. That's where a second companion would help with a second 30 amp plug. With 3 eu2200i gens, you can expect up to 45 amps continuous and a surge at 50 or higher at 110v.

    • @tomtee4442
      @tomtee4442 3 роки тому

      @@leewarner9357 you're right as long as you use a 3-way plug with the ground on bottom and say for instance the hot on the right. That way instead of a basic plug they don't get swapped around. the ground plug on the bottom would keep them straight or wire them that way. I've got a new Honda 2200 watt tri fuel conversion hutch mountain kit just running propane. But after burning up one New cheap Chinese 80cc engine 2200 watt generator only running propane fuel little less than 3 amps total on echo idle with an electric blanket for 6 months around eight hours a day. I'm a little hesitant of using any inverter generator after burning up a cheap inverter board. generator still ran but overload light come on instantly and wouldn't make any power. even Honda tech out of Georgia said be careful because they also have an inverter board in them that can burn up from overloading. From what I experienced and found out later If overload light comes on you should reduce power or cut off something. if generator overload light comes on and inverter generator stops making power it's giving you a warning before the generator inverter board burns up. I'm use to the non inverter bulletproof generators one a Coleman 1850 watt generator and a 5000 - 6250 watt Maximum non inverter generator too. I've had both generators for over 25 years and still going strong. I've ran everything on it including sensitive electronics that never burned up anything and both generators are still going strong. Non inverter generators will pop the resettable breaker. You just push it back in and they keep going if the resettable breaker blows but they're very very dependable.the bigger generator non inverter is very loud the 1850 watt Coleman is relatively quiet not bad it's a camping And I've had so many things plugged in it the valves rattled but nothing ever blew up or died. And I cannot find anybody that has ran a inverter generator off of an electric blanket for a long period of time off grid like I did. People just say the Honda should be able to take it.

It leaked gas all over itself the 1st time I tried to use it, so I sent it right back. Great video in terms of production, presentation, and information! You clearly know what you are talking about. Honda makes great generators, but Hyundai is a reputable brand as well. I am thinking about an off-grid lifestyle and testing 2.4 kW solar setup with 8 kWh of capacity in storage container. I will need backup for winter, though. Setup is decent, but still not enough for loads like dehumidifier in winter conditions. Hyundai has a nice 3.2 kW generator that is quiet and efficient, as well as equivalent units 1 and 2 kW. I am thinking about 2 vs 3.2 kW units. The bigger one seems to be more suitable for RV and future proof. The smaller one is more portable, though.

      I like having the smaller lightweight generators, and since our generator is really just a battery charger for our solar system, we don’t need a lot of on demand power. The inverter can deliver a lot of juice when combining battery power with generator power we never need more than 2200. Good luck with your setup. Larry

    Hi i am graham tarling, I live in ruislip, west London uk. Your video was very very good and informative, and you asked for comments etc, well you may be interested in my short story.
    I bought a 2nd hand eu10i honda way back in the end of july 2015. purpose was to run speakers outside for Zumba classes where no power available. I serviced it when i got it, changed oil for honda sae 10 30 marine oil, did the air filter and spark plug, all of which were in good condition any way.
    Sadly i only used it twice in august 2015, put it away without draining fuel or anything, and it has been in my stairwell of my flat totally untouched until 7th july 2021, thats six years without touching it.
    So I thought just get rid of it because i clearly thought it was scrap. But I decided to try and get it going so perhaps i could use it to power my electric hedge cutter, blower, shredder etc etc.
    Well, all the fuel had gone, so filled up with petrol with fuel stabi and carb cleaner, would not start. So undid fuel drain on bottom of carb, let fuel run through, then tried again to start it. IT started 2nd pull, run ok on non eco mode but hunted badly on eco. SO put some more 10ml carb cleaner in fuel tank and ran it for 1 hour, it ran perfectly, sweet as a nut. So changed the oil, it was already very clean, checked air filter, decided to change it anyway, checked plug , fine. Used it yesterday 17 July 2021 for about an hour on eco mode to power my 500w hedgecutter, ran really well, could not hear it above the hedgecutter noise in eco mode. Fitted custom magnetic oil dipstick and , and used custom oil drain plug to drain the oil, just ordered cover for it and plan on using it on a very regular basis, instead on my petrol hedgecutter etc etc.
    Hope this is of interest to you all,
    Kind Regards Graham Tarling

    Great video. I recently bought a Honda eu2200i to replace my old John Deere G250 (2500W) conventional genset which still works but is way noisy and now too heavy for me to move around as it doesn't have a wheel kit. I'm expecting this new generator to power a fridge and freezer although not at the same time, a gas hot water tank exhaust fan, sum pump and a couple of lights all in the event we have an ice storm or other power outage event here in Canada.
    Oh, BTW I also have an old Honda EX650, still runs well, to supplement low wattage low draw electrics as well.

      There are really two types of generator owners. People who bought Hondas and people who didn't and constantly compare theirs to a Honda. Don't get me wrong, Yamaha also makes a top shelf model and they all work. The difference is real, you get what you pay for. The cheaper ones have to run at higher RPM to deliver the same power, which means they are louder (even though they post similar dB ratings ON PAPER) and any time you have to run an engine faster it is incurring more wear. So as someone who did the research and made the decision already, I would advise a Honda or maybe Yamaha vs the cheaper generators. Some people will say "but the Honda doesn't even have a fuel gauge" - anyone who really uses their Honda has an extended run tank anyway that DOES have a fuel gauge.

  • @JohnSmith-yv6eq
    @JohnSmith-yv6eq 3 роки тому +1

    Forgot to add...it may be worth considering that the extended fuel supply to use might be an outboard motor tote tank with a fitting feeding into a modified fuel cap on the generator (the built in air vent replaced with an airtight outboard motor end fuel fitting)...so as the fuel in the generator's onboard tank is used the suction draws fuel in from the outboard tank (with it's vent open, of course)
    The outboard tote would fit nicely on top of that table over the generator.....
    When you pack up, replace the normal cap on the generator fuel tank.....for ease of transport/ storage.
    Taking the outboard hose off the fitting automatically seals the fuel hose, as does taking the hose off the tank end....easy for transport/storage, too.

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  3 роки тому +1

      I have seen these specialty caps being used on honda generators in many commercial applications like food trucks etc. They can run all day without having to worry about refueling. We never run ours for more than a few hours at a time with the RV. When were were using it for hurricane power, one of those set ups would have been very welcome because we ran it almost 24/7 for a week or more. Larry

    I've looked at a lot of generators in the basic 2000 Watt Chinese portable suitcase inverter generators most all have a 79cc engine and don't have the amps. Most of the time they don't list the amps which are relatively low when they do. The Honda 2000 is proven stronger than anything in its class. The Honda 2000 has more startup and running amps than any thing in its class. I tried the cheap route first but I burned up two cheap Chinese inverter generators. luckily they were still under warranty. The one traded and the other one I still have and plan on selling. When you really run something hard like me you got to have quality. I did buy a camping generator back in 1994 at Walmart for about $399.00 and the generator which is a Coleman pulse 1850 watt camping generator non-inverter style portable and but relatively quiet. It has the bulletproof Briggs & Stratton engine. Still runs perfect today. I wouldn't trade it or sell it for the world. I also changed it over to dual fuel and now only run propane in it. I've also converted my new Honda 2200 and new Honda 1000 generator over to tri-fuel. Once you go to The lazy Man's fuel, propane that is. you won't go back to the headaches or problematic gasoline. No carburetor problems, no treating fuel ever, running propane you never have to start it like gasoline. Periodically, propane runs cleaner, propane engines last longer and at $2.00 a gallon for propane it's far cheaper. I'm from an old school I like stuff to last a lifetime. Even though I can work on things I don't want to other than two thoroughly maintenance it. Also with propane it's almost maintenance-free compared to gasoline. The engine on propane the oil stays super clean, the spark plugs a super clean like new. An engine on propane the engine oil doesn't break down or turn dark like a gasoline engines oil does.

      Yo sold me Tom, I am going to get the propane kit for my 2200. I love all the advantages that you mentioned but especially not having to deal with gasoline which is a pain in the ass. The only thing good thing about gasoline is that it’s available everywhere. Larry

    • @tomtee4442
      @tomtee4442 2 роки тому

      @@DownsizingMakesCents I added load blocks on my tri fuel kits to fine tune and lil more power on generators. mainly to start an air compressor that was having a hard time starting on the standard trip fuel kit after adding the load block it started air compressor a lot easier. when using a load block you can't lean it to much. but you can run too much fuel and overheat generator with propane. that's what the professionals have told me over the years dealing with propane. also running lean on propane you're more fuel efficient and more power.
