I inherited the 1630 from my Mom about 18 years ago. I like using it - the only machine I have that has the automatic needle down position. I do find it difficult to seen the screen and the cursor at times. But I wish I could take lessons on how to use the many amazing features. Would live new machine, but they are so expensive.
Hi Vyshitia, I have just repaired my wife's ROLLERBALL that was sticking.....I used alchol spray that we are using for covid 19 hand cleaner , and it works great. Best of luck and let me know if it helps..... Sean from the UK.
I have this machine but sadly it no longer works. I was told by the service engineer that the defective part which controls the tracker ball is no longer available from Bernina!! - so it will now have to be scrapped. Not good for the environment. I have since bought a used Bernina 1008, a basic model but am not happy that such a simple part is unavailable.
If you're on FB, look for the Bernina user group. Lots of dealers don't know how to repair the older machines. There's a Martin guy in Newburg, PA that specializes in antique Berninas. This is the same machine I have and have discovered that Bernina dealers are a dime a dozen and usually have incompetent service people.
@@cheryoung6972 Thank you for the information. However, I live in the UK. I am not on FB but the service engineer is a reputable engineer and is a Bernina agent. He knows about this problem with other customers with the same model so I trust him when he says the part is not available.
@@smontgomery3759 maybe try ebay?. Lots of people report they can find parts on there. Luckily you have a reputable Bernina serviceman. I live in SC and my closest Bernina dealer is incompetent at service
you can repair it with a silicone earring backer. my machine has the same problem. It sounds like it's a very common part to go out. check out the UA-cam video the shows that repair. if you donated this machine to a Goodwill, I probably bought it and fixed it.
there's a knob on the top right-hand side, above the handwheel. it's shaped like a flower and very hard to see. the backlit portion of mine went out but it's still usable
There is a black turn screw above and to the right of the needle. Turn that to loosen the needle and pull the needle down to remove. Slip the new needle up into the same slot and tighten the screw. Make sure when you insert the needle, the flat part of the needle is facing the back.
I thought my light went out so I went to a repair shop, the technician put a new one in but it still goes out sometimes I think it is a wiring issue. (Bernina 1630)

I have this machine and I hate it. I bought it used, it is impossible to understand, the video is absolutely no help. I only use either the straight stitch or the zig zag. Thank goodness I only paid 25 bucks for it. Using a "ball" to operate a sewing machine was a huge mistake, totally useless.

My tracker ball is defective and I’ve had it repaired once and dealer now won’t stand behind it. I’d sell mine if someone wanted to repair it.

I just inherited one. The Bernina guy in my city said even if the ball is broken, it is a good straight stitch and zigzag machine. I need a manual.
