The Best IR Laser That You Can (Not) Buy | Raid XE

- The coolest laser on the market is basically civilian vaporware, and by all accounts. Will continue to be into 2024. Shame I really like this thing.
Not sure why it needed a light sensor, LCD screen, and the worst tape switch on planet earth.

Yes I'll Review The MAWL, I have one (no need to rush review it).
Any plans on the eotech laser module when it comes out?
No you don't
@@KrautSpaceMagic hops done a video featuring it so either he does or it's Hops and he's using it
@@Silverdunk it's not coming out this year, but yes.
@@gamez4420 no I have my own, hop returned his.
The best LAM is always the one you don't have or the one that's twice the price of what you already got. Thought the rules were pretty clear
Like magazines N=N+1
Hahah nice. Spot on.
The best LAM is on and zero'd to your buddy's rifle.
Just wait till you hear about the mil exclusive ones
Isn’t that basically true though for 99% of us?
Just wanted to say thanks for getting into the world of NODS, I’ve been on the fence for a real long time and your content really helped me make the plunge!! Saw that 15% off and had to do it. I wish you plenty of success
welcome to the addicting world of nvg
OMG thank you so much for this. There are almost no reviews on this thing, you are a life saver
The swtich has a LOT of functionality. You can configure it to however you want, but out of the box its flood, fire setting, dual low. As far as the setting for short range. It must be set on dual or illum low to do short range or flood. Once you figure out what the buttons do its easy. Nothing touches the Raid. The Raids are also being changed to allow for legacy(crane) type buttons with a junction box.
Thanks for putting this together! The video looks great!
This would've been the perfect video for a Raid: Shadow Legends sponsorship.
I KNOW I FUCKED UP
IM SO SAD>
A video on thermal and NV long range scopes would be dope.
Amazing video. The different music track is a very nice touch
Thanks for great videos, your channel is one of the greatest when it comes to NV. Any chance for you to get your hands on ZenitCo LAMs?
New to this channel. Love your content and reviews. Thanks for finding rare shit and reviewing them too. You have a new ‘’Subscriber “. Good vibes and respect from San Diego. 🤙🏼
Brass facts for the win your my go to guy when I wanna show others gear reviews
Let’s gooooo I’ve wanted to see a good review of one of these for awhile
Loving all the dancing in the dark content. Definitely have gleaned some knowledge nuggets off it. Keep up the solid work man.
Thanks for doing these it’s really helping me learn as a novice
This videos awesome, great to see what the high end of the market actually looks like. Curious if thered be any update on the enclosed red dot comparison video? Looking to get one to put on top of an lpvo and cant afford an acro lmao
I ended up buying one more RDS for the review. so it'll be another month or so
The one I just got came with a crane junction box included along with the same goofy 3 button tape switch you have in this video and works great. You’ve got to remove the property junction box and put the crane type box on to use with a regular tape switch
Definitely enjoy the content, especially the NV stuff
FYI raids are definitely available. I just got my second one today. First one was received April 2022. Both full power.
Where can you buy full power?
I'm glad that I have so much LAM information at my fingertips - it's gonna save me the headache in the future when I buy one, whenever that is.
Get a NGAL it fits all my needs and is light
@@breadm8101 I'd also need to get NODs first, lol
or at least a monocular
@@a-n-d-r-e-w-k oh yah true🤣 usually good to start with a monocular unless you're getting offered a good deal for duels. I'm saving up for quads I already have a monocular
@@breadm8101 hell yeah
I see that BRN180S you’re running. Hope you share your thoughts! I’ve loved mine for 3000ish rounds so far and am seriously looking at the new suppressed optimized upper.
Love to see the brn-180s upper, I love mine
Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL = Vic Sel < pronounced). But it is still a great video.
I got two dbal d2’s second hand with VillianWeaponSystems diffusers for 1000 and 1050. For the money and the super easy diffuser caps, I’d say it’s still best bang for your buck, if you can get over the thicccness. Praying that Holosun comes out with well…basically “copied “ technology and gives us a full power performance unit in a civilian model.
Brass Facts Friday is back!!!
You can get FP units second hand if your lucky and shopping in the right place. The civis are much more common. I seen a FP red laser unit for sale for 5800 back in Feb.
I love my somogear. Besides build material quality, it's performed the same as my issued peq 15.
This is good to hear, I've been eyeing one for a minute now. Where did you buy yours? Everywhere I've looked has been out of stock for a while.
An option I haven’t seen anything about is the invisible sight peq clone that is supposedly a full power laser made in the US. It seems like it could be a scam, but if legit definitely a viable option.
Not quite right. It's made overseas with American-made components. Weird change of pace, huh? It does, however, have a very, very long lead time. As does the IS NGAL.
Cool! S3nd me some of the old stuff to test out! 😅
Doggo bits at the end are my favorite
I almost bought 3 of these back when you could get them. Sure wish I pulled that trigger
Hell I was lucky to get a PVS14, XPS3 and a LS321G. The next LAM I ever get will probably be potted for an extra 10 bucks😂
Lolz same
My brother Hop brought me hear.
Thanks Hop💪🏼
I've been running a Perst 3 for two years now and it's pretty awesome. However, I got to use a real NGAL and boy howdy is that thing stupid powerful. We are talking makes my Perst seem like an Amazon airsoft laser.
New to your channel and love it!. Unrelated to this great video, I wanted to ask you if your prefer dual PVS-14'S on a pano vs. dual tubes of other sorts. Is the weight worth the wider field of view? Thanks!
I think so. (prefer the dual FOV). There are times where I like the standard setup. But that's quite rare.
Oooh I hope we’re re we getting a BRN-180 video soon.
Hey I want to point out something. I am not sure if I misunderstood what you meant about the low power illuminator or if people are not able to switch the settings which is actually a problem in itself - the UI is confusing and overly complicated.
Here is how it works. On high power illuminator, you only get high power. You can adjust the focus of the laser to get wider or narrower, but its always pretty narrow no matter how wide you set it. However, if you switch the dial to low power illuminator, it functions the same with reduced brightness. In low power on the dial setting, you hold the center select button down for a few seconds and it switches from the laser based spot illuminator, to an LED based flood illuminator. It becomes significantly wider and will light up an entire room or backyard. You lose the laser spot so distance targets will be an issue but now you can see the whole tree line instead of a small sliver. When this is on the flood illuminator in low power setting, keep in mind there is a visible red signature out the front like most LED based IR lights.
I just picked up my RIAD XE and noticed a bug. If you set the dial to high power, then hold center select, you will notice the screen switches from LONG to SHORT modes, indicating that you have put the LED based flood on, but nothing actually changes. You have to set the dial to low power, to actually see the difference and activate the LED flood illuminator.
EDIT:
For the record, if you didnt see the LED flood in person, its not actually that great. It's not much brighter than the built in IR flood feature on a PVS14, it just has a super clean round beam with no artifacts instead of the nasty mess you see with the PVS14 LED. It spreads wider and further, just not much brighter.
gotcha thanks! That is indeed a bug. the manual states that this mode can be accessed from any setting.
thanks for the clarification, this stumped several Raid Xe owners
@@BrassFacts I honestly see no reason why they couldnt allow both on at the same time, for flood and spot. One or the other is kind of dumb. Doesn't the MAWL allow both?
What I found helpful in operation is leaving the LOW power dial setting, set to SHORT LED based illuminator instead of low laser. That way all I have to do is dial the switch over from low power for led flood, to high power for laser spot, never having to press the select buttons. It makes transition from flood to spot pretty seamless, you just have to feel and count 3 clicks on the dial when you do it to make sure illuminator and laser combo is on together instead of one or the other 🤣
U should give the Viridian HS1 IR a shot. It takes a goofy battery but it's compact, reliable and most importantly CHEAP. Got mine on sale for $110, normally they're about $180.
Ouch. That thing will fall apart after 1k rounds.
@@FXIIBeaver I've got around 3000 rounds through my rifle with it mounted. No issues so far
Do y'all ever get POI shift when switching to different 3 or 4 prong muzzle devices?
Could you do a comparison between all Prism sights?
Acog, Elcan, Swampfox Saber, Vortex Spitfire 5x, Primary Arms SLx 5x and whatever else you may find.
And hensoldt 4x30
I think you need some more time with it. The ergo switch is actually fantastic. Programmable, and can set to room flood, long range, and vis override all with the press of any 3 of the buttons. If you want simple on/off, the gen2 that allows the legacy switch could work for you, but youre limiting the capabilities of the unit. It also smokes the mawl. Easier to use, fits in a better spot.
what music? great review as always. praying for that LS review, inshallah
BCA hit you up for T&E too? Thought that upper looked familiar…
BCA = Beer Creek? Nope. it's either a PWS or BRN180.
I’m really looking forward to the OGL.
Congrats on 66.6K subs
Well done
My somogear peq clone makes my friends cry, and I got one before the prices went up.
Looks awesome
Also, have you or Hop put IR trail lights on any of your vehicles?
Is it possible to retrofit some of the low power ones with a stronger laser? I know the torque test channel guys did some laser tests and most of them are way above their rated power....
yes in theory. The FP laser and illums are easy to come by.
Have you used a Perst 3 or will you review one? I like mine so far.
Real MAWL, and the real Eotech when it’s here
Babe wake up brass facts made another video about ir lasers
Congrats on the sponsorship
Do monolithic uppers make the most sense if you are using a LAM or are there some acceptable standard rails the you would recommend for use with LAMs?
If you don't mind how PHAT the aero handguard is it's pretty good. It uses 8 bolts that screw into the barrel nut and has anti rotation tabs that index with the receiver
it makes the most sense yeah. But you can get away with pretty standard rails.
The zero loss and flex is overblown. Does it happen, yes, will you loose zero over time, yes.
Has this always been the case with backup irons: also yes.
@@BrassFacts Not to mention it's really easy to knock out a converging laser zero off of your primarily optic zero, there's no reason not to check/fix your zero. Especially if you have an FP laser where you can converge them at infinity by aligning it while pointing into the sky. Just check for passing planes first!
Love the content
just tested the wadsn or sotac xe raid in black with ir and green laser...held zeo under full auto fire on 5.56 77gr ammo and im testing with 308 now may pot and seal it up along with adding a way to reinforce the laser diode or module also idk if the buttons are wierd and differently setup like the real one by comparison but if so i may try to fix the mobo to make it more realistic , but these chinese lasers are insane hahah
any results on 308?
Can we see an old incandescent bulb light with the IR filter for the extreme poor options?
Is it worth getting any laser that is civilian rated as opposed to waiting and then spending the coin for an FP when it comes available? For instance the RAPTAR.
anything vcel yes doesnt need FP. Anything not vcel, generally pretty anemic.
I have experience seeing a RAPTAR FP under nods, on the low power its very anemic but in full power its good, just has that weird oval shape that all edge emitting lasers do example the PEQ 15, but it doesn't have that pitri dish artifacting. The FP Raptar I seen was through a military dude so I cannot speak on the newer raptar that has AB. The Full Power mode can be really tight so its good.
Meanwhile im waiting for the L3 NGAL-C that was confirmed by some L3 rep at Shotshow with no other info other than it will be a thing
Dont let anyone screw you on pricing. GAZ Firearms in Davenport, FL has been getting them somewhat regularly and not charging more than msrp.
Have you seen the chinisium Laserspeed LS-FL5? its full power and rated really well at 900 shenkles. No BS FDA rules and some are saying the very best civilian LAM you can buy today.
Check out the mlad and Ls m3, also perst 3 is awesome especially for the price they float between 1-1.5k if you’re broke grab an Ls m3 fp laser for about 800$
Great video and explanations. However, it would have been helpful to me to see captions of each model whenever you are discussing each one. Otherwise, very informative.
Anyone else think jazz hands during the sponsor content? "👋sponsor time!👋"
I have several different laser but best bang for the buck is/was the ZenitCo Perst-4, I bought two when they were legal and easy to get, will go toe to toe with any PEQ and were $450, now they are running $1000+ on the secondary market. Over the years I have learned that visible laser is pointless and now I run Steiner OTAL-IR on my night vision rifles. For $600 its a Steiner, only IR, because you don't need visible lasers with NOD's.
Always been happy with my Mawls but the price has gone up 1K over the last year so that’s just not acceptable. I would buy the civilian raid but not at the stupid price people want.
Brassfacts Friday
I really wish holosun would put out a low profile low cost vscel for us poors
Private sales for AD/LE come out to 10.6k usd for Wilcox MRF Xe.
The Wilcox Raptar S comes out to 11,298 usd. Just refinance your house and don’t put a down payment on a 5.0, scat pack, hellcat, or camaro and you’re good.
How does this compare to my cats mouse shaped laser and a mag lite hosed clamp to the rail
The way I look at the OGL. By the time it's on the civilian market I'll actually be in a place to get NV equipment. So It's perfect :D
Though if there's anyone in LE willing to sell an NGAL I'll take one! :)
The one laser to rule the MAWL
Would you go FP raid xe or ngal?
Regarding the center button. The manual is correct but misleading. The short throw illuminator is only available in low modes. In hi modes, the long throw illuminator is always used, regardless of the setting. The middle button correctly toggle the illumination setting but the setting has no effect in hi modes.
Nova just looks like she's had it with y'alls nonsense in the end of that video poor girl.
Some when are you and hop gonna make a diy ir illuminator kit
You could make a review on anything and I'd watch it
All that said, do you still stand on the DesignateIR-V being the best (currently available) bang for your buck VCSEL MFAL on the market? I still like the performance and form factor, but the biggest complaint I've seen from owners is that the polymer clamping method is both fragile and prone to rapidly losing a usable zero with even moderate use.
Now if Holosun were to retrofit their 321 line with VCSEL...
Good shtuff
So with the nightline price is that already with the 15% off as civilian price?
on the link to prices, the discount is applied to the section that says "with discount"
The best ir laser is the somogear peq ;)
1:46 is that a SARB017?
What's that Chinese airsoft laser you mentioned?
1:39 Fellow lefty here. No issues with your front sling placement causing failures to eject?
nah, the angles make it look bad.
@@BrassFacts Good to know. Thanks for the response
You need to review the older raid x it’s a better unit I have one and love it
The old unit has no proprietary switch just the standard crane port
where am I getting a old raid?
Also I have not heard good things about durability on those.
Can it play doom on the screen?
only pacman
Oh man, I cant wait for the chinesium clones.
Might as well just get the mawl
Are you in Vegas or SLC? Ethan is my dude! We should go do some night ops soon.
slc, hmu on instagram
When you getting the Somogear NGAL 👀
they're not out, and somogear has no desire to send me one
Pannone looks on in utter bewilderment at the lesbian couple running ops next to him.
So is the Samogear airsoft one still the best budget IR for the poor?
depends how poor. Generally no, I still think a somogear should not be your first laser. It's just to much of a toy for that.
For your 3rd laser? sure.
Imo save up.
@@KeterMalkuth when we say lasers we mean MFAL or LAMs.
So a illuminator is required
Perst 3 ordered in Jan of 2022 has done me good
one laser to rule the MAWL?
Raid shadow legends ah laser
THIS VIDEO IS SPONORED BY RAID (...xe)
Thx
What about the Laser Speed LAM?!?!
If you can live with the Kiji parasitic battery drain, the CTF-2 hangs with all of these new LAMs alright. You just spend money on extra batteries rather than a more expensive base unit.
that parasitic drain is really bad though. It's like 3 weeks to empty.
@@BrassFacts I normally just un-screwed the kiji a half turn during the day to interrupt the circuit. The housing and white light by themselves don't have nearly the drain that Be Meyers decided was ok. I have not had it fall off under recoil because of the o-ring. I wish it did not have that compromise but for the form factor and price it's really hard to beat if you need a civ fp unit.
You don’t think that tape switch mount is supposed to go along side the unit on the left side?
. you basically need a VFG under to reach it there (cable in the way) (also doesn't really work anyway)
Its meant according to wilcox to cant 45 degree off, rearward. but it's so flimsy.
Huh. It looked like they were solving a problem having that be long enough to span the unit. But yeah, I can see it needing a vfg to reach :/
