I saw some Air Force special operations airmen in training using a laser that literally looked like something out of science fiction. It was insanely bright and looked unreal.
Surprised BE Meyers is the only one to get in the civilian game with next gen lasers, also surprised Steiner hasn't worked on a smaller varient of the D2.I know other priorities exist like Military contracts but one thing is for sure there is a very high demand for these type of devices no matter the cost.

I’m not sure why they were so hesitant but I truly believe that night vision isn’t such a special niche market anymore.

Because they’re visible lasers, but they don’t allow Class 3 IR lasers due to them being labeled as a regulated medical device. But yes you’re right you are able to go buy a class 4 visible laser.
Guys look into this 1W IR handheld laser called "IRX7" it comes with a FDA certification because it requires a key to activate full power, we need something like this for guns.
@Emmanuel Goldstein I need that hard to find plug for the wilcox raptor to hack it. my buddy had his flashed and unlocked to full power, but the company who was doing those services got sued. He also had a mawl X1 that was flashed to class 1 low power only by BE meyers so it's possible with mawls.
Gun thots did a comparison between the mawl, the d2 and perst 3. Inn a nut shell, they didn’t think the mawl was worth the money over the d2. The d2 is thiccc, and you can see a glow from the IR illumination led, but only if is directly pointing at you. The perst is full power, and getting it repaired may be very iffy. You cannot export it back to Russia legally so it’s a touchy situation. I’ve been thinking atpialc and running a scout vampire to give me a little more illumination since I’m gonna need a white light anyway
I was at a training event where the D2 illuminator got a teammate kilt in da streetz. FOF event, "bad guy" (with no nods) is hiding in thick brush, guy with D2 activates his unit to search for the target, doesnt get a positive fix on location, but "bad guy" saw the red glow from the illuminator and was able to quickly eliminate the "good guy"
That's an argument to use a handheld illuminator instead of the one on your carbine unless you have actually identified a target. Then you turn the illuminator on, scan, turn off, move. Turn illuminator on, scan, turn off, move.

Yes. Most full power "mil/le" lasers should be fine but I wouldn't use a Perst, Holosun or other lower end laser. There's also a Navsea marked LA5 specifically meant for the Mk17

Only LA5D NAVSEA units are SCAR rated. Not even MAWL, NGAL, RAID can handle it. NAVSEA units have a unique laser engraved logo on the underside, a chunkier battery cap and reverse battery orientation.

OP, take a look at the russian perst 3 and save you money for ammo. You'll get 90% of the performance for a significantly lower percentage of price and not have to worry about having a hot unit.
I see no practical use for a PVs-7 other than maybe hobby related stuff….stargazing, maybe stationary viewing…I had to drive with them in the military and the depth perception sucked. 14’s are where it’s at imo for entry level. I still can’t afford one tho…
So from what I’ve learned here and other places is that basically you have the D2 as an entry level laser and the mawl is the best you can buy. everything else isn’t even worth buying.
Maybe but I see a lot of guys, me included, running the Steiner Otal C and the surefire m600 vampire. I personally use the dual switch cap on the surefire and a pressure pad that activates the light and the laser at the same time. Then if I need to use the light or laser individualy I use the controls on the units themselves. Personally i like having the ability to switch the light from visible to ir. The only downside is the lack of a visible laser for zeroing.

Just in Pvs-14’s there is like 20 levels quality and features to pick from. @@jpk9171jpk Yeah. My advice buy a mid level white phosphor pvs14. Then get a good helmet rig and try hiking with it at night. Shooting under night vision is easy. It's walking around and manipulating your gun that's tough. If you don't have a good since of direction and distance your going to run into stuff. An if you can't diagnose and clear malfunctions without looking at your gun your gonna have a bad time.
Why doesn’t TNVC promote the “TNVC triad” IR laser/ illuminator very much? I have one and it’s a great laser. As good if not better than that peq 15 and beats a few of the dbals easily. Adjustable illuminator and the laser is powerful enough to shoot out a few hundred meters in my experience. And for the price it’s hard to beat.

The full power IR lasers can seriously damage your eyes instantly. You also have to worry about reflecting off a surface and hitting you or your buddies in the eyes.

I’d get the MAWL if $$$ isn’t the issue. The D2 is quite big and obtrusive. The MAWL is really nice and out of the way.

Steiner needs to update the D2 with a much smaller illuminator with a 950nm led. The D2 is great for a civ device, but it’s just too big and heavy
